How many different rod/reel setups do you take with you when you go fishing and what do you use them for?? I'm trying to get an accurate idea of how many I might need to get, like one medium heavy for jigging/T-rigging, one rod especially for crankbaits, and so on...
I take anywhere between 3 and 5.
Here is what I have:
1. I got a 6'6" medium bass pro shops pro qualifier casting rod that I use for Texas rigs. Its one of my mainstays.
2. I got a 7' MH BPS Extreme rod that I use for jigs or carolina rigging. I usually always have this with me too.
3. I have a BPS Rick Clunn casting rod - 6'6" medium that I use for small cranks/finesse presentations. This one I take or leave (most often leave because even though its a worm/dropshot rod its about as limber as a willow branch) depending on how I am feeling. Its REALLY sensitive though so its good for throwing jigheads and things of that nature.
4. I have a 6' medium Quest rod that I use for top waters and spinner/buzz baits. Its a mainstay.
5. I have a 6' medium St. Croix Premier spinning rod that I use for just about anything but mostly its my senko rod. Its always with me.
I used to have a few others but I sold them.
I am due for a serious tackle overhaul though. I just want some new stuff and with winter on its way, I will probably go crazy and buy all new rods and reels .
when im in the back of the boat... which is always... take four rods.
6'6 medium heavy/ quantum kvd 7.0--for all things moving.
6'6 medium glass/abu garcia black maxx round 5.4-- for cranks and sometimes shallow/light texas rig
7' medium heavy/ diawa 100h lefthanded 6.2-- for all things crawling.
7' medium/light/ quantum incyte spinning-- for dropshotting and senko type things.
15lb yozuri hybrid on everything except the spinninig reel, which has trilene xl 8lb. on it right now..... but its about to get yo zuri 10lb ultra soft.

Dude, I do the same thing when it comes to winter. I go crazy and start hitting the stores looking for new stuff or old stuff I just never got yet and would like to get (those are mostly lures).
I do most of my spending BY FAR in the winter...buying crap is almost as addictive as fishing.
6...
1 for sure
usally i only use one,on account i only have two hands and can only hold one rod at a time .seriously though, when i do the co-ang thing just two. a 4000 and a 2500 Daiwa on a 6'6 med,and a 6'6 med lite. i use the 4000 for everything, i use the 2500 for small rapala types and senko stuff. and even though i am new at the co-ang thing,i havent yet regreted having more rods to use,my last tourny i used one rod the whole day, caught the same amount of fish as the boater.
Never enough.
1 for flipping.
2 for worms
1 for super fluke
1 for topwater rapala
1 for crank bait
1 for swimbait
That's usually it.
Shore fishing : 411
a few mroe if I am on the boat ;D
I bank fish and take 3 rods.......
Have a Calcutta/ Allstar Rod- Worm fishing
Just got a Revo Stx a week ago... and a nice friend of mine gave me a Team Daiwa V med. action rod- I use this for senkos, flukes, and spinnerbaits...
I take a spinning rod for drop-shot fishing, or for roostertails/panther martins.... It's a President 6740
I think 3 is plenty.... especially when bank fishing
3 would cover all techniques and one for lagniappe
Top water
Mid-depth
Bottom
And a back up
Usually not less than 5 or more than 10. Whats tied on depends on where I'm fishing, time of year, etc. Less rods if it's not a tourny, maybe 4 or 5 to keep the clutter down and the deck open.
When fishing from shore I take 3. One set-up for live bait fishing, one backup and one for fishing artificials (usually for wacky rigged Senkos)
4, 2 baitcasters and 2 spinning setups.
1 baitcaster for jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits
1 baitcaster for crankbaits, topwaters
1 spinning setup for soft plastics
1 spinning setup for everything else too small for my baitcast setups
I may try and add another baitcasting setup to have a dedicated jig setup and then one free for spinnerbaits/buzzbaits. I fish from shore so I'll take all of this and work it until I figure out what is working the best then I'll only carry the setup or two that are working the best.
I bank fish too, boat in the budget for spring. I carry 3....
Revo S/Fenwick HMG 6'6" MH for rigs, jigs heavier spinnerbaits and the like
Revo STX/St Croix Legend Tournament Drop Shot. Use this for little spinners (booyah pond magic, things like that). tubes, grubs, smallie lures, 1/8 oz jigs. Things that dont weigh a whole ton, its a 6'9" ML
And a 6' medium St Croix Avid/TD Advantage for stuff too light to throw effectively on a baitcaster
Oh, and roughly 50lbs of baits ;D in a softsided bag with a few extra plano boxes around as well. I generally fish close enough to the SUV that it is essentially my rod locker/storage
2 swimbait rods.
1 spinning rod for drop shotting, wacky rig, small jigs, etc
2 baitcasters. 1 for cranks, jerkbaits, etc and one for jigs, worms, small swimbaits,
Usually four rigs
1 for jigs
1 for light t-rigs
1 for spinners/cranks
1 for heavy t-rigs/c-rigs
Revo S/All-Star IM10 - plastics
Revo S/Falcon Lowrider - crankbaits
Exceler/All-Star ASR - cranks/swimbaits
KVD 5.1/Bionic Blade - spinnerbaits
ProMax/All-Star Instinct - buzzbaits
Every now and then I'll throw in a fairy wand if I'm gonna be drop-shotting or shooting docks and such.
All but the ProMax have 12lb fluoro. My tourney partner takes no less than 12 usually, though he only uses about 5 or 6 on a given trip. He uses nothing but Carrot Stix. The front deck is just a sea of orange.
No set number. Depends on where I'm fishing and how I'm fishing. Anywhere from 1 to 6.
Quote3 would cover all techniques and one for lagniappe
I had to look that word up ;D Learn somethin new everyday

Four hundred and eleven rods?
You carry around a few more than me. ;D ;D
I take 3-6, depending on where I'm going, who I'm going with, and what conditions I think I might find.
When I go to Trophy Country, I take "em all.

2 Jig
2 Worm
1 Senko
2 Topwater
1 Frog
It really depends on the season. Most are kept in the rod lockers and swapped out as needed
I FIND THAT WHEN I TAKE MORE THAN 3 I SPEND MORE TIME SWITCHING AROUND THAN I DO FISHING
1 JIG SETUP
1 T-RIGG SETUP
1 SWIMBAIT SETUP
I fish from shore, so I'm pretty limited to what I can tack with me. I like to bring 1 BC and Spinning rod.
Most of the time I'm have a spinner bait or frog on the BC, and 3/0 worm hook on the spinning.
5-6 in a boat
3-4 in canoe
main reason i like several rods is that i hate switching baits on the same rod.
3-5
1 MH Carrot stix for worms and jigs (Always)
1 Med/Fast St. Croix casting for spinnerbaits and traps (Always)
1 Med/Fast St. croix spinning for jerkbaits and topwater (sometimes)
1 Med/Ex Fast Crucial spinning dropshot rod for senkos and finesse fishing (always)
1 MH/MF Crucial crankbait rod (most of the time)
1-4
2 spin
2 BC
2 baitcast (Heavy and MH)
2 spinning (ML and M/F)
i rock 4 and wish i had more
but i only use 2 on the shore
I bank fish so i take 3.
1-12 depending. Shore/wading, I'll bring 1-3; fishing from my yak, 4-8; as a non boater in a tx., usually 4, in a rental or borrowed boat, 6-12.
I took 7 tonight:
4 crankbait setups (BDS 1, Moonsault cb100, RC2.5DD, and a trap)
1 spinnerbait
1 football jig
1 spinning rod rigged with a slider
I did not end up using my spinning rod, and used the spinnerbait only a couple of times. The deep crank (RC2.5DD) did not produce a fish the times I threw it. I did catch two fish on the trap, but mainly the jig and two shallow cranks dominated. Cranks should highlight your game plan when fish start to go into a fall pattern, with the football jig backing you up when the fish aren't chasing baitfish. The football jig worked in the heat of the day, and the shallow cranks worked as it went into the evening. The moonsault cleaned up when there was activity around me in open water, and the BDS 1 pulled a few fish hanging out by trees and stumps. No hogs tonight, but a few good fish on the jig (only a few bites), but the two shallow runners produced quite a few fish (4-5 keepers...7 or 8 dinks). I had a blast. Heading out again in the morning...
App. 12-15 combo's on my my main boat. When fishing out of my small boat or when I'm on a buddy's boat app. 5-6 combo's.

crank 2 medium
crank 3 deep
spinnerbait light
spinnerbait heavy
Heavy C-Rig
Light C-Rig

skip rig- tube on a jighead various light baits ect-
I usually carry 7 or 8 on the deck sometimes more prefishing
i have 1 spinning and 6 baitcasting will have 8 come next spring.... you could never have to many..... each rod n reel are for different applications ;D
Usually 3. For bass I bring the following I bring 2 BC and one spin, for inshore salt I usually bring 2 spin one BC
I usually carry six or seven depending on where I am fishing.
One rigged with a senko or Fat Ika
One with a texas rigged worm, lizard or tube
One with a spinner bait
one with a Buzz bait
A crank bait rod
A Jig rod
and a Spinning rod with either a Dropshot or splitshot rig
Sometimes I carry a fly rod for when the topwater bite is really on
because Im not a tourny fisherman I usually carry 3, somethimes 4
topwater, spinnerbait, worm and my dock skippen spinner.
Right now, I'm limited to just 3. I hope to have at least 6 by spring, and will try to continue adding.
1 Med-Hev BC that I fish my topwater stuff with. Sprofrog, spook, poppers, buzz baits, whatever.
1 Med BC that I fish mainly a jig or t-right with.
1 Med SR that I fish light stuff with. Sluggos, small suspending cranks, smaller spinner baits, unweighted plastics etc.
I'm still pretty new to fishing hard and am in college, so money is tight. I'm pretty sure though that I will end up being one of those guys with 10-15 in my boat at a time, because even with the 3 I have now, I'll find myself tying a half a dozen knots or more in an evening of fishing. That's wasted time I would love to get away from.
In my boat, 3 swimbaits combos and another 6-10.
In someone else's, 6 combos.
Boat:
1-top water or shallow crank
1-jig
1-t-rig or c-rig plastic
1-medium crank
1-deep crank
Shore:
1-spook or shallow crank
1-soft plastic/frog
Always have the following for summer fishing
1- Jig rod
1- Drop Shot rod
1- Top Water rod
1- Carolina/Texas rig rod
1- Tube/Grub rod
1- Medium-Heavy Spinning rod for anything else
Then whatever else I bring for the paticular body of water.
