What is your favorite Rapala Lure?
X-rap for the colder months of the year, and the Skitter-pop for the warmer months.
Love them all. I'm a big crankbait fanatic in general. Storm cranks probably are my second favorite. I have way to many cranks that I never even use but keep buying more.
The rapala glass shad works well when you want it to stay suspending.

rapala has too many good lures to have only one favorite, the dts, x raps, shad raps, rattlin, and husky jerks are my favorites
i would have to say the shad raps and the husky jerks, i also like the skitter walk.
X-Rap # 8 in Hot Steel and White ( the latest great for Sea Trout and Mackarel too ).
DT 6 in different colors
Lately the jerkbait bite has been really good, so I have to go with the X-Rap.
I'm a fan of all of the DT crankbaits. They are great quality, and are reasonably priced.
If I had to pick one then I would take a DT-10 in bluegill
Although I am developing an affinity for the DT series, I still think the original floater is my favorite. Good fishing thread. JMHO
Ronnie
QuoteMy favorite would be the X rap along with the shad rap, and legendary original floater
You know what, it would be easier to list the rapalas I don't like.
I love all three you mentioned (Original Floater, Shad Rap & X-Rap) plus the DT cranks and Husky Jerks.
Roger
I don't have any one favorite but if I have to choose one it would be the original Shad Rap it catches everything and I mean everything. 8-)
Chow
X-rap in any color
QuoteI'm a fan of all of the DT crankbaits. They are great quality, and are reasonably priced.
Ditto.
X-rap would be my choice #2, and lipless rattling rapala #3, but as other people said, there are probably no rapalas that I don't have at least some affinity to...

I'll add my vote for the SkitterPop. I don't have any of their cb's, but do have a couple of the original floaters and an X-rap.
I'VE PROBABLY CAUGHT MORE FISH ON THE ORIGINAL SHAD RAP THAN ANY OTHER LURE PERIOD. THE X-RAPS ARE STARTING TO CLOSE THE GAP THOUGH.
MY FAVORITE LIPLESS CRANKBAIT IS THE #7 RATTLIN RAP IN RED CRAWDAD. IT'S PUT ALOT OF SMALLIES IN MY LIVEWELL.
OH WELL, AS HAS BEEN SAID, IT'S EASIER TO LIST THE ONES THAT AREN'T MY FAVORITE.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO THE BASSRESOURCE.COM FAMILY.
i fish alot of ponds, rivers, and creeks. the x-rap rules. jmo
I am not a big crankbait thrower but, as far as Rapalas go, I do like the Shad Rap on the lower Potomac in MD and the no. 10-12 jerk bait suspender in Tenn. Shad on the Upper Potomac and Susquehanna in PA for smallies. They are a blast when the fish are on them!
DT's and jointed shad raps have caught me more fish that any bait other than a senko.
My favorite is the Rapapla DT6 Silver with the sure set hooks.
I am all for my DT crankbaits followed up by their shad raps. On a bad day when the bite is tough I can usually tie on a DT-4 or 6 in shad, bluegill, or firetiger and come up with something.
Gold Huskey Jerk/Gold X-rap for Peacocks. Firetiger Shad Rap RS/Shinner Original Floater for Largemouth.
None. I have never caught a bass on a Rapala lure before. I've used DT crankbaits, Rattlin' Rapalas, and hard jerkbaits and can't catch bass on them. Until I do, I don't like to use Rapala lures and they are definitely not on my list of confidence lures.
# 9 And # 11 Original Floaters silver Blak Back I cant even count the numbers of Bass I have caught with these Closley follwed by the same size silver or gold and black back Floating Jointed Rapalas
and the Dts in Bluegill these are among my all time favorite baits I LOVE RAPALA LURES
I can't remember a time when I didn't have at least several rapala's in my tackle box. he f11 floater is the standard minnow bait against which all others are measured.
I stopped using rapala's for awhile, mostly because their were so many new fun lures to try. But he DT series is finding it's way into my tackle box in increasing numbers. Truly a fine crankbait regardless of cost.
X-RAP XR-10
any crank in the DT series is a hot lure
My favorite rapala lure is a jointed shad rap in silver shad.
I havent ran into a Rapala lure that doesnt work. The only ones I care to have a good selection of though in my tacklebox are my DT cranks and the X-Raps (XR-8/10)
The X-rap...it's the only Rapala I consistenly use. The bleeding shad color scored me a win in a club tournament last year during tough, post cold front conditions. That day gained me imeasurable confidence in that bait.
Was always a fan of the original floating but, have really taken a liking to the DT4s, 6s, and 8's
I fish several Rapalas: original floater, Countdown, Husky Jerk and my favorite, the X-Rap.
There is no bad Rapala. They make an extremly effective lure for nearly any situation an angler could be faced with. But If I had to pick a favorite it would be J-9 black and silver Rapala. I caught most of my first fish on this lure as a kid. And I still catch a mess of them today.
To put it bluntly, I don't trust any other brand of crankbaits as I do Rapala.
At this point in time (and for the last few seasons) my favorite has been the husky jerk. But I have a box full of original floaters, shallow and deep shad raps and they have all produced well. I have some DT's and some skitter pop's......have not really used the DT's much yet, the skitter pop is now one of my favorite poppers. I will try some x-rap's next season. One rapala bait I don't use or have is the Rattling Rap.....Rat-L-Traps have been so good to me I have not tried them yet.
Love the thread. Since I'm a newbie, I was wondering how you're supposed to fish the X-Rap. Do you simply cast and retrieve? Walk the dog?
Any help will be appreciated.

Mann's Baby 1 Minus, This is a Redfish killer. Opps, you were talking about freshwater.....
Oh well, if any of you guys get to the South Louisana Marshes try this one. It is awesome.
Firetiger fat rap #5. I have caught more bass on this crank than any other.
Every Rapala lure that I've ever used caught bass. A favorite would be impossible to choose, but I've caught the most on the Original Floaters, Shad Raps, and Husky Jerks.
my favorites are the deep down rattlin' fat raps, skitter pops, skitter walks, tail dancers, fat raps'rattlin rapalas, and the dt crankbaits.
all of them iv never got one put of the package that didnt work properly ;D
Orignal floater in black and silver or black and gold !!!!! They were and have been very successful bait for me... I have yet to catch any on the DT's yet but I have purchased and use a lot of them recently!!!
Eric
Risto Raps are great baits. Too bad they have been discontinued. :'(
I WISH RAPALA WOULD BRING BACK SOME OF THE DISCONTINUED LURES.
HJ-14 in rainbow trout. Never tried one for bass though.
i really like the DT10 great bait
the dt is my favorit eventhough I love all of those lures.
Before this last year I would have said either the original floater or the Shad-Rap. Now I have to add the X-Rap to the mix. I can't really pick one over the other, but those the top three for me. Just started, at the end of last year, with the DT series. I haven't used them enough to say for sure, but it looks like they will be among my favorites.
Gotta agree with texasbass1, the Risto was a great bait. I have a handful left. Wish they'd bring that one out of retirement.
Cheers,
GK
This is a great thread.
I have caught the most fish on the original floater black and silver but that is because I grew up fishing ponds and streams. However the last few years the x-rap and DT series has produced some big bass and some large amounts as well. I am a jerk bait addict I would throw a jerkbait all day every day if I could so I would have to go with the X-rap right now. I wish they made a floater that was a little heavier. The original is light and can be a pain to cast if it is windy.
I've caught more bass on the old balsa Fat Rap (FR-7, shad color) than any other crank. Problem is, they don't make them any more and the only one I have left is one that my dad gave to me a long time ago. I don't want to lose it, so I don't use it any more......it has a ton of bite marks on it!
I like the original floaters in Black/Silver or Blue/Silver. For subsurface I like the DT minnows, they allow you to select a fishing depth.
There are just so many good Rapala baits.I love the Shad Rap,the DT series, the X-Rap.I would have to say that I've caught more bass on a Rapala Original floating minnow in silver w/ black back than any other hard bait that I've ever used.
