Did any of you get the 2011 Master Catalog yet? If not it should be out soon, I think.
I got mine last year on December 28. Should be soon...
Just as important as getting the catalog is to keep watching the BPS web-site for any clearance deals that wouldn't show in the catalog.
Got It yesterday
QuoteGot It yesterday
Notice anything new yet? More Carbonlite BC reel ratios perhaps?
If you are in a rush to see something new it will be online before their waste of trees they send out like 4 times a year.
Not yet but i disagree with the others i love all and any i get makes for good throne material
QuoteNot yet but i disagree with the others i love all and any i get makes for good throne material
so you need like 400 pages to see maybe 2 pages of new products?
QuoteQuoteGot It yesterdayNotice anything new yet? More Carbonlite BC reel ratios perhaps?
Didn't check that but noticed new Bionic Blade style. Looks more like Vendetta. Bass Pro doesn't carry the Vengence series tho. They also stop carrying Yum Zellamanders i think.
The Zellemanders are on BPS's website....http://www.basspro.com/Brand-Yum/Freshwater-Fishing-Soft-Baits-Lures/_/N-1z0xcx1Z1z11dbr/No-25 I havenot received their catalog yet, but didn't last year either... But that was taken care of : Gotta have it... And the Bass Book.... 8-)
BPS is being tight with their site this year. Normally by the middle of December they have all the new stuff posted but not this year.

I have a feeling that somethings up - perhaps more new product lines and product changes this year. The way that they're blowing out the Johnny Morris BC reel line seems to indicate that they may be introducing a new line placed above the CLs and PQ BC reels. Perhaps another split-grip rod series placed above the Carbonlites. Let's see...
How can you guys get so excited about toilet paper ?
I thought for sure we would have the first BPS basher by the 5th or 6th post on this thread - we made it all the way to the 11th... :
I haven't received mine yet either. I have received dozens of fliers over the course of the year. I must be on the list... My wife says for all they spend on material and postage, they should send me something to fish with; it wouldn't cost any more, and it would be more effective. She might be right, but I do like having reading material in my "study."

Me too! BPS has both my street address, and my PO Box, so I often get two of everything thus have one copy for the "reading room" and another for my den/office. ;D
They DO overdo it though - did we really need THREE different Christmas catalogs? Plus, were I them, I would send the Saltwater "Offshore" catalog to the states along the coasts, and not the landlocked states (although I guess the Muskie guys use some of that big tackle... : ).
They have a new Johnny Morris bait caster its now black and they say improved, also only $159
A new carbon black mag spool bait caster
All new Johnny Morris rods, Signature series $139 and Carbon Black series for $119. The signature series looks like and upgraded Carbonlite rod.
A new Enigma smart cast reel, hideous looking
Carbonlite rods now have micro guides, a couple new rods and they now list a left handed Carbonlite bait caster.
Thats all I have really sen so far.
Later,
Interesting - thanks!

Grey Wolf I suspect he knows what bashing is. He certainly knows what a thoughtful and relevant comment is. This is not a characteristic shared by all...

Hmmm - I wonder if this thread had been about receiving the new Shimano catalog, and someone had called it toilet paper, what the response would be... :
Don't fall off your box fellas.
QuoteDon't fall off your box fellas.
I didn't realize that anyone on this thread was on a soap box. A bunch of folks were having a conversation about a new catalog and someone came along and tried to take the thread down into the toilet... :-/
Lighten up fella's for the love of God.
I used to be excited for the upcoming BPS catalogs but I'm just not that impressed anymore with BPS & Cabelas. I try to buy as much from local tackle shops as I can because I believe it's important to support local business when it's practical and also D&R sports in Kalamazoo,MI is a terrific tackle shop. That said when I need to order most of biz is going to Tackle Whse, Bass Tackle Depot & Ichiban Tackle. Also I'm ordering direct for some items from Northstar Jigs, Matt's lures etc. which doesn't leave much left for BPS & Cabela's. I do order a few house brand lures from BPS like the RC cranks for example but that's been about it the last couple of years, I'm also turned off by the fact that the more you spend the more they charge for shipping and frankly their selection is no longer that impressive.
I'm not sure I get excited about the new catalogs, but it is interesting to see what they come out with every year. And, like we discussed earlier, it's nice to have a hard-copy catalog to browse when you're not on your computer.
I get baits and other stuff at TW. I get some consumables like soft plastics at WallyWorld. What I mostly get at BPS are the house-branded items, and I usually wait for the clearance or sale prices, then try to throw in a $20-off coupon or get a free shipping code. Regarding their shipping - I sure wish they would improve that for sure. Some places I order from have the weights of all items in the computer and calculate exact shipping cost - other vendors are taking advantage of the USPS flat-rate shipping boxes. However, since I live in a relatively small town, and the nearest tackle store with a good selection is over 40 miles away, the gas to get to that shop and back is almost what the BPS shipping might be. Either way (local shop or BPS order) I have to pay state sales tax.
The key to BPS shopping is to be patient and wait for the sales and clearances and then combine with a $20-off coupon or search on the net for BPS coupon codes - you occasionally will find one for free shipping. Do that, and there are deals to be had... 8-)
Goose,
Where are these $20 off coupons you keep talking about and why have I not gotten my hands on one yet lol

Well said. BTD used to have a killer catalog that they put out.
QuoteGoose,Where are these $20 off coupons you keep talking about and why have I not gotten my hands on one yet lol
I get them from BPS via snail mail and email - seems like at least 6 times a year - perhaps more. Have you ordered from BPS before or signed up for their emails?
I forgot to mention earlier but this is $20 on orders of $100 or more. On the free shipping code - search the web for Bass Pro coupons and you occasionally find free shipping or shipping discount codes, and sometimes a code for the $20 off/>$100 order.
I get the occasional coupon as well. It may have to do with dollars spent or frequency of purchases. Whatever it is, I qualify. I agree that for many items TW is a better source. I do buy many BPS store brand plastics, rods, and reels. I have one close enough that I don't have to depend on shipping. Their customer service has always been exceptional. I do like looking at all the perty pichers in the catalog. :

Later,
Hopefully they'll have some more reels in the weight class of the CL but with 7:1 gear ratios. I have had no problems at all with the CL/PQT reels this past year but it would be nice to have a higher speed.
Found this on BPS' site. Check out the lockdown ring it looks very similar to the Verdict.

I think you meant posts 4 and 6? Anyway, I took 4 & 6 more to be "green" comments expressing concerns about the excessive number of catalogs that BPS sends out each year - which I agree with. Like I said earlier - did we really need three different Christmas catalogs? ;D

Looks like BPS started updating their web site overnight to add some of the new product - but it's all labeled as Out of Stock so they're not quite ready to sell yet.
The JM carbon black and signatures rods are now listed as well as the new Bionic Blade (I'm not a fan of split grip rods but I guess there's no stopping them!). The new JM Signature BC reel doesn't seem to have any improved specs - I could be missing something but at first blush it seems it would be better to get the 2010 JM Gold at the clearance price (if one is interested in this reel series...).
Interesting stuff...maybe I'll get the catalog today when I check my PO Box. I don't really need anything - got enough rods and reels, but I could be tempted to get another CL BC reel if they go on sale sometime and I always keep an eye out on the clearances.
I don't get nearly as excited in getting the BPS catalog as I used to. Same for Cabelas. Any ordering online from my end goes to Tackle Warehouse. I make sure that I make it at least $50 for free shipping and I don't have to pay the almost 10% sales tax we have here.

Not to hurt the original posters feelings, I included him as #1.
#7 (or 6) sounds like a bash to me. :
Anyway, haven't gotten mine yet. I keep a copy at home and if I get another, I keep it at work.
Usually do most of my shopping at the Spring Classic or online but catalog is good reference.
It's time for some new reading material. The 2010 has been sitting on the back of my toilet for 11 months now.
I got one today but did not open it.If I want something I look on line.
I got mine 2 days ago but I haven't been through it yet.
Can't get it away from my wife !

I think I am the last one to get it every year!
Found my new BPS catalog in office mailbox today, December 28th.
Due to the snow in Richmond it is the first time I checked my mailbox outside the office since December 23rd.
I have not received the catalogs that are sent to my home and post office box but expect them to arrive any time.
Just hit today!
It came today!

A good bet it's made out of recycled paper, enamel stock.
Got mine. I get more upset with BPS every year. They could be sued on at least 10 knock-offs. Not just mimicking styles, blatant knock-offs... Kermy, Flick'n Shimmy, Shinny X2, Shimmy Jig Heads, Lazer Eye Shad, XPS MacShad, Shadee Shad, Stump Jumper.... Yes, I still read their magazines, and still give them business, but I have to wonder were their originality is.....

With baits, there is very little originality and lots of knock-offs. How many Senko knock-offs are there? On litigation related to knock-offs, did the original bait manufacturer patent their design? If not, ... :
Good points both. I just hate to see that blatant of knock-offs.
I've seen a few posts mentioning housebrands/knockoffs from BPS which made me remember what I had heard yesterday from the guy who cleans my reels. He needed some parts for a Browning reel he was working on and called Zebco who then directed him to BPS, saying BPS just bought Browning. I just thought that was interesting.
Got it today.

Got mine.........must say it is not as good as it was before Al Gore invented the Internet. But its still nice to have while clearing my mind......... A laptop is too heavy and puts my legs to sleep...... Maybe I should just get an iPad.
i got mine about a week ago,,,i did notice that the fishing section was rather weak. sure it shows the newer items as well as the old but i was just hoping for a lot more pages of fishing.
i know its called a master which has everything but a freshwater fishing catalog with the same amount of pages would be SPECTACULAR!!!!
there is always the internet, but thats boring!!

I don't think thats a recent development, bass pro has been the link to the fishing "dept" for years on the site.
