Steez Or Core 2024

So, it happened. I tasted a reel (Aldebaran) more refined than my Tournament Pro's... I'm looking at getting another, of course. I love the way the Aldebaran palms, and its crazy smooth, but I want a 6:1 reel that I can pull double duty as a worm/jig rod and a squarebill/spinnerbait reel. I'm a bit lost on which reel to look at getting. I want something similar size to the Aldebaran, but I realize the core 50 series are only 7:1. How do you guys like the Steez? Maybe I should think about a Metanium as well? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Just saw the TP 6:1 is a 28in/turn, just as the Core 51.

It never stops man, it never stops. Personally, I would go with the Core but only cause I love Shimano. I have not used a Steez but I'm sure you will be happy with it. Not gonna lie tho, I have a Metanium HG and a Chronarch Ci4+ and I don't prefer one or the other, so if you were going to go the Metanium route, you could save some money by getting the Chronarch.

Thanks! The more I'm looking at it I think I'm leaning towards the Core51. For the money I'm willing to spend I personally feel like the Chronarch is a bigger size than I'm looking for. I should probably bring my rods into BPS and mount the different reels on them and see how they feel to make the best decision. Unless the Metanium is THAT much better, I'm probably gonna look pretty hard at getting the Core.

Just get a Aldebaran MG if you don't mind it's 5.8 gear. Metanium is much bigger than 50 size shimano.

You mention spinnerbaits FYI core50mg7 gets labored with 3/4oz spinnerbaits not good at all, I feel, trying to reel them in.
Keep an eye on Gander Mountain website they have 50mg7 for $260-280 about once a month for a day or so and just had them.

I have a Steez and a Core and the Steez is hands down more refine. It's crazy smooth on nice mono/flouro lines. However I wasn't too impressed with the casting on the Steez. Not horrible but not to the standards of a reel that expensive. The core cast a lot better and less finicky. The Core seems to have more torque too as the Steez feels over worked with medium diving cranks. Spinnerbaits might have too much resistance for both reels though. IMO I think the Core is more versatile than the Steez but man the Steez is one heck of a reel. I've tried my T3 1016 RCS spool on the Steez and wow, so much better.

For whatever reason I prefer the core. I have had mine since it came out and it has been a work horse reel. It is not as smooth as the Steez but it just fits me better.

Thanks for all the replies yall. in all honesty the only way in getting a steez is if I find one used. My max is probably around 350, which puts the shimano reels in my sites given sales.
I have handled the met before and it felt nice, just never put it on a rod to truly size it up.
I throw shallow to medium diving cranks 100x more often than spinner baits, and even then, I'm probably throwing a swim jig before a spinner bait. I think the heaviest spinner baits I have ate 1/2oz too.

I own a steez with rcs 1016 spool and boca os7 bearings. As mentioned it's butter smooth and light but I honestly don't feel it's worth the money I have invested in it. I'll second the casting issue. I have a bone stock tatula on the same rod and it see's 5x more use than the steez.

Hmmm... very tough to answer. I would look for used and in mint or close to condition for both. There is/was a core 50 mg on here for $250. A steeze would be closer to $300-325 used.
The core is just an outstanding multi purpose reel. The gears are very smooth and even when using light cranks and jerkbaits you don't get a geary feel.
The steeze is available in both the 103 and 100 series. The 103 is more finicky. The shallower spool starts quick and requires less force. Good for finesse and flipping but not laying into a cast for max distance. The 100 series is more all purpose and less finicky. As others mentioned the 1016 spool helps tame the reel.
I really don't think there is much difference in frame size. They both palm remarkably well and are light as a feather. If I was casting only soft baits and jigs I would get the steeze 100. If I wanted an all around reel that is less costly and easy to operate while using multiple types of bait I would lean towards the core. Also of note when the cores bearings are cleaned and flushed they are close to a 10 on the rating scale. Several trusted reel techs have told me this. I can't comment on the stock bearings in the steeze but I am sure they are good as well.

The Steez is a much more refined reel than the Core, the Core is nice, the Steez is reely nice.

In my experience the Steez has more reliability issues than the Core, primarily in the level wind. Some of the materials while light weight, are very soft. The Steeze may feel a little smoother but not $100 smoother. IMO the Core is the biggest bang for the buck among "high end" reels

It comes down to what you prefer, centrifugal or mag brakes...

When its all said in done i need these two in my daily lineup...
1. aldebaran bfs
2. Core 50/51
Both smooth, light, strong drag, and palm great. You get the 8:0 and 7:0 gear ratios which cover everything but cranks. Thats what you get the new conquest for... 
Which leaves you the met xg 8:5 for frogs/buzzbaits/jigs. That will be my next reel.
Theres only one thing i like about daiwas, the external braking adjustment, but the good thing about shimanos are you set two brakes and never really have to open the reel. And with the newer models, you now have the external braking for that little bit of extra adjustment...
If your enjoying the bfs xg, the core is pretty much a slightly bigger reel, 1/2oz heavier, and 7:0 gear ratio. I wouldnt hesitate to pick one up...

Thanks! I really like the Aldebaran, so I'm kind of leaning towards the Core 51. My biggest concern is its ability, or lack of ability, to handle crankbaits. I'm not throwing any DT22's or anything, but definitely squarebills and mid range divers, like Wiggle Warts. Do you think that's too much for the 51? If it is I may opt for the Met101.

I can't speak to your cranking question with the Core, as I've never used mine for that. I have used the Core 101 and 51, and the Steez 100 and 103. I like the Steez, like other said, it's buttery smooth. But I LOVE the Core 51. I would trade one of my Steez for another Core 51. Just something about that reel that feels good in my hand, and I also feel it casts better than the Steez.

I wouldnt worry about it, aaron martens throws cranks on the 7:4 met...
But, if the reel is going to be for only cranks and spinnerbaits you might want to consider the 6:2 met.

The Core will handle wiggle warts and square bill just fine as long as you're ok when the fast ratio. Btw I got my Steez used too and it was the previous models. There is no way the Steez EX is worth the current pricing.

This will probably be my next reel now haha. I fish way more soft plastic type applications than hard baits and I really prefer a low profile for those. The more I'm reading about the Conquest though, the more I'm thinking that's going to be next on my list for mostly hardbaits.

I've had 4 of the older 51 series and there just awesome reels. I was hesitant to get the new one but when I got my hands on it I was straight up amazed. That and the Antares are smooth as butter...

I have a Core 50 and a Metanium XG. Both are great. I love the small size of the 50. I use my Metanium for my jig rod (DX744) and really like it. It's smooth and cast the best out of all the other reels I have. Don't worry about the Core not being able to handle anything. I have used it for everything except deep cranking. It would be hard for me to pick one or the other. Just see what fits your hand and rod better. Or just buy both

If you like the Steez, look into the SS SV. Similar performance with much better casting, and a lower price.

Have you given the Shimano Scorpion XT1000 any consideration? It is a 50 size, 6.4:1 and sweeeeeeeeeeeet! It comes with one bearing in each knob and a bushing so adding a bearing to each knob in no big deal. You can get it for around $200.00 tyd from Japan Lure Shop.
Tackle Tour thinks it's a better caster than it's Shimano JDM brother, the Aldebaran.
