What are some smooth braids ? 2025

Daiwa j braid x8, I’m not sure about Berkley x9 or if you considered Gliss Line as braid. The gliss line is even smoother than J-braid.

Tuf-line Domin8 is some I tried that was slick and stayed round relative to PowerPro. I think it cost a couple dollars more and it's hard to come by (even at BPS or Cabelas), so I decided I didn't really need smooth so I've only tried the one spool.

I don't use much braid. Haven't used this braid in quite awhile because the rod the reel is on seldom gets used in this area. I seem to remember it as being pretty smooth. Daiwa Samurai.

Any 8, or now 9, carrier braid is going to be pretty smooth. Pick your favorite brand and have at it.

First I heard of this stuff . Its intriguing . Think it would work well with frogs and Toads ?

Gliss was a hot topic on this site a couple of years back. I liked it but it seemed to fray bad after some use so I only bought one spool. Has it improved any in regards to the fraying? The casting was very good and smooth.

Nope no way, the line would frayed out super easy.

I have daiwa j-braid on my frog rod, so I don’t get bother by the sound of PP running thru guides.

Its not that . I had a spool of spectra braid when it first came on the market .It was pretty rough and sliced my index finger deep , several times . Havent used any since . I missed a lot of fish this year with toads so I'm going to give braid a go again , just have to get in the habit of holding the rod differently . I think smooth would be less likely to slice flesh .

FINS original PRT is polyuerathane coated and smooth quite casting braid.

I got cut with braid so many times. Most of the time when try to free the lures from snag, even with this J-braid or 832 (arrow method). I think I only got cut once when set hook with my index finger touching the line.

Bring some 1” dowel with you anytime fishing with braid.

Fireline is very smooth.

When you go with the bigger size braids you use for frogs(50-65# test) it usually isn't a problem in regards to slicing your finger under normal applications. I usually use suffix 832, Power Pro Super Slick or Daiwa J Braid.

Gliss and nonofil are the smoothest I've ever seen, but I don't use them because tying a FG knot with these lines

is a pain in the ass.

Pline TCB8, PP SSV2, Sunline Xplasma and Seaguar smackdown are the braids I use most with excellent success.

I haven't had any problems, so far, with fraying.

My favorite braid is Hitena Pure Line, very small diameter for its pound test, never any problems of any kind. A little pricey but lasts and lasts (also can have its life extended by reversing it). I use 21 pound test, which casts like other 15's I've tried. I first bought it for a fool-proof bonefish line that would be strong enough yet small enough to allow a lot on the reel. Perfect. I use Hitena fly tippet for the leader, seems to have fine knot strength. Smooth is not a priority of mine, but I don't remember noise from it.

I used Diawa Samurai for years a long time ago. When I got back into fishing I spooled up with Seaguar Smackdown stealth grey. Pretty happy with it so far.

I remember when Samuari braid came out because the local tournament anglers were all toting it so I tried 15 lb on a spinning reel.

Samuari was extremely soft and smooth braid and 15 lb was .007D. The line bleed green dye all over mt reel and hands the first few hours and a happy camper.

Samuari is so soft and flexible strike detection was difficult unless all the slack was taken up, hard to do in the wind.

After a few trips I gave up on braid with a leader for finesse fishing.

IIRC the last spool of Samurai I bought was in 2008, 30lb..never had any bleeding or bad fading, it did fade some, but not much.
