How much do you spend on tackle? 2024

fishing user avatarBassmaster3616 reply :

When I say tackle I mean hooks, weights, boxes, bags, plastics, hard baits, and everything tackle wise. Wondering how much you guys spend monthly and yearly. I would say I spend anywhere between $25-$50 a month. I use lots of senkos. How much do you guys spend?

fishing user avatarNathan Burton reply :

I would say I fall into the $50ish a month category. As I am a recreational angler.

fishing user avatarKyhokie reply :

Very clever bassmaster...or should I say... MRS. KYHOKIE!!! I think this is someone's wife that has infiltrated our secret club, trying to garner information, I'm sure. Lol, this could def be used in a court of law so I plead the fifth.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I am not sure, nor do I really want to know. B)

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

To d**n much.

fishing user avatarcgolf reply :

100-300 a year depending on what is going on with the family. It has taken me a while, but I really have all the tackle I need. Yearly now I restock what I depleted and add a few new things to try. Can't wait till the kiddo gets out of college, life will get much easier lol. I really need some new spinning reels, I have gotten almost 7 years out of a couple of shakesphere excursions, not sure how much longer then will last, but for mid 20 buck reels they have been rock stars.

I do really try to shop sales a lot and my in laws get me fishing gear for Christmas too.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

I don't like to think about it.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

As much as I need! ;)

fishing user avatarbigturtle reply :

As much as I want :)

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

You don't think I'm going to answer that question truthfully do you ?

fishing user avatarMosster47 reply :

Overall it has to be at least $5k. I have at least 60lbs worth of plastics.

Glide baits are on the menu this year and they aren't cheap.

fishing user avatartimsford reply :

As much as i can get away with. I always try to make it sound like an "investment" to the wife, but I'm scared she may be catching on

fishing user avatarFrenchman83 reply :

For me it's probably < $10 per month.   As the kids get older my life is consumed with youth sports.  Wouldn't change it for the world.

fishing user avatariiTzChunky reply :

I've been burning through soft baits lately so probably around 30-40$ on plastics and trying new hard baits.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

It depends on who you ask, I don't think I spend enough but my bank statements say otherwise haha. I try to restock when what I use is on sale. I think I tend to do alright during the summer months, but over the winter when I can't fish I'm always thinking about fishing and browsing tackle websites and whatnot so I end up pulling the trigger more often.

fishing user avatarPourMyOwn reply :

Less than $100 a year-I really only restock line and terminal tackle these days. I may grab a rod and reel using rewards points, or pick up a new jig or worm mold, but that's about it. I'm 39 and could probably get away with never buying another bait for the rest of my life.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

I spend what I spend.  I...like most.....work very hard for my living.  I provide a roof over the head of my family and everything else they need.  I've never bought fishing gear when I had other priorities.   I have no other hobbies and I don't drink.  Even with all that, it's probably still less than $1000 a year.  I don't hide anything from my wife because I don't have to....nor would I live a life that would require me to hide anything like that.

fishing user avatarRUSS9999 reply :

About 6,200 the last 3.5 years. But I sold the boat and tackle in 2001 and started over again 3.5 years ago. Add a used boat over 12,000 the last 3.5 years.

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

In the last 3years it really hasnt been nothing at all. But..... just this summer, i spent 200.00 dollars. All items were clearance.

5 falcon bucco rods 19.99 each

10 new Suffix 832 6.00 each

25 pack of spinshot hooks 1.00 each

Did i NEED it all,no but i aint stupid.;) i pass it on to reletives and they are very happy:)

fishing user avatarYakPirate reply :

Not enough apparently , cause I ain't catching ***** .. no really , i'm at about $800 annually..  i try to get out 3x a week if possible ... bite is very tough up here right now

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i like to bargain shop, so it's less than it could be, but probably more than it should be!

fishing user avatarBaitMonkey1984 reply :

I would say I spend $200-300 on tackle exclusively each month. More in the winter. I rarely need anything but I stock up on sales and am always looking for the next hot lure. Despite two boats and a garage of tackle, I still use a handful of lures  99$ of the time- Watermelon creme 5" GYCB seiko, green pumpkin TRD, green pumpkin Crazy Chigger craw, keithech EZ shiner, and a Zoom Old Monster Black Trick Worm. I told the misses this last night and she was beyond angry because when TRDS first came out they were no where to be found, she was on a business trip and there was a BPS so I had her clean out the TRDs, every color. She is wondering why I "needed" all those colors. I told her same reason she "needs" all her different pairs of shoes. Conversation over.

fishing user avatarGORDO reply :

At least $150/month on gas and replacing lures. I lose a lot of crankbaits to musky and pike sadly. Good thing Im not married or have kids so I can spend as much money on fishing, traveling, and beer as I want!

fishing user avatarYoTone reply :

since the start of the year its been over $1K in lures and line.

i like them pretty lures too much.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I'm fairly certain that in the past 12 months or so I've set a new Personal Best in the cash out area.

One that I will not be eclipsing any time soon.

:annoyed1:

fishing user avatarDamn Yankee reply :

After numerous calculations, 10% more than I can afford.

fishing user avatarRed Bear reply :

i maybe have spent $20 on tackle all year. i havent done much fishing this year though, and coming into the year i had all i needed to begin with. of course im not one to rush out and by the latest and greatest, heck i dont even buy everything i actually want to buy because i dont actually need it. the most expensive thing i've bought this year is probably a storm jointed thunderstick...

fishing user avatarIamNewbie reply :

Coming to think of it, last year I spent upwards of $230+ on tackle. But this year I've spent maybe only $150 so far. (Shouldn't of been 150 at first but additional shipping SUCKS) and I'm about to spend another $120 after the weekend is over. Might have to wait on it though might not have the money to just simply order $120 worth of tackle after we celebrate my GF's birthday lol.

Last year I got tackle rpetty much every pay check, but this year I've been getting a steady supply of tackle from LTB and really I just didn't go order tackle for some reason. I'm about to order 3 spooks, 3 frogs, a few yum dingers, 2 rod sleeves, a swim jig, a new Rage Craw color, Yum Craw Papis in two different colors, 2 new tackle boxes, fluro line for my new rod/reel, 2 Storm Twitch Sticks in two different colors, and some Shaky Heads (never tried shaky head fishing before)

21 items total, $107.61 with the LTB $5 off. Might add some more since I'm under $120 lol... but I shouldn't. But I want to. But I don't need to... decisions decisions.

fishing user avatarspeed craw reply :

Roughly $ 200 to $300  per month when I am not buying rods and reels . Fishing is my only hobby so I don't think its to bad I guess .

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

I have more plastics than I will ever use but I still buy more. sickness and hobby are synonymous ;)

a good way to save money on lures is to invest in a lure retriever.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

I refuse to answer this one truthfully.

I spend probably $100+ a month alone just chipping in my part of fuel and tournament entry fee's.

fishing user avatarfishwizzard reply :

I spend far far more then I should, mainly because I get fixated on trying a new presentation/style.  My latest kick is senkos/flukes/t-rigged 6" worms and I now have four 3600 cases full of tackle and a bin of spares.  I did catch my first senko bass this morning, but it is still way overboard.

I also buy way way too much stuff if I can get a "deal" on it.  I had to unsubscribe from Outlet Tackle's mailing list as I was just buying piles of crap I didn't even really have a plan for.

I am on the cusp of getting my fishing room organized and then I am going to sell off everything I don't actively use.

fishing user avatarMad Scientist reply :

Just whatever "extra" I have for the month. I would never put my hobbies before my home and family, so my wife supports my fishing as long as I hold true to that.

I buy a lot of stuff on sale, too. So while I might make a "big" purchase now and then, I really try to get the most bang for my buck.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

plenty

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

I've had a lifelong presdisposition to collect things so it's up there.  I've always tried to spend $50/month at the local tackle shop to support them but I'm at the point where I'm just running out of new things to buy.  But if you combine online with brick and mortar stuff I've bought and averaged out over the months I've been fishing...a few hundred bucks easy.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

I saw the title of this thread and laughed out loud; that's the million dollar question.  :D

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Buying tackle for me has been a hobby for the last several years.  Even in the last few that I did not have a boat, if a nice rare reel or rod came available, well, let's just say it's probably not available anymore.

Now for the how much part?  "Your honor, I plead the 5th."

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

I went a little crazy this spring on Rapala Shadow Raps 'cause Field & Stream had them on sale and I caught a TON of bass on them.

Same, huge fan

fishing user avatarcrypt reply :

about 1500.00 a year……..easy.

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

It's either too much or not enough, it's unclear. Custom rods is another story.

fishing user avatarJigMaster4 reply :

Well...... If there is a big TW sale that month my monthly spending goes up quite a bit. :D

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

I spend "just enough"...

JUST ENOUGH to keep my tackle box full and interesting..... and ...

JUST ENOUGH not to tick the wife off ... too much ...

fishing user avatargimruis reply :

I generally do not keep buying new lures and tackle on a constant basis except soft plastics.  For various reasons, they just wear out quicker than hard lures (especially senkos which are way over priced and not durable).  I re-spool all my reels every spring.

You guys think bass tackle is expensive?  Go buy muskie gear.  Everything is 3-4 times the cost of what your already paying for bass stuff.

Enough..... Some months more than others. :)

fishing user avatarAngry John reply :

i usually go 50 a month and thats to get free shipping from tackle warehouse.  I have tons of good gear already so thats just terminal tackle and baits i want to try.  I would say i also get a reel or more a year which will run 300ish.  I pick up a steez on sale when i can get them for that price.

Having seen some of your acquisitions I think there are quite a few zeros involved after that initial dollar signB)

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself!

fishing user avatarOklahoma Mike reply :

Where's the dude who posted pics of like 9 new NRX rods in the bait monkey thread? I wanna hear hear what he has to say here!

fishing user avatard-camarena reply :

Around 300 a month, im a sucker for swimbaits

fishing user avatarDjf3864 reply :

It really varies, but I would say on a yearly basis well over $1000.  Some of that comes from selling stuff off to buy newer/different stuff, the rest is TW, BPS and other online retailers.

fishing user avatarFishinthefish reply :

Tackle, storage, and attire south of 1k a year. I refuse to admit, accept, or disclose my rod amount even after reselling my older stuff that usually doesn't age more than three years.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

My last TW order a couple weeks ago was $350.62. Of course, as soon as it got here I remember some things I forgot to order.

The collecting is half the fun for me.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

I haven't spent much at all on tackle this year. Just some line, hooks and jigheads.

But, my rod building shop is very well equipped. An Alps power wrapper with upgrade chuck, separate rod dryer motor and stands, a PLC based system I put together and programmed to run both dryers, Rikon mini lathe, five different chucks for the lathe, turning tools, cork jigs and saws, mandrels 1/4" - 5/8", multiple clamping devices, turning tools, Worksharp knife sharpener used to prep guide feet, HEPA filter, dehumidifier, dust collection system, two benches, a brazillion cork rings, don't know how many spools of thread, etc, etc, etc,,,

I haven't added it all up, but it's way more than I've ever spent on tackle in any comparable time frame.

fishing user avatarclh121787 reply :

Not much anymore. I have enough tackle to las a long ass time. But I am expecting 2 phoneys 2 more hinkles and 3 hinkle trout before fall time. Swimbait waitung list game is no joke. That's gonna set me back a bit. 1 trout on ebay should cover most of that though.

fishing user avatarBrikon reply :

I spend way more than I should, but not enough to keep me satisfied... ?

fishing user avatarStingray23 reply :

Its never ending. Right when I tell myself enough is enough, I go right back to the for sale section of every forum I frequent and look for more stuff. And I love it. lol

fishing user avatarlakeannaangler reply :

Way too much. Probably about 800 a year, mostly TW on black Friday and Christmas

fishing user avatarwnspain reply :

That depends on who is asking and since I have no personal relationship with anyone here, I respectfully exercize my constitutional right given to me by the 5th ammendment

fishing user avatarstk44 reply :

With my recent promotion, my wife hasn't complained too much in the $300/month range.

I typically do $100 or so per month, even when I only need $20 worth of gear. I mean you're just missing out if you don't spend the extra money to get the free shipping right?

My wife calls me a fishing nerd, but who cares...

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Don't even ask. example,,,,,once a crankbaits works I purchase every color shallow and deep. I do the same with every bait.

If I don't spend my money on me the misses will spend it on the next guy right?

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

I honestly have to say about $400 a year. This includes rods and reels too. I do try to save bigger stuff like rods and reels and even some of the pricier lures for Christmas, birthdays, Father's Day, Anniversary etc. so that it technically doesn't come out of my own pocket, I also go down twice a year to visit my Dad who lives in Pennsylvania near the Cabelas store in Hamburg, PA and him and my stepmom always treat us to a few purchases there (they have a Cabelas card so a majority of those are covered with the points). For example this year I bought two reels out of pocket, one cost $80 and the other would have cost the same but I got it on sale for $40 so there's $120 right there and I've easily spent another $200 on lures, line and miscellaneous stuff like tackle bags and trays. I would LOVE to be able to afford $300 per MONTH in tackle but unless i win the lottery that's not gonna' happen anytime soon...lol.

fishing user avatarNorthernstrike reply :

I can't be left alone in  cabelas or bass pro or I'll be walking out -$900  but I'm gonna say I'm about 170$ a month  lose a lot of rapalas

fishing user avatarWildbillb reply :

I am not married, but this is funny.
