Strike King Crankbaits-VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2024

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

So today Im going through my Plano boxes and I discover something that REALLY ticks me off.

All my SK Sexy Shad Redeye Shad Baits and a SK Series 6 have series flaws in them.

Flaws, well I really dont know how else to put it.

They were taken out of the package, and put in the Plano box. Havent touched em since.I normally dont fish crankbaits, but bring em along "just in case"

The Redeye Shad baits have gotten "Pregnant" and totally swelled up and distorted. The series 6 Crank is starting to split at the seam.

I havent even had a chance to use these yet,Theyve NEVER been tied on and have NEVER been in the water.Just on the boat,in the Plano boxes

Is this an issue I can pitch to Strike King with hope of a successful resolution?? At almost $5 per bait id expect better.

The Excalibur Rattle Baits and Strike King Diamond Shad baits I had in the same box didnt have anything like this occur and are perfectly fine.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? If this happened to any of you all,how would you all handle it?

fishing user avatarMarc David reply :

I don't fish Strike King hardbaits for that reason, poor quality. My main issue was every single one I bought had to be tuned. 90% of my crankbait fishing is done using Lucky Craft or Xcalibur now.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

That swelling on those red eyes is pretty awesome.  I've never seen that before.

Tie one on and see how it fishes... ;D

fishing user avatarBlue Streak reply :

If you left that box in the sun they will swell up and bust before others will

fishing user avatarerau618 reply :

Strike King customer service is actually really good.  I had a problem with a Strike King Spinnerbait and sent them an e-mail.  Chris Brown at Strike King responded the same day and took care of the situation.  They sent me 3 new spinnerbaits and a hat.  I would contact them and attach the pictures.  They should take care of this issue.

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

Fish those fat Red Eyes.  See how they do.  That may become the next lure-mod fad.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

I went ahead and emailed them a letter:

To whom it may concern,

I have purchased a few of Strike Kings crankbaits, and although I have never used them,I cannot say im happy with these baits. After Purchase,I took them out of the package and put them in Plano organizer boxes. Ive never tied them on or fished them, theyve never seen water.

Theyve been in the organizer for about 6 months. I looked at them today and one your series 6 Crankbaits is starting to split at the seams, and your Sexy Shad Red Eye baits have swelled up and distorted. At $5 a bait,I would expect a better, more durable bait. My SK Diamond Shad baits and Excalibur Rattle baits were in the same Plano Organizer and are absolutely fine,no swelling, splitting or distortion.

Pictures of the baits in question are enclosed. Is there some sort of resolution we can reach in this issue.

  Thank You,

   Chris XXXX

   (520)249-XXXX

Hopefully that will be enough to resolve the issue. Lesson learned,SK Cranks arent very durable.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

WOW,i just heard back from Chris Brown from Strike King:

Chris, Let us know an address and we will replace.

CB

Thats quick service, only took about an hour. WOW!!!

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

Can't beat that.  Gotta love when a company has solid customer service like that.  It's a shame that more companies aren't that easy to deal with.

fishing user avatarFishinTN reply :

I had a similar deal with luckycraft. Had some baits tear up pretty fast, e-mailed them and they sent some new baits right away. Very happy with luckycraft.

I like certain strike king baits also mostly red eye shads, but have had no problems. Except for one that recently started to rust a little on the rings. Only that one has done that.

fishing user avatarNateFollmer reply :

That's strange! Mine are always in my Plano boxes and sit in my car (I shouldn't do that ha). Maybe I should go look at my cranks... I just threw my sexy shad yesterday but it looked fine (I didn't look for any splitting like that though).

That's some good CS there though! SK gets +1 in my book ;)

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

I've used their cranks for years and have never had anything like that occur. They'll make it right for you.

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

That's great customer service there. Another company with fantastic customer service is Bomber. Last year I had some Balsa B's that had the paint peeling off. When I contacted the company, they asked for a shipping address and, for my trouble they gave me two of each bait.

fishing user avatarflippin and pitchin reply :

There has to be a reason for the distortion and I would say it get's mighty hot in Arizona.  I bet Chris Brown would like to know the circumstances so as to factor that into further product development.  That was like a hot dog in a microwave. ;)

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

The Red Eyes remind me of a pot bellied rattlebait made by Rebel some years ago.

I had a similar problem with a Crankbait that didn't rattle. Sent email and described problem. Chris said to try rapping it on a tabletop to shake the rattle free. It worked plus they sent 3 free baits + a hat.

C.S. second to none IMO.

fishing user avatarIndiana Bass1 reply :

I have the same problem with a series 3 splitting down the back. Guess I 'll throw it away and chaulk it up as a lesson learned.

Why ? They'll correct the problem for you , all you have to do is get in contact with them.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

I was concerned that I would get a big runaround with SK,but I took a shot, emailed em about the issue and sent pics. No questions asked, you saw their response. Top notch service.

I also have some Cotton Cordell Spots that have a distortion /denting issue.I wrote them as well. I got an email back and they want me to send them the lures  in question for inspection(on my dime) and they would gladly replace them.

A few minutes later I got an email from the same guy that said they will look into "maybe" replacing these baits.

First Email:

Hello chris, I have never heard of this happening before, if you will send these baits to us for inspection I will be gladly to replace them.

Second Email:

If you would send these back to us we will look at maybe replacing these. I have never seen this happen before..Thank you

So im on the fence with the Pradco lineup. Do I send them back and look at "Possibly" having these replaced? If they choose not to replace them, then im out postage on sending the baits in and im sure they would keep the baits.

fishing user avatarlavbasser reply :

I would send them back. I am pretty sure they would return them regardless. I like to know how manufacturers handle returns or exchanges in these circumstances.

I also think they should throw in an extra bait or something. Several weeks ago I rec'd a split Little John MD. I sent it to Spro. It was still in the original packaging. I wrote a note and did everything they asked. I got my replacement MD 3-4 weeks later. However, they only replaced the bait. No reimbursement for shipping or time spent going to the post office and writing a note.

fishing user avatarDock Master reply :

Wow that is good customer service!!!

BTW, I would fish that pregnant Red Eye Shad and see how it did!!

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Im keeping all the baits that are affected and will most likely fish em just for grins. Im not a crankbait fisherman, more of a soft plastics type,so maybe if I fish these cranks and catch something, ill be more inclined to throw cranks more often.

fishing user avatarCrowcommander reply :

The baits I saw seem to be distorted by excessive heat from being in a clear tackle box. The Plano box can act as a magnifing glass when left out in the boat. This will make all plastic hard baits do this including Zara spooks,Chug bugs,Rattletraps, etc. Thank goodness for an understanding customer service dept. I learned this the hard way on a 100+ degree day on Millwood Lake in SW Ark.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

Dude, what have you been feeding your crankbaits???

You should have sent at least a couple of them back... they definitely would have taken care of you. If not, they would do so knowing they would lose you as a customer and assume you're going to tell everyone you know about the poor customer service.

fishing user avatarPaul Roberts reply :

You're in AZ! Keep that box outta the sun. If that doesn't work, and you have to keep those SK baits in a cooler, then it's time to buy some other brand CBs.

According to the SK Rep,They are gonna take care of me,no questions asked. The Cordells,Ill have to send em in and see the response I get. Im gonna send in my Cordell spots on the 1st of the month.

fishing user avatarswimbait reply :

I had this exact issue a year or two ago. The baits had never been out of my garage and never saw direct sunlight. I store hundreds if not over a thousand baits and never had an issue with any of them except for the SKs. That said, when I contacted Chris at SK he took good care of me and replaced all baits. If you like them I wouldn't hesitate to keep buying and throwing them if they go bad they will replace them. Great customer service. ;)

If those eyes were yellow, i'd think that Rabble Rouser is back in business with a new bait line-up!

fishing user avatarBobP reply :

Why did it happen?  Duh!  Leave crankbaits in a box, in the boat, in the AZ sun in the middle of summer.  I'd say the fault isn't 100% Strike King's.  The bright side, now you don't have to boil those lipless baits to expand their rattle chambers, like some guys do.

fishing user avatarBlue Streak reply :

You can't leave crankbaits in those boxes in the sun because this is exactly what happens. I would suppose the Strike King people have encountered this problem a thousand times, and yet they still seem to be good enough to make their "defective" baits right.

I wish you new what you are talking about as far as this issue is concerned. I have had numerous Strike King Baits do this, still in the package having never been in the boat. They were sitting at home with all my other extra baits that have never had this problem, stored exactly the same. It is NOT a problem that happens with all their baits, just some. Strike King does stand behind and replaces all the baits this happens to so Kudos to them but this is a production or design flaw. To say otherwise is a little ignorant to the problem if it hasn't happened to you YET.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Ive got Norman,Manns,BPS XPS, and Bill Lewis crankbaits in that same box and none of those were affected at all.But the SK baits swell and distort.HMMMMM

Are all the baits plastic ?

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

The Bill lewis,Manns,AND BPS XPS Imsure are plastic. The Normans,im not so sure of.

fishing user avatarIndiana Bass1 reply :

Yes the normans are plastic also. I have hundreds of them and they are awesome, don't know why I bought a few strike kings???? For you Arizona sunshine folks, my baits swelled right in the box in the garage. And if they cant take the sunshine while in the boat I don't want them. Whats next, keep the Strike King baits on ice? LOL Might give them a tighter wiggle!! :;)

On a serious note,my buddy uses my hand poured jig trailers and he claims the fish like em better if he keeps them in a cooler! Hard to argue with him when he won over $16,000 fishin' em' this way Go figure.

It has happened to me and it was because I left the box in the sun. I knew it was my fault and I did not ask Strike King to cover my ignorant butt. I have dozens of Strike King cranks and this was the only time I ever had a problem.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Chris Brown from Strike King came through with flying colors!!

I got a box from Fed Ex today and I got the replacement Red Eyes in Sexy Shad(3 each) and the Series 6 in Sexy Shad. He also threw in 2 more series 6 in Sexy Shad,A hat and a 2011 Catalog.

Chris Brown made everything A-OK.

Ive been following the Strike King Posts on Facebook, and it seems that Chris Brown has been out of town covering the latest tourney,as he is the one that was posting the updates from the event.

Im a happy camper once again. I sent my distorted Rattle Spots to Pradco/Cotton Cordell as they requested...Lets see if they come through with the same kind of service!!

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Thanks RW I was just about to edit that but ya beat me to it.

fishing user avatarJDK. reply :

so how long did it take i have been waiting almost 3 weeks now for the replacement i was told i would be sent for the same issue

good to see they came through im hoping my package is on the way

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

I sent the initial email to them on the 18th of July

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Im pretty impressed, just got a call from the guy over at Cotton Cordell. Says hes gonna honor the fact that I paid the money for the baits and they didnt hold up. Hes putting replacements in the mail as we speak.Gave me heads up on some sales over at thier website, and just had an overall nice conversation with a very pleasant individual. His name is Stephen Biggerstaff for those of you with issues with the Pradco/Lurenet line of baits.

fishing user avatarJDK. reply :

i had one messed up he sent me two replacements and a strike king catalog.. said i was supposed to get a hat but it was on back order so who knows if i will get that.. i was just happy getting my lures replaced..Strike King is A Ok in my book.. lures came yesterday.. i also emailed around the same time you did

fishing user avatarbrushhoggin reply :

paul beat me to it, your in arizona man, keep your cranks in a cooler. i wouldnt want to replace them if i worked for strike king. it's not defective but they are if you cook them!

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

So today the doorbell rings and its the Fed Ex guy AGAIN!!! Dropped off the same style box as earlier in the week. I open it up and its like groundhog day. Got another shipment of the same baits that Strike King sent me earlier this week. Now I have 2 catalogs, but this time they didnt include a hat...

No No No im not complaining, just really surprised. My wife could help but shake her head and exclaim "MORE!!!???"

So now what,do I contact Chris Brown and tell him he sent me a duplicate package? What would you all do?

Oh and scratch what I mentioned earlier about Cotton Cordell. The guy had me all pumped cause they were gonna replace my cranks(Take care of me)

He called back and said he spoke to a supervisor and the replacement is a no-go. Its not a flaw in their product, and that I should keep my cranks in a cooler. Never heard of such a thing, who keeps their cranks in a cooler??

So I paid for the Cordell cranks, never used em,they got screwed up by the sun,the company requests I return them (on my dime) and then they get me all satisfied with their replacement policy.THEN they shoot it down and tell me their not gonna replace em. In my mind thats not good business ethic. If you tell someone your gonna do it,you should follow through, not renege on your word. I know he has a supervisor to answer to,but he really should have passed th issue in front of his supervisor prior to making what I thought was the final call on replacement of these baits.

What an emotional roller coaster. Based on the way certain lures respond when left in the sun,I do know which ones will hold up and which ones wont. No more Cotton Cordell for me. Im in Arizona and Sun is just not something you can get away from here. I have a Jon Boat and the boat doesnt have storage compartments I can use to shade the baits from the sun. Heres the scenario played out with Cotton Cordell:

I buy the 5 Cotton Cordell baits for lets say $2.50 each = $12.50

I never use them and they warp in the sun.

I send an email to the company mentioning the issue I am having, they ask me to send the baits back to them on my dime= $5.30

Cotton Cordell calls me says they will replace the baits "no problem". Figure all is well

I get another call saying after further discussion with a supervisor, the baits wont be replaced, but offers to send the baits back to me,because the hooks might be of value to me. I agree to have the baits returned.

Cotton Cordell calls back a few seconds later and asks if I would be interested in a decal. So for all this I get a stinking decal??

So im out almost $20 and all I have to show for it is gonna be a decal??

Strike King has made up where Cotton Cordell failed!!

fishing user avatartriglet reply :

of course you send them back.  If they were nice enough to replace a product even though it wasnt their fault.  maybe im reading it wrong but please tell me u arent considering cheating them out of a box of crankbaits???  my conscience wouldnt allow me to do it!!....  so i would send them back... only way i would keep them would be if i talked to them and they said for me to keep them!!  then i would be like  ;D

You're the one looking in the mirror. Do you really want to know what we think?  Obviously by you stating that "strike king made up for" the other company, you are already likely to keep them for your misguided perception of being wronged by Cotton Cordell.

Keeping them is wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, they all seem to be your fault.

I guess that's what you get when you ask what people think...

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Ya know your right. I called the number on the invoice for Strike King to see if I could speak to Chris Brown Personally. The operator said he wasnt in and suggested I try back next week.

So I emailed him and let him know that I received a duplicate package in the mail. I also posed the question of what he would like me to do with it. If he is generous and suggests keeping it,Ill have no trouble with that, but should he say he needs to have the items back to keep his records/inventory straight then by all means ill do the the stand up thing and send them back. Chris Brown did a stand up thing by making things right, who am I not to do the same thing for him?

fishing user avatarJDK. reply :

he will tell you to keep it.. it will cost more for them to have it shipped back then its worth!.. but you did the right thing by asking..

Chris Brown seems to know what customer service is about

fishing user avatarMFBAB reply :

I had an issue w/ some Redeyes a while back, the first couple of batches they made had issues with the internal weights getting stuck together and making the bait run on its side.  I was hearing nothing but good things about the Redeye and wondered why I couldn't get it to run correctly and then I heard a KVD interview that described the exact problem I was having.  I contacted Chris Brown and he replaced the baits for me no questions asked, I've had great luck using them since then also:)

Spot on...least ask..be honest and don't get mad if he asks you to return them.I however don't think he will ask you to return them(making you pay shipping charges)...but you did the right thing by emailing them asking what you need to do.

Chris Brown does seem to know what customer service is and guys like me will remember this and make purchases just because of their customer services to others.I guess it's my thing..I like customer services who back their products up to keep their customers happy like you. That tells a lot about a company sometimes.

fishing user avatar1234567 reply :

Goodto hear that you had great customer service from strike king.  I had issues with a couple king shads, emailed them a few weeks ago and still waiting to hear at least a reply from them.  The king shads kept breaking at the hinge.  At $20 plus a bait, that's ridiculous if you ask me!

fishing user avatarDBatey reply :

I have a friend who had a box of baits do this and many were lucky craft and megabass too, its not limited to the lower priced brands, this is just a result of the air inside the lure expanding when it gets too hot and the plastic body being softened by the heat creating a perfect storm.

Kudos to strike king for taking care of you, but we all need to be aware this can happen and try to keep our boxes in the shade or cool by other means.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Well I gave the Pregnant Redeye Shad a try yesterday and it had ZERO action. Stayed up on top and just spiraled around on the surface wrecklessly. So im gonna remove the split rings and hooks and toss the rest as I now have the replacements that were sent by Chris Brown.

Speaking of replacements,if you remember earlier I mentioned I got a duplicate package shipped by Fed Ex. I called Strike King on Monday to request to speak to Chris concerning this duplicate package of baits, and all I got was a voicemail box,so I left him a message and asked that he call me back. I also emailed him and havent heard back...So does this mean I keep the duplicate baits or continue trying to contacting him to do the right thing, and thats to return these extras?

How long should I wait for Chris To respond before I just give up and consider them mine?

I had a similar issue where I had several hooks break on football jigs.  Chris replied later that evening.  A few days later (today), I got a FedEx at the house replacing everything that broke.  Tossed in a hat and a catalog as well.  Fantastic customer service.  Thats the first time I've ever had a problem with one of their products, and it was very quickly fixed.  Couldn't ask for it to have been handled any better.
