How many days have you been out fishing this year? 2024

fishing user avatarAlan Reed reply :

33 days left in the year. How many days have you fished? How many more do you think you can get in?

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

No clue....many....five or six days some weeks....zero others...remaining 33 are a bit tougher, what with weather and holidays negatively impacting results

This!

Started the year real strong, in a two month slide to early pre-spawn!

fishing user avatarTeam9nine reply :

I'm guessing I made about half as many as  @IndianaFinesse  :P ...usually runs between 80-125 days per year for me.

Extended forecast models aren't looking good. Probably down to half a dozen or less trips left this year :(

fishing user avatarN Florida Mike reply :

I've fished SOME 4-5 days a week throughout the year.I have not fished a full day all year.My longest day was 6:30 to 1:30 one Saturday.

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

Hmm, altogether, i was out on the water approximately 30 times this year give or take. When i finish my boat this winter, i hope to be out on the water a lot more. I probably watch/read something fishing related on a daily basis throughout the year, but am really not on the water that much. I really need to fix this.

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

Enough days to make it one of the best years I have had bass fishing.

fishing user avatarHez reply :

Hmmm...that's a tough one to calculate...which is a good thing.

I will try though...

I will estimate 3 weekends a month, 2 days a weekend...I will start in February, so...9 months....

9 x (3 x 2) = ~ 54 days this year

That's a rough estimate...but fairly accurate.

fishing user avatarSpankey reply :

I think I'll get a few day of trout fishing in before the end of the year.

I can only guess, 60+ days. If I said 75 I think I'd be stretching it. I had a few week at trout season that it seem like I went everyday after work.

I feel this was a great bass season for me. Better than expected. Conditions were not great. Lack of rain. Hotter than the norm. Construction going on I a place I like to fish.

fishing user avatarSteveo-1969 reply :

I would guess 80+ days so far this year and another 6-8 days before years end.  The only thing I know for sure is that I didn't fish as many days as I would have liked to fish!!!!!

fishing user avatarDrMarlboro92 reply :

So, I just tried to calculate it, and it looks like I spent ~230 days on the water this year. after figuring up launch fees, and fuel to and from the lake, I spent over $9k just hauling and launching the boat. that... That must be why my girl is always so ticked off at me.

you could break your brain trying to figure that one out....sometimes I wonder if a problem stems from too many days out fishing....or not enough...lol....probably both

fishing user avatarOCdockskipper reply :

4 days on Missouri waters, 57 days on my home lake in Southern California.  Most trips were 7+ hours with a few summer afternoon trips thrown in.

With the holidays and a friend visiting in December, I expect to add in another 6 full day trips.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

No idea, but much fewer than last year because life. :)

I.e., sons getting older, travel soccer weekends, travel

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

50-75 days

fishing user avatarstk44 reply :

60 - 70 days per year. 10-16 hours per week. I'm done for the year. Below 45 degrees and increasing wind gusts make it unsafe in my kayak.

Good news, there is light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't an oncoming train...

As much as I enjoyed my kids as children, I like them more as adults.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Fished maybe 25 on the high side. How many left would be a whopping zero.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

Easy question.  I don't keep track of how many days I fish, I keep track of how many days I don't fish. This calendar year, I had hard water for (only) 5 days, and was on personal or business travel for 33 days. Today is the 333 day of 2016. 333 minus 38 = 295.

So, 2016 to date, I fished on 295 days.

As you say, 33 days left in this calendar year. I have travel scheduled for 7 days - leaving 26 days available for fishing. I expect to fish all 26 of those days since I don't think there is even a REMOTE possibility of any hard water for the rest of this year...

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

I've been out all but 3 weekends since ice out and every day of my 10 days of PTO. I will be out this weekend, but this may be it. Extended forecast shows the bottom dropping out in the middle of next week.

What are you? Rain Man?

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I get to fish approximately from April through September, with most of those days coming may-august. 2-3 times per week, usually weekday mornings, during weeks when I don't have too many other obligations in the way. I'm guessing this year was 40-45 days, most of which were 3-5 hours on/in/at the water.

Hah - I can't compete with Rain Man...I need an Excel spreadsheet to keep track...

fishing user avatarIndianaFinesse reply :

Somewhere around 240 days so far, but most of these were shorter ~4 hour trips rather than all day things.  I've probably "only" fished about 70 all day fishing trips this year.  I'm hoping to get another 20 trips in before new years, as long as the lakes don't freeze up to thick to plow threw with a canoe, which I don't think will happen till January unless the weather turns really cold really fast.

fishing user avatargimruis reply :

I kept track of this in an excel spreadsheet this season!  I mostly did it because I bought a new boat last April and I wanted to see how often I would use it, but I kept track of the hours and quantity of fish I caught too.  I'm probably not going to do this again but it was interesting to try this year.

I went fishing a total of 38 times between April - October for a grand total of 131 hours, which is an average of about 3.4 hours per trip.  28 of those 38 trips were in my new boat which had a total of 112 hours.  30 of those 38 trips were targeting bass, 3 targeting walleye, 4 targeting muskies, and 1 trip for panfish.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I know that I fished 35 different bodies of water this year, many of them multiple times. So I'm going to guess that I fished more days than most folks do.

How many more days depends a lot on when/if I get a deer, and when baby #2 decides to make his appearance.

fishing user avatarTurkey sandwich reply :

Man, I'm jealous of you guys.  Between health issues, work, and having a long drive to any waters I regularly fish, I'm not so lucky.  Instead, I'm the guy on the water at dawn and off at dusk any day I can sneak free, and spending my off time reading or practicing casting.  I might have had 20 days on the water this year between bass and trout. Luckily, I'm healing up well and not far from having a 4 day work week - so I'm very excited to have more time for fishing and camping next year.

fishing user avatar"hamma" reply :

I got 6 days in, Thank you je1946

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

It boils down to never enough.  From March through October I fish a couple wildcats a week and clubbers on Saturday twice a month.  Plus I try and get out a few more in between.  But it seems I'm always spacing out thinking of being on the water and what to use.  Probably do to the fact that a short time ago I was laid up for some time and couldn't do anything....so I am so thankful to be out there now.

Tight Lines

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I believe I have to be right around 100 times this year. I start fishing on weekends in early to mid April and then average about 4 days a week from May through mid October when basketball season starts and I'm coaching after work. Then it's just Fridays and weekends until I can't go any longer. Trips left this year...most likely zero looking at the weather. My fingers are still crossed that I can get out this Saturday though. That hard water is coming fast :(

And yet you still probably end up catching more total bass than me.:(

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

I am a little crazy about keeping numbers: days, bass caught and over 5lbs

43 days on the water- 397 bass caught

5 - 5.99lbs =10

6 - 6.99lbs =12

7 - 7.99lbs = 10

8 - 8.99lbs = 4

9 - 9.30lbs = 3 **9.30 lbs biggest so far

10+ = 0 (so far)

fishing user avatarOhio Archer reply :

Best I can figure I'm around 30 days give or take a couple. Got a slow start but picked up in June. Then got a new boat in July. Trying to get a few more before it gets too cold.

I'm guessing you're fish-for-fish with me on the shallow stuff. You seem to have figured out most of the better bites and locations out there. If I have an advantage, it's that I've got a pretty solid offshore game that you haven't had a chance to capitalize on yet due to your electronics setup (I'm guessing). That will come soon enough though, I'm sure. B)

I fish anywhere from 50-100 days a year on average. This is anything from a few hours after work to 36+ hour offshore a trips. This year unfortunately, while I'm not sure the actual number, I believe it to be well under 50...

fishing user avatarbreban1 reply :

Wow, I can only dream of fishing as often as 1/2 of you guys!  2 little ones take up most of my time (which I don't mind at all).

Now I did not even come close to 200 days (probably in the 75-100 days range) I will say it is easy to stay married and fish that much.  Just bring the wife with you.

I think i am the biggest looser here, married with no kid and full time job. I got a boat early this year and only got out less than 10 time, other than that just bank fishing a couple hours here and there, most of the time very early morning while my wife still in her beauty sleep.

I hope I will get more fishing hours next year since we are still in process of moving to canyon lake here in CA. This is another thing that frustrated me, We supposed to move like 2 months ago but always thing came up, now we are on the third buyers for our house. ???

I'm not married yet, but my girlfriend loves to fish. Not quite as much as me, but she's always up to go and it's actually what we did on our first date. She's currently going to school about 3 hours away and she gets jealous every time I tell her I'm going fishing because she just wants to go with. It's not the married part alone that makes it difficult. It's the married + little rugrat running around part. My wife likes to fish, but if we take my daughter, one of us isn't going to be able to fish, and it's not gonna be me. What is awesome is when they are finally old enough to take an interest in fishing. Not only does it provide for some great quality time together, but in teaching them from the basics up, you will find that you get a chance to go back and relearn things maybe a little better yourself, or maybe return to some great techniques that you for whatever reason left behind.

Here's my youngest with his first catch of the day from last weekend (he outfished me on the whole day).

I would probably not fish and just supervise and help my daughter. It's gotta be more relaxing than paddling like a maniac all over the lake and casting or pitching as many times as I possibly can in 12 hours :-)

fishing user avatarKris2016 reply :

Actually, this year was an improvement in time fishing because I retired in January.  Around June of this year I was speaking with a customer where I work part-time and he mentioned a bass club.  This club is small and all the Members are over 55 and oldest is early to mid-Seventies.  Turned out that four of the Members are guys I fished tournaments and clubs back in the day.  Twenty to twenty-five years ago.  We do two club tournaments a month from April through October and I got some practice days in on reservoirs I have never fished before.  So I would say I got 25 days in fishing this year.  Sure beats the time I  used to spend on the road for a company.

Hoping this year will be an improvement over last.  Looking forward to making all of the club tournaments and many trips away with my wife.  Something will have to give and it will probably be work.

My boat has been wet 5 times this year.......I have been fishing since I was 5 and fished every chance I had as a kid which was a bunch since there was a pond right across from where I lived fished by myself at age 10-11 I say by myself but the best friend was there as well just no Dad or Mom when we hit the pond then I started driving and was always fishing every free moment I had.  Got married and fished the evenings 1-2 nights and all day on Saturday with my brother uncle and cuz. Had kids and fished every Saturday I could and a few evenings per month. Now I have no job and can't get off the couch due to back problems for the past 9 years and now I'm lucky to get 5-10 days a year......It sucks......I want to fish so bad right now it's not funny. This is smallmouth time and I'm married to this frigg'n couch.......You guys that fish day in and day out better not take it for granted because it can be taken away in the blink of an eye and take care of your health. Tie'n jigs when I can sit and being on a site like Bassresource.com talking about fishing is the only thing that gets me through the suck. The H2O temps are getting right for hair jigs around here and I'm take'n  little man out come hell or high water in the next week or so. Fish On men, Fish On.

I would estimate at 120 to 140 days times this year.  Most trips estimating 4 hours after work.  Probably 30 days I've spent 6+ hours

Everyone has been lucky this year, I have fished ZERO days due to my illness. I've always had bronchial problems all my life. Last November I got pneumonia and a common cold on top. Doctor and hospital told me it was a rare viral type and have been fighting it all year. Several problems have resulted since. Now the doctors said I have COPD, never smoked and have been on oxygen since. 3 weeks ago they did a lungscope and discovered a growth blocking the airway in my lungs, removed last week and breathing has improved.

I record every show dealing with fishing nd seat on the couch with my favorite casting outfit watching them.

I'm looking forward to 2017.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I did well this year.  I'd say I got our somewhere between 50-75 days this year.  Many trips were only for a few hours before or after work.  Caught fish every month except February, April, and December (though it's not over yet...).
