I want to hear what y'all have to say about a dedicated all around jig/t. rig setup, money is of no issue cause I am just playing around/researching right now and not looking to buy something anytime soon. My current jig rig is a G. Loomis IMX MBR 843C 7' MH with a Curado 200E7 and suffix 832 #20 braid w/ approx 15 feet of Seaguar Invizx #12 floro as leader. My soft plastics t. rig rod is a G. Loomis NRX 802C 6'8" M XF with a Core 50MG7 and #12 Seaguar invizx florocarbon. I absolutely love both of these setups, but was thinking about trading the NRX in for the MH version (803C I believe). What do you think?
My all around Jig Rods/Soft Plastics - 853C GLX, and 854C GLX. I personally like a 7' rod though, but these are my two "go to" Jig/Plastics rods. - Ci4+ on the 853C and 50MG on the 854C.
My favorite rig is a GLX MBR842C/ Core 50MG/ Tatsu #12 dedicated to swim jigs and small, soft swimbaits.
However, I think the tip is too soft for bottom contact. These are my traditional jig rigs: GLX MBR844C/ CTE
200GT/ Tatsu #20, BCR854/ Curado 200E/ Kanzen braid with #20 Tatsu leader, BCR893/ Curado 50E/ Tatsu
#12. I will probably replace all of these over time with the comparable NRX version.

If you want to send one of those replaced GLX's my way, I wouldn't complain
My jig setup is a 7'1 croix LTB with a lews tourny pro spooled with #20 tatsu
t rigs setup is a 13 *** 7'1MH with a CI4+ ( as soon as ups brings it lol)
Mine is a 6"8 mh fast action st croix LTB with a Lew's tournament mg 40# power pro 12-15 pound fluoro leader
T rig is a 723 endurance with a steez #12 fluoro
Jigs is a 723 endurance with a zillion #50 pp
For jigs in the 1/2 to 3/4 range I use a Dobyn's DX745 paired with a Chronarch Ci+ (usually for brush jigs) with 20# Sunline
For jigs 1/4 to 3/8 i use a Lamiglas Infinity 735 with a Lew's Tournament Pro with 14 to 17 lb flouro
Football jigs I use the Power Tackle Football Jig Special which is a 7ft6 MH paired with a Curado 200E7 and 16# Sunline
Dobyns DX 744 or Dobyns 735C. Both with Lews TP's in 7:1 spooled with #50 braid and usually a leader.
BCR854GLX......I have a couple of them and they are always with me!
Reels are Shimano 7:1 or higher. Right now is a Chronarch 200e7 on one and a Metanium XG on the other. Might try my new ci4 on one next. I am always experimenting!

OUCH!
I have a sinking feeling that I'll be a poorer man by year's end...if you get my drift

NRX 873 / fully customized TDZ 100m / 12# Tatsu
Megabass Orochi xx EMTF / Shimano Scorpion 1000xt customized / 12# Tatsu
Dobyns dx742 / fully custom TD Alphas / 10# Tatsu
These are my 3 heavy hitters seeing the most use though I will use a few others as well when needed. Combos are listed from most powerful to the most finesse. Will never part with any of these!
Darn! With that kind of budget there is no sense in me mentioning what I use for jigs. I'd be laughed off the forum.

HA, this is where I usually will spend money on a rod too..bottom contact. Even though an ET or Aetos probably is just fine. It's just that when I first bought the GLX I was like in "Heaven" on how it feels to handle and even better to fish with. I am hoping to convince my wife for my birthday to get me a NRX 893C, what she is saying now. Sell some of your equipment, I looked at her like she was a blasphemer asking me to commit a sin.
7'2"mh denali kovert with a Lews Speed Spool 7:1:1

Me too. BUT.............I bet you I catch just as many, if not more jig fish on my "junk".

I think "catching" has very little to do with equipment, but it makes the other
99% of "fishing" more fun. That said, gear "might" compliment a fisherman's
skills, but whether that marginal difference is worth the price is a personal
matter.
1. Dx 745 with zillion 50th high speed and 20 sniper fluoro
2. Dx 744 with chronarch d7 and 15lb sniper
3. Big stuff gets my soon to arrive dx 746 with zillion type r and 65 pp braid
4. Football head jigs and deeper water stuff is the DX Mike Long jig rod and 50th zillion with 17lb invizx
This is great guys, let's keep it going....and it doesn't matter if you have "junk" gear as someone said earlier; it took me some time and a deployment to build the gear I have up from a Zebco 5'6" combo rod . If it works for you then that's all that counts!

Well my "junk" as I stated before is:
Shimano curado 51E spooled with 20lb Power Pro braid, and a 12 or 15lb flouro leader on an Abu Garica 7' M Vendetta...........I use this for 3/16, 5/16, finesse jigs.
Abu Gen 2 Revo. STX, spooled with 30lb Power Pro, and a 15,17, or 20lb fluro leader on an Abu Garcia 7'6" MH Vendetta.........."GP" jig work with 3/8-3/4 oz. jigs
Abu Gen 1 Revo STX, spooled with 50lb Power Pro, and a 17, or 20lb flouro leader on an Abu Garcia 7'6" H Vendetta.............heavy cover, flipping and pitching jig work.

Doesn't sound like junk to me....
Fenwick Techna Av w/Curado, 15# Invisex - all bottom contact
Allstar ASR w/ BPS Extreme, 20# Invisex - Jigs only
Custom on a St.Croix blank w/ 1st. gen Revo S, 50# braid - all punching

Dude, my most expensive rods are IMX´s, I used to own a GLX and I swear, other than a slight difference in weight I felt absolutely no difference between it and an IMX .... I don´t think I will ever replace my IMX´s for something more expensive like GLX´s or NRX´s, if I can´t feel the difference I see no point in spending 100+ bones in upgrading. For spinnerbaiting, crankbaiting n´such I fish with GL2´s , so don´t feel bad, wanna know something ? I can whup some rear end using a beer can as gear.
Primary jig rod -Powell Endurance 714, Lews Tournament Pro - 30 lb Spiderwire Ultimate
Powell Endurance 764, Lews Super Duty - 50lb Spiderwire Ultimate
And I will use lighter jigs and light swim jigs on Powell Endurance 723, Lews Team Pro with 30 lb Spiderwire Ultimate.

Don't worry about it man. The reason I have nicer stuff is because I'm not that good of an angler and I want as many advantages as I can lol. I wanna put what little factors I can in my favor. Jig fishing takes a crap ton of practice.
Case in point, the guy I take guided trips with in Virginia has old beaten down gear and only uses mono. We could fish in 30ft of water and he out fishes me by way too large an amount with what most people consider older, cheaper gear. Practice practice practice
Jig rod for everything but grass - 7' H/XF Carbonlite, Revo Premier 6.4:1, 17lb Fluoro
Jig rod for grass (Punchin/Flippin) - 7'9" H/F St Croix Mojo, JM Sig 7.1:1, 65lb Braid
T-rig rod for everything but grass - 7' MH/F Carbonlite, PQ 7.1:1, 17lb Fluoro
T -rig rod for grass - 7'9" H/F St Croix Mojo, JM Sig 7.1:1, 65lb Braid
I spend all my big money on fly rods
I use a skeet Reese jig worm rod paired with a BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1:1 and spooled with 14# Berkley Vanish. It serves it's purpose but I am too a point where I am going to start upgrading to nicer stuff. I doubt I will catch anymore fish than I do now but it will definitely be more enjoyable to fish with!
Presently my 1/2 oz Jig & Craw is on the combo below:
ROD
Dobyns Champion 705C [7' 0" - Mag Heavy - Fast - 3/8 to 1-1/2 oz - 12 to 25 lb]
REEL
Shimano Core - 101Mg [Left-hand - 6.0 oz - 11 lb max drag]
Roger
My weapons:
7'1" MHF *** - Daiwa T3 Ballistic - 20lb Seaguar Abriazx
I have a 7'4" HF St. Croix Rage coming in. Plan is to pair it with my Daiwa Tatula - 65lb 832. I plan on using this as my frogging/punching rod.
My setups:
1) Shimano Clarus 7' 2" MH/FLews tournament MGwith 15 lb invisx
2) shimano compre 7'2" M/XF Daiwa T3 B 12 lb invisx
3) shimano compre 7'2" MH/XF Abu promax 15 lb abrasx
4) st. croix triumph 7' M/F quantum kinetic 12 lb invisx
5) st. croix mojo 8' flipping stick quantum kinetic 20 lb floro
6) gander mtn GSX tournament 7'6" MH/F daiwa tierra 50 lb PP
hoping to add a tatula combo before the season starts here up north...

Finesse Jigs/t-rigs
7' 1" MH/XF LTB/200E7
jigs/pitching
7' 6" MH/F LTB/200E7
big jigs and t-rigs
7' 3" MH/F LTB/200E7
There is one set up I don't go fishing with out. My 7'9" Xtra-Heavy Duckett White Ice with a Shimano Chronarch E and 65 pound power pro.
I just bought a new set up and it is a 7'8" Xtra-Heavy Denali Kovert with a Shimano Citica G and also 65 pound power pro
My last set up is for a little lighter pitching and it is a 7'3" Heavy Duckett White Ice with a Lew's Super duty.
The Denali Kovert is a good rod but boy is it ever over matched by that White Ice.

I rarely fish a trig. If i do its just with what I consider my jig rods. I have 3.
7 1 mh legend elite
7 1 glx heavy
7 3 heavy glx
My main setup is a RodTech Custom Rod 7'3" MH/F with a Quantum Accurist 7.0:1 Burner

The NRX series rods are faster action than the GLX and about 1/2 power stronger; 3 power is about 3 1/2.
I would suggest that you touch and feel before buying.
The NRX are state of the art rods, the negative being price and warranty, the $100 wild card return sucks.
You might want to consider a custom built rod using a blank equal to NRX.
Tom

So your saying that my NRX 802 is closer to an 803 in GLX? kind of how St. Croix rods are more powerful than advertised.

The only one I could think of would be Gary's North Fork Composites HM, but that's just from reading not from experience.

St. Croix has a very high performance blank as well though the name escapes me. The best perforning blank in the eyes of custom builders and custom rod junkies is the phenix K2's.

If I fished with the same quality of gear I did 30 years ago, I would give up fishing...again...at least until I could retire and move to a place better suited for catching fish. I can't afford top tier gear. However, all my current gear is better than any I ever had before. Nice gear is the only thing that keeps me going out and trying. Although I spent more time on the water last year than since I was a teenager, I didn't go to "fish". I went to try out new gear and to practice my casting. This was enough to keep me happy. The fact that a few really stupid fish were around the boat ramp and hit my lures was just icing on the cake.

There's several more LTB's and curado's in the lineup, but there's other rod and reels brands also. They're my favorite rod/reel combos overall that I've owned but if someone else offers something that I feel will do a specific job better then I'm not so brand loyal that I can't go with the better tool for the job
7'2" MH/F Skeet Reese Micro, PQ 6.3:1 with 15lb Invizx. This past year, this rod got a lot of use as I threw jigs most of the time. I am looking to upgrade within the next year.
