For me it was a few years ago, an Osprey 8" swimbait. I casted, got caught up in some brush and the 20 lb Seaguar floro line snapped when I put pressure trying to pull the Osprey swimbait free. It was in about 5' of water and about 50' or so out of my reach...I was so tempted to wade out and save it. Like a dummy, I went and bought a new one, and still didn't catch a bass on it.
So what's your story???
I got a Yozuri lipless crankbait in a MTB once. First cast and got it snagged on a rock. Looked it up and it was like 13 bucks. Not a ton, but still sucked
Anything Yo-Zuri or X-Rap.
I do not usually use something more expensive than those.
Offshore salt fishing I have lost more expensive lol.
Lucky craft ...did a over hand toss and boom snag it on electric tower
Not me, but one time my Dad lost quantity which added up in cost. He was fishing with mono, and snagged a lure about 10' out from the bank. I guess he thought he could pull the hung lure off of what it was hung on. After breaking the line and tying on a new lure, he hooked the lure that was hung with a second lure. Lost the second lure also. He ended up with 4 or 5 baits all tangled together about 10' off the bank. Problem was there was a pretty good drop off so he was in hung up in deep water, and couldn't reach the lures. I still kid him about that one from time to time.
I've lost more Lucky Crafts than I care to remember. One day two winters ago I lost 4 Strike King King Shads that I'd bought at original price ($21.99) the same day. I was smoking big hybrids with them so I couldn't really complain.
Custom painted 6" Bull Shad Swimbait - $125 is sitting on the bottom of Guntersville.
I casted off a $60 bait in the river the other day and I've hung quite a few hudds while fishing from the bank.
Can't say I've ever lost an expensive one from the boat.
Lucky Craft Live LVR, 2 of them in less than an hour, both to small northern pike. D#!* snot rockets!
Tom
Roman Made Negotiator swimbait, my first and last bite came from a toothy critter and a 90$ bait is gone. I also casted off a Matt lures Hard Perch a few years back and if I can remember that one ran 60$. What made it extra difficult is that I loved that bait. Fortunately I've picked up a few more.
LOL, that negotiator would be tough to swallow losing. Ouch.
Pretty sure I would have a stroke if I busted off a $90-100 lure. . . . snagging $7 Xcalibur square bills is about as bad as it gets here.
QuoteI've lost more Lucky Crafts than I care to remember.
Half a dozen Slim Shad, in the same spot, and I KNEW they were pike. Wasn't getting bit with leaders - probably a depth or action thing - but catching a few 8 lb.+ fish. Expensive, and a little dumb, but lots of fun.
My tacklebag drowned in the Tennessee River last year. I thought it would float, but I was wrong.

That is an expensive lure... I'd be sick for the rest of the day (probably the rest of the month) when and if something like that happens to me.

Yeeeowch!
A Pop Max first day out with it, my second bait over $10 in my life and last one. That sucker cast a little too well, it is now 30' foot up a tree over 6' of water. My Pop-r landed some nice ones this year I will stick with those from now on.

Very tough, first outing that I used it.
Lucky crafts are the most expensive I can remember.
I lost three BPS Topnocker to big bass who went down in the deep weeds with them. There not made anymore so these awesome topwater fish catchers are priceless.
Fishing from shore I try yo control my football field long cast a now.
Very first cast I ever made with an Alabama Rig, I made a massive birdsnest and watched my $25 setup (A rig + jig heads + swim baits) go flying about 50 yards out into Lake Okeechobee. Never made one retrieve with it...
megabass xj-100....Which is no longer sold in America . Ive looked and they can be had online, but are getting scarcer and more expensive.
Megabass Cyclone for me... It was hung up too deep for me to get to. I made a good go at it though. Ended up being a nice day of swimming.
dear road warrior, i am saddend by your loss and just reading your post gave me chills and made my heart hurt to read. i once lost a couple older lucky rc1 silent fishing the river, hitting jetties with current, largemouth and sbig spots were stages on ambushing shad in the current breaks. got them hung in rope hanging off a bouy, hooks tangles in the cotton rope!!! too short to pull up and too deep to grab! but my son once lost a jewel jig with zoom ultravibe speeedcraw on it! not too expensive right, but it was attached to 17 lbs seaguar that was attached to a at the time, a brand new revo stx gen 2, and it was attached to a falcon cara swimjig special. its resting place is at the bottom of a local lake i frequent and still hope that just maybe i can see a glimspe of my new rod! it was the first time i had takn it out fishingand only casted it 3 times to set the magnets before my son threw it overboard! lol o well i guess, im here to talk about at least, wish i had that one back!

My first trip at Clear Lake, I lost $54.00 in swimbaits in the first 40 minutes and was not happy. Then I figured out why, made an adustment and wacked em'.
truthfully i have lost atleast 25 spinner baits getting caught on rocks, i got hung up on a rock about 30 feet out from shore with a 15$ crank bait and swam in after it, im a poor college kid now a days if i get hung up i go in and get it... lol
Thought Id try an alabama rig. It was $16 alone, plus i got gamakatsu swimbait hooks, and fresh swim flukes. In all, about a $26 lure. I went to cast it once and smacked something behind me that backlashed my line. It flew, the line got taught, snapped, and there it kept going. Quite a few $12-13 lures snagged and lost too. And its always the ONE theyre keyed on on that day and not in stock anywhere! Lol
Have a friend that flipped his kayak, lost tackle box full of senkos and two rods (mojo bass)!
I haven't really lost anything expensive, but losing the cheap lures can put a damper on my mood sometimes. The large jointed rapalas are not necessarily cheap, but I remember losing like 5 of those within a couple months.

The same popmax I sent you? Ouch..
Fortunately, the most expensive lure I can remember losing is a Sammy.... I have dropped a couple of combos overboard, but managed to grab them before they sunk out of sight.

I lost 5 kvd 1.0/1.5 lures in 1 day. All in the same area too. Its where i lost my 4-5lber and been hitting that area hard and its costing me money trying to catch it!

Umh yeah that one. Waiting til the leaves drop and hopefully once I can see it there will be a rescue.
I seem to have lost my fair share of spinnerbaits. Nothing too expensive but I have lost very big fish to them. The worst was an 8 pounder that grabbed it two feet from the boat and then literally seconds later rubbed a tree sticking out of the water to break my line....I almost jumped in after her.
Last year I had a Calcutta 250 TEGT go over the side of the boat in 20 + feet of water. Ouch. Oh well.
Also last year I lost $40 worth of Terminator Twin Spins, in less than 15 minutes, trying to convince myself that they would be a good drop lure in timber. The moral of that story is that Twin Spins are great baits when you are stair stepping them down rock banks, 45 degree incline or greater. Twin spins do not make great drop baits in timber. Live and learn.

just picked one up, cool bait.
I lost about $150.00 in a tackle bag I left on the back of the car to go fish with a buddy. I was sick about It until I came to the realization that In re-stocking I would only buy things I will use. I still have several baits I rarely use but from that day forward I choose carefully and make durn sure I don't have another Item that will hang on the pegboard fishing closet.
Lost a strike king 6xd crank that cost $6.00 but it was attached to a giant bass that would have one me 1st place in a tournamennt as a result i finished 7th just outside the money. if i had that fish id have one 1st and had big fish to boot. cosrt me about $1256.
Custom painted jitterbug. A pickerel snatched it and in doing so cut the line. I wonder if anyone caught the pickerel and retrieved the lure.
Oh and my younger brother had trouble with his knots and lost two brand new lures yesterday. I still feel bad for him.
Most expensive lure was a super spook which is about $7, but I have chucked my revo winch gen3 into a private pond which is $200. The d@#n thing couldn't cast a 1/2 swim jig 20 feet and eventually got ticked enough to pull it off my rod and throw it in. Sad part is that it was a month old and was imo a complete piece of **** of a reel. Don't plan on doing anything close to that again, unless I buy another abu garcia reel.
I stuffed a wave with the bow of my boat one day coming out of a calm creek on to the lake where it was blowing 30+ straight down the lake. Lost my terminal tackle plano 3700 box over the side with about $200 worth of tungsten in it, not to mention all the jig heads, hooks, and other stuff I had for rigging. As far as single lures lost at a time, it only took 3 bites offs on lucky craft sammys to realize I will never EVER own or use $15+ hard baits again as long as there are Pike in my home lake.
Lost a Roman Made Mother last week. My own stupid fault. At least I didn't pay retail for it.
I've lost several sammies...luckily I got them on sale.
Matt Lures Hard Gil.
I had cauught three fish on it without checking line for frays/nicks and when i had the last fish with it, (3lbs maybe) as the fish made its final surge, my line snapped. Man, i was ticked.

Whoa. Even 50% off would hurt with that puppy.
I just lost my first Lucky Craft Flat D20 crankbait a couple days ago. I tried to free her from every angle and she just wouldn't come home. RIP... we had a good time while it lasted.
I have lost a couple of Hudd 68's when I put a treble hook on the bottom ring and also lost a 9 inch bull shad on a steep cliff in 40 feet of water.
Also may i ask what is a Sammy?

that one seriously sucks, what happened cast off?
A Sammy is a stickbait made by Lucky Craft, and MSRP's at $15.99 or so. They're really a nice bait, but it hurts to lose one.On 6/30/2013 at 4:16 AM, mikeeasttn said:I have lost a couple of Hudd 68's when I put a treble hook on the bottom ring and also lost a 9 inch bull shad on a steep cliff in 40 feet of water.

I lost a $9 Sexy Dawg not too long ago. Not the price of the lure that got me. It was how I lost it....poor goose.
Lake I was fishing is known for some 8-10lb Northern Strain fish with the odd 11-12 thrown in. I've caught a lot of 7lb+ fish on Punkers and Triples, and decided to throw the Roman Made at them. There also happen to be Muskies in this lake. I just didn't think about it, usually throw a heavy fluorocarbon leader on baits like that. I just forgot, grabbed my rod and chucked it. About 25 casts later my line went right, I set the hook, felt the weight, and then nothing. On 6/30/2013 at 7:51 AM, vikingbear8 said:that one seriously sucks, what happened cast off?

Thanks Bass Junkie.
Last week I had to break of a $27 alabama rig
$15 bass pro shops Z9R Perch swimbait. Broke off on 20lb braid when I let my friend throw it on his rod. I didn't really care because I never caught anything on it and the swimming action was so unrealistic.
Live target frogs, boy was I mad. They seem to have dropped the price a little. I did lose a live target crank my friend gave me but I was able to retrieve it because there was enough braid floating, bad batch of PP.
The most expensive lure I caught was actually one I found. I was using a deep diving crank and snagged up some line and on the other end was a brand spanking new Live Target crankbait. It was like a 8-9 dollar lure. Not a whole lot of money but it was the most expensive one Ive lost.
You can go ahead and send all those you don't want to me. I'll take them off your hands. On 6/30/2013 at 8:46 PM, CPBassFishing said:$15 bass pro shops Z9R Perch swimbait. Lent a $8 Rapala DT6 Baby Bass to our pastor's 14 year old son who assured me "he knew how to properly tie a knot to a crank"......I'll let you figure out the rest of the story.
I don't buy expensive lures that much because i only have so much money, however i did lose a strike king sexy frog when my line snapped on a bass on one of my local pond. I bought a new one the next day and went out fishing only to find it on top of the water where I lost it. The bass must of spit it out.
However I did lose a Daredevil to a big pike. (I mostly fish soft plastics)
The one I didn't loose but woulda lost was a $17 custom painted jerk bait. I swam naked in 54 degree water to get it back. only one I had and only thing that they were biting.
Glad I usually don't fish expensive baits. The quantity of cotten cordell rattle traps ive lost adds up and is a scary thought. The lures that bother most losing were the two booyah spinners ive lost the last two weeks. First one was a 6 pounder that wrapped around a sunken tree limb. The second was a four that popped the line as soon as I got him out of the water, and watched him swim off with the spinner still stuck to the side of his face.
Ugh! Lost 2 lures last night fishing but caught 2 bass with different lures...I don't think that makes up for losing 2 lures. 1st lure was a new Cabelas Swimbait, $7 and lost a jig on an errant cast into the trees. The jig I'm not too worried about the swimbait was like my second cast...and gone. A bit of sob, sob; but I recovered. I could just imagine the fish that Cabelas swimbait would have caught...
One day I remember now I left 5 New lures in the trees I guess I was in a hurry to fish. It was an expensive day that day. I haven't done that since. I don't rush anymore.
Lucky Craft slender pointer this past spring. Set the hook on what I think was a smallmouth and line snapped. That one hurt, especially because BlueBasser had loaned it to me to use for the day.
For me just cheap stuff nothing expensive, but i had kinda a funny story that goes along with it. My dad has always loved the white mepps aglia spinner and he went to DSG and they only had one so he got it. We went fishing in little river by where we live and he brought it and a black one that was kinda old just incase he started fishing and it got snagged on anything he didn't see he said. So he casts a few times with the older one and then switchs to the white one. First cast snagged a tree root in the river.
