Heaviest bass of the board 2024

fishing user avatarOkobojiEagle reply :

I'd like to know which board member has claim to the heaviest bass caught by a board member...  Not looking for everyone's personal best, not wanting to know about the one your wife caught, or your dad, or uncle Ned's best friend 7 years ago.  Only the absolute heaviest largemouth, smallmouth or spotted bass caught and weighed by a current BassResource member.  Don't even think of posting unless you can beat the last posted weight! Honor system will have to apply, but remember, Saint Peter was a fisherman and he'll know!

largemouth -- 19lb 3oz -- WRB

smallmouth -- 9lb 7oz -- Brian Schram

spotted bass -- 8.2 lb -- LTBAndrew

Guadalupe -- 1lb -- OCdockskipper

Who'll chime in quickly with a really impressive number! (This could be a really short thread)

I caught  one of the biggest Bass I have ever seen, the lake went down 2 feet when I pulled him in. But the game warden said I better put it back cause the lake was already low and some of the other fish may die. And I did not get a chance to weigh

it.

I did not understand the lake being low in the first place cause the Staunton River was so high you could walk up under it and not get ya hair wet.

  Man That is the best part of fishing  aint it ;)

Not even close! I was up in the arctic circle on this secluded freshwater lake looking for the last dodo bird in exsistance and I came across this hole in the ice and wondered "how in the world did this get here?" I quickly found out when a polar bear popped up and he had this giant beautiful bass in it's mouth! Thankfully this polar bear had no teeth so the bass was still alive and intact. I kindly asked if I could have it and he slowly opened his mouth released the fish winked at me pointed to my camera....I handed him the camera he went back under so I had no camera for a picture. Oh well maybe next time! ?

If that's not a fisherman's tale I don't know what is!!!

Fish Chris also caught a 9 lb class smallmouth at Pardee, his bass are NorCal fish which makes remarkable catches IMO.

My top 5 FLMB;

19.3 lbs, 17.6 lbs, 17.4 lbs Castaic.

18.6 lbs, 17.4 lbs Casitas.

Still trying for that 20!

You gotta live and fish where giants live to catch them. I was blessed to fish Castaic and Casitas at the peak periods during the 80's and 90's.

No, it was released before being examined. If you notice the California state record is 21 lbs 15 oz, not 22.01 or 25.1 lbs, fish weren't officially examined by a biologist. Submitted all the paper work years later. Butch Brown's 19.3 isn't listed for the same reason.

No, our small trophy bass lakes get tremendous fishing pressure and rarely recover from peak population periods. If a lake is currently at peak you can bet it's being kept quite.

Tom

fishing user avatarBassObsessed reply :

I fished Dixon in October and shook my head how small it was and still put out the likes of Dottie. I only caught a few bass but talked to the ranger and was told a 13-14 was caught earlier in the year.

Something Weakley caught that 25 pounder named Dolly there but he released it since it was accidentally snagged.  Its highest official weight was a few years before that at 21.7 pounds and when it died a few years after being 25 pounds, it weighed 19 pounds.  So he must have caught it at the perfect time if it truly weighed 25.

fishing user avatar1234567 reply :

Mac weakley caught her outside the mouth off a bed so he released Dottie. Jed Dickerson I believe caught her at around 21 pounds and it was certified. I'd have to go back and look it up. I read it years ago.

Reminds me of a story. My son and I were fishing and as we trolled past a dock, there was a kid, maybe 10 years old fishing. He was overly excited and proceeded to tell us about how he just lost a largemouth that must have weighed at least 10 pounds. I asked the typical "what are you using for bait?" etc questions feeding into his excitement. He was so excited he had hooked a big one.....Back to reality, there are no 10 pound bass in the lake and bass over 5lbs are rare. Was nice (and funny) to see the innocence of a kid who hasn't yet been tainted by the sport and he was living proof that all fishermen are liars...or are they? Because in his 10 year old mind, that fish weighed every bit of 10 pounds.

fishing user avatarScott F reply :

A few years ago, my wife picked up one of my fishing books that listed the weight records of every state. She saw the Minnesota record for smallmouth was 8lbs. Remembering a smallie she caught on Lake Vermilion MN, she was convinced that her fish was as big as the state record. I showed her the picture of the fish she caught, (it wasn't weighed, but was a fat 18 inches, maybe 4lbs.) but I could not convince her that her fish was not 8lbs. If we hadn't gone to an outdoor show where she saw a mount of an 8lb smallmouth, she would still be arguing with me about the size of her bass.

The Oregon state record isn't even big enough for Tom to bring into the boat. He would just let it work itself loose at the side of the boat so he didn't have to mess with it.

There are tons of bass fisherman, but location and local water will cull out about 95% of them when it comes to giant bass.

I am an advocate of recognizing that Florida strain largemouth bass should be a separate record category from northern largemouth bass by using 69-73 lateral line pore scale count to determine the difference. FLMB strain are heavier bodied bass that weigh more than NLMB and weight is what records are all about.

Anyone who catches bass of any type anywhere that close to a state record is a outstanding achievement.

I fished the Blanco river in Wimberley Texas, outside of Austin, & caught a few Guadalupe bass in the current where the largemouth wouldn't venture.  I'll testify that the largest weighed 1 lb (I believe world record for them is 3 lbs something).

That makes me the leader in the clubhouse until some of the Austin anglers start checking in...:D

Big Spotted bass, 8.2 lbs should be noted for a BR member. What lake did you catch your spotted bass? The 1st California giant Spotted bass was from SoCal lake Perris, followed by Central California lake Pine Flat and NorCal lake Bullards Bar.

Alabama or Southern Spotted bass are not a new species! It's like comparing Northern strain LMB to Florida strain that grow nearly 50% heavier, different species that someday will have seperate record status.

14lbs 3oz on a guided tour in Disney World. Trolling with a live shiner. In the waters of what was the Disney Institute, which I think is now the Disney Springs area by the red X. Before Disney Springs was there in September 2001. There is no picture of the fish. But there was a scale on the boat.

Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings on this thread, but my nephew who is 3 and half years old and hopeful future board member has outdone all of us.

He called to inform me he caught his first bass the other day. I asked him how he knew it was a bass and said it was green, white, had a really big mouth and had black spots on it. It was also 3 feet long....

That has to be the record or he has already mastered the art of telling larger then life fishing tales ????
