Nope. My daughter fished with me a couple of times when she was a young girl, but she and my wife have -0- interest in fishing, or less than -0-, if that is possible. But that's fine with me, probably works out better that way for all of us.

fishing user avatarBig_Bass_Rock reply :

Definately not as serious, or even close, but I have a couple female friends that want to go fishing every once in a while. But they don't even have their own gear or anything.

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

Oh yeah,  my wife is as much as a tackle junky as I am and loves to fish jerkbaits like no other.  Her most recent purchase was a Alphas 103 from Japan.  She liked the purple color and claimed she could could palm it better than her Viento.  Likely story.... ::)

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

My best friends mother-in-law is.

She is the Manager of the BPS Outlet Store in Macon Ga.

She was once married on a Bass Boat.  ;D

fishing user avatarFishin-Psyantist reply :

My wife is not into it as much as I am but she loves to go. I leave her at home mostly cause she always catches the bigger fish and GLOATS about for weeks. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

fishing user avatarbassboy1 reply :

Right now, it doesn't matter, I am in the doghouse.   :-/

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

My wife don't ask me to go to the mall and I don't ask her to go fishing.  Girlfriend?  Well, who has time for fishing....

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I hope my daughter will be into fishing like me some day. She's only 6, so we'll see.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

No, no females interested in fishing at all in my family.

Wife will lay on back of the boat and read while I fish if she goes out with me.

She loves to make a picnic lunch and we anchor in the shade and have a nice picnic on the boat.  No ants, too!

We were stopped on the Chick Lake two years ago and the two game wardens never asked to see her license.  I guess they could figure out that she was only reading and had no interest in fishing.

With that said, she knows that I like fishing stuff so she is thinking of getting a new boat cover for my Christmas present.

Great wife!!!! ;)

fishing user avatarZel... reply :

LOL... that's like asking if anybody here has ever won the big prize in the Powerball lottery.

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

my wife used to be like, u fish to much, u spend to much on fishing stuff

then 1 day it all changed

now she wants to go every time i go

except last week we were out at 6am and it was like 30 out and had to run up the river about 15 miles

she was froze and said ok im done for the year but come spring u will be taking me again

fishing user avatarJig Man reply :

I can get my wife to go if it isn't too early.  She really likes to fish buzz baits and tubes but only if she is getting bites.  She spends more time doing puzzles or reading than she does fishing, but that's ok.

fishing user avatarRobbyZ5001 reply :

This is such a huge topic in my book. I have been known to tell girls who love fishing that i'll marry them. <-- This turned out to be a bad idea because some girls tried to hustle me and say they loved fishing just so we would date and I came to find out I was tricked!! Think how amazing it would be to have a partner that has the same passion as you do.

fishing user avatarjb_adams reply :

I for one believe that a man needs his time away from his wife or girlfriend.  It's MAN TIME when I'm fishing.  I LOVE the outdoors, the smell of fall leaves in the air, the smell of mosquito spray in the summer, the sounds of croaking frogs, locusts singing in the trees.....peace and scerenity!!!

Not, "haha...you missed the fish".  "Ha ha...my fish is bigger than yours".  "Baby, will you get this fish off my hook".  "baby will you put another bait on mine, I'm not catching any fish. I want one like you've got".....etc. etc.

Get the point?

Besides, I have a hard enough time trying to get my son interested in it.  This summer, he wanted to go and we did several times.  Now, he's always asking me "why do you want to go fishing all the time?"  Maybe when he's older (6yrs old now) he'll want to go with me more often.

By the way T-Rig, your daughter is one cute gal!  The scenery behind her looks beautiful!

fishing user avatarCory N reply :

This is my girlfriend's idea of fishing.

edit:  My mom brought me fishing for the first time, those snoopy poles sure cast well!  Should have added bring her fishing to my goals for 2008.

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

My daughter-in-law is addicted to catfishing.  I am in process of getting my daughter hooked.  The wife is not into fishing, she just likes to ride in the boat.

fishing user avatarF15HGuy reply :

No not at all, but my girlfriend understands that fishing is a big(big, big, big,) part of my life. So she's not so bad. ::) ::)

fishing user avatarguest reply :

My daughter likes to fish but not with any real commitment.

For her it's just another way to go out and get some sun.

my wife............fuggedaboudit.

fishing user avatarAJ reply :

My wife used to be into fishing bigtime, but after the kids came along she just goes occasionally. She uses a baitcaster better than most men in my bass club. She has caught more 5-7LB. bass than I care to count. We did very well in local tournaments. My seven year old daughter likes to fish, but I do not see her being into it like me and my wife once were. A few months ago at a pond close to home I had her fishing with a spinning reel and she did catch a small bass on a shakeyhead worm, and I could tell she was enjoying it. She saw me catch a nice one on a buzzbait, and she said, dad that was so awesome. So who knows ,I might have two female fishing partners before long.

fishing user avatarMobydick reply :

My girlfriend isn't as into it as I am but she loves to go. She came with me on an all day wading trip for smallies but she didn't want to fish, she just wanted to watch me, now tell me that isn't love. She likes fishing, just not as much as I do. A lot of times SHE is telling me to GO fishing! She also wants to come on tournaments with me. I couldn't have found a better girl!

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

Mine rather stay home and take naps....Fishing,heck no.I'm still trying to get her to go out and get a tan every now and then. That don't work either,it's either too cold or too hot for her.She really could use a tan every once in awhile. ;D

I'm out there by myself 90% of the time...gets lonely once in awhile.

Looking forward to teach my son soon.

fishing user avatarluckyinkentucky reply :

Heck yeah ..... having fishing buddies is half the fun.  All are equally enthused  about it, but not all of them have the equipment/bait craze I have.   :)

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

Hey blanked,

I have three daughters, my wife, and two female cats. I went out and bought a male dog, but he just looks at me like, "Boy..are you sc@wed!!

But seriously, I took my wife golfing a few years back, a " major" violation of the G.R.G.E. (guy's rules of golf etique).  It became a regular thing, and we had a blast. When I had to switch back over to fishing due to a car crash..no interest except for my 10 year old daughter. I can really see her concentrate, and the questions she asks should be posted here!! I can see her getting involved. (I'll have to talk to Strasosdad about that!!)

Long point short...anyone who wants to fish with me is welcome!!!

fishing user avatarGarnet reply :

It's a fact when they are looking to get married fishing is great. After they are married it's to hot to early to late to cold.

At least I get to fish as much as possible..............only cost half my winnings.

Garnet

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

As most of you know, Keri (my wife) fishes as much as I do, including tournaments. In fact, she's won the Female Angler of the Year 3 times now (in our club). She wants to fish MORE tournaments next year - and buy MORE gear!

Ouch! My wallet hurts! LOL!

btw - she was teh one that insisted I get the Ranger. And if you were at the BassResource.com roadtrip last year, then you'll remember the 7 1/2 pounder she caught. :)

fishing user avatarBranuss04 reply :

HAHAHAHA, my gf is definately not interested.  About 2 years ago when I started fishing again, she started getting into it, she even spent 30 bucks on baits for herself.  I took her out and tought her how to fish.  After about a yeat she took a 180 degree turn and now hates it.  She gives me the glare everytime I say i'm going out, or go and blow money on baits.  But when I go out trolling for trout, i'll take her along so she can catch some rays.

I have a buddy that has a gf who is pretty die-hard.  I guess it can be a good thing and a bad thing.

fishing user avatarhammer84 reply :

Wife no, but the daughter is a fishing machine at 3 years old.  My son and I can't get out of the house without her grabbing her Scooby Doo pole and taggin along.

I love it !!!!!

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

but the last thing I'd want, is a girl who was into fishing as much as I am. I really prefer to fish by myself.

My ex loved to fish, and would have probably fished 75% as much as I do, but fortunately, because of other responsibilties, was only able to go out about 1 out of every 5 or 6 trips of my trips. That was enough for me. I mean, we had a good time when we fished together, however, just like when I'm fishing with any friend, I didn't feel like I was fishing to 50% of my potential, as I was sidetracked with socializing.

Personally, I think it would be ideal to be with a girl who was 100% as passionate as I am about fish, with something different, but similar.... like say, the outdoors, or wildlife.... who wanted to go fishing with me about 1 out of 10 trips.... or should I say, just often enough to stay in touch with my world, and me with hers.

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

Well-written Chris, I can empathize with everything that you wrote.

I cherish my time with male companionship, but it makes me feel almost guilty that I can have an equally or better time

with my wife. You've helped me to understand why that is so. I take my fishing very seriously...waaay too seriously.

If I'm not given my entire head on the water, at the end of the day I'll feel as though I've wasted productive time.

The last time I was out (long time ago) I invited my neighbor across the street. Larry is a good neighbor and great friend,

but he never stopped talking 'all day'. It made me feel good that he was so comfortable in my company,

so I let go of the reins and reminded myself that socializing with a good friend is just as important as fishing.

As a result, my trend of thought and my sense of purpose on the water were basically trashed for the day.

I've been married to the same women for 43 years, a woman thank God who LOVES fishing.

When Lois and I are on the water together, there's no social pressure and I'm able to function at "close" to maximum potential.

I say "close", because oddly enough, I was alone when I caught nearly every personal best (fresh & salt).

I hear you on that man.  Sounds identical to my wife.  "The stare"... it's scary man. Haha.

On the other hand she has days where she loves to go out and catch fish.  For some reason she loves catfishing but prefers to do it at night.  Dunno... somethin' bout night fishing with her I guess.

But yep that, and when you get home from the store with a bag or two of baits and you bring your tackle box up to organize it, it's always "how much did you spend"?  "Why do you have bags from TWO different stores"?  And then when I lie about the price I get the stare again... and then it's "you spend 40-50 bucks on fishing a week... how much do you spend on me"?  And I KNOW I spend more on her.  Don't make me pull reciepts woman!

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Years ago my wife went a couple of times with me but that all changes when (1.) she caught a turtle and felt sorry for it, and (2.) she dropped a rod and reel into the drink.  Luckily it was a Zebco 33 on an old rod.

Now my wife and two daughters go with me to the BPS and pick out pretty baits for me to buy and look at the fish tank.

fishing user avatarCigarlover 1 reply :

I'm with Fish Chris, I like to fish by myself a lot of the time. Luckily for me my wife only goes with me about every 15 times or so. Sorry buddy, she's already taken. lol She does like to fish when she goes though. She doesnt get crazy about gear like I do but she enjoys catching fish. Don't have a girlfriend and don't have a daughter.......yet.  ;)

HAHAHAHA, I think it's a good idea to keep receipts so I can shut her up when she tells me I spend more on fishing than I do on her.  I think that's going to be my new years resolution.... keep all receipts.  My new thing is to keep all items in the car after I buy them, then on my lunch, i'll come home and put them all in the tackle box when she's not there, then take out the trash (Gotta cover all loose ends)

fishing user avatareastkybass reply :

My wife doesn't fish very much only enough to say she goes out with me.  My kids like it but my daughter is the only one that will set there with a pole and not move till she gets a bite.

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

My girlfriend likes to go with me but she hasn't developed an addiction.  But if she always wanted to go, when would we have separate time to ourselves or with your buddies?  Who wants to be with their partner all the time?.  Not me.  Also, how will I ever get a sense of "superiority" if she out fished me, too.  She already kicks my butt in scrabble. ;)

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

My wife doesn't hate fishing per say. She will go a couple times a year and beat the bank with me. BUT she hates that I need all this fishing tackle. My son goes with me a lot during the summer, he is eight years old. But he got tired of it pretty quick come fall time. My niece went with me once and liked it.

I'm with most guys on here.........I like to go fishing by myself and have that alone time on the water or on the bank. I hate it when a group of guys come crashing in.....noisey as all heck....and just cuss away and are rude. That will drive me to break out my raft and go on the water just to get away from them. Happened to me two weekends ago in the early morning hours. THey were there to fish for trout. Funny  thing is about four hours later I hear them from shore saying......."F**king trout....bite ya f-ing trout". Yeah like there really going to bite when your causing a ruckus. The priceless thing is that the one guy drove all his buddies up from out of state promising them some nice brownies. Never happened.

Sorry that I sidetracked this one.  :-/

Point is....fishing alone is the best.

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

To me, it isn't so much whether your wife or partner wants to go fishing with you as it is their ability to "let" you go fishing.  In other words, does your partner give you freedom to pursue what you love or does she expect you to do her bidding 24/7?  I have a friend who is "whipped" and although he has a boat, he only gets to use it a few times a year.  Mostly he's vacuuming the house or painting a fence, or whatever.  The list goes on and on.  Don't get me wrong!  We all have responsibilities and one of those is to give our partner the time/affection/energy they respectfully deserve but as with all things, there needs to be a balance.

I haven't addressed children but that''s a different issue.  I'm far too selfish to have kids. ::)

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Nope,  my wife thinks fishing is a good way to read a book or get a tan. ;D

Well when you have a family there shouldn't be balance. Family time and free time isn't 50/50. Family definatley deserves more than just 50% of your time and energy.

Family comes first in all things. Being "whipped" means your being a good father and husband.

If your fishing just as much or even more than spending time with your family than IMO that is not a good thing. Not just with fishing but with all things in life. Hence the reason why the divorce rate is so crazy these days. It's just a selfish world IMO.

That is fair. I understand.

But also understand that when you have a wife and a child like myself its almost impossible to fish just as much as I spend time with them. Not healthy. Now if your single or just dating than obviously that doesn't come into effect and its hard to see the point I'm trying to make.

fishing user avatarJake P reply :

i dont have any kids yet (thank god) or a wife (thank god) but my female friends always ask to go but they dont do anything they just talk so after the third time of taking them with me and my buddy i banned them from coming becuase they always ask to leave right when we get in the middle of the lake and then make a big deal when we stay a long time. If i could find a woman that loves to fish it would make me a very happy man.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Here is the PERFECT "girl that doesn't fish" trip:

Last spring my partner and I took my daughter white bass fishing. We began with about a ten mile boat ride and then proceeded to catch a HUNDRED or so, white bass. My partner and I hooked them and handed our rod(s) to my daughter to "fight". After awhile she decided to take a break and sunbathe.

We fished for a few hours and went back in, stopped for lunch and got back home in plenty of time for her to get ready for Saturday night. Just a delightful day.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

I've got it pretty sweet, I will be the first to admit.

In re: to chris and rolo in particular, I understand the balance that you guys are talking about and think that I have found it. When I ask her if she wants to go, she ALWAYS says yes. When I tell her that I am going fishing, she never asks to go. And as far as I can tell, she doesn't resent me for not inviting her.

kristabc.jpg

k2-10.jpg

KristaPB3-8.jpg

Brannus can attest,  she is pretty much the best girlfriend ever :D

Also when we fish together, she is COMPLETELY self sufficient and will choose her own baits (usually logically too) and KEEP QUIET! The only time that she might cause distraction for me is when it is hot and sunny and there aren't many boats around, she acts like it is the french riviera ;) A quick trip to the bottom of the boat, and I'm back in business, LOL!

I'm getting to the point that I prefer to fish alone, or with guys that are better than me. I am most efficient and get more bites when I am alone, and when I am with someone who is a better stick, I have a chance to learn and get new perspectives on the conditions.

Then there are my other buddies, like brandon, who i just take along to run the net and camera for me ;) ;D ;D ;D jk buddy!

Oh and my mom will fish too, here is a 55lb Ling cod out of resurrection bay a couple years ago, thing was a toad.

I know it will come up so I will tell you the boys father is Steve Kuberski. His family had about 80 people at their wedding and I got to spend quite a bit of time with Steve and his wife Dianne. They are great people. All of you Boston people are very lucky to have had a player like Steve to represent you and your city. They are great people.

fishing user avatarHandy reply :

My daughter always wanted to go when I went but the older she gets the more I get the "na I'll stay home". She will be 13 in December. She loved to go buy lures, baited her own hooks(live bait), took her fish off unless it was really deep hooked and for the most part would fish the whole time and not complain. So I guess I can't complain. As for the wife part, she can't say anything as we are divorced. I can buy all the gear I can afford(key word here is "afford") and no evil stares. My mother used to fish with my dad once in a while when they were younger. I bet she would still go if he asked her to when he went. My friends wife goes with him allot to fish and they do enjoy the time together so good for them. My brothers wife fished with us on our family vacation up in northern Minnesota and had a good time. So I do know a few women that fish but none that have the bug like I do. I would like to meet a woman that liked to fish but wouldn't have to go with every time as I do enjoy fishing alone.

She will out-fish me about 50% of our trips- but someone has to run the troll motor-- and that's me!

I do not take her fish off the hook, but do net for her.

Last  trip out, I had to get a hook out of her finger- push it thru and cut the barb.  Put a band-aid on the wound, and kept fishing.   She fussed about ruining her lure and getting blood on the boat!

Her biggest liability:   can hang-up her lure as much as anyone I have ever fished with! ! !
