So while I was looking at the Veritss rod I realized... I can see this rod against the background (trees, boat, water) easier. So that got me looking around.
What are the best 'colored' rods on a budget?
So far I've found some orange Carrot Stix, Veritas, Duckett and the yellow Skeet Reece ones.
If anyone have any other bright blanks like that let me know!
Best color for a rod IMO are the St Croix LTBs
What color are they?
Ltb is Blue. Probably not good for your purpose. Stay away from carrot stix. Ducketts going to be your best bet I think for quality and being white in color.
Like a cobalt blue
learn how to put the guides and grips and such on and you can get any blank you like and paint it any color you want
The addition of any finish will adversely affect the sensitivity of the rod. However the only high end rod I can think of that doesn't have a finish on it is the blue NRX
That said I also like the white rods but I also like a cork grip and I'm not a fan of a white rod with a cork grip.
Rick Clunn has an aqua green colored one that is made by Wright & McGill. Lamiglas has a bright metallic copper colored rod. Okuma has a lime Green one.
I would like to think my Veritas blends in with the clouds so the fish can't see it
Dobyns makes a camouflaged rod if you want to really blend in...
I care less what the color of the rod is.

He's got a reason for the visibility of the rod. Help the guy out as he's not looking for your personal opinions on color. He's trying to get a selection useful to him.

+1
The OP is color blind he has a good reason for wanting a colored rod. Its not about the fish seeing the rod its easier for him to see the rod.
Academy has the H2O Xpress Ethos rod that is a bright blue,
Daiwa aird bright orange. Not bad at all for $50

I know the TFO Gary Loomis rods are color coded based off of their power ratings. Not sure how the rod is, but you could check a few of those out.
I'm curious to why one has to see their rod, isn't it being held. I fish before sunrise everyday and I don't look at my rod, I'm looking where I throw my lure.
The op mention in one of his first posts that he is legally blind. He is looking for colored line & rods to help him with visibility. I'm sure he has the feel aspect down pat just wants to help with the visibilty aspect.
I'm not going to continue to beat the dead horse about my eyesight anymore. I did at first so it would help others understand why I ask questions that I ask. As mentioned by a couple of the other memebers, that is why I am asking about colored rods.
I won't watch my rod in particular while I am fishing like another poster asked. However, considering my condition. The carpet in the boat is Greyish / Darkish charcoal color, so all the rods blend in if they are on the deck. So something that is white / orange / yellow will appear as a straight contrast will allow me to find the rod on the deck quicker and easier.
Going back to when I'm fishing.. I can't just look up and spot the line.. .so being able to find the white blank against the background to follow it all the way to the end so I can at least try to see my line will make it easier for that too....
My apologies for firing up a "who cares what color it is", I didn't know it was a man card issue.
Another thought is you can put some high vis duct tape on a few spots of the rod blank if you can't settle on a colored one. Something like a neon yellow or pink might help.
Hope you can find what you need Coots. Tight lines.
I think the best rods in the world are made on Blue and Green Blanks, but can see how it would help you if they could be seen as well as they can be felt!!!!
Maybe just spray the tip about the first 3 guides with a glow in the dark paint, as it is a light color in the day to contrast between the carpet or dark colors, and glow in the dark if used at knight. Her is a link to a sight that has several options for whitish green orange blue light yellow, and others by day and glow in the dark at night. http://glonation.com/index.html

Very interesting.
Do you think this would affect the sensitivity or adversely affect the rod in anyway?
Out of the rods you mentions the ducketts with the regular guides would be my first choice. Alot of people on the other forum speak very highly of them. I only have one its my pond fishing rod so it gets used alot and beat up trekking throught the woods. Its held up pretty good so far. I have no experience with any of the others.

I think maybe some of their vinyl and tapes "MIGHT", but I would think the paint 2 or 3 light coats of paint wouldn't be a noticeable difference. But that's why I posted the link,,,,,they should be able to answer that! If you try it be sure to post us with your results, it would be great if this would help others with your condition!!!
All Pro rods are nice and they are kind of a baby blue color. Not the brightest but unusual for sure.
The Abu garcia Veritas is a nice light White rod. I love mine. It would be an easy rod to see against the trees and carpet in the boat.
The original post in this thread makes no mention of being color or legally blind.
I don't read every single topic, more than possible to miss background information on each and every person.
Against dark colored carpet it doesnt get much more contrasted than white. And my favorite rod, the duckett, just happens to be white with some maroon rings so it even matches your hat That being said it is a fantastic rod, very sensitive and pretty light
I'm suggesting some high visibility tape positioned at various point on your rods, I wouldn't limit myself to color brand when there's ways around it. Find the colors you can see better on the palette and match some shades you are able to focus on easier
He also didn't ask for personal opinions on the color of rods. He asked for suggestions to help him narrow down a field of choices for his needs. You could have not replied, that's just as easy. Show a little compassion for someone who loves the sport but faces a challenge that you or I may have no idea how difficult it is to deal with.On 6/9/2013 at 12:45 PM, SirSnookalot said:The original post in this thread makes no mention of being color or legally blind.

In the original post he clearly says he like the veritas because its easier to see against dark backgrounds. Then he asked about other colored rods. I didnt read any of his previous post but when I read the first post I understood it as he wants a bright rod because its easier to see.
Hey guys, it's all "good in the hood"! We're all here for the same reason, gain knowledge and share our experiences. Brag about the big one we snagged up out of the depths.
Thanks to all who have made mention of some of the rods around, I'm def. going to look into them.
Has anyone got their hands on one of the BPS Bionic Blade XPS. Talking about this one: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Bionic-Blade-XPS-Micro-Guide-Trigger-Rods/product/1209290947195/
For $60 BPS XPS vs. $99 for a Vertias, $89 for the Skeet Reese, $149 for the Duckett's... and someone mentioned the red Dawai... any thoughts on those comparisons?
To my knowledge those bionic blades only come with micro guides depending on your preference that may be a deal breaker. Seem like great rods for the price there for you can upgrade multiple setups at once on a budget.
From an aesthetics standpoint, I have no problem with any color rod. I only have one "loud" yellow colored rod. My son has a white rod. There are a couple of problems. First of all, in very clear water, I would be worried. Many of the worst creatures in nature have some yellow. I think it could send an alarm. I don't fish clear water, so it's not an issue.
My primary issue with loud (white/yellow/orange) etc. is that in open water, people can see how you are working your rod. If you catch a good one and are pumping your rod, they know it's a creature bait. If you are holding it steady, a moving lure. Dark rods blend in and it is hard to see what folks are doing.

Theres a you tube channel from a interesting English angler. Its called The Totally Awesome Fishing Show. Search the tube for it or TAFishing. He has lots of economic common sense tips. In his Beginners Guide to Beach Fishing he shows his rods that he spray paints white from the tip down about 3 guides. He does it for night fishing when he has a lantern backlighting him. Im sure you could find this with a roll of painters blue tape would solve your problem at least for the immediate short term. Good luck, Im suffering some vision troubles myself due to age and affects from my chosen career. I'm praying for you and hope you find success.
To enhance and improve your fishing success you might have more options with fewer sacrifices or compromises by finding a hi-vis line rather than colored rod.
If you are watching the rod for movement to indicate a bass strike you are missing nearly every strike. On 6/8/2013 at 9:13 AM, coots said:So while I was looking at the Veritss rod I realized... I can see this rod against the background (trees, boat, water) easier. So that got me looking around.

If you like the look of a brighter color rod or help see the rod, then go it, W&M Skeet Reese Honeycomb series is bright yellow, Shimano makes a white rod.
My choice is low light reflection and dull muted colors like dark gray for bass fishing. Bright rod colors and shinny light reflecting finish, bright guides bothers my eyes at the end of the day because I am watching and feeling the line very closely.

Lamiglas has an Excel series that is orange.
