I have looked on ebay before and they have reels that usually cost a lot that coat very little like a quantum exo for $99 has anyone had expierence with reels off ebay are they reliable
That's hard to answer. I've had good luck and bad. Check the sellers feedback and buy from a reputable seller.
Be aware that even if you buy a new reel on ebay doesn't mean it's still under factory warranty. I read on another forum where bantam 1 said none of the shimano reels sold on ebay are covered under the factory warranty, even if they are new.
I've never had a problem but I generally buy new reels off of Ebay. Make sure the seller has good feedback and posts plenty of pictures of the reel. Ask them questions if you have any and if it doesn't seem right, don't do it. If you go with a reputable seller and can see decent pictures, you should be ok. Also, make sure they accept returns.
As long as their feedback is positive and they have some sales under their belt. You really have nothing to worry about. You are covered by PayPal and can get a refund if it really comes to that. PayPal always sides with the buyer. I've gotten screwed over a few times because of this. I've been buying and selling on eBay for over 10 years. Anything from a $4 rocker switch up to a yz250. I get most of my reels off there. Never had an issue. Weather it be new, used, the U.S. or Japan.
I have purchased several new and used reels from eBay, just make sure to never send money as a gift, ask for tracking numbers, and check seller feedback. If you do your homework it is a good place to do safe business.
All good advice. I've never had an issue but I almost always buy new and make sure it's from someone with a good history. If a deal seems too good to be true, it is.
I've purchased several rods and reels through ebay. Never had an issue. In fact, I have a Quantum EXO spinning reel coming in for my cousin. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller. If the price of the item is dramatically lower the the competitions, then thats a red flag.
I have had some outstanding deals from the auction site. Is to good to be true a 700 dollare reel for 305? The part about the reputable seller is gold. I find a lot of my stuff from the same people. Simmions sporting goods has had some real deals that i could never beat again. Rod shipping is another animal. I have had some bad issues with bad handling on rods from the shipping companies. That should be of little supprise to most.
Most of the places that I buy from are smaller tackle shops that utilize Ebay ...They generally have decent prices and free shipping ....
Never had an issue, either new or used. Know what your buying, and pay with paypal and it's all good.
In the last year, I have purchased two new Lew's reels at 25% below MSRP and two new Daiwa reels at 38% below MSRP from eBay sellers. They were both reputable sellers with LOTS of positive feedback. I figure if a seller has feedback numbers in the thousands and a 99% or better approval rating, it's a safe deal. So far, it has been...

From "THE BAY", I have bought fishing reels, tools, old magazines, books, dvd's, cd's.
I am probably forgetting a few things. I always check out the sellers. I have never gotten less than I paid for.
Better in some cases, especially with old collector books. Have several that were listed in good, or
acceptable condition. After receiving them, I would have listed them in "excellent" condition. As the farmer
said, "know what you are buying", check your seller, and you should be fine.

That pretty much sums up my eBay experience.
I know a guy who does a lot of selling on eBay; it's kind of a second business for him. He told me that once you get to a certain level of sales, eBay puts pressure on the sellers to do all the right things in order to maintain their product placement, commission rates, etc.
To those big sellers, one unhappy customer could have a large negative effect, and they seem to go way out of their way to be sure everyone is happy. If you're leery about buying on eBay, buy from a "power seller" with over 99% feedback and you have very little chance of being disappointed.

Just agreeing with everything above. I buy everything through PayPal and have never had a single issue.
It's not the reels I need to trust, it's the users that sell them.
Read the feedback and buy from seasoned sellers.

Concerning reels, I will say I never knowingly buy used. I won't buy anything mechanical, used. I won't buy a used car. I don't trust what someone else may have used it for. Just a quirk of mine. I no doubt have passed up some good deals because of this. Just the way I'm wired.

I've purchased a lot of stuff from e-bay including fishing gear, only once I had a problem with a seller and I got my money back, pretty fast I must say once I started the claim. I do have to mention that be careful when you check the reputation, 100 % positive doesn't mean 100% reliable, 95-100% positive with dizens of transactions is 100% where you want to purchase.
not to be a broken record.. but once again, just check the seller feedback/reviews and always use paypal!
The only thing I can add to this is that ebay is a good place to find those sneaky good reels. The popular reels always have long bidding wars, to the point of going above the "Buy it Now" price. But, if you know from experience that a certain underated reel is good, you can get some reel deals! (pun intended) Example: A Pflueger Trion baitcasting reel is a silkly smooth performer and I have picked up several for under $40.
I bought an exo off ebay new without box in December for $75 and was a little skeptical but when I got it, it was actually new. It didn't have scratches or anything and I took it apart and it still had the factory lube. I have bought quite a few reels off ebay and have been perfectly happy with each one.
Like everybody said, use the tools available like feedback rating ect..even if somebody has a poor rating it may not be that they are a bad seller. Go see what they got a neg for and see if that reason raises any red flags. Look over the pics well and try to have a good eye for detail. Some times you buy stuff from people who know less about what they are selling than you. hard to write up a good description if you are simply a re-seller with no real knowledge of the item. The description can usually clue you in to what they know. And hopefully if they know very little they admit as much. As they say, a picture can be worth a 1000 words. Study the pics closely. If the reel is used and the seller is using generic photos that is never good. You want to see what you're buying. Heck, generic photos bother me even if new. Let me see what I am buying. Read the description carefully. And ask questions if need be to get any concerns cleared up. Good communication is among your most important tools with ebay.
For the most part you are protected. Ebay has their policy set up for strong buyer protection. If you get an item that is anything less than what was pictured or described than begin the refund process through ebays resolution system.
I buy/sell on ebay daily and have done so from the beginning. You can find absolute steals on ebay. It is not perfect but you can find plenty of honest people to deal with on there.
ive picked up most of my lews reels, particularly the tournament pro for around $150 brand new, pretty much all the lews reels that ive bought have been about $50 cheaper than the retail price, and I haven't had any problems with the reels or the sellers at all, just like everyone says, find a reliable seller and use paypal. I almost always buy my lews off of ebay, mainly because I can get them about $50 off of retail brand new.
Just pay with PayPal. If they send you junk, send it back and get a refund.
Over the years I have bought a LARGE amount of baitcasters for very good prices from Ebay. I have never had any trouble with any of them at all.
The only thing I have had trouble with was when I bought an 8 camera security system off of Ebay that was listed as brand new with a DVR system and a 1Gig hard drive. When I received the Security system it was used and the night vision on the cameras did not work and the DVR only had a 250 Gig Hard drive. I only pay using Pay-Pal and after trying to return the item to the dealer with no luck I was refunded the entire amount of my purchase ($499.99) through Pay-Pal, they handled it very well.
I just bought 2 reels off ebay and both were as described new reels just no boxes. as stated check the seller.
If the reel has no scratches, has the box and paperwork and the seller has a good rating, it's good enough for me.
