Spinning reel around $60 2025

fishing user avatarthat_ryan_kid_7 reply :

Looking for a decent spinning reel  around  $60 for weightless senko fishing, going to be making short casts with 15lb braid. The things I'm looking for it to have is good reliable drag, a drag that can be finally tuned, and a somewhat lightweight reel, preferably a smaller reel because I will be making a short casts to the bank.

definitely the pflueger president

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

Yup.  Top choice is the reel already mentioned 3 times.

fishing user avatarYudo1 reply :

Another vote for the president.  At that price it's hard to beat.

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

President is a great reel, but right now there is a great Lew's for $80, about 40% off. It's a great reel, at a great price.

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

Pflueger President. They are $60 from Dicks and almost everywhere.  They are bulletproof. I have been running some for a decade. This past April my wife and I were fishing Ned Rigs on G Loomis 6 foot light action rods (721's) for smallies on Dale Hollow lake. She hooked and landed a 6.8 pound channel catfish. Now I loosened her drag a bit but she fought that fish for ten to fifteen minutes running from the front to the back of the boat,  She did land it and I weighed it.  I sat in the drivers seat laughing the whole time. The reels drag worked perfectly.

fishing user avatarPenguino reply :

Pluefger Supreme MG is pretty much a straight upgrade up the President. You can find it for around 60$ if you look hard enough. I got mine for around 50$ on clearance at DSG and it's still going strong after 50+ bass.

Is this the reel you are talking about?  If so...and you haven't bought from them more than twice...you can get the reel for $69.90.  Looks like one heckova deal.

You can get them online from this website too in new condition.

Nah, I'm talking about the previous Supreme MG. Its a bit cheaper but the new one looks to be a great reel to. Here's a picture of mine.

EDIT: The reel I'm talking about is the Supremem MGX. It was discontinued, which is why it can be found for so cheap, and it was replaced by the current day Supreme.

He also said to look around hard.  I don't see this model available at DSG so not an option.

fishing user avatarAllen Der reply :

cabelas had the President LE on sale for $55; of course i picked one up

fishing user avatarOnvacation reply :

Any of the Pfluegers that I've ever used have been excellent. Never had a need for 15 pound braid though on one if my goal was using light baits.

fishing user avatarChrisran99 reply :

I'm a Shimano fan when it comes to spinning reels. Check out the new model Sedona, just give you a few options.

fishing user avatarnameiztaken reply :

Take a look at a Pflueger, heard great things about them. From my experience I dont think a decent cardinal can be beat. I tried one last year and it was instantly my favorite spinning reel, too bad I forgot the model xD

Note: I have used a new Stradic 2500FJ that belongs to my friend for a little bit, and I'd take the cardinal I tried any day. not sure how the durability is since I only used them once or twice, but still, the cardinal put up a good fight (and won) against a $200 reel. Hard for me to say that as well due to the fact I have a thing for shimanos :P

fishing user avatarPennBass reply :

If you're not already sold on the pflueger, here's my experience:

I bought a president two years back as my first reel for bass fishing. Worked it hard, almost every day, fishing jigs, buzzbaits, crankbaits, soft plastics, basically everything on it and it handled like a champ. I was new to fishing though, and made the mistake of dunking it in water several times so it feels rater geary right now.

Essentially, the President is a great, versatile reel at an unbeatable price that I would recommend to anyone that listens

fishing user avatarfrosty reply :

Has anybody said the Pfleuger president yet? I would take advantage of the sale that was mentioned up thread and get the limited edition, the wife got me one for Father's Day, it's a really nice reel.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

I'm gonna mention one that doesn't get a lot of love around here....Pflueger President.

The only spinning reel I have in my arsenal.  I strung mine up with 8 lb Invisix Red and never looked back.  It has caught me a ton of big bass and has performed flawlessly.  Heck it's even been in the drink and shook it off like a champ.  Even if I wanted a more expensive reel, I see no reason to buy one.  They do what you ask them to do.

X2 Best value reel I have in my arsenal, and I've got a few....:shhhhh:

fishing user avatarFishes in trees reply :

You want to throw weightless senkos on a light braid/fluorocarbon leader combo.   I use a Shimano Spirex for that duty.  I like the 1000 size and I use an older Team Diawa Finesse Rod.    The particular virtues of the Spirex that I like are the rear drag ( which makes it simple to adjust the drag on the fly) and the bail trigger.  I know that many guys think that the bait trigger is kinda hokey, but it works and it makes pitching with a spinning rod very similar to pitching with a bait casting rod.  I still close the bail by hand - just a habit that I don't feel like I need to break.   Even though it is a smaller reel, the drag works fine.   My year old Spirex has caught fish up to 4 pounds so far and drag hasn't been an issue at all.   LIke I said I really like the convenience of the bail trigger and once you get used to it you will also.

fishing user avatarOCdockskipper reply :

X2 on the Spirex, only difference is I use them teamed with BPS carbonlite rods.  I also find that the shorter neck on the Spirex allows me to feather the cast with my index finger, increasing accuracy.

As for handling big fish, I have caught 2 bass over 7 lbs and 20 (or so) catfish over 10 lbs with them.  I use 8lb Nanofil on them with an 8lb P-line Fluorocarbon leader and the drag is very smooth.  The catfish drag my boat around for a few minutes & peel off line on their surges, but the Spirex performs well.

i love my older model of the cardinal, one of the best reels i own. only paid $35 for it. im not so sure about the newer models that came out a few years ago though, havent tried them...

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Not a fan of the Sahara (can be found for around $60) due to binding issues. I have heard the Symetre is pretty much the same though mine hasn't had that problem like my Sahara. My Sedona is a decent reel but fairly heavy for the money and after a few years isn't as smooth as it was early on. Not bashing Shimano as I am a huge fan, I just don't care for their budget stuff. Under $100 I would by a President or anything from Pflueger.

The only Shimano Spinning reels I would suggest would be the Saros and above which is far above your budget.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

President leaves the rest in the dust for $60. If you go a little higher I'd look hard at the Okuma RTX 25. I have a few Presidents but bought the Okuma this winter for $75 to fish a drop shot and it has been very impressive. It's a much lighter and faster reel than the President, which is why I got it instead of just buying another President.
