So what inexpensive lures do you use that maybe look and/or perform better than you originally thought they would or that the price point indicated? I have a couple, but the first one that sticks with me and I have the same reaction every time I use it, the Storm Twitch Stick. This jerkbait is fast becoming a favorite, but it was only $5 bucks, so I got one because I liked the look of it online but when I got it I was really impressed with how nice it was for the price, it even has decent hooks which is almost unheard of at that price point. I have to say that after my first one I now have 6 of them, four in the size 10 and two in the size 8, the size 8 takes a single suspend dot to make it suspend but the larger size 10 has been good, in high water temps at or near 50 degrees it needs 1/2 of a suspend dot to make it suspend but even without it rises very slowly. I can add the Rouges to this list at only $1 dollar more or $2 dollars more for the upgraded models like the Cabela's G-Finish rogues and my last one is the Bomber Square A, that little square bill bangs off rocks and comes through cover with the best of them and like every bait I talked about, it just flat out catches fish. Because they are inexpensive I wasn't expecting a lot when I got my first one and it was given to me as a gift and years later it is a staple in my box, and even though I throw a lot of different square bills, the square A is only one I have every time I'm out.
Havoc soft plastics. $2.99 for a a bag of 8-10 baits (on average some have less, some have more), and I have yet to find one that's a dud. I have replaced all my higher priced plastics with Havoc baits, and have not looked back. Some , like the Pit Boss for example are almost as good as it gets for that style of bait. And I was..............WAS............a big fan of the R.I. Beavers, until I switched to the Pit Boss's.
Boss jig making materials are about as good as it gets for jigs (for me) I can make my own head skirt combos with quality heads/skirts for on average $1 or more less than the jigs sold by the big names (SK. Booyah, etc....) or the custom jig makers.
Some of BPS 2" wake baits....think they were less then $4 and have caught more fish on that wakebait then the more expensive ones I have. And although not really inexpensive, but in the world of swimbait fishing, the Savage Gear's 8" line thru's have have really impressed me and is about half the price of most swimbaits in that size range.
Probably for me would be NetBait Paca Craws.....rigged weightless.
Much like a senko, they just seem to catch lethargic bass on hot summer days.
And they're cheap!
Bomber square A's are cheap, they flat out catch fish!
Wiggle Warts. Who knew?!?? Some aren't even inexpensive anymore! It never ceases to amaze me that when something stands out and just flat out works, the public will adjust the demand and price accordingly.
Also, this silly little SnagProof leech I have. I pulled the tiny frog style hook they put in it for a bigger sharper one and all of a sudden this ridiculous looking cheapo bait crushes 'em left and right.
Oh, and Lunker City plastics. They last FOREVER (probably the most durable plastic I'm aware of) and they give you a lot per package. Their Slug-Go SS is probably my favorite sexy finesse T-rig worm and they take a BEATING even with the fine whip tail. Really nice guys too.
All of the Bass Pro Shops XPS lures at fairly good quality. On par w/much more expensive baits. Big Bite Baits soft Plastics are also a good value that perform very well.
I still like to toss a fluke in the springtime.
It hasn't been mentioned yet, but I know a lot of guys here like them.....if I hear/read about one more person saying how good the Academy H20 line of hard baits are for the $$, I am going to have to break down and buy some. LOL
Gamblers Flappy Daddy craws, there web site has them in bulk (50) for $20 and they work great as trailers. Just enough arm movement as a trailer to cause strikes. They have a fairly strong garlic smell that last. With segmented bodies you have 3 sizes to use per bait. Going to try them with MegaStrikes pro shakey head.
I've had a lot of luck with the bps smaller jerks.
My only compliant is the extremely terrible hook quality on them...
Of course that can be fixed!

Agree..
I got a bunch on sale for 2.50ish they seem to regularly be on sale @ BPS
Zoom finnese worm cheap compared to how many fish I catch .
Strike King Premier spinnerbaits with the DSG label. A great rock and bottom contact spinnerbait.
Ive had pretty good luck with alot of the h20 products. The spinnerbaits and squarebills definately exceeded my expectations
None of your "budget" cranks can compete with 2 bucks a piece Rapala lures from BPS´ clearance bin, Only problem is that you gotta be there when that happens, unfortunately those clearances only take place at the stores and never on-line.
BPS XPS cranks and jerks
Academy's Hardbaits
Don't know why but I find zoom soft plastics all the time for $1.99 so i'll add them here.
probably my top 3 favorites are the Berkley havoc pit bosses($3),strike king kvd 1.5(got it on sale for $4)& the original wal--mart cheap arkie jigs(can get them for a little under $2).all have worked very well for me.so much so that they've become 3 of my all time favorites.
Strike king crankbaits. I know Ike and jared lintner use them (to name a couple) and they're not even sponsored! Ive even heard aaron martens talk about them. Definitely one of the better buys in hardbaits.
Rapala shad raps and strike king squarbills can't beat either of them on the price..
Walmart spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. One buck. Customize the blade(s) and skirt to the conditions at the lake and get bit by todes. The buzzbaits need to be tweaked a little but they are a perfect size for smallies.
H20 Express Square Bills - Always seem to work.
Berkley Havoc Pit Boss - Great colors and designs for a great price.
Zoom Finesse Worms - A large bag 'o worms that flat out catch fish.

I'll x2 these and add in Xcalibur crankbaits and rebel wee R's
Cabela's Go-To DT Skirt
Just flat catches fish for me. Usually T-rig them weightless and do a slow stop and go twitchy retrieve.

Nailed it right on the head when it comes to soft plastics and jigs. I do the same aswell.
Northland Weed runners from Fleet Farm. I can get them from $1 to $1.5 and are the best spinner by far.
The shirt material is solid and doesn't slip, and features a small Colorado blade and a prominent willow that is long and thin.
In the white shad with a red belly this is my go-to bait when I am having no luck. I love them so much last sale I bought I think it was 10 just in case I lost a couple through the year.
Bass Assassin Tapout 7.6" Black Blue Tail
Enhanced with liquid salt & infused with BANG
Straight tail worm that is twice as thick as a trick worm.
$2 @ Academy
Catt, what the heck is liquid salt? LOL.
Every year I pick up bags of powerbait whatever for .97 a bag... Every year I buy Zoom tricks, buy one get one, same with senkos, buy one get one..
Xcalibur hard baits... Sometimes $1.99 sometimes $2,99 at that pricing, nothing can compare.
Havoc pits are a great buy.. Get those cheap too.
All helps to keep the bait gorilla happy & me too!
Wait, I think I am the bait gorilla...
Cotton Cordell lipless.
Gonna toss my hat in for the Havoc Pit Boss. It's about as close to an all-conditions bait as it gets.
X2 on the netbait paca's I started using those this year and they are a great bait for the price, now my favorite lure is great for the subject because the price is amazing, especially for the amount of work these baby's put in and thats the Norman cranks. DLil-n, DD-14's, and DD-22's. I picked up about 8 DD-22's last year on sale for 3 bucks a piece and since then I have bought many more and am very pleased with them, they fish true right out of the package have good hardware on them and at 3-5 bucks a piece on average you just cant beat them. Ive caught a lot of fish in the last 2 years with them, the only other crank that I have used that has put more fish in the boat is the rapala jointed shad rap, in shad color love that little crank and the price isnt bad on those either, but since the normans showed up the rapala has taken a back seat. Love those cranks.
I also like the H20 crankbaits. I had one that I lost on a cast, and found it the next week later still able to be fished. Just had to change the hooks and split rings out
SK XD series and the Havoc line
Awesome stuff for 5ish and 3 bucks!
I can't begin to guess how many bags of Havoc Pit's I have. Great bait
Acadamy H3O squarbills
Berkley Havoc Pit Boss, Norman crankbaits, Cotton Cordell Spots, Scum Frogs, Beetle Spins....
Tight lines,
Bob

IDK, I just throw em
The extra thickness gives added casting distance
Fair enough!
A 1/4 oz. ball jig with a 3" grub didn't look like much to me when I first started fishing.
Also, for some reason a 3/16 oz. fire tiger Super Spot has been bit by almost everything that swims my local waters, bass or otherwise.
zman elaztech products. I can't believe i don't read about more guys using them. nothing like catching dozens of fish on a soft plastic.
Bandit crankbaits.
Five inch Yum-Dingers. What are they a pack, around $3.00? Also those Zoom trick worms. They are cheap too you get a bunch in a pack. Get a couple of packs of Yum-dingers and couple packs of Zoom trick worms and you would be set for the whole spring and summer! Cheap, durable and proven bass catchers.
Havoc Pit Boss, Pit Boss Jr., & Academy's H2O hardbaits. (Sorry ww2farmer)
We'll now that my DSG no longer has them I've had some good luck on matzuo jerkbaits. For $3 bucks a pop you can't beat them. Some suspend good right out of the box some not so much. Doesn't really bother me for $3 a piece. They do have an extremely erratic action though.
Havoc and Big Bite Baits
I agree that those BPS xps lure and the H2O academy hardbaits awesome!
strike king KVD 1.5
All Academy H2O xpress line
Define inexpensive. I think the Spro Aruku Shad is great for the price. Comparing to the cost of most lipless cranks, this one is a steal. 6 bucks with good hardware make it a no brainer. Typically out fishes lures I own that cost twice as much.

Same. I really like the Havoc stuff particularly the soft plastics jerk bait "The Jerk" in Disco Shad color.
Zoom plastics......In particular the magnum finesse worm.
I'm also a fan of Norman crankbaits. The deep baby N has been very good to me.
I also like Northland Thumper jigs rigged with a grub or a minnow. Primarily used up north for Walleye but the 3/8 works well for bass. Cheap and well made.
The original H&H spinner bait. A Southern tradition. 1.99.
Old school basser...
Cotton Cordell Super Spots. I don't like BPS and a lot of other cheaper lures, but those work, and I can't complain with that.
Cotton Cordell 2 1/4" Big O in chrome for clear water smallies
I'll contribute to the Havoc Pit Boss train. Those things are a solid deal
Gitzit tube 3.5 in.
Havoc plastics and H2O hard baits.
Norman Fat Boy
Havoc and some of the BPS plastics. S.K. cranks are a bargain. Booyah Pad Crashers are darn good frogs for the price.
On 12/12/2014 at 9:47 PM, Catch and Grease said:Bomber square A's are cheap, they flat out catch fish!
absolutely!
Sam, I agree with you on Bandit cranks. I would say that roughly 1/2 of my 300+ cranks are Bandits, 100, 200, 300 and 400 series and probably 20+ colors, They always run true out of the box, good hooks and hardware and at 5 bucks a pop, a really great lure,
I have a rebel of a spook. In bone. Cost a buck. Caught more fish on it than some of my 7 dollar rapalas
Blaze minnow floating jerkbait
Picked them up for a buck a piece
Smallmouth kill them
Went back and bought 30 of them
Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps
Rapala Husky Jerks and DT's
Rat-L-Traps, not exactly inexpensive but compared to others in the market, a damned good buy to me, always slams the fish
siebert outdoors jigs. amazing quality, my favorite jigs and very cheap. ex. $2.75 for a custom swimjig
