My Revo sx comes in the mail tomorrow and I need to pair it with a rod. My budget is about $100 and im limited to Gander mtn or dicks sporting goods so no BPS rods. its going to be a Jig/frog combo most likely im thinking MHF rod 7' or better. I mostly fish from shore or a little row boat on a private lake. What would your recommendations be its also gonna be spooled with braid if that makes a diffrence. Im pretty harsh on my equipment also getting in and out of my 4dr lumina bouncing from spot to spot.
Of those choices, the best feeling and most sensitive is the Veritas. I just got a 6'6" at Dicks last month and its incredible for the price. I cant say I feel its tough enough to be called a beater though. If your rough on a rod like you say the Mojo is tougher. Ive got 2 that get mistreated by my boat partner alot. Still if you want a really tough rod to not worry about Id get a Ugly stick or Volteus and learn to cope with its weight and lack of sensitivity.
I dont beat them persay they just get tangled alot in my car and I tend to just rip them out a couple of my rods broke last year but they were old and cheap.
These are $7. Pretty cheap, compared to the price of a decent rod: http://www.therodglove.com
Veritas. JMHO
im probably gonna get a rod glove and reel cover the wife already brought it up sense its a "big invesment" uduslly she only lets me get cheap set ups.
Of the three options you listed, I'd put the Mojo at the bottom. The Verdict and Veritas are both excellent rods -- the Verdict giving you more transportability options with its collapsable handle (coming from a car guy, this is a great feature!), but the Veritas uses "Nano-technology" which is also used by many other manufacturers in an effort to strengthen the rods against nicks and scrapes that weaken rods with 'normal' construction.
To me it sounds like the Veritas might be the perfect rod for you -- it's also extremely sensitive so it sets up well as a jig rod.
I think you got the order right in your thread title...
QuoteVeritas vs Vendetta vs Mojo bass
I broke 2 Cumaras this last year, one of them twice. They all had rod jackets on. Theyre great for in a boat locker maybe on a bass boats deck. They didnt save me from rough co anglers feet. Theyre great to avoid lure and line tangles. Everyone will say otherwise but you might think about a travel rod. Theyve come a long way as far as maintaining action is concerned especially for a power fishing rod.
I own a 7 ft MH Fast Vendetta and Veritas 7 ft Heavy XF
Veritas = Awesome Jig rod
Vendetta= Awesome Spinnerbait rod
I would get a telescopic 7'6" Heavy MF or Fast tip. You definitely want a soft tip on a Frog rod but stiff enough to pitch/cast jigs. I have a Team Daiwa-V 7'6" Heavy an it is perfect!
Since you are limited to Dick's or Gander I would take the veritas as well. They are very light and have read many good things about them. You might also want to check out there store brand rods as well. Dick's has the Tec Spec rods by Field & Stream which are normally $59 with a $10 off coupon. There are a couple people on the board that have fished them and like them as well. They are technique specific as well. Sure Gander has its own rod brand as well.
Im most likely gonna get the Veritas the 7'3 MHF I hope gander has them in stock i dont know if I could wait for it to come in the mail like the revo is. I do have a Tec spec as well and love it but it got closed in the car door and snapped im hoping to replace it with the paycheck after this one.
Here's a hint to not break rods in car doors: Only have ONE door open (passenger front). Put rods in tip-first (carefully) towards the drivers' side rear window glass. Once in, place butts of rods at the floor where the passengers' left foot would go. Close door.
That's usualy how I put them in my car I don't remember how it closed in the car door I was probably getting something out of the back a lot of my spots I just pull up grab a rod throw some lures in my pocket and make a few casts. Some spots ill grab everything but the kitchen sink.

To add to this, if your car has a 60/40 split back seat, then lower one of the seats and put the rods in through the trunk, tip first at an angle and lay the handle on the trunk floor, it keeps the rods straight and not bouncing around in transit. That is how I transport my rods in my car. It fits rods up to 7' this way. For my swimbait rod that is 7'10" I do the same but rest the rod tip on the center console between the front seats. Another trick that I do is I took one of my girlfriends foam toe separators for painting toenails and got some adhesive velcro strips, stuck one side on bottom of the separator and the other side on the seat back and stuck it to the seat. You now have a "rod rack" on the back of your seat! This trick has kept my rods separated and in place in the car.
If the Veritas is in your price range why even consider the Vendetta? I haven't personally owned a Mojo but I would definitely recommend the Veritas. The 7'3 MH should be a great all around rod for jigs, frogs etc.

to save a little moola for lures and make the wife happy but im going with the veritas 7'3MHF
No experience with the Mojo but I own both the Veritas and the Vendetta and they have to be without a doubt the best rods in the price range. My 6'6 M Veritas is lighter than air and my 7' MH Vendetta has all the backbone to get largemouth out of the slop. You cant go wrong with either of these Abu Garcia master pieces.
I personally think the Mojo is a rip-off...... Made me very upset when I bought it > > >

the Mojo blank isnt the worst blank in the world. where i think the Mojo fails is the handle is too short, having to much affect on the balance of the rod.
I have 2 Veritas and they're both nice. I also have one Mojo Bass, used to have 2 of those as well. St. Croix rods are very well made through all series, but the Veritas is lighter and better balanced, to me. I love my 6'9" MHXF Veritas the most.
One thing I do have to say about them is that quality control could improve a bit. If you buy one in the store, look it over really well and make sure the guides are straight and not overly covered in epoxy, and that there are no ridges or flaking in the finish between the handle and first guide. That said, at that price point, the rods are really nice. The Vendetta rods are also really nice, especially for only $80. And they're not white!
veritas, go for it.
I have several Mojos and really like them. They fit my preference which is something you need to find. That being said none of the Mojos fit what I like in a rod that would be used for jigs and frogs. The one they make for frogs is about as big around at the base as a pool cue. I'd go with one of the Abu's.
VERITAS!!
I have a couple Mojo Rods, 6-9 M XF Wacky Spinning rod, and 7' H Frog/Slop baitcasting rod. I also picked up a 6'6" MH Spinning Veritas this winter but I've only used it once so far. I really like the Wacky Mojo rod for fishing senkos and some other baits. Quite sensitive and great for the technique. I dont like the Frog/slop Mojo at all for frog fishing though. Like mentioned earlier, its thick and heavy and too stiff in my opinion to make the frogs work properly, which is why I bought the Veritas MH. So far the Veritas seems nice and sensitive, plus it feels so light.
Sensitivity wise both are about the same. I hope the veritas will be a bit more durable like they've been advertising it to be, that would be nice.
Try the 7' MH/Fast or the 7'6" MH/Mod fast Mojos. A MH St Croix, reguardless of the series (Mojo, Premier, Avid, LTB) is a very stout rod capable of any heavy cover fishing. A heavy powered St Croix is a pool stick......IMHO the worst choice for a bass rod in the whole St Croix line, at least here in the north east. Maybe in Cali., Texas, or Florida where you need the power to pull double digit bass from very very heavy cover on 65+ lb braided line, then I would buy one, but they really have no place in my NY bass arsenal.
I have 3 Vendettas (went with these over Veritas because I found them on line for $47). I love them! No better rod for the money even at full price of $80.
BTW the vendor that I got mine from is Midwest Hunters Outlet online store. The website is a major PITA but you can find them in Google shopping and link to it.
MediumHeavy is right about the quality control from Abu. I examined 6+ Veritas on the rack at Dicks before finding one that didnt have blemishes in the eva. All of them had black scuff marks on the white blanks. Im amazed at the Veritas lightness but you gotta use a magnifying glass.
I have 2 Mojo's and they're heavy duty, heavy weight and well made but both were made in USA at the beginning of production. Sadly the cork rear grip is too short on the casting models. I cant get a good grip for a one handed cast.

Abu's QC has made the Veritas one of the best rod buys in the $100 range. You buy one rod, and it comes with enough epoxy for two. ;D
My mojo spinning rod is rather heavy, or maybe it just isn't 'balanced' as well as the other rods in that price range. I don't own a Veritas, but my husband does and he likes it. The white color makes for a handsome rod, too.
I personally feel that the balance of the Mojo isn't nearly as bad as the sensitivity! I would expect more from St. Croix than that, honestly....
I ended up going with a 7'6" veritas MH threw the new revo sx hs on it and 50# PP. The thing is so light and sensative I used it yesterday for the first time omg was it nice casts a mile if a fish farts on the lure i'll feel it its crazy. I sold my old O/U combo shotgun at the gun show this weekend and am gonna pick up a few more revos and veritas with the money from the gun.
I would choose the veritas.. the 7'6mh is definitely my next rod.. as soon as i sell my ***** reese flippin stick..
PS.. i wish my dicks carried abu garica rods.. the best rods they have there are st. croix..
I got mine at Gander originaly a 6'6" MH then went to dicks and they had one and only one it so happend to be a 7'6" MH casting rod exactly what i was looking for so i explained to the guy in the lodge i just bought one at gander but really want the 7'6. He agreed that the 7'6" would be better and allowed me to do a even swap sense the price was the same.
I got the 7-6 Veritas Flippin Stick on a whim about a week ago and remain quite impressed with the rod on the whole. It's a rod that is reasonably light yet has a lot of power to move fish. It has very fast recovery in terms of pitching; you could immediately set the hook on a fish after the bait hits the water. It's got just enough tip to pitch a light jig a decent distance and remain quite accurate. It's definitely not a Loomis or Dobyns, but it's not a bad stick at all.

Have you even tried different lines?
I have all 3 rods and the order you posted it is how I would rate them. The Mojo is heavy compared to the other two.
I hate to do this, but does your Gander still have those "orange rods" on sale for $75?
