What baits and / or techniques have you gotten away from for whatever reason ?
I barely used stick worms at all this year. Or any kind of worm for that matter. I worked on learning new baits this season with some success. I didn't plan on it, it just kind of happened which in my case is not a bad thing as I depended too heavily on them in the past.
the simple johnson spoon....
had one for over 10 years, and maybe tried it twice.
.....its quite the dust collector
There is no better bait than a Johnson spoon with a Fat Albert on the back for grass and pads. 8-)

.....maybe i'll have to give it a chance in the future...
Spinnerbaits. I don't think I've fished any at all this year.
Spoons lol. They've migrated to that "why do I still carry these" box. Also chatterbait. I'm not sure I've ever used it.
Everything that isn't a 10" worm and a flippin' stick, LOL!!! Cranks and spinnerbaits are my biggest dust collectors!

My sentiments precisely, to which I might add, especially bass over 6 pounds
My "Dust Collectors" change every year, but among this year's neglected lures:
> Plastic Lizards
> Spinnerbaits
> Senkos
> Tube Lures (except for smallmouth bass)
Roger
Used to have a spinner bait tied on always and can't even remember the last time I gave one a real try...
skillet
I've probably gotten away from the jig the most recently.
Chatterbaits and Senkos.
There was a point when I fished senkos all the time... now I just don't use them nearly as much as I should.
Especially wacky senkos...
Heddon Zara Spook ~ it's been replaced by the Rapala Sub-walk.
A-Jay
curly tailed worms, haven't thrown one at all this year.
Buzzbaits. 3-4 casts with one this year, most it's been thrown in the last 15 years. Yup, major dust collector for me.
Senkos this year.....soft plastics in general. I've done a lot of jig fishing and really seem to catch them as well or better with a jig in the same situations that I would use soft plastics.
this season: flukes. I used to fish them all the time, but I haven't fished them that much this year.
overall: crankbaits. I have caught maybe 20 fish on crankbaits since I started fishing 4 years ago. I bought a whole bunch of them and I haven't caught fish with or even thrown most of them.
To me its always been liped crank baits and soft plastics. Water is not deep enough to throw a crank bait. If it is I lose them in a cast to logs or rocks. Plastic because water is to dark. Spinners, jigs, spooks, lipless crank baits, and jerk baits work great.
DD22's. Too much work

That's one of the best Avatars I've seen in a while. LOL
Tubes
Chatterbaits
Spro frogs
Swimbaits. I just don't have the patience or desire to work that hard for one big bite.
I keep two of the most famous "Info-commercial" lures
in a tacklebox just to remind myself to NEVER buy
another lure that "outfishes live bait" or "may be banned
from tournament fishing."

C'mon RW, which ones are they ? I own an Instant Fisherman deluxe model complete with Flying Lures. Doesn't get much lamer than that ;D
Has to be rat-l-traps. I've only used them one trip this year.
Tubes for me. I used them so much last year and the year before that. Only thrown them once this year for about 5 minutes at that.
Chatterbaits, I think they will be permanent dust collectors
The "chatterbait" was named by 5 different members, possibly more than any other lure (it's one lure I never bought).
During the passion of its mighty liftoff, I dared to say that the chatterbait will likely be a passing fancy.
I was summarily assaulted for making that statement, but now it's the chatterbait's turn in the barrel ;D
Roger
Anything Topwater
although i love the bite, they have just always been the least productive thing so i started using them less and less and now not at all.
for me its been my lipless cranks and my small crankbaits...they just sit there
Spinnerbaits. Maybe because I rarely fish windy days, but they are here when I need them. Also any crankbait that dives more than 6 feet.
Anything that has to do with live bait. It's been years since I have used a bobber or any of my bait holder hooks.
THE BAIT MONKEY IS JUST SITTING BACK AND
LAUGHING!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
the sad thing is, someone is going to see one or two of these listed that we're NOT using to catch fish, and think "hmm, I don't have one of thhose, I need ot go get one and try it" and the bait monkey still wins...
as for me, I hardly catch anytihng on spinner baits or jigs, so they don't get used much. I havn't caught, or even had a good strike on a buzz bait this year, and I don't throw cranks much either, so any of those are jsut collecting right now.
For me, it's plastics. Crankbaits, and spinnerbaits have been putting a TON of fish in my boat, so I haven't used any plastics.
Falcon
Buzzbaits
Pop-R's. Used to be one of my favorites but since trying the Rage Shad, I don't think I've thrown one in 2 years. I keep a Z-Too rigged as a back up.
I don't own anything I don't use. I think it's rediculous to have 9 tackle bags full of stuff, when everything that you actually use can fit in a small box.

True, but what fun is there in that.
Shad raps for me, I used to use them all the time and I bet I have not thrown one in 2 or 3 years.
I have a couple of Chatterbaits that I know have never been wet.I just never get around to trying them.

Com'on...
Lot's of guys are "collectors". We don't really need
all those rods and reels either!
Got more than 700 cranks, more than 100 spinnerbaits, more than 30 swimbaits and perhaps 100 pounds of soft plastics.
From all those I fish with ( give or take a few ): 30 cranks, 5 spinnerbaits, 5 swimbaits and a few worms ( mostly straight tail worms most times ), few grubs and few creatures.
But better having and not needing than needing and not having !
100's of crankbaits, put them down a couple of years ago to dedicate myself to plastics and jigs. Had no reason yet to go back. Still carry them on the boat though. :
I've gotten away from spinner baits . I definately have to correct that.

Dangerous words my friend. The daily whisper of the bait monkey!
That 's my story and I 'm sticking to it !
Here 's another:
When faced to the dilemma of "which one ?" ---> get them both !

If I'm not mistaken, it was Raul himself who coined the expression "Bait Monkey" 8-)

Clearly he's a man who leads by example.

Thats the honest truth right there. ;D
For me its buzzbaits and spooks.Ive replaced them with the Rage Tail Shad.
Carolina rigged plastics....at one time I would fish this every trip. Now it's Texas rigged exclusively. Haven't fish a Carolina in nearly a decade.
Zoom Flukes rigged weightless nosehooked on a 1/0 EWG hook. At one time I wouldn't go without using this, now I never do it although I still carry about 6 bags of them with me on the boat.
Got out of spinnerbaits and buzzbaits for a few years but the past couple of years I've started using them again. Again, took everyone I owned with me when I went time after time, even bought a separate box just for spinnerbaits and ran out of room in it......never fished a one of them.
I'm really bad to get into a lure, even a certain brand of lure, and get 40 kinds of it to use but then only use 3 of them total or eventually quit using them at all. After a while of not using them I'll give them away though, I don't let them build up cause I'm sort of OCD about having them sitting around "incase" I ever need them. If I did that I'd have to take every one I own out everytime I go fishing and it would be overwheming. I get rid of them and then I don't think about it anymore. I've probably given away 100 spinnerbaits at an average of $3 to $4 each. Only have about 30 left now (or should I say "for now").
The bait monkey loves me and my wife hates him. ;D
