Anyone else have the same problem that they have so much tackle they cannot find what they are looking for? My basement, garage, living room, and SUV have so much tackle that I have a hard time finding anything I am looking for. The stuff I use 90% of the time I can find but when someone asks if I have something they are looking for it is like a search for the Holy Grail around here. It is out of hand with the mounds of different boxes of lures to the point it takes me forever to find something. An example is someone was looking for some SK spin shad spinnerbaits and it took 6 weeks for me to find them hidden in a old spinnerbaits box that I forgot about. Good thing is I finally found them with some SK Titanium baits that someone else was looking for. This has gotten ridiculous with the hording of baits. Hopefully in the next several months I can cull out the 1000 baits I will never use so I can actually walk around my basement and find what I am looking for,

I have 3 tackle boxes containing 5 3700 size containers .. and I thought that was hard to manage. Can’t imagine all that.

Last count I had 46 Plano boxes and 7 66quart containers for stuff that is extra that I don't carry in the boat. It has become ridiculous and I expect the fishing lures hoarders to show up at any time to berate me.

I carry at least 12 rods and if I broke off every cast I would run out of line before I ran out of lures.

Simplify. Lower it down to only the absolute bare necessities. Then cut that in half
95% of my tackle is in my boat. I only keep extra plastics and a few cranks that I know I will need when I run out or lose. I know exactly where everything is in my boat.
Nope! I have OCD so I'm over organized.

My Coast Guard plate says 550lbs max so it would sink if I were to put all my tackle in it.
I have been making strides the last few years to cull tackle but it isn't easy.

I organized my stuff years ago, nd paired down too.I take what I need for a fishing trip, which is not always that much depending on time of year. I catch more fish this way too. I like keeping it simple

Mine has said she will sell all of them for $0.50 each if I die. I have a friend that will sell them for her if something happens to me who knows what they are actually worth. Otherwise I am sure there would be some happy customers buying RI BLV's, Lucky Crafts, and Megabass Visions for that price.

I had the beginnings of a massive pile of tackle going myself, but manage to purge maybe 50% of it this year. I also really cut down on my random buying.
That being said, if you find any hairjigs or handpoured worms in your pile, shoot me a PM
Step 1 sort it out by lure function.
Step 2 label your storage boxes by lure function.
Step 3 put only the lures you use into the storage boxes, sorted out.
Step 4 put all the lures you don't use into storage boxes, sorted out.
Step 5 put the boxes you use into your boat by lure function so you can read the labels. For example my swimbaits are in the passenger side rear compartment, crankbaits in the driver side, soft plastics I use more often in the center storage, less used and terminal tackle in the passenger side front locker, rods and reels in the left front locker.
Step 6 put the boxes you don't use into storage cabinates by lure function so you can read the labels. Jigs I keep in a Albacore backpack that sits between the front seats.
You are now organize and ready to go fishing or ready to locate or sell what you don't use.
Tom
I have a ton of stuff that is very loosely organized. Thing is, I know where about everything is at, provided my wife doesn't move it somewhere, at that point it's lost forever.

Impressive amount of tackle you have. I have at least 14 Plano tackle boxes filled to capacity and a old,big plastic tackle box completely filled to capacity as well. Hoping to get more lures to add to my collection as time passes.
Mine are organized into planos and labeled by type (i.e., trickworm, large worm, finesse worm, terminal tackle, spinnerbaits, etc). I label with a sharpie on an address label and put on the edge and put them stacked flat on a shelf so that I can see the label. I have a kayak bag that holds three planos, labled top, bottom and middle. I fill these from my stored boxes according to what I want to use. I have a second travel box that is a double sided box, with a mixture of lures for guests, or my wife to use.
Fly boxes are organized by species.
I have a ton of tackle too. My interest is in tackle systems. What is a good system to manage it all. I have not found a box that can efficiently hold: crankbaits, plastics, spinnerbaits etc.

1. Man Cave: One wall with peg board for soft plastics in original bags. Another wall for rod and
reels. A third wall with shelving for Plano box storage.
2. Plano 3700 for a little bit of everything adapted for the specific season.
3. Plano 3600 for what I intend to fish on a given day.

It was organized at one point and a lot of it still is. Soft plastics are kept in their original bags and but in a tote or box by type e.g. senkos, creature baits, straight worms, etc. Unopened hard baits are stored the same as soft plastics and opened baits are stored in plano boxes. I have a system that I just need to maintain it and either buy more plano boxes or get rid of some hardbaits (which seem to be breeding on the bench).

It is called a bass boat.

I got sick of trying to figure out what plastics were in what box so I spent a rainy afternoon when the wife was out and wrote down the brand style and colors of all the baits in each box and numbered them as I went. I then put them in a table ordering by brand style and color. Then I was able to condense baits that were in multiple boxes into just one box.
Now it’s easy to find a Berkley 4” Ripple shad I’m uncle Rico and a Kalins Ron’s craw grub. Look at my list and I go to the right box the first time instead of the 10th time. This saves me a large amount of time. Same would work for bagged plastics across multiple boxes too.
Now I need to figure out if I do this with my other tackle.

The solution: Buy a couple more boats!
I’ve tried and tried to figure out a solid solution to this exact issue and have failed. I think I have finally come to the realization that you can actually have too much tackle.
I fish for multiple species as i live on the coast. Both inshore (reds, trout, flounder) and offshore blue water fishing. And then bass fishing.
I have every bit of 75+ Plano boxes, over 60 rods, 16+ feet of pegboard loaded with plastic. Boxes upon boxes of brand new unopened hardbaits. It’s sickening and a true addiction.
trying to manage this amount of stuff may not seem hard but it starts to take the fun out of tinkering with tackle when it takes you 20 minutes to find a jig box you know you have.
So any of you who have Piles of organized tackle post pics of your garage and how you people manage it.
Ive almost got to the point of wanting to go buy a small tackle bag, pick out the basics and confidence baits, and be done with the rest of it. Too many years of collecting, and I’m not even 30 yet!

We COULD provide an intervention but then we'd have to face our own demons. Wouldn't want to do that.
I’ve only been fishing seriously for this one summer so I can’t even imagine having a ton of unopened hard baits. At the same time in one summer I’ve filled 8 3600’s 2 smaller ones a small picture album for spinnerbaits and about 20 bags of plastics that are not in 3600’s so I can see how it happens.
LOL! I think there are lots of threads on tackle organization.
Yeah, I hear you, it's easy to get buried in stuff you'd LOVE to use, but... gotta mow the lawn. :))
We live in a consumer culture. And bass, being such adaptable generalist predators with a penchant for shiny things, doesn't help matters. Ray Scott, and Johnny Morris, were no fools.

Three possible solutions:
Guilty.
For someone with such little tackle compared to most of you guys and considering that I am still building up, I can't understand the complaining. If I had enough tackle to take me 20 min to find a jig I'd be more than happy. ????
Youngest daughter moved out to attend college several years ago. First thing I did was get sad and then immediately started moving tackle into her room???????? Seriously best thing was to buy totes at walmart and organize ex: topwaters, deep cranks, shallow cranks, med cranks. Soft plastics-craws,worms,frogs,flukes all labeled and put in exlarge ziplock bags. In boat everything is labebled and i just switch plano boxes and plastics depending on what lakes i ll be fishing

If you only knew how bad it can be... I've been collecting antique/vintage lures since the late 1960s and when I did an inventory for the insurance company about 30 years ago, I had 6000+. (Doesn't include lures made since 1985.) Wife thinks I'm crazy, but I told her those lures are going to be part of her retirement when I'm gone.
Here are just the hardbaits I was carrying for a spring tournament I had to let dry. As you can see I only carry the minimal amount of tackle needed.

Yep, I can relate. I’ve always flyfished so I have that and then there is the gear fishing for salmon and steelhead and now I have added bass fishing to my repitoire. Last I checked, I had 70 rods combined and pretty much a reel for each. I have a lifetime supply of flytying materials and probably enough flies that I’d last if I’d never tied another. Then bass fishing, I’ve discovered, is you can acquire a lot of stuff in a short amount of time(and I have) Good thing I’m already divorced don’t think my wife would have liked our home turning into a Tackle wharehouse.
Man do I feel your pain. Had a friend who just cleaned house and he has never been happier with a little kids tackle box and catches as many fish as anyone. Go figure.

Munkin, man that's a lot of tackle! I've been buying tackle for around 35 yrs. At one point I realized I rarely used a lot of it. Sold a little bit, gave some to son in laws, and gave away others to an older friend of my family who is on a fixed income and couldn't afford to buy a lot of tackle. In the process I paired down my own stuff. Depending on time of year. I carry much less than I used to and, catch more bass because of it. Hope you can get it sorted out.Its a good feeling when you get organized

I feel your pain. I had the exact same situation. I tried everything and nothing worked. Never had what I needed, stuff lost and turn up weeks later. But finally, I figured it out.
1) Back to Plano boxes again.
2) a box for each type of lures.
3) Thin planos for all soft plastics (only carry about 5 of each color) the rest are stored in more planos at home.
4) All planos labeled
5) Planos for each species
So, I have about 50 planos loaded, I take what im using by species and season.
My bass planos are in my boat but only what im using for that season.
My pike/musky stuff is in planos.
My trout stuff is in planos but stored in large HDX containers
My lake trout/salmon stuff is in planos and in large HDX containers.
My fly stuff is in small planos in HDX containers.
Waders and boots are in another HDX container.
I have a water proof boat bag with pliers, sun screen, bug spray, water, granola bars, scales, binoc's, etc.
I only have enough tackle for a day, the rest is kept at home in an old amour in planos.
Also, I keep worm hooks and weights in with my worms in the plano, soft jerk bait hooks in the plano for soft jerk baits etc. So, when Im using plastic worms, im working out of 1 plano and not pulling out 3 (worm, hooks, and one for weights. I hate the bags that the plastic come in cause you cant see what your looking for quickly and they take up a lot of space.
I have a resovior close to me that has smb, lmb, rainbow trout, lake trout, and landlocked salmon. No boats, all shore fishing, wading is only allowed in tributaries. I got for lakers, pull that HDX out and im off. Bite slows I move to the river and try for rainbows, pull that HDX. Then, move to the other river and chase the salmon run in the fall. Grab that HDX.
And, Im wheeling about 20 different rods for my antics.
You can send all the stuff to me. Problem solved.
I have a not enough tackle problem!
