Lyn cheap line- Anybody tried it? 2025

fishing user avatarBigBass'n_Harrison reply :

Ok so about a week ago now I was watching a Milliken Fishing video and the video was sponsored by a new brand on line called well... Lyn. It’s pretty cheap line ($13 for fluoro I think) but he couldn’t say enough good things about and I’m curious if anyone else has tried it. I know I should take what he said about it with a grain of salt (maybe a spoonful lol) since the video was sponsored, but I’m still curious because I’m on a budget and don’t want to spend $30 on fluoro unless I have to.

If anybody can give any input in the line please do! In particular, the fluoro.

Thanks,
Harrison

It amazes me that the main thing between a fish (possibly a GIANT trophy) and landing that fish is the line and it is often the most common "how about this cheap stuff" question.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

A price per spool of FC line does add up. Imagine some use 100-200 setup and spend 30-40 bucks for 200yds spool of FC line.

I agree on the thing between you and that trophy fish is line, but as well as hook, smooth drag and playing the fish.

Some can catch big fish on 6-8lb while other have problem breaking off with 10-12lb line.

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Well, not everyone wants to drop $30+ on 200 yds of line. I'm included in this camp and I'm a tournament guy, so I know how important it is to have quality line. I also know that you don't have to drop the coin on Tatsu to get good fluoro.  If there are decent options out there for $13 a spool, I wouldn't mind knowing about them.

Two Words ~ Bulk Spools

https://www.amazon.com/Seaguar-1000-Yards-Fluorocarbon-Fishing-15-Pound/dp/B0094FLO1G/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=tatsu&qid=1571943533&sr=8-4

And that's $80 LESS than TW.

Read that again.

Just be careful too - my Yo-Zuri is $2 more for a 600yd spool on Amazon than it is from TW.

i think i spent less than 10 bucks on this spool from Amazon, and I bet you I can catch as many or as big to the guy next to me, giving that I’m not too lazy to re-tie my knot.

Thank You for the heads up -

I'll admit to being a total geek on line shopper - I use an app called 'honey'.

It's a shopping assistant & price comparison tool that is very helpful.

Copolymer mono not FC line.

what dia is 6 lb?

Tom

TW has Black Friday sales coming up.

Sunline is a good brand name and the Assasin FC is $42 for 660 yds or .06 per yard on sale $34 or .05 per yard. Seagaur Red Label is at similar price points.

Why risk using something unknown?

Tom

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

@WRBI know it is not FC line, it just to show @A-Jaythat I bought a cheap bulk spool as well lol.

This line is bigger than 6lb red label .007 but smaller than 6lb vanish line .009. My 4lb line Izor line is as big as 6lb red label. I didn’t actually order this line, I ordered 4lb line for crappie but Amazon shipped me the wrong one. Now two of my bass setup using this line and I have no problem with it.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Never bought a 3,000 yd spool, to me that is tackle shop size!

As you may recall I use 5 lb (.008D) Maxima Ultra Green Copoly line for finesse bass fishing, very high knot and abrasion strength, but not inexpensive line.

Just curious about the line.

Tom

Nice Job on the 4 & lb test ~

The quarry I seek often requires a little more in the way of line strength.

YMMV

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

@A-Jayyour situation always phenomenal can’t compare to anyone here.

The problem is a lot of news and old which mostly bank fish, or not a lot of those big bass, not deep structures fishing just a small pond with not a lot of structures on bottom just some weed. I don’t really see the need or high strength, high abrasive resistance or high knot strength.

I said base on how I fish and where I fish, which is not a lot of cover, just some rock and rip rap. Do I lost fish, yes you bet but that is part of the game.

I don’t think I need such too expensive line for this, do i? Lol

fishing user avatarJediAmoeba reply :

The one thing about Milliken is, this is job.  He will promote one thing and a few weeks later bash it...i.e. kastking reels.  He is doing this for a living and gets products and kickbacks by promoting it.  He is doing a big service to 6th Sense lures.(deservedly IMO)

Have you used that Voltage yet? Hopefully the stuff you got will be better than when I tried it.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

Yeah I did try on a couple reels but mostly as leader to my 10lb braid. It is pretty good strong knot, and reasonable abrasion resistance. The line is pretty weak if any nick, but that to be expected with such small line.

fishing user avatarNYWayfarer reply :

Buy the good stuff but shop around and buy it on sale. As a matter of fact when it goes on sale buy it in bulk. Fishing line and toilet paper bought in bulk will never go to waste, you are always going to use it.

If you are looking for good line at a good price, get Berkley Big Game. When I find a good, cheap fluorocarbon line I will let you know. I have a better chance of finding a Unicorn.

fishing user avatarBigBass'n_Harrison reply :

I totally forgot about this post lol

Thank you to everyone that responded... I guess I should just save up some money to drop on a bulk spool of some good fluoro, maybe for the Black Friday TW sale.

I'm not rich by any means, but if I'm going to drop my hard earned cash on rods, reels, and even lures there's no way I'm buying cheap line. I do my research and buy what I know I'll use and what will work for my waters. I've dabbled in various brands, but now everything I have is spooled with Tatsu or Smackdown.

I wish I could like this a thousand times.

I am going to try smackdown as soon as I run out of the 1800 yards or so of 832 I have lol.

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Phew, I'm glad I'm comfortable enough with my fishing ability to not have to rely on Tatsu.

I don't use Tatsu, but I know a number of the members here do and I am quite sure it isn't do to the lack of their fishing ability.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

Again if you have the buck for expensive FC line, kudos to you but don’t knock out cheap line. Remember fishing is just for fun, and loosing fish is part of the game. There are many cheap line that can work pretty good as long as you know what you are doing.

Now the real question is, if the OP really need FC, the price for cheap FC can get him a good copolymer or mono that could work as good if not better.

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Eh, when someone asks for recommendations/assistance on a cheaper fluoro because they're on a budget and the responses are largely to just buy, literally, the most expensive line on in the domestic market...I just don't think it's helpful to the OP.  I meant no offense to the BR Tatsu users but I guess I was a little bit snarky.

I tried this stuff when it came out in 12lb (I think) and it was not the best experience.  I like CXX from P-Line better.   Let us know how it works out.  Looks like you have plenty.

As far as cheap FC goes, if you find some line at the price point you want, I say go for it but for me I try to shot for that Goldilocks zone, where it does everything well at a good price (again this is totally subjective).

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Cheap line connoisseur here, and I can count how many times I've broken off this year on one hand.  That's not an exaggeration, that's not bragging, it's just the truth.  I've broken fish off twice this year, both times on 12# Berkley Big Game.  I fixed that problem by switching to the exact same thing, I had just let the line get a little old.

I use Kastking Superpower Braid for all my braided line needs, Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon for all my leader and mainline fluorocarbon needs, and Berkley Big Game for all my monofilament needs.

I remedy the casting distance being hindered by an often exaggerated amount of memory on the Berkley Vanish by spooling it correctly and applying KVD Line and Lure pretty liberally during spooling and every so often while fishing or after if I note memory.

I remedy the underestimated knot strength by tying an improved clinch knot on my finesse leaders, as I've found a Palomar often applies too much friction.  For the 14-17# vanish I use for worming and jigging, I tie a good old Palomar.

I remedy the breaking strength by setting my drag to 1/3rd of the rated breaking strength via a scale.

I've been doing all this stuff for two years, and it's worked well for me.  I've used more expensive braids as well as more expensive fluorocarbon, but nothing as nice as Tatsu and the like.
