I was watching Wheels and Reels on World Fishing Network and part of my fishing spirit raged up like Goku turning Super Saiyan. Long story short, both teams were pretty much fishing live bait; so clickers were set and what not. In one take the camera pans to a rod that gets a hit. It looks to be a 6000 size Ambassadeur with a bait clicker. The the nascar fan, hosting one of the teams on his boat, sets the hook, but he doesn't switch off the clicker. As an Abu guy, or even for the general reel tech, that killed me.
Let me here what shreds you up or grinds your gears. I'll be stuck in doors for pretty much the next day and a half (Marlyander).
I've got one that's similar; on the odd occasion out on the rivers I'll hear people fighting fish on a centerpin with the clicker engaged. Not that there's anything wrong with it really, just bugs me a bit.
When I see people holding spinning reels backwards (like you would a baitcaster or a spincast reel)
I also saw a guy using a baitcaster upside down too... that was cringe worthy.
What's wrong with setting the hook with the clicker on?
Jolly, nothing wrong with setting the hook. He just left it on the entire time. It'll kill the pinion gear that winds the idler cog which in turn winds the levelwind worm shaft. The only thing worse is if he left the clicker engaged when casting.

Yeah, I've seen that on the salt water fly fishing segments. That's like scratching a chalkboard. Haha.

This reminds me of another one that bugs me: upside down spinning reels. Apparently it's more intuitive to some people?
Spinning reels upside down also bother me for whatever OCD reason. Another thing is when teens decide to fish behind my house while being as loud and obnoxious as possible, while leaving trash and mishandling fish. One kid thought it would be funny to let the fish flop in the street in traffic. Just gives the sport a bad rep and ruins it for the people who do the right thing
When my friend says he will out fish me but all he does the whole time we are out is get hung or say "get us closer to the bank I can't cast that far". Oh yea he uses like 30lb hi vis catfish mono that looks like a slinky I don't think if a whale hit it he could tell.
I was in an upper class restaurant waiting to be called for a table. There were lots of paintings of the nautical nature hanging. but one got my attention more than the others. I started laughing to the puzzlement of my wife. There was a huge fantastic painting of a fisherman on a rock jetty with a phenomenal sunset and a boat in the background. The fisherman`s spinning reel was distinctly upside down.

Well then, I guess the art is in the flaw for the angler to catch.
I'd have to say that the one thing that almost sends me into a rage is when I'm in the boat fishing and I'm thirty or forty yards from the shore fishing and another boater decides that instead of going the route of the wide open body of water behind me, it's in his (or her) best interest to blow by me at wide open throttle between me and the shore!!
What really grinds my gears is when im fishing with someone shallow and they're making the biggest splashes with their bait or moving around a lot in the boat
Seeing someone lay a $200.+ reel down on a pile of rocks, or pavement.

I'm guilty of this......no boat for me and I primarily wade rivers.....but I hardly ever re-sell my gear though

I'm guilty of this too (laying a rod down on rocks). When I fish from shore with 2 rods I have no choice, but when I set a rod down you'd think it was a stick of dynamite I'm so gentle. I made the mistake last year of letting my son try out my new GLX spinning rod and when he set it down on some rocks it slid a couple feet down an incline. Needless to say he hasn't touched it since...
Some men cry easy.

no i don't
none of these make we want to cry.... what makes we want to cry? seeing someone pulling a boat or with the kayak loaded up while i'm on my way to/from work..... nothing hurts worse!
Some people make not liking them, "so easy".

I hate seeing pro's simply drop their rig on the deck but more than anything I hate to see folks foolishly dunk their reel just to get a trophy pic for the camera. Fly fishermen are the worst considering their super simple reels cost at least 3 or 4 hundred.
Most decent fly reels aren't affected by submersion, unless it's below freezing.
So they say. But to get a truly sealed one your paying the price of new Stella/Loomis combo. It just makes me cry to see that kinda $ dunked into a river bed full of rock.
I cried at the end of Old Yeller.
oh man, where do i start?
1) watching the host of a fishing show hold a fish out of water for a loooong time while explaining the bait and technique used to catch it...it's almost as if he feels he has no credibility unless he's holding a fish in his hand to prove that he knows how to fish. geez, if you're gonna release the fish, then just release it and then explain the technique, etc.
2) when anglers make a big show out of releasing a fish...they kiss it, touch it all over saying what a beautiful fish it is, then hold it by it's belly as they lower it into the water, caress the fish as it swims out of his hands (all the while stripping the fish of the slime coat that protects it from infections, harmful bacteria and parasites).
Not fishing related but when i see crab ads and they have a little wooden mallet beside them,,,thats downright stupid

^...THIS FOR SURE! You would think the pros would know better...... And how about this one. Holding a lunker bass parallel to the ground, by it's lower jaw.

The inner me dies a little when I go to a spot I like and the shore is littered with garbage. I want to cry.
That and when I see "white bucket all-stars" keeping Every. Single. Fish.
when people hold bass like this......
What about when bass hold people like that?

Likely results in a broken jaw, rendering the person unable to eat and they subsequently starve to death...Oh,...The broken jaw would be yours for holding the person like that.
Hootie
Only if the person is fat, though. Lol.
Hey, I resemble that remark!
No seriously when people mishandle bass that irks me to no end.
What grinds my gears is people who have absolutely no clue about gear selection and are too stubborn to try and learn.
When people say "That lure is way too big for those bass"
When some guy is fishing post spawn in a private lake or pond when numerous lures can bring em in but he's saying how great his new lure is and all.
When pros get mad and snap their rods
When Im in my kayak fishing and people ask if I'm fishing
When I'm in my bass boat throwing bass lures and people ask me what I'm fishing for
When I go to Cabelas and the people working there don't know anything about bass fishing. They just look at me like I'm nuts for not fishing for walleye.
People who get all their stuff out of their truck and load their boat on the ramp.
How the winning lure at the classic becomes so popular. I mean it may work for you in your water at the right time but it may not.
That and when I see "white bucket all-stars" keeping Every. Single. Fish.
No much bothers me but two things that do are. 1. Taking bass out of season and 2. Using a cast net to do so.
The worst noise in the world is after you dunk your centerpin and you hear that awful grinding noise... Still worth the picture though, dunk shots and shiny steelhead are awesome. But that noise makes me cry...

Especially when there is a huge line of people waiting to get their boats in. They spend 30 mins trying to find the cooler in the vehicle when its clearly on the ground next to them. Worst of all is people who clearly don't back the trailer down into the water far enough and they try to winch the boat onto a trailer with carpeted bunks. Than to top it all off they pull out and decide to pack all their gear back into the vehicle while the rest of us are still waiting to put the boat in or to get ours out.
That is the reason why there should be thread on BR called "BOAT LAUNCH IDIOTS" It would be the longest running and probably most posted thread here. But, where would you put it?
Boat flipping a fish and then complaining when the rod breaks!!!
All I can say is it's a good thing my boat didn't come with torpedo tubes.
Watching other people bass fishing when I'm working on scaffolding 30 feet in the air. Well, at least I'm outside working on a lake.
I'm not bothered on the manner a person uses their gear or how they treat it. This young lady used to come down to the inlet with her boyfriend every weekend, used her spinning out fit reel on top. She caught snook, jacks and tarpon with her method. I might be upset if she was catching fish and I wasn't, maybe she had the better method, lol.
I have a long list of things that bother me, I have an easy way to avoid those................I don't fish with certain people.

Thats why fishing solo is the best......
Kids these days that promote big companies all over social media, that claim to be "sponsored" for a measley 25-30% retail. Its great to get discounts but theres too many people running around bank fishing with more sponsors than the average BFL guy. Pro-Staff = promotional staff, not professional staff.
