Don't have to get into specifics, but just general, ie. light spinning outfit for finesse, etc.
Trying to achieve a versatile bare bones style.

crankbait rod
all purpose rod
Dobyns 734 Xtreme - Plastics
Dobyns 765 - Jigs / Frogs / Beavers
Dobyns 702 Spinning - Shaky Head / Drop Shot / Flukes
This is a fun subject. I usually bring three rods on my trips as a shorebound angler:
A: MH casting - Shimano Crucial - Jigs, Larger Trigs and baits
B: M casting - Lamiglas Competitor - All arounder from cranks to spinnerbaits to senkos and topwater. This rod can really do a lot.
C: ML spinning - Lamiglas Certified Pro - Drop Shot, Finesse, Near Ultralight.
For my area this pretty much covers the gamut for me.
St. Croix Avid AVS63MLXF - tubes, grubs, drop shot, shakey, 1/8 oz jigs
G Loomis SJR783S - ikas, senkos, worms, 1/4oz jigs
G Loomis MBR 783C - 1/2oz jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits

Exactly.
7' MH Action worming/jigging rod
7' L or ML spinning rod for finessing (shaky head, drop shot)
7' M action for cranks, spinnerbaits
For the lakes I fish, this setup would be ideal.
7' heavy/x-fast for jigs, c-rigs, frogs and maybe bigger spinnerbaits
7' medium/fast for t-rigs, smaller jigs, and all moving baits
6' mh/fast spinning rod for throwing unweighted plastics around docks

Ans: 3 Rods ;D

Since I don't use 3 rods I can't answer this.
KVD's Basic 3:
1. Start with a 6-foot, 10-inch, medium-heavy action baitcaster. That rod will handle most spinnerbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater plugs.
2. He also recommends we carry a 7-foot, medium action spinning rod with a high speed reel. That'll work for most finesse applications such as drop shotting, shaky heads and weightless worms.
3. A 7-foot, 2-inch heavy casting rod will round out the arsenal. It'll manage heavy cover applications such as flipping or pitching, and it work frogs effectively.
6'6" heavy for jigs
6'6" medium heavy for plastics
6'6" medium for finesse plastics
6-6 mh spin for worms and soft plastics.
6-6 mh baitcast with a soft tip for cranks and spinnerbaits and topwaters.
7-6 flipping stick
7' MH with a fast tip for all three.
MH baitcasting (MBR783C)
MH Spinning (SJR783S)
ML Spinning (st. Croix triumph 6'6" ML)
I don't see R. Clunn chiming in, he claims all his rods are the same. When i first saw him say that on t.v., i'm thinking holy crap! Then listened to his reasoning- (same feel, no matter the bait, same reel-so he doesn't have to remember ratios) holy crap again! I love ya Rick, but you may be losing it. It's not that hard to remember which rod i use for cranks and which one i use for dropshot, etc. I'm calling him out!
6'6" MH F casting for plastics, jigs
7' M M casting for all treble hook baits
7' M F spinning for shaky head, drop shot, weightless plastics
7'2" M Spinning Outfit (Finesse)
7'11" Swimbait rod (All Swimbaits)
7'0" MH Baitcaster (Jigs, Small swimbaits, etc)
This is easy, since three rods are all I take now anyway.
G.Loomis SJR722(6'M spinning)
G.Loomis CR723(6'MH casting)
G.Loomis CR724(6'H casting)
I had to chime in for those of us with "short rods"
MH 6'6" casting (worms and such)
M 6'8" casting (cranks)
ML 7'1" spinning (lite stuff)
Quote7' MH with a fast tip for all three.
