I just recently bought some manns 8 inch worms in black. has anyone on here used them and have they had any luck. I hear they are awesome though. going to try them out on Saturday.
I caught my personal best on a cut off Mann’s Jelly worm.! My guess is the worm was around 9-10 inches. Grape color.
WOW I am hoping that this Saturday! you are pretty far from me if not I would have invited you this Saturday. going down along the banks of us27 by the glades

Yeah I’ve never fished that far south- Stick Marsh is the furthest south I’ve fished.
If I went there I would fish what I fish up here- Flukes, senkos, Zoom lizards , trick worms, speed worms, etc. Culprit worms. Might try the ol Mann’s too. Good luck !
thanks dude! I will post a pic here if I catch anything
I have a couple hundred 8" jelly worms in blueberry . Its a good size for both quantity and quality . I have caught thousands of bass on the six inch size , the 8 inch is a size I just started using the last two years and its worked well .
looking forward to using them. I have one in black
i've used them and also the Zoom Ol Monsters. I fish them texas rig and use a light weight...1/8-1/4oz and peg it. I like the slow slithering fall it creates. I think it definitely deters some of the smaller fish to bite, but I'm surprised how many 12-14" fish I catch on it.
Good luck!
Don't worry about those being 'big worms'....in fact, they're only 2/3 the length of the truly big Mann's worms.
Now, I probably wouldn't be throwing 10-12 in worms in January, but, doesn't mean they won't work, too.
The Jelly Worm is still a solid big fish catcher.
I like using the 10" Power Worms in the summer time.
A junebug or plum Ol' Monster is pretty money for me in summertime.
I’ve used the 12” jelly worms, small bass eat them too.
The zoom ol monster is is one of my top producers.

If I had a nickel for every bass I landed using a Blackberry Jelly Worm, I could buy Wall Street. My PB was landed using a Jelly Worm.
Another big worm that's gaining popularity is the Mr. Twister mag 12" buzz worm. I'm going to order some before spring.

Those were the only worms we used to buy as kids. Black and Motor Oil. I still have several packages of them in the 6 inch size.
I use the OL Monster and Mag 2 worms a lot with good luck. I bought a pack black 8" Big Dead Ringers in black last year. Only got to use them once and caught a SMB on it.
I like throwing a big worm. Sometimes it makes me feel like I’m doing something. I’ve also caught lots of 8”/10” bass on the 10/12” worms.
I have a pack of the overly large power worms too and every time I muster the willpower to tie one on, I catch something pretty big. However, I think it intimidates smaller fish so the bites are fewer.

No joke . I use to buy them by the hundreds and used them up quickly . They are Dynomite .
Here is another big worm that works. You can fish it weightless & swim it like a snake just make sure you are holding on when you do this.

The 10 inch Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Bullworm is a beefy bait.
Has plenty of action and is reasonably durable.
(well, it's better than a Senko).
We fish them deep on 3/4 oz size of these ~

Big Bass eat them.

8” black grape jelly worm is my favorite Texas rig worm.
Catches pretty good numbers too. My hook of choice for the big worm is an off set Mustad grip pin in 4/0. Best hook ups with it, and it keeps the bait on for multiple fish.
Strike King Rage Tail Anaconda ...... 10" in red shad. No I don't, but yes I did. ???? jj
11" Case plastics big momma is another good one - I mostly use straight tail worms.

11"!!!! I remember when I was really new to bass fishing, I'd go into the store and see those 11" bass worms or swim-baits and think, a bass isn't going to to be able to eat that! Then I caught a 9lb bass, and realized that a big bass could eat a tractor tire if they wanted to.

Yep - I've some Delongs 18" that 14" bass will eat.

at bass pro the black color was almost sold out so I picked some up in that color. Looks great in the water

that's so true! I used to think the same. still haven't caught a 9 pounder but hopefully soon

I'm sure you'll enjoy that Mann 8".
I throw Netbait 11" C-Mac during Summer and it has caught me many small bass I never thought would eat it. Still throw Zoom Ol' Monster 10.5" as backup. Junebug has always done well in stained water for me.

You may not catch many, but you will take pictures of the fish you catch.

I bet if the tractor tire had a decent shimmy on the fall a DD bass probably would try to eat it. Scale a bass up to the size of a musky and they'd be the most terrifying thing in the lake.
Look up the winning lures for Kissimmee 2020 on Bassmaster. Let's just say first place knew something that your on to.... ????

How do you guys fish them? Just drag it along the bottom?

Drag it on a T-Rig
Drop-Shot with a 3/4 or heavier sinker and 3/0 or larger hook into dense weeds - Bubba-Shot
Long trailer behind a swim-jig
Lots of ways to fish a big worm.

Definitely a Fla bait. No bass up north can eat something that big ????

That's awfully kind of you Tom. I'm in!
First time I threw a 10.5 inch Yum Mighty Worm was on a 5/8 oz Pumpkin ‘Ed jig in 18 fow - I just dropped it over the side of the boat to reset the tension on my reel. 3/4 of the way to the bottom I got nailed by a 19 inch largemouth. I thought this is what I should have been using all year! Have fished that exact set up half a dozen times over the past 5 years without a sniff...
I haven't drank enough of the Kool-aid to but a bunch of different brands of 10 worms. That being said, I always have a Berkley 10" power worm tied on ready to throw. Color depends on whims of the day, mostly blue fleck.
Around here the dinks tend to leave the larger straight tail worms alone. So I pay real close attention if I'm fishing an 8" grape jellyworm and I get a bite.

Oh, they can eat it... I'm just trying to figure out how to get a hook into them after they bite it. Doesn't seem to be enough room left in their mouth for a hook point, lol.
The 10.5" Mightyworm is also a legit offering. I fish them like a fluke for pike and catch a lot of bass in the process.
If Michigan counts as being up North I can assure you that we have Bass up here that have no problem hitting 10" plus worms. I'm partial to the 10" Big Bite Kreit tail worm and for a straight tail the 10" Xcite Maximus has also produced.

They will also bite a power bait 12" ribbontail up here with no problem. Don't under estimate the great northern bass. LOL
I’ve already loaded up on jigs and craws, creatures. This thread is making me want to load up on big worms. Winter time problems are real.
Great post, great replies. Y’all got this Northern Yankee Boy giving this approach some serious thought. I love soft plastics but generally am intimidated of anything over 6 1/2”. A pack of black and green pumpkin in 10” is all I need to get started.
I would fish this with a 5/0 EWG and maybe a 1/4 oz. worm weight to keep it slow on the fall. Is my thinking correct?

Sounds like a good plan for the big worms. Sometimes a lighter weight or weightless can be good too

My biggest problem is I’m a creature of habit and I don’t try new approaches or think outside of the box enough.
I’m gonna order two bags and have them to give it heck. I have everything to approach it. I see 10” worm as huge. Maybe it’s not.
Thanks.
When I'm pitching and want a slower fall I like an 8 inch jelly worm with a 1/8th or 3/16th ounce weight. Gives enough weight to pitch and a slow descent .
As said this is a good post and thread. I appreciate the help I gained off of it. Thanks.
I bit last night and ordered some 10” Power Worms. Black, Green Pumpkin and Watermelon. If it is in the cards to work for me these should work.
Another option for this season. Got me thinking outside the box and away from the norm/comfort zone.

1/4 oz might be the way to go at times especially with straight tail worms as they tend to fall a little faster. That said 3/8 oz is usually where I start with the larger ribbon tail worms and on occasion I will use heavier sinkers. One of the earlier posters mentioned the Magnum title shot jigheads which is another effective way to fish these worms.
