What Triggers Your Tackle Itch 2024

fishing user avatarBrnnoser6983 reply :

So I have a normal routine during the day, but a part of it I normally stroll through the Flee market section, and swing over to TW to see what they have for the daily offer.

But i have noticed that a major factor to my buying is YouTube. I love going through unboxing, and reviews and so to say "window shop" this way. I value others opinions highly and I think this plays into my buying habit.

What makes you tick? Anything that makes is better or worse?

Do you actively look for them though or stumble upon them?

fishing user avatartbone1993 reply :

In store sales. I cannot resist  50% off of an already marked down clearance item. Also when they will price match and have a storewide discount. Gander was awesome for this. Got some spro baits for 6 and some 10xds for around 8.

fishing user avatarMatthew2000 reply :

Sales and catching a lot of fish on one lure then running out.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

For me, tackle itch is started by either

running low or on empty on a good bait,

or sales.

fishing user avatarABW reply :

A depleted supply of a certain bait even though I have plenty other things to fish with. Also, TW's sales are irresistible.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I find being awake is usually what makes me want to buy fishing gear but I do sometimes get the urge while I'm sleeping as well.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

For me there are a couple of different factors that have to come together.

1). Something New.

By that, I mean a new approach or a brand new design, not just a new color or a slight variation on an existing theme.   And it doesn't need to be a this years deal, a New To Me that's 20 years old is especially attractive.

AND

2).  What ever it is, I must believe that it is applicable in the waters I fish.    Since a Bass is a Bass, anywhere, in some cases the only way to know is to try it.  But in many circumstances, some deals simply do not translate to this area.  So they may get a brief look and then they are passed over.

Still others make me tilt my head like an interested puppy and say "Really ?"

Sales. Bought a lews tournament mg for $90 today really shouldn't have lol.

TW is my homepage

fishing user avatarMichiganBass80 reply :

Lots of things trigger my tackle itch.  It can be seeing a technique done on a fishing show that I don't normally use, it could be something that is getting a lot of attention in here or on another forum, it could be that I am just getting low in the stuff I use a lot.  Or it could just be winter and I'm losing my mind so I buy stuff lol  :eyebrows:  :respect-059:  :cry4:

My latest one is swimbaits and tackle.  Went to a Fishing Expo back in January and saw a seminar with Mark Zona, and he was talking swimbaits.  Since then I have been looking, buying a few packs here and there, hooks, etc...

Before that, Jigs.  I wasn't touch a of a jig thrower, but it was something that at the end of last year I decided I was going to improve on this coming season.  With all the reading I do on here and all the mentions of Sieberts jigs, I started placing orders with Mike and it has become and addiction lol.  I haven't been able to use most of the ones I have bought from him yet, but I am already getting ready to place another order for some different colors.

Then there is the "I'm getting low so I HAVE to buy more" excuse.

And of course, with new techniques, you HAVE to buy new rod and reel setups..  :eyebrows:  :fishing1:

Cool stuff. I just bought a cf handle I don't need but if I do get that new alphas sv it will be standing by.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

For me, it's boredom brought on by not being able to go fishing, so the monkey gets held at bay from March to October. All of my reels, rods and electronics over the last ten years have been purchased in Nov. Dec. or Jan.  I think I'll just rip those out of my calendar next year and see if that doesn't eliminate the spending.

Hey now...Santa has brought me some good lures in the past. And Bluebasser86 is right. For me though, it's this little thing called money. Payday is a sad day for my wallet.

I'm not a 'window shopper' by any means; I'm a 100% 'Target Shopper' who comes with a Command List

If it's not on my Buy List , I can walk past millions of dollars of angling merchandise without blinking an eye.

What's more, if the items on my list are not in stock, I may never revisit that store again.

I shop 'online' 99.5% of the time.

In this manner you're in the comfort of your home, you are going to find 'everything' you want,

and you're not going to burn any gasoline and rubber. As though that weren't enough,

online distributors like Amazon & eBay invariably undercut the prices set by the brick & mortar retailers

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I don't have an itch to scratch.  Not only do I fish 7 days a week, I catch them everyday too.  I fish with no more than 5 or 6 different items, seldom buy anything else.  When I'm not catching fish is when I'll look at different lures.

I lost a 3/4 oz Acme kastmaster (hung it up on a rope by a dock), went into DSG, walked right to the rack picked 3 and didn't look at any thing else in the store.  I may have spent 3 minutes there, which was more time than I cared.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I don't know.  I can usually go into BPS, or Cabela's, and just look around without buying anything.  If I go into a mom and pop tackle store and find something I have never seen before, then I have a problem.

I am always actively searching for sales. I travel for work so I get to check out DSG, BassPro and/or Cabelas pretty often.

This is exactly how I feel.  If I had a GOOD local-family-owned-type shop though, I'd really REALLY like that and gladly pay a little extra to fondle and talk...  Er, fondle gear and talk to people.  Not the other way around.   :laugh5:

Try telling the bait monkey that

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

I totally will. It's pretty simple to me. We buy stuff because we tell ourselves that we need it. It just shows that we have no willpower. We have an addiction that's really no different from a drug addiction. We 'feel' bad if we don't get our fix.

The ones who can resist and only buy what they need. They have the willpower the rest of us don't. I wish I could be like y'all.

I would agree winter kicks it in high gear. I know when I fish in the summer I don't want to buy as much. I will go into a store here and there to stock up, but never binge like I do now.. I just got some stuff in. And I put another order.. I know I ordered over $60 in plastics alone, and plan on putting in another @70 this Friday on some spinners.

Let's see...

Lately it has been tournament success, BR member recommendations and infomercials.

So here are some "new to me" which I have not fished or barely fished:  6th Sense Crush

Flat 75X, Rapala DT6 (Demon), Scatter Rap and Shadow Rap. Yet to acquire: Mann's

Reel 'N Shad, ZMan Pop Shadz, Siebert Outdoors Fogy, Savage Hollow Frog Action Legs

and Duo Realis Spinbait (spybait).

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

For me lately, it's been seeing some really nice looking baits from small bait producers on FB.  Hand poured  baits in custom colors and custom jigs.  I've got a ton of stuff lately from these kind of guys and have some really, really nice stuff.  Plus, you're doing business with  guys or gals with families that are doing something they put a lot of pride into.  Win, win.

fishing user avatarJay Ell Gee reply :

I have just about got all of the baits that I need until I burn through some...

Until I got a BVK 8wt for Christmas. Now I need to fill boxes of redfish, bass and carp flies and will probably take up tying here shortly...

Do NOT take up fly fishing if you have no impulse control!

fishing user avatarWill Wetline reply :

I like to click on "Shop By Brands" on TW. Then I have a look at what AA's worms has to offer. This year for sure I'm going to see how I like Z-Man's Elaztech products.

I keep a pad of narrow ruled paper handy and write everything down. Doesn't mean I'm going to order but it's all there if I do decide to whip out the credit card.

I'm like a lot of people. Boredom; particularly related to bad weather.

Every time I get a new rod I have to get some new baits that I will use on that rod to give that rod a fighting chance at success.

Many potential sponsors have been rejected. Glenn is very selective regarding both the quality

of the product and the reputation of the company.
