How many rods? 2024

fishing user avatarTexasfishingtips reply :

How many rods do you like to carry with you while fishing?

Clancy W

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

4 to 6 when in the boat. On shore, I'll have from 3 to 6 in the car, and of those will have 2 with me (one in my hand, one in my belt behind my back) while working the bank.

fishing user avatarJigMe reply :

Usually I will take three rods with me, and depends on condition I'll rig them with different lures.

fishing user avatarbassfisherjk reply :

I only take 3 rods on the boat.

fishing user avatarbass or bass ? reply :

I take 8 rods on my boat. 3 bait cast, 3 spinning, and 2 fly cast. All different weight/action in each class. And I use them all, not just there for eye candy.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

6-9 in the boat, 4-6 on the deck.

fishing user avatarSenkoman12 reply :

1-2 while shore fishing, 3 while just fishing and 6 during a tournament

fishing user avatarTexasfishingtips reply :

I like 5-7 in the boat. I fish as a co-angler so not as much room. If i'm beating the bank, normaly 1 of my "everything" rods. If I'm using two diffrent techniques (EX- Frogs and Shakeyheads) then ill strap whichever rod I'm not using onto my backpack.

Same here, 5-6 because I am a co-angler...  I will take 1-3 with me if I am bank fishing.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

I always have at least 20 rods in the boat when I'm fishing.

fishing user avatarHamby reply :

Small boat and an extremely tight budget means that i carry no more than 4 or 5 rods. 3 baitcasters rigged with something different. 1-2 spinning rods. 1 for skipping, and the other for really small/lightweight stuff.

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

I shore fish almost exclusively and it's a hassle to carry more than three rods, so I went 1-3.

X2 anwhere between 20-25

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

5's all that will fit. After a boat upgrade it will go up to 8/9.

fishing user avatarbwillis reply :

I usually carry 2-3 with me when shore fishing, which I do a lot more than taking my jon boat out.  When I take the boat out, I usually bring 3-6 rods with me.

fishing user avatarMNGeorge reply :

Have space for 8 in the boat...4 for me, 4 for my partner, except my wife who has only 3 rods, then I get 5.  If I'm fishing by myself, 6 or 7.  Shore fishing is always only 1 rod.

fishing user avatarLund Explorer reply :

I usually start each day with 7-8 rods rigged and ready to go, 4-5 BC & 3 Spinning.  There's always 4-5 more in the rod locker that are backups.

BC's include: Topwater, Crankbait, Spinnerbait, Heavy T-Rig, and Pig-n-Jig.

Spinning: Medium/Light T-Rig, Dropshot, Tube/Grub.

fishing user avatarjdw174 reply :

I carry 7 BC's and 3 spinning, all in rod lockers.  Most of the levelwind outfits could do double duty, but I find it easier to grab another rod than to re-rig one while I'm fishing.  The spinning outfits are used for dropshot, shakeyhead, and the last for skipping senkos.

fishing user avatarRandySBreth reply :

Depends. On "the big boat" the rod locker could have 15-18 rods in there, mostly spinning but 4 or 5 casting.

In the tandem canoe for pond Bass when I'm lucky to have someone play trolling motor for for me (paddle me around) it's usually 2 fly rod combo's.

In the solo canoe it's 4- to 6- one is always a spinnerbait casting rigs, then the other ones come and go as the seasons change.

Walking/wading local Smallmouth creeks is usually just my favorite 6-weight fly rod.

Hard for me to answer with just one response!

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

1-3

fishing user avatarRed reply :

I have 7 combos total.  I can take all of them in my Pelican Raider, but they don't all fit "comfortably."  Normally I only bring four, I just choose the four I think I will most likely use depending on season/weather.  Of those four I usually only end up using 1 or 2 of them. ;D

fishing user avatarNick reply :

My big Gambler 9-12 for a tourney.

My river jet 3

As a guest or co-angler 3-4.

fishing user avatarlsbass reply :

5-6 out of my jon boat (4-5 baitcasting 1-2 spinning)

9 in team tournaments (6-7 baitcasting 2-3 spinning)

6 as co angler (4 baitcasting 2 spinning)

I personally have 6 rods.I have a spinnerbait/crankbait rod,a topwater rod, a spinning set up, a frogging rod, a flippin/pitchin stick, and a jig/everything else rod. We have around 14 to 16 together in the boat

fishing user avatarcbfishalot reply :

20+

fishing user avatarCSimon2 reply :

I keep between 5-7 rods ready to go in the Jeep.  When I am actually out fishing, I take only one or two with me.  I fish mostly from shore,  so I can easily go back to the car and grab more if needed.

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

I usually take app 12-15 in my boat, it varies depending on time of year and type of lake I'm fishing. I normally have app 20 rod/ reel combos to pick from but usually leave a few behind.

Same here. I usually carry 2 b/c rigs and 1 spinning rig.

I usually have a couple of rigs stowed in my truck for backup.

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

4-5 when as a co-angler

1or 2 when from the bank

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

I have tried to limit the number of rods I carry and right now I take seven. However, I always wish I had more.  It's just handier than cutting and retying when I want to switch lures.  I suspect there will be more in my future.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

My boat doesn't have a rod locker and I'm so bad about stepping on them, I will only carry 4 or five of the 2 dozen or so that I have. I choose them based on fishing conditions that I expect.

Ronnie

fishing user avatarEvans reply :

WAY TOO MANY! I usually carry 15+, but my boat is a Blazer 180 so only 1 rod locker. However, the stick jackets have really worked for me to keep them from tangling. I broke a rod 2 years ago trying to get it out of the rod locker, haven't had a problem since I got stick jackets for all of them.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

I'll generally take four or five rods out of the bunch I have.

1 Frog/Flippin

1 Crank

1 Bottom Contact

1 Pitchin/Bottom Contact

1 Spinning

If I know that I'm going to be concentrating on a specific technique, I'll adjust the numbers and the types of rods I'm bringing.

gloomis cbr 783 for shallow cranks

jb custom super shot for drop shotting

shimano cumara for shakey head or light baits.

fishing user avatarnorthern basser reply :

Best case scenario:

5 casting

2 spinning

less if boat or # of people is restrictive

fishing user avatarHot Rod reply :

I pulled into the dock one afternoon with my customary dozen or so rods sprawled on the deck (probably had a few left in the lockers too).

A guy standing on the dock said, "Dang, don't you think you have too many rods?"

I responded, "I didn't know there was such a thing as 'too many rods'.  That'd about be like having too much money wouldn't it?!"

fishing user avatarbassinbrian reply :

As of this winters new rod purchases ill have 8 if im by myself fishing but less depending on how many the other person in the boat has.  I dont have a fancy boat so I dont have room to store any so they all have to lay out some where in the boat.

fishing user avatarcentral.PA.bass reply :

probably around 10 when my fiancee is with me..  she usually has 3 or so..

fishing user avatarIneedanewscreenname20170204 reply :

4 baitcasters, 2 spinning = 6.  That's all I can manage in my boat with no locker.  If I'm fishing with a partner I'll scale back a bit to 3 BC, 1 spin to make room.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

3 to 6?

I lost count at 30!!!  ;)

Sam - the question was: "How many rods do you like to carry with you while fishing?"

So, do you tow a "rod barge" behind your boat? ;D

fishing user avatarDTack reply :

6-10 on deck, may carry more in the boat.  As a co-angler I don't go over 5.

fishing user avatarKWM reply :

I got 2, I bank fish so the spining is my shaky pole, and my BC is everything else pole.

Sure thing, Sam!  Just PM me your credit card info and I'll stimulate away.  I've got the itch to buy a few more Dobyns rods.  Thanks buddy!  Look forward to spending your hard earned money.    8-)

If I'm fishing a tournament and I only have 1 or 2 out it should be a great day.
