Duckett Ghost or Dobyns Fury 2025

fishing user avatarBuffdaddy54 reply :

Very shortly I'm going to be pulling the trigger on a new casting rod. It has come down to the Duckett Ghost or the Dobyns Fury and cannot decide which. I'm ever so slightly leaning towards the ghost only because I'm not a big fan of the color on the Fury.

Any thoughts??

fishing user avatarRuss E reply :

Color is the least important thing I consider in a rod. Bass don't care what color it is.

I own 2 fury rods. both are good quality for a budget rod.

here are a few threads on the subject. looks like dobyns may be the benchmark to judge rods.

I rather have duckett. Don’t listen to the haters. Duckett is gonna give you a lot of sensitivity for the price and very strong rods I’ve boat flipped, not high sticked,5 pounders on a duckett ghost. A lot of hate tords micro guides theses days but in reality most Rods now a days have semi micro guides on them they just don’t advertise them much because of the slack micro guides get.

Have you actually used a dobyns fury to compare the two? Not even a competition imo. Dobyns Fury all the way. And yes I have used both. Duckett's track record of selling junk doesn't lie.

fishing user avatarBoogey Man reply :

I've not used a Ghost, but if you're using the rod for tip down presentations, the Fury will be ok. From handling the Ghost rods in the store, I'd get the Ghost for tip up presentations. If you're planning on using it for worms, jigs, or presentations that require sensitivity, the Fury is about average for similarly priced rods. I have the Fury 663C.

I get where you are coming from but not everyone feels that way. No way I am putting a red reel on a green rod or an orange reel on neon green rod, etc.

When purchasing a rod, I think about what reel I am going to use with it and if colors clash it plays a part in my decision.

They make the Ghost XL for the micro guide haters.

No I believe you bro but the statement that ducketts is junk doesn’t ring true to me from my personal experience, dobyns fury is a good rod for 110 bucks it’s a good all around type rod spinnerbaits chatter baits square bills and even t rigs but sensitivity is not it’s greatest  attribute.

fishing user avatarJoshFromBolo reply :

Dobyns fury all the way, I have 3 of them, 1 for frogging, 1 for crankbaits and the other a versatile set up. Great rod, I find the tip very sensitive and I feel every little thing. For the 100 dollar range, this is the best rod you can get. As far as you not liking the color, mabye you can wrap the rod or something on those lines?

I guess it just depends on your definition of sensitive. I find the fury to be plenty sensitive, above-average for the price I would say. You referenced Mikey ballz last time, well check out what he uses to throw Ned Rigs and dragging baits way out deep in 30-plus fow. Detecting bites that deep ain't easy, and he uses some furys for that.

I think the price went up to $119, or at least that’s what they’re at on Tackle Warehouse. I got mine for about 85 bucks a while back. When I got mine, i did a a little test for sensitivity. I tied a 3/8 ounce jig on the Fury, a BPS Carbonlite (one of the older black models) and a Powell Inferno. Using the same line on each one, with a long cast down my asphalt driveway and dragging the jig back, sensitivity was pretty much equal with each rod. The Powell was probably the most sensitive of the 3. Unscientific I know lol.

I believe it for sure , not gonna argue with that.

fishing user avatarChris186 reply :

I really like the Duckett Rods, however I have broken 2 and I’m afraid to buy anymore because of it. One was a ghost 7’3 heavy, the other a micro magic cranking rod. I had a white ice and didn’t like it, I only have one Duckett left and it’s another cranking micro magic. I have a friend who loves the fury series, but I have never used them.

fishing user avatarAC870 reply :

There are some pretty good deals around on Ducketts if you look. I think you can find one of the Duckett models a little higher up the chain than the Ghost for $100. Shelton’s in Moulton Ala. runs some good deals and ships fast. I’ve also bought their stuff at auction on eBay. I got a Duckett Terex for $55 plus $20 shipping in August.

fishing user avatarJoshua van Wyk reply :

I've never used a Ducket, but I can say the Dobyns Fury is a hell of a rod for $110.

fishing user avatarFryDog62 reply :

Check out Duckett Triad, better guides than the Ghost...

I have a fury and put a shimano reel on it. The reel has a red spool and red accents. It drives me nuts with the green.

In a good way or a bad way?

to each their own.

I have 2 fury's with revos on both. the revos have red accents.

they balance well together and are comfortable to use all day.

could care less if the colors clash, they are my favorite combos.

I don’t get caught up in colors but something about a white rod is offputting to me

It bothered me in a bad way at first but I love the combo so the colors don't phase me as much now.

I'm sure by now Buffdaddy has already gotten a rod of his choice. So for anyone else who may google topic on Ghost crancking rods. I just purchased one 7ft Med. due to liking the 7'3" MH. Have 3 of those. All I can say with one outing with the cranking rod is that it will sling a 1.0 and 1.5 a long ways. Great feel with the bait. I actually contacted the seller to see if he had more at the $70.00 price point.

He does not. wish he did. May have to pay a few more dollars. But plan on getting another. Not saying its the best out there. But for the price point. Don't think you can go wrong with this rod for this size crankbaits.

Interesting that you would have narrowed it down to these 2 rods, they fish very differently. I would go with the Dobyns, the Incredible Hulk graphics are growing on me. I think there is a reason why the ghosts are half priced, but even at full price it's a decent rod. Either way neither is a lot of $, and will do the job.

eBay has them at $75 (price + shipping) or 2 rods for $140 (price + shipping).  I am not 100% sure, but someone told me they were being discontinued.

I used to feel the same way but I have gotten used to it.  It is also a big plus if you ever knock one overboard in shallow enough water where you can still see where it hit because that white really stands out....don't ask me how i know that though lol
