Favorite Hollow Body Frog? 2024

fishing user avatarMatt Duprau reply :

What hollow body frog is your #1 choice on the water?

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i like the spro bronzeye, but for the price and availability, the booyah pad crasher is hard to beat.

fishing user avatarSmelter96 reply :

The lunker frog, not the pocket or combat. Also like the Booyah pad crashers

fishing user avatarlakeannaangler reply :

My favorite frog is also the booyah pad crasher.

fishing user avatargardnerjigman reply :

Booyah poppin pad crasher. Best of both worlds

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

Booyah Pad Crasher. I also still like the original SnagProof and Scum Frogs but they're a little too light. They call for spinning tackle, IMO. But that's OK for a small pond.

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Spro Bronzeye all the way

fishing user avatarScarborough817 reply :

river 2 sea bully wa II

fishing user avatarETX92 reply :

For the money I think the Pad Crasher is hard to beat. I also like the Bronzeye frog.

The H20 frogs from academy are cheap and look ok but the hooks were dull, they take on water and will not walk. I was not impressed.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

My favorite hollow bodied frog is actually a mouse.  The Live Target Field Mouse gets my vote.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

H2O Xpress® 5 1/2" ;)

fishing user avatarTyF reply :

Live target all day. One of the only fishing products I am truly passionate about and wont buy anything else. Tried the spro poppin frog one night and missed 7 strikes in a row. they are really stiff in my opinion (not sure if that's what caused the misses or it was just me) but as soon I switched back to the live target I didn't miss another fish.

second choice would be booyah if money is an issue.

fishing user avatarAnotherSenkoQuestion reply :

Terminator Walking Frog probably easiest frog I've ever walked. Booyah was my second go-to since they are affordable.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

LiveTarget HB frogs.

The little, seldom talked about and under appreciated Scum Frog.

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

My FAVORITE is the kicker frog.  Nothing else even comes close.

My favorite AFFORDABLE frog is the Kopper's Live Target.  They've got it all at a reasonable price and I really like them.

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

Live target is my favorite hollow body lure. I have caught many bass up to + 9 pounds down here from the shore on this lure.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Booyah popping pad crasher.

fishing user avatarEric Peterson reply :

Absolutely 100% Snagproof Ish's Phat Frog. It is soft, good hooks, it walks with ease and my favorite, it's unsinkable. Literally. The hooks are in a seperate tube then the hollow body so there is nowhere for water to get in. At 9-10 bucks a frog it's everything I want.

fishing user avatardsidle61 reply :

Booyah Popping Pad Crasher.  Cant tell you how many fish ive pulled in on these.  Lots of durability too, will even last through a few Pike teeth.

Great suggestions. A few frogs that I have yet to try out, time to invest in a few more! Personally in my arsenal I carry Spro Bronzeyes & Koppers Live Targets!

My favorite frog is livetarget, but favorite hollow body is the brown field mouse or the sunfish. Both are stupid easy to walk and hook up amazing. The mouse has longer hooks that just work better for me and I love to throw it around timber.

Breezy or windy day optimum furbit - absolutely deadly - calm days any of the others work for me

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

I like the Spro Bronzeyes the best, but haven't branched out much with other brands.

I don't often buy hollow body frogs, but when I do, it's a Livetarget.

That or whatever MTB sends me lol.

I like snag proof frogzilla i take the rubber legs off and add rubber skirt legs to make it even bigger and and more plastic beads for more sound as well add small suction cups to the eyelet if i want it a poppin frog. Havent tried manns goliath frog yet but will do if live target made a magnum size hollow body frog that would be my go to

Heard Jacob Wheeler designed a terminator popping frog too.. looks sweet..

fishing user avatarGoRavens reply :

I'm a fan of my bully wa's. Haven't tried live target though. I can walk my pad crashers but not as easily as my bully wa or bully wa 2.

fishing user avatarMDbassin reply :

River 2 Sea spittin wa..... All the spros I've used fill with water easier/faster then all the others

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

Here's a least fav: The frog that has realistic looking legs. Y'all know the one whose name won't show up on this site. I've been told by a few people to give it another try before I condemn it. I tried it again last night. Bites are not the problem with this bait.I got 3 bites on it and no hookups. And it lost a leg! It was waterlogged on the second cast. Looking online, I see the price on them has come down quite a bit since I overpaid for mine. I tied on the Pad Crasher and immediately started catching those fish and continued to catch them until dark.

x2 and sometimes it's almost impossible keeping the toothy ones of em

Best frog: Snag Proof Ish's Phat Frog.

Best value: Booyah Pad Crasher.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

Scumfrog followed by Pad Crasher followed by Live Target.

If you can't get a bass to hit this in the muck..go home.

TS-1112 Natural Black and Green

I don't trim the legs, I don't modify the hooks.  I just fish the h*ll out of them.  They make a distinct *plop* when the hit the water that has caused more blow-ups than I can remember.

fishing user avatartrupp30 reply :

Booyah pad crasher

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

I started frog fishing with the original Scum Frog.  It's cheap and it works, but it's light and can be tough to cast.  I tried the Scum Frog Trophy Series Frog and have been very happy with it.  Every time I pick up one of the more expensive frogs in the tackle store, I think back on how many Scum Frogs I've lost to pike...  LOTS!  I like the lower price of the Scum Frog!

I'm curious about the other popular brands and this thread will give me some ideas on which ones to try.  Thanks to the OP for starting the thread!

Tight lines,

Bob

You won't be disappointed.

fishing user avatarMisplacedTexan99 reply :

I have fished spros since they came out and I love them but recently the booyah pad crasher has been my fancy. If the livetarget ones with a black bottom were more readily available they would probably be my go to but I can't seem to find them.

I'm curious about all you guys that talk about how well this or that frog walks.  Why are you walking these baits?  To me....(and I'm certainly no expert but am pretty darn good with a frog)...these are slop baits.  If I want to walk the dog, I pull out a Spook or Sexy Dawg

well for me, they look like a frog to you and i, but from the underside and from a fish's perspective they look like prey.  could be fish, frog, whatever.  i'll often throw them into thick cover (grass, laydown, pads, etc.) but once they get out of that mess i'll walk them back to me and catch plenty of them doing so.  this little dude wanted the spro popper on the "walk" this weekend.

Fair enough.  I notice you got a poppin frog on there.  I guess I view frogs a little different.  I'll throw a frog into anything.  The heaviest, nastiest stuff and that is pretty much only what I use them for.  When I get to the end of the slop, I'll bounce it a few times and give it a little work but then I just reel back for another cast.  I've tried walking them back but never had any luck so I stopped

Grab some super glue to revive the ones that haven't. As long as they aren't super shredded, you can get quite a bit more use out of them.

The Booyah Pad Crasher is my favorite frog. I only buy others if I can get them on sale, with the exception of a certain color Spro that I've had a lot of success on.

We make these frogs walk in the open pockets and edges of the slop.

It's like the best of both worlds: a weedless floater that walks the dog.

Exactly. We don't have vast mats of vegetation in KS. There's smaller patches with holes of various sizes between them. The advantage to a frog that walks, other than the obvious action, is the bait is moving and getting a fish's attention without moving far. If a fish strikes in an open pocket, the odds of a hookup are much higher.

And the blowups in those little open pockets are EXPLOSIVE!!!

I usually have my best luck right on the outside of lilies or in the open patches. I'll let the froggy sit there for maybe 10 seconds before I resume the retrieve. That seems to tear a bass's nerves up. They just can't allow something smaller to survive in their den. And sometimes, I'll get the bite as soon as the frog hits the water before I even retrieve.

I like the pad crashers, pretty cheap, good quality and easy to find.

fishing user avatarMokujon reply :

I don't have just 1 favorite so here are the ones I throw the most. Livetarget size 65, spro bronzeye and snag proof ish's poppin fatty. I wanted to love the lunker hunt frog but it's legs tear so easily. Only threw it less than 2 days and the legs almost ripped off.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

Pad Crasher for me; the price is right and hooks up easily.  I like the livetarget frogs too, but I can never bring myself to pay full price for anything by livetarget.

I rarely go to Dicks but they had a good deal going on, buy one get one free Livetarget Frogs and other lures

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

It's not a "frog" per se BUT in terms of the percentage of successful hookups and it's ability to glide over moss, my vote goes to the modest little Snagproof Moss Mouse.
