New V. Old Curado 2025

fishing user avatarBMayer3 reply :

I have a few local tackle shops around me that are selling the old model Curado for 139.99. Seeing that the new Curado's are going for 180, just want to get opinions on if the new are worth the extra money or if its not worth it to spend the extra 40 dollars.

Thanks for any input.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

"old" Curado says nothing, B series, D series, E series, G series; all "old" and the difference between a B series and a G series by comparison is like comparing a Sopwith Camel to a F-25 Eagle. Which "old" Curado ?

fishing user avatarBMayer3 reply :

The "G" series

that reel(G series) is not worth its 139 price tag when you can get the new I series for 179. The G series was on clearance a while back for 99$ and under. I just the new 201HG for 159 at a tackle shop on the river. It's one heck of a reel.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Buy the Curado I ... You will get more than you're money's worth.... If the G were 99$ I would still say get the I....

fishing user avatarCJV reply :

I would suggest the curado I heck of a reel for $180

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

Get the Curado i, the Curado i, or the Curado i. Any of those three will be a good choice.

Don't forget the Curado I, it's a heck of a reel!
fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I have the Curado G and it is good work horse reel.  I only paid $80 for mine.  But with the price you stated above, I would buy the Curado I.

fishing user avatarComfortably Numb reply :

I like my old greenie Bantums LOL

fishing user avatarBMayer3 reply :

I was always leaning towards the new "I", just wanted to get some input from you guys. I got a new daiwa tatula in a 7.3 gear ratio about a month or two ago and I love that reel but I have always been a shimano guy and the new curado in a low gear ratio is what I've been looking at for a while now.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

I wish they would come out with a 5.0:1 ratio for the new I instead of the 5.5:1. I just feel that slower is better for deep cranks and slow rolling spinnerbaits.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

Check BPS, they may have some Gs for $99.

I agree, something in the low 5's is what I'd really want but the 5.5 is still good.

Just to fill a hole in my head, I wish Shimano would come back out with a reel like this (gear ratio wise), slow and easy..... This reel is not mine by the way. I just like this pic.

Ok, probably folks already talked about this somewhere in this forum, but who can give me first hand 'on the water' comparison report between E and I and tell me why Curado I is worth spending $180 despite the boring silver color? :)

I'm not in the market at the moment but I might be at the end of the year. So I just want to here from trusted source. Just give you idea about me, I'm satisfied with E, G and Tatula. All good enough for me.

My 201e was 179...and i love it

cant wait ti get my hands on an I series. Only problem is igot CI4 chronarch lol

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Well.... I like the Silver! Lol.... There are several improvements in the I model.... It's a completely new platform and borrows a lot from top shelf Shimano Reels, of course not much wrong with the Chronarch E, except it's name, and that color scheme! Lol... Plus graphite Drag star? Geez... I got a chron 50 & curado 51 and I like them. But the I ? Blows them away, so far, so good.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

The new braking system and x ship make it worth the money to me. That said, if I could find a high gear curado G for 99 I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

fishing user avatarLoop_Dad reply :

Thanks for responding, but three folks above so far, none of you had first hand experience with both 200E and 200I, did I read it right? (maybe Aloneranking2 has Chronarch E to compare?) I think lots of folks says I is good because everybody else says I is good, or has lots of features, but not based on personal experience. It was like that when Tatula came out. Don't get me wrong, I'm considering 200I myself, but I want to know how good and in what way from unbiased trusted BR sources.

I used to own a Citica E which from what Ive read performed as good as the Curado 200E except with light weights. Id still get the Curado I all day long. I fish from shore so the extra casting distance is great. I have a few high end reels and I say go and pull the trigger on one, you wont regret it. Performance on par with the much more expensive Metanium.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Yes, spend the extra $$$

Don't fill your spool up all the way. Instant decrease in IPT.

It's funny you mention the tatula. The last 2 reels I've purchased have been the tatula about 2 months ago and now the curado I on Wednesday. I could not be more happy with my two decisions, so far both reels have been outstanding and are exceeding all expectations I had going into using them.
