When you stick a big one, and your talking to your buddies about it, what do you call it ?
I guess I most often refer to a big one, as a pig. But sometimes a monster, a fatty, or a hawg.
Of course their is the sow, the lunker, the toad......
Help me out here. I'm sure their must be a hundred more :-)
Fish
Big momma.
Football is a good one
When I catch a big one and am telling someone about it, I usually just refer to it as a "huge fish".
Still waiting for the day when I can (truthfully) talk about the "RIDICULOUSLY GIGANTIC FISH" I caught, while referring to a bass
But the picture weighed 3 1/2 lbs.
If we're talking about the fish in your avatar, I'd probably refer to it as a "freak of nature" ;D
Or a "freakishly gargantuan fish"
f****** huge one. bucketmouth. monster
I dont usually spazz until the fish is in the boat and in the livewell. Then I start freaking out, , or singing its PB&J Time. I dont really have a name for a big fish. Matty 5.0 has THE BEST "freak out" when he hooks into a fish.
pig, toad, donkey, gorilla, fatty, giant, i like the term basketball instead of football for those obese prespawn fish.
but my favorite, which i have only deemed necessary to use on a fish that I did not land: Leviathan
Basszilla
Prego Mommo
Both halves of the picture Avid took ;D
My Personal Favorite: THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY
Down south they are called Hawgs because a Hog is bigger than a Pig
ginormous bass
or sometimes a dink. LOL
Chunker, Klunker, Kegger
A nice fish can be a pig, but a great fish is a Hawg!
Generally, I like to refer to them as "Fat Girls" 8-)
There have been a few times, after battling for what seems like a really long time - that I end up calling it catfish >
Big Girl, Lunker, Fattie, Big B**ch, Fat Bass
"Still in the Lake" cause I've never caught it.
I'm with RW, I like "fat girls". Why? Because they need love too.
id rather not call em a basketball or a football. i prefer bowlin ball ;D
QuoteI'm with RW, I like "fat girls". Why? Because they need love too.
L-O-L Moe
Send them over to me LMAO
Dont forget WHALE
QuoteDont forget WHALE
almost forgot SHAMOO
we also call then logs, sticks, and trunks
mostly because thats what they all end up being ;D
Quotewe also call then logs, sticks, and trunksmostly because thats what they all end up being ;D
Ya,but the fish was on there before I got snagged up,I swear!
:
I call em what shaw grigsby calls em
YOU LITTLE BUTTERBALL PIG YOU
Come on guys, you can do better than this. I've been fishing less than a year and I call 'em
STUDS --- AS IN "Holy crap!" "This one feels like a STUD"
BUTTERBALLS --- As in when you are fishing near thanksgiving and pull a 13 pounder on the boat and say, "Look at the freaking BUTTERBALL!!"
BRUISERS--- As in when you have a 9 minute fight with a 16 pounder, and after landing her you feel your arms aching and say, "d**n, this ***** is a bruiser"
MOBEY DICKS-- As in when you hook a 14 pounder on 6 pound test, and she goes under your bass boat and tries to tip the boat over. She's a "Mobey Dick"
CHUNK BOXES--- When you land a 17 pounder and she has a freshly swallowed 7 pound ducking in her belly, she's a "Chunk Box"
BEEFERS - Same as a "Chunck Box" except she is full of eggs and a freshly swallowed 5 pound trout.
BULLS --- 10+ pounder that jumps and bucks and gets at least 2 feet out of the water 9 times on the way to the boat.
JELLY BELLYS - Completely self explanitory
BLUBBER BUTTS - Again, self explanitory
BIG SHOTS--- A 25+ pounder who roams and patrols a large lake, or body of water, swimming like she owns it. She scares all the other bass and fish in the area, and is smarter than many accountants. When you catch a "Big Shot" you know it. They will never stop pulling, and can swallow a small goat. A "big shot" takes you deep into heavy cover if you ever catch one and has the strength to pull a 100 pound water skiier over a mile. (I've only caught 5 of these in my life)
QuoteMatty 5.0 has THE BEST "freak out" when he hooks into a fish.
;D ;D ;D
Usually "It's a big b@tch"
or " Big Kahuna Tuna" as my man Rick likes to say.....
QuoteDifferent slang names for big bass
Ummmmmmmmmmm. Really big bass? :-/ LOL
Actually, "bathtub bass" is what I used to call them.
It comes from the first 7 lber I caught.
I brought it home and put it in the bathtub for a couple of days.
Kids loved it,
wife?....................................well not so much.

I was thinkin' "There I go!", lmao.
Come here, Momma!
Florida dude: Yeah man, it's a MOGAN!
We like to refere to 'em as Bucket Faces/heads, SOB and Bass-and-a-half.
I just want to be able to call my 9.98lb bass "10 pounds". :'(
Man, I'm glad you said "big bass."
I was thinking of something else that has slang names!
I like the way Fish Chris refers to his biggin's as DDs.
That puts a smile on my face.
I guesss it reminds me of "other things" I like.
:
Im going to use that one RW.

Bass awkards If you have indeed caught 5 Big shots 25+lbs you missed out on a few million dollars. This is the time to smack yourself! Are you talking about stripers?
b**ch, pig, hawg, lunker, monster, and BIG BASS!
QuoteBig momma.
That's what I usually call them but I say it with a Takahiro Omori accent.
oh i almost forgot...."puppy"
"Hoss" is a good one.
Rosie O' Donnell.
QuoteRosie O' Donnell.
OMFG!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
That right theres funny,I dont care who ya are. ;D
I have a couple of different names for exceptionally large bass:
Someone else's fish
Look at the fish that guy caught
Wow, where'd you catch that?
Fish under 13" dink fish over 13 toad then pig, hawg, then downky
then thers the mutha F#@er
We also call 'em Your Mom!
Me and my buds call em pigs or monsters
"Fatty little she Pig" Piglet. Big ole Brusier. "Hoss"
Resurrecting an old thread. I call them horses sometimes
Big MoFo
On the other hand, when I stick one that I think is a good one but ends up being a dink, this is my catch phrase....

Fourscore and twelve years ago....
Big bass, it's "dank"
For big pike, it's "German Shepherd with fins"
For the last three years I'd have to call them rare.
Swamp Donkey or Sow Belly
This topic reminds me of this old Quantum commercial
12 year old Fish Chris thread, interesting reviewing this old thread with very little new terms added.
Ike ruined "it's a giant" the term I used for DD bass over 15 lbs, Ike calls anything over 15" a giant.
Tom
I have used those terms to my fishing buddies based on their size:
Squeaker, Torpedo, Toad, Holy Molly, Drag-Puller & "The Fat Girl"
GreenPig & Weed Donkey
Hydrilla Gorilla in my best Zona voice or G-G-Giant Bass.
I use my ex's name for big, fat bass.
I usually call a larger than typical bass, a Chunk or a Toad or a Tank !
On 4/25/2019 at 12:32 PM, Glenn said:I use my ex's name for big, fat bass.
What was his name?
Green trout
ditch pickle
nw names said about bass by some trout/salmonid pursuers.
When a largemouth bass is over 24 inches it is as long as a legal black grouper so I sometimes give these big bass the nickname of green grouper.
When I catch'em they are Hawgs . When other catch'em they are flukes .
Slaunch, chunks, slobs, pigs, hawgs, tanks, toads, donkeys, and giants ????
bucket mouth ...
green trout is what folks in the great state of louisiana call the largemouth bass ... is where i first heard it ... in the marsh ...
good fishing ...

There's a bunch of salmon and steelhead anglers up here that refer to bass fishing as "fishing for green trout." I always chuckle when I see your screen name. That group is a little nuts.
Walmart Girl
"Tank Williams Jr." managed to come out of my mouth last weekend...
Call me old fashioned or simple minded but I still just call em big uns.

Yeah I heard some guys who favor salmon/steelheads call bass ditch pickles too.
Easily "swamp donkey" for me.
I keep it simple.
5lb below is a good one, above 5lb+ are/that is a giant SOB.
