NEW PFLUEGER PRESIDENT XT SPINING REEL SERIES! 2024

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

This one has an aluminum body, MAROON in color. They will still make the graphite one. NO  35 size.

http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=77

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

yuck, I still like the blue one.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

I would rather wait to try it for at least a whole season before I make that choice. My President spinning reels, are my favorite, and the Trion not far behind. I have never ,ever had an issue with their graphite bodies.

fishing user avatardetroit1 reply :

"never, ever had an issue with their graphite bodies" ...Muddy-you old horndog!  ;D

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

I said graphite not plastic you mook

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

Wonder what it's price will be??  If it's aluminum then it's going to be mostly just like the old Medalist before it got it's new upgrade.  Guessing maybe $80 like the Medalist was before it based on that assumption.  I like the maroon color but I don't like that they don't offer it in a 35 size.  They should offer it in all sizes if they are going to the trouble to make it.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I have a Medalist and I have used a President and I much prefer the President.

What he said, the Medalist went into the giveaway stash and has a new owner as of last season.

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

can anyone elaborate on why you prefer the president over the medalist?

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

Lighter, smoother, 30 bucks less and I have never had a problem with a President. I have used them extensively.

I did not like the Medalist especially the bail. I flip the bail by hand, I just wasn't 30 bucks more impressed with the Medalist.

i was thinking about getting one , but im very happy with my president 6725. also , after reading around some , ive seen people say they have had problems with the bail also.  :-/

oh well , i know sports authority had the president combos at $57 and some change last time i was there. not bad.

btw , i kinda like the color of them but still prefer the blue-ish.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

Interesting that Pflueger's blue President reel will now become red at just about the time that the United States' "red" president (republican) will now become "blue" (democrat).

Not trying to get a politics war started, I'm only just making a joke. I have a blue President reel that my wife refers to as "Hillary".

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

Watch out baitmonkey....next year's list.

I'm getting kinda bored with my daiwa tierra spinning reel... ;D

fishing user avatarThefishy1 reply :

Whats weird is that the 2009 catalog has the president xt being black, with a 35 size.

Its alright for me cause I like the supremes, but what I really want to know is when the president rods come out.

The President is dark blue, always has been and yes it comes in size 6735, the new reel is the President xl, the standard President will continue to be made,

The President Rods are available in spinning only currently, if you go on Amazon or Yahoo you can find a few outlets for them they are selling fo 50 bucks a pop

The Medalist was 79 when I bought it , ( not the Gander model) and the  president was 59. I should have said 20 bucks, my mistake. I still have the recipts, clipped to the warranties.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

They just added a Supreme XT < I am starting to think that these XT reels are for Salt Water use, by how they are built

fishing user avatarchris fenk reply :

The new pfluegers are sweet.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

I'm expecting them to be $80 to $90 by how they're made.  Just like the Medalist of 2008, 10 bearings and aluminum frame with rubber grip.  I like the way they look, maroon color and all.  Don't really need one, but if I'm gonna get another spinning reel this coming year (and I am, just the wife doesn't know yet, haha) then I'd consider this new President XT.......but I really wish they made it in a 35 size.  I may just have to get another "regular" President, the blue one that is.

fishing user avatarJoe Boss reply :

Oh happy day, this is good news.

The old Medalist didn't have On / Off anti-reverse (Muddy can correct me if I am wrong). Same problem as the Infusion. They were very heavy, in my opinion they were made more for saltwater fishing than fresh.

fishing user avatarJoe Boss reply :

Sorry for the triple post but according to the latest North American Fisherman magazine the Pres XT is $79.95

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

I don't know, the one I had , 2 years ago had an n and off switch, maybe Cart 7 can help you with that

HeyGulfman: Any where in that artcile when the new President Trigger  Rods coming out? I know they will sell at 50 bucks each, do not know who has them uet.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Nothing on the President rod, sorry. They had a review on about 50 new items, rods reels and tackle.

i did notice the weight difference. the larger presidents can be used for both accoring to thier website.

ive never really understood the whole antireverse switch. ive never used it. wth is it for?  :-?

anyways , i may hit up sports authority this week and see if they have anymore president combos and just snag one up for a b-day/xmas present to myself. at under $60 a pop , they seem like a great deal imo. last time i went they only had the 6735 model.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

Thats right RW, it would be the same for ABU also. Not everyone is a SHE MANO LEMMING here ;D

That 6735 would be the one I want!! Under $60 a pop?? I paid that for the REEL this passed spring!!

I only use my antireverse switch when I accidentally reel the line up to far to make another cast.  I flip it off momentarily and roll the line backwards a turn or so, then reengage it again and problem solved.  Some people like Shaw Grigsby don't use antireverse at all, they just let the line play out backwards as a fish takes it and slow it's rotation with their hand as it goes.  I saw him do that on his show once.  I didn't like the idea at all though.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

When I fish the river with live bait, I leave it off sometimes and use my index finger on the line to control bait drift.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

Not too fond of that color but love my 6740... a little heavy but matched with my 7' MH extreme I can fish all day with it.  Pflueger definitely gets my vote for spinning reels and it's all because of the president.  :)

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

if i can convince the fiance to go by sports authority with me , i may bring one home if they still have them today.  :)

ive never used any antireverse switch.

fishing user avatarSharkbite reply :

Great deal!

Muddy this reel sounds nice.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

You got a real deal!!!  I think the 40 size is just a bit large for my tastes but if you like it then you'll never beat it, wow I can't believe you only paid that little bit for the COMBO!!!  Awesome!!!

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

That's a great deal for the combo...I have the 6740 and love it

fishing user avatarCatch22 reply :

I just picked up the President XT tonight.  I picked it up in the 6735 size.     It was selling for 59.99 and they were having a 10% off sale at my local tackle shop.  It ended up costing me less than 54 bucks.  I can't wait to try it out.

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

muddy how is the fusion i played with one seemed nice but 70 bucks i think whats ur take on it???

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

Never handled one.I am very happy with Trion BC's and President Spinning reels. I got tired of selling my reels ,UPGRADING, only to ditch those and come back to what I use.

fishing user avatarbass wrangler569 reply :

I'm sure its a nice real seeing as the old president's were fantastic but man that is one ugly color.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

It seems that this President is for Salt Walter applications
