whats your fav spinnerbait rod? 2024

fishing user avatarMuad Dib reply :

whats your favorite spinnerbait rod? just looking for some opinions throw in a few if you want ;D

fishing user avatarDock Master reply :

I have a All Star Pro Series 6'6" MH rod that I use for spinnerbaits.  It does O.K. for me.

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

I'm glad you posted this question because I've been wondering the same thing.  ALL of my rods are at least 7'.  I started buying 7' about 20 yrs ago and never looked back.  I don't have a dedicated spinnerbait rod (only lure rod I don't have) but would like to get one.  Most of the ones I look at are 6'6 to 6'9.  A few are over 7' but it seems most are under.

Whats the reason for so many being under 7'?

The brand to buy will be easy since it HAS to be a Loomis.

fishing user avatarchris fenk reply :

Loomis 844gl3 and dobyns 734.

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

johnny morris signature series 6-6 mh.

fishing user avatarChris at Tech reply :

I love my Kistler Mg 6'9" MH APC for both spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

spinnerbait rods run a little on the short side because accuracy is much more important than distance with spinnerbaits. the shorter the rod, the more accurately you can place the spinnerbait. shorter rods are also easier to work under overhanging limbs and such.

as for my favorite, i've discovered a lot of rods will work decently with spinnerbaits BUT the g.loomis SBR-713C is the best.

fishing user avatarmidnighthrasher reply :

I use a shimano crucial MH xfast 6'10. Use it for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. I love it.

x2 on the reason why spinnerbait rods are short.

fishing user avatarBoogey Man reply :

6' 4" Team All Star.

fishing user avatarAaron reply :

I use my MBR783C IMX.

fishing user avatarbass wrangler569 reply :

My favorite is my custom loomis sbr812 that I built. I also have a 6'6" med carrot stix that I like for spinnerbaits as well. Caught a 40" musky on a spinnerbait about two hours ago using it so it definitely holds up fine!

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

For 3/8-1/2 oz I use a Loomis GL3 CR724.  3/4-1 oz  I use a St Croix Premier PC66HF (6'6" hvy/fast).

got the same rod but use it for jigs and worms? didnt even think of using it for spinnerbaits. thought the tip was a lil too stiff for that.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

As of today it's a 7' MH Avid

x2 great spinner bait rod, but I use it for Jig and worm. Although I am thinking of getting the 6'6" MH as a dedicated spinnerbait rod.

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

Mine is a falcon pistol grip rod 6 foot MH action perfect for accurate cast to stumps, weeds under limbs etc etc

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I like the Quantum PTC666FKV, Kevin VanDam Model. The short handle provides pinpoint accuracy when throwing a spinnerbait into tight, heavy cover. The soft tip a fast taper allows for better feel of the baits action.

And more recently the Quantum PTC6106FKV, also a Kevin VanDam Model. For big spinnerbaits in clear water, the four additional inches in this rod provide excellent casting distance. This one has turned into a very nice swim jig and worm rod as well.

This spring I've been using a Kistler He59MHC, and I've been super happy...I've never had so much fun roll-casting in my life.

fishing user avatarWillzx225 reply :

It used to be a Shimano V-Rod 6'10" MH rod (Very light tip = great for roll casting).  But now it is the new Quantum Tour KVD Spinnerbait rod 6'10".  It is very similiar to the V-Rod but has split foam grips and a nice tip to it.  Great rod.

i've never heard of this rod, only the tour KVD crankbait rods. can you point me to where i can find out more information? thanks.

fishing user avatarWillzx225 reply :

These rods are only available on Quantums website at this time. I guess it is sort of a trial run. They have 2 spinnerbait rods by KVD (6'10" and 7'4") and a few of the other prostaffers have developed technique specific rods as well (ie Rojas - Frog rod, Klein - Flipping stick, Hackney flipping stick, etc.) They are a little pricey but I have two of the 6'10" spinnerbait rods and they are the closest I have found to the Shimano 6'10" V-rod.  I've been impressed so far with them.  Looks like Quantum is trying to get back in the game.  Time will tell though.

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

willzx225, thanks for the info on the custom quantum rods...very interesting. is your 6'10" spinnerbait rod made out of glass or graphite?

here's the link for anyone who might be interested:http://www.quantumfishing.com/CustomShop/TourRods.htm

fishing user avatarBronzefly reply :

Loomis MBR 783 GLX for closer range, 3/8 to 1/2 oz. baits.  MBR 843 GLX for burning spinnerbaits in open water, and MBR 844 GLX for 3/4 and 1 oz slow rollers...

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

My dedicated rod is an Avid AVC70MF matched up with

a Shimano Chronarch and Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12.

8-)

fishing user avatarbugman reply :

open water/ long casts = 7' M st croix premire

Cover/short casts = 6' MH st croix Avid

fishing user avatarWillzx225 reply :

Frank- It is a graphite rod.  It has the same colors and grip as the Crankbait rods but it is all graphite instead of composite.

fishing user avatardave reply :

Castaway SB3 6'2" MH moderate action.

fishing user avatarwagn reply :

I have 2 dedicated spinnerbait rods. Bother are made by EddieTaylor on this board.

One is a med St Croix blank 6'10" for open water

The other is a 5'6" med Shikarii blank
