I've been reading a lot of posts lately where people refer to others based on a brand (e.g., "Shimano Guys" etc.). I never thought of myself as a brand guy, but looking at my arsenal, I have to say I have slowly become a brand guy. I have tried a lot of reels from a ton of different manufactures and I am slowly becoming a "Daiwa Guy." IMO, I really like how Daiwa reels feel and perform. I learned early that I am a "G Loomis Guy" and "Cabelas XML Guy." Both these rods I really enjoy fishing, though admittedly, I haven't tried as many rod brands as I have reel brands.
I was wondering what you would label yourself as. Please keep this as to what brand you have trended towards and why you like it and not why you think other peoples choices suck. Note to Mods: If this gets ugly for any reason, please remove.
I thought I had you pegged with a name like Lucky Craft Man I would brand myself as a Abu Garcia/Revo/Daiwa guy. I am just sticking with reels on this.
Abu Garcia Guy
Strike King Guy
I am definitely a Abu and St. Croix guy. Although I do have a few Carrot Stix and Shimano products, lately I have steered more towards Revo and LTB combos. They feel perfect and perform flawlessly!

lol...if I had to brand myself with a lure, then I would definitely be a "Lucky Craft Guy"
Nice thread and gonna have to label myself as a :
Cabelas rod guy (Fish Eagle II,XML, XMLTi)
Quantum reel guy
I do own a Shimano mounted on a XML and Cabelas/Daiwa Prodigy mounted on a Fish Eagle II. Only other rod I own is a Berkley Amp with a Quantum Kinetic
Shimano guy
Was a Loomis guy, but starting to gravitate to other rods.
Shimano reel guy. Always have been..Japan made models only.
Was on my way to being a "Loomis guy" too but I am finding out the hard way that rumors of their customer service sorely lacking to be true.
So for rods, I gotta go BPS. Have 5, aged 15-26 years, none have ever failed.
QuoteWas on my way to being a "Loomis guy" too but I am finding out the hard way that rumors of their customer service sorely lacking to be true.
CT,
Very few people have ever posted bad Loomis cust. service experiences... what specifically happened to you?
I am both a "Shimano Reel Guy" and a "Shimano Rod Guy"

Flechero,
I'll pm you when I get home tonight so I don't derail the thread's original intention. I shouldn't have posted that at all here...I'm a tad ummm....."frustrated" ;D
10 reels in the boat, only one isn't a Shimano.
Four Kistlers, one Quantum, one e21, one Fenwick, one BPS PQ, One Falcon, one Okuma, one dick Custom Deluxe
I can't be pegged to just one brand of rod or reel. I would consider myself a "Get a Deal Guy"
As far as reels go I have 3 Pflueger Patriarchs, 1 Pflueger Supreme, 1 Pflueger Asaro, 2 Shimano Curados (E5 and E7), 1 Daiwa Sol, 1 Daiwa Alphas, 1 Daiwa Fuego, 1 Quantum Energy, 1 Quantum Code, 1 Abu Revo S, 1 Abu Revo Toro, 1 Quantum Energy Spinning, 1 Pflueger President Spinning, and 1 Mitchell Advocet.
For rods I have 2 Kistler Magnesiums, 2 BPS Cranking Sticks, 1 BPS Pro Qualifier, 1 BPS Extreme Spinning, 1 Lucky Craft Cranking rod, 2 Carrot Stix (1 LTX, 1 gold), 1 Powell Max, 1 St. Croix Avid, 1 Damiki Dark Angel Spinning, 1 Castaway Big Show, and 1 Berkley Lightening Rod.
The only things that were purchased at retail cost were the Mitchell Advocet, Berkley Lightening Rod, and the Lucky Craft Rod.
I don't think I left anything out.
Pflueger, Loomis, Powell, Stren, Zoom, Strike King cranks, LC jerkbaits, and the occasional YUM Dinger.
I love a Pfleuger reel
To be honest about the rod selection though, I dont really have a brand I lean toward. I have never owned a St. Croix, or carrot stix rod
I do own several Berkleys, Fenwicks, Ugly Sticks, Quantum, and BPS rods (all cheaper rods $45.00 - $95.00)
I'm an admirer of anything that is well made, or represents some technical advancement, regardless of manufacturer.
That said, most of my reels are Daiwa, and most of my rods are St. Croix.
Shimano Reels
G Loomis Rods
Trilene Line
Palomar Knots
.... hard to beat
right now my bc setup is a bass pro reel and shakespeare rod but if i had to pick i think id say im a daiwa guy.. my whole life ive always had daiwa. with exception to penn trolling reels. ive got a cheap $30 daiwa spinning combo i bought (d shock) and ive had that rod d**n near bent in half a few times pushing its limits to see if it would break and nothing.. ive lost my temper pretty bad with snags and still stood up.. for $30 im quite happy with the durability of it. they have got good gear for everyone from beginner to pro.
Im in AA that is abu and allstar ,,,,,,,,,like fenwick rods too
loomis on the rod thing.
steez and 50mg on the reels.
For the most part, Quantum reels and St. Croix rods.
Shimano Reels
St. Croix Spinning Rods
TBD Casting Rods
I'm with Rick on the "get a deal guy" thing. I've got quantum, daiwa, shimano & abu reels. Rods are about the same. If I had to pick one brand that I was loyal to for tackle it would be Berkely. Berkely line & soft plastics specifically.
glx/imx and cumara rods
all shimano reels core/curado and mg51's and one steez.how did that thing get in there?
i started with a zillion,but as much as i tried i didnt like.but the steez.....wow.
just got my buddy to order me a new core 51 8-)
i guess im a "lite guy" ;D
ID WRATHER GO WITH EAGLE CLAW 20/20 S
I have Shimano,Daiwa,ABU Garcia and Pflueger reels. :-/
I have St. Croix,Shimano,Daiwa,G Loomis,Berkley and 3 customs from Reel Mech for rods.
ALL my reels have Berkley XT on them, so except for the line, I guess I'm a brand whoore.
I was a Shimano guy many moons ago. Now I'm a Flooger dude. Don't bother asking why, it don't matter. A few years from now it may be different. I own rods by St. Croix, Daiwa and BPS. The St. Croix is my first high falutin' rod and I'm happy with it.
Powell rod guy
Abu Garcia Revo guy
And the occasional red headed step Kistler.......................... ;D
Flooger reel guy with a couple Garcia's thrown in.
All Star rods all the way.
My prefered Brands are:
Pflueger, Quantum and Daiwa reels in that order.
St. Croix and All Star Rods.
Stren line.
I was a 100% Shimano Guy until all of this Daiwa has rubbed off on me. So now I am a Shimano/Daiwa Guy and a 90% Loomis GLX guy although I do own Kistlers, Falcon's (love their cranking rods) and Castaways and just bought a G Blanks Custom that seems to be a really good rod.
Just a MOOK, %@&* these threads, I am a non participant anymore, they go nowhere >
Shimano Reel Guy.
St. Croix and G.Loomis rod Guy.
QuoteMOOK, %@&*( these threads, I am a non participant anymore, they go nowhere >
Hmmm...I guess he would be an "Angry Guy"
Quantum reels
Shimano rods.
I'm a "whatever I like" guy. I do fall for one brand over another but basically what works for me.
And for lack of better terms... I prefer "Brand X" lol
Shimano reel guy
Split grip rod guy
Zoom plastics guy
I have everything from a steez to a abu c4 on my boat, and when my mom comes to town I have a 33 alongside them.

Oh...Don't be a sourpuss, people are just having fun. Next time we get
together, I'm fishing with you and I'll be a Flooger Guy or a Cabela's Guy
or whatever brand YOU are fishing. I hope you make it out here for the
Roadtrip.

Make it out where? Has there been a posting about next year's road trip? If so, direct me to the thread, oh wise moderator.
Nevermind. How did I miss that. It had so many posts I just assumed it was for last year's road trip.
for line im deffinately a berkley guy. trilene xl and xt are the lines ive always used and never had any complaints. tracerbraid has been added to the list as well.
Shimano/quantum for reels.
Shimano rods
Rapala Cranks all the way
Other than that not very brand specific. I tend to lean towards Yamamoto and Strike king though...
Pflueger/Fenwick guy here.
Shimano reels, dobyns or powell rods, seagur line, GYM plastics, lucky craft hard baits. Oh and mattlures, huddleston, and 3:16 Swimbaits. 8-)
I'd normally would say that Muddy had it right but amazingly enough no one has taken a pot shot at any one's choices
How about a big BassResource.com round of applause?

Depends on the reviews I read here.
Reels- Reviews are good and the price is right, I will get anything. I have a flooger spinning reel, and was looking at a shimano baitcaster. Ended up with a diawa.
Rods- Once again reviews, I heard the falcons were pretty good, so I bought a falcon. I heard St. Croix's are good so I bought a St. croix.
So, I guess I am a Zoom, Gammy, Diawa, Flooger, Falcon, St. Croix, trilene, Rebel, Strike king, Booyah, etc... etc..
I just like a good deal.
-gk
I own a little bit of everything... i am also a deal *****
Reels:abu/quantum.... I just don't have the money to buy more abu's
Rods: Carrot sticks/kistler... but still searching my options
Mono: Sufix.
Flouro: Seaguar/cabelas
Plastics: Rage Tail/tiki/Berkley
Crankbaits: I hate them, but lucky crafts when I have too
Spinnerbaits: Terminator/booyah
Underwear: hanes boxers
Quantum rods and reels.
Strike King
Zoom
Berkley
Stuff has worked for me for a long time.
Ambassadeur(60),and Phenix(20) guy!
10 years ago I was Abu Garcia/Shimano guy.
Last year I went all Revo reels and BPS Pro Qualifier rods.
I'm dumping my Revos now and I'm thinking about going all Shimano after trying out a 2009 Curado.
I use all Shimano reels and all St Croix Rods except for my jig rod and it is a Falcon.
Later,
Alll my reels are......
