Anybody else have lure they like to use because it seems like it should catch fish? It appears to have everything, good finish, great action, but it just doesn't produce.
The Yo-Zuri suspending jerkbait is that for me. I find myself tying it on because it looks like it should catch fish but I've actually caught very few on one. But it looks too good in the water to put in the deep recesses of my tackle box.
Here lately it has been everything in my tackle boxes...I can't get them to hit anything. Mainly the lipless crankbait...I had two good hits on it htis weekend, and I fished it for about 6 hours in total, never had one take the bait though... :'(
The River2Sea Crystal Buzz Buzzbait.
I like the flat design that helps the bait to pop to the surface quickly and allows for a slower retrieve. I like the hand tied silicone skirt, the premium long shank Big Bite hook and I especially like the dual counter-rotating blades.
But despite my best efforts this bait has not produced.
On the same days and from the same spots, a 99 cent Wal-Mart buzzbait takes fish. WHY ?

That's a nice looking buzzbait.
You should send it to me to see if I can catch some with it.

Rick Clunn LC wakebait. Looks great, hasn't caught a thing. I'm sure it's just me so I'll be throwing it again all summer.
Rage Tail Craw...

wow really, last year we tore them up with the summer craw color.
This year I have yet to catch a bass on any thing other then a fluke.

That is the exact same color I used. I wore out an entire pack without so much as a nibble. T rigged w/ 1/8oz weight on a 4/0 EWG gammy.
Anything with the word "jig" in it. I like using jigs, but I swear me and jigs just don't mix. I've caught one fish on a jig. One of these days I need to try a different lake and toss a jig around and see what happens.

There are times and water where one particular color is not suited for our style or choice of presentation. Normally, I would use Summer Craw as a Jig Trailer for flippin or swim jig applications since a quicker motion is often needed to create the reaction strike. And this isn't to say that it doesn't work as is flipped, Tx or C rigged because many folks and lakes "have to have it".
IMO, darker colors like Green Pumpkin, Watermelon/Red, California Craw and Black'n'Blue flake are more appropriate for those presentations. I hold to the theory that with Light and Bright, move it quicker and w/darker colors you can slow'em down.
Hope that helps

If it doesn't work for me,it doesn't make my list of "favorites".

We rig ours weightless with a #4/0 gammy hook.
throw it out and let is sink about 10 secs... then twitch twitch, let it sink... etc...
The bass are killing it. most of the time as soon as it hits the water they tag it. it falls horizontal like a senko or a stick bait and it seems to work.
I have also fished it weightless and topwater. chunk it and reel it with a high speed reel and caught some nice fish.
I have tried the space monkey with no luck at all... idk why.
The Doug Hannon snake.........................

Oh man... don't know what I was thinking when I bought these.
I am kinda in the same boat if it don't work for me after a fair shake it gets donated. The original Doug Hannon foam head snake bait...never bought the new one after the great success of the old one...I don't want to. Soft foam weedless jitterbug looks great never got a bite on it. (don't remember who made it)
Trying to figure out how a lure that does not produce could be a favorite.
You shouldn't have any kind of favorite. Lures are nothing but a tool. Just as a screw driver is set for a specific job, a lure is set to do a specific job.
You'll catch more fish if you quit playing favorites.
Rapala x-rap
It might be the color i am using but i cannot get a hit to save my life on this bait
Favorite lure that doesn't work ????????? That's funny.

yeah, I here you. Seems to be the case for me too.

the way my tackle box is set up, if I don't catch fish on a bait, it doesn't go in the box. Everything in my box I have caught tons of fish on. I don't try to force any baits that don't work for me, especially when I have baits that I know i'll catch fish on.
shaky head with a finesse worm.
it looks like it would be sooo delicious for bass but i haven't caught a thing on one.
I can't catch fish on a spinnerbait this year.
jerkbaits... I just cant catch a bass with them.
On Toledo Bend, it is a white chatterbait.. I catch so much on that thing back in GA...

Count it 4! Lol. But my fav to throw when I'm hitting nothing are a couple of huge, ugly spinners I have. They're black/white and definitely scary. If I were a fish and it was headed for me, I'd run like hell (which is what happens) but I love watching them in the water.
I got a super shard rap in bluegill thats really letting me down. Im sure when the water really warms up it will start to produce.
Haven't had a strike on the Spro BBZ-1.

Excellent looking bait in and out of the water. I can catch them on a sexy swimmer though. :
Side by side, double bladed buzzbaits. Maybe the waters are too clear around here for such a noisy buzzer.
What's funny is..nada on the dirty shad, but have got 2 on the regular shad..
QuoteHaven't had a strike on the Spro BBZ-1.
Hollow body frogs for me.

Amen Brother.
Can't believe you guys have had no luck on the Spro BBZ shad! I absolutely "kill" em on the floater!
Despite my lack of success I still would like to get one of them in a floater. I got the slow sink only which isn't my cup of tea in the first place.
Deep diving crankbaits. Honestly it's a technique issue rather then the lure. I see people deep cranking & catching a ton of fish so I throw on my DD22 & start chunking but come up with nothing. I'm getting better & had decent success during the pre spawn this year but I still look at my deep divers & think to myself "why don't you catch more fish". In due time, in due time.
QuoteQuoteHere lately it has been everything in my tackle boxesI know what you mean. This has just been a terrible year for me.
Me, too
I have a few that look like they would catch a ton of bass but not the case. I have some that didn't produce fish before, now I found out that they only work in certain conditions in my area. Most of my bait tends to be something simple or something I homemade and rigged up, which will catch more fish for me . Here is my rather large list of no luck baits, granted some of these I've recently adopted and its been a slow year for fishing.
Deep divers: I have no luck with these (more apparently no skill I suppose).
Large Spinners I' catch a few fish on small spinners but not large ones.
Buzzbait:With buzz baits I've never had susses expect once, a spawning bass wouldn't take my bait so I kept rammming it in the side till it got ticked off .
Large Jigs: Catch many fish on small jigs but not big ones.
Swimbaits: No luck with these, really they look like a bass would love them. I hope the BBZ-1 changes that.
Flukes: I've used these 2 years with little success after many poeple told me they are the best for bass, however a few weeks ago it produced a 1 Ib and 2 Ib Fish were nothing else would so we will see how it goes in the future.
GYCB Senko, or any of his products to be exact
Every spinner I own
Huddlestons and deep diving cranks. If it's a crank that dives deeper than 12' I will not catch anything. I can catch them on Bandit 300's and baits like that, just not the big deep divers. It's weird and a little frustrating.
QuoteAnything with the word "jig" in it. I like using jigs, but I swear me and jigs just don't mix. I've caught one fish on a jig. One of these days I need to try a different lake and toss a jig around and see what happens.
That's me to a T. My jig collection is just that.... a collection.
My other no catch(actually few catch) bait is the Booyah Boogee. When I first got them, I think I dreamed that they caught fish. I have not caught anything on them in over a year.
Had to take back what I said about Large Jigs, I've had fair success with Large Tube Jigs (lot of success on small tube jigs).
Sebile Magic Swimmer > this thing looks so good in the water but I haven't even had a follower in 2 years.
Like others said this year has been slow and only finesse baits have worked this summer.

I would not apply the term "favorite" to a lure that doesn 't work, lures that I like ( not favorites because that 's a term the lure has to earn ) I have several that fall in the category: does not work, however to be honest, I haven 't given them the opportunity to show their potential.
One lure that doesn 't work for me are buzzbaits, fortunately I only have a couple of those and really, it doesn 't take my sleep away.
The only lure that doesn't work for me is a empty hook, I tried to dead stick -it and still nothing, but as soon as I put a plastic bait on it, game on.I've caught bass on Sexy Swimmers and a french fry in tequila color, and a blue and chartreuse Dt10 Swimmer I've been throwing in 2-6ft of water and the fry as well.Dt's been in open water at school-in fish. And yes I said School-in Fish, crazy and unheard of. Good luck

Funny i've literally caught blue gills before just dead sticking a standard live bait hook. I think its because the hook is gold but idk.

Me too. I think I caught a fish on a jig sometime in the 1990's. Granted, I haven't tried them too often since then, because I get nothing and would rather fish something that works for me and I have confidence in.
I have been trying to develop a better all-around game this year, so I have been trying again. Still nothing. Probably going to stick more with what I know and what works for me.
They aren't favortites by any means but Rapala X-rap, Spro BBZ Shad, flukes, and rage tail thumper (had one bite and it tore the tail off)
