Mine was a 3.4 Large mouth. He was sitting in a foot of water next to a broken and laid down boat dock. I pitched a jig and he nailed it immediately.
My biggest loss was about a 5 pounder.. I was using a jig. Pitching into a laid down tree. I pulled up on him and his head came up out of the water when he spit the jig. I was ticked for sure. The jig came flying back at my head.. I missed that hook set. Anxious i guess.
So far it's this dude.
I lost two that day that were both bigger though. No big deal, I'm going to catch a bigger one than that before the end of the year.
My best Largemouth & Smallmouth so far (May 22, 2015) of 2015.
LM: 6lb 10oz - 23'' (April 13, 2015)
SM: 4lb 02oz - 19 & 1/2'' (May 21, 2015)
As for the loss, I was fishing a buzzbait one evening and saw a huge surface strike near a dock, so I tossed the buzzbait around it with no results. I then changed to a Excalibur Spittin Image and after fishing with it for a few min a ~4-5lb Largemouth came up from the depths and nailed it... but sadly didn't get hooked up.

On behalf of all the bank fisherman on BR, I let it go on record that I take offense at your title. Is that the only way you can catch or lose bass?
The best bass I've banked this year was a 7 3/4 lb. largemouth. I was dragging a Yum Wollee Bullee with a 3/0 VMC hook and a 1/4 oz. sinker over some logs and she grabbed it.
The best bass I've lost this year was the same one in the same pond. She smoked a Cyclone Classic buzzbait in pouring rain. I fought her for about a minute, she jumped and let me get a good look at her, and then suddenly she was gone.
5.9lb

While fishing in the Everglades, I lost one on a jig after making a long cast onto a hump. Got her right up to the boat and the jig came out. She was 7-8lbs easy
My largest fish so far this year is a smallie! And that makes me very happy! 5lbs 13oz

Beautiful fish, Jeff!
My PB so far. Caught at a local Jax pond in Fl. She weighed 8.0# SHE's A PIG.
I didn't loose one, but i did see one at the same pond that was #13+ after the spawn. Her- i just couldn't get her attention. Thats about as close as i came to loosing one.

I See Why They Call Them BRONZE BACKS~ lol
Well I had a day at a certain body of water this spring when I saw 5 bass in the 6-8 plus pound range (it's hard to judge weight when they are shaped like a crappie!) and only two of them even showed mild interest in what I offered. After a year at that place I still haven't figured them (the big girls) out. I don't get it at all.
It's very personal now!
Biggest bass this year was this 6.5 pounder caught on Okeechobee and the biggest fish I lost this year was on Okee and would have been a PB for sure she looked around 8pounds... My biggest NH bass this year is between 3 and 3.5lbs which will soon be shattered since my lacrosse season has finally wound down.
I'm telling you! That 8 pounder i caught was not even when i was targeting them. I was fishing with cutbait for catfish! ~ weird

This is my biggest bass caught this year. I lost a DD at the bank later that day on a swimbait. That one really hurt. I also lost a big smallie this month but never got to see her. She felt like a real toad.

Nice one ~
I have a feeling you'll be posting here again soon . . . . . and you'll probably have to use Two Hands

Sounds Drobnyisk.
i started a post a couple days ago (bass fishing in nj) with my biggest this year probably around 4 1/2-5lbs she nailed a yum wolly bug in crawdad and really put up a fight trying to pull her through the pads
and today, (i know its not a bass) but i missed a snakehead at least 20inches, i was slow rolling a strike king swim jig along the edges of grass and he inhaled it i had people running over to see what i was fighting because it was splashing everywhere but when i went to lift him up the bank he popped off and a little part of me died for that split second lol
It was caught from the bank but this is the biggest bass for me this year. DD caught on a 4'' swimbait in a neighborhood while on vacation on Fl. The biggest lost bass would have been my biggest to date. We were fishing Lake Toho the same week I caught the one in the neighborhood and it was early morning . I watched the bobber go down and set the hook and the battle was on. The boat was getting slightly turned by the bass. The fish made one last ditch effort to change directions and when it surfaced it was curled up and the football gut was showing in a big way. The guide said that's a 12+ lb fish and I don't doubt it he's been guiding Toho for 30 plus years and many DD come out of there . Unfortunately after changing direction and trying to make a dash for the grass nearby the big girl got off. That was within the first 5 minutes of fishing that day and it wore on me for quite a while. I have a picture of a giant bass the guide's client caught the next day in practically the same spot that went 13.5...could of been a different fish who knows.
Guess I can weigh in some fish tales....
about a month ago me and my boy went, I though I was hung up on a tree log. A few seconds later it was on, I was a nervous wreck, told my boy to get the net, fought her for a minute, she finally came up and jumped, don't know the weight but size wise, would have been my biggest bass, threw the hook on a jump and thrash you would mistake for a baby tarpon, and she was gone. I still relive that in slow motion all the time.

Wolfy,
did you catch those in your area? If so those have to be huge for there I would think. Great job.
My biggest bass or lost bass hasn't happened yet, but I know it may happen the week of June 11 for both. I fish LOZ on a regular basis. Without question my best week is always seven to ten day after Memorial Day when the big power boats (hundreds of them) push the big post spawn females into the deep brush piles. After a few days to let the fish relax and it is safe to fish at night again we'll drag Berkley 10" power worms looking for the fish of the year. At 81 it is however getting tougher.
My biggest smallmouth so far this year is 14". (Ok, stop laughing! ha-ha) I hate to say this, but you guys are making me feel better about the smallie I lost on Sunday afternoon. Wading in a river, I threw a jig into a slack area and when I lifted up on the rod thought I was snagged on a rock. Gave it a little tug to free it and it was a fish. She raced at me and I tried to set the hook harder but then she jumped... and then jumped again... Holy crap, this fish is 3+ pounds which is big for me. I might get one shot a year at a smallie this big! I finally caught up to her and she turned and... here came my jig. I'm still a little nauseous over it.
I have only landed a 3 pounder this year so far that was the biggest the summer is when it really turns on for me though.

Same here...The biggest ones I've cuaght so far this year was a 3.5lb smallie and a 3-4lb large mouth(didn't have a scale),I thought I would stick a pig during the spawn but I never got much time to fish and the conditions weren't rite but hopefully there will be bigger.

Thanks,
Yep, same area I always fish. They have made me fall in love with fishing the early season despite the tough conditions, right now I'm surrounded by dinks and buck bass and can't even break 2lb... lol. If I catch one now that weighs 1lb+ it's considered a "nice one".

Best Largemouth 7 lbs 13 oz caught in Maine
Best Smallie is a tie at 4 lbs 1 oz. One from Maine and one from Vermont.
Hopefully will be able to upgrade by the end of the year.

Awesome Largemouth ~
Always enjoy seeing the Maine green tanks you're able to hunt down.
Is that beast from this season ? Let me guess - Jig Fish ?

All three are this seasons best so far. Looking to upgrade on both species. There is a whole lot of fishing to be done.
Fantastic pic's, congrats.. I'm still stuck at 3lbs+ But the seasons early!!
7.91. Don't know about fish lost/missed but the season is young and I've landed 6 or 7 fish pretty good fish so far no DD's yet. I haven't seen one of those for about three years now.

14 inches is probably under my average size for smallies. My biggest ever is 3 and 3/4 pounds.
So far I "LANDED" an 8#
For all you land fisherman like me- you don't need a bass boat with all the extaments to catch Big, Pig bass.

I have only fished about 12 hours total this year. My biggest bass so far was the first fish I caught, in the first 10 minutes of my first (very brief) outing this season, May 4th. A bit over 4lbs:
Haven't lost anything bigger. Yet.

lol...I noticed your last couple posts on the other thread really put the "small" in "smallie".
Best landed was a little over 9lbs. I lost one yesterday that looked to be 10-12
I've caught quite a few of these little rascals this year (between 3 and 4 lbs) but nothing bigger.
I had one on last weekend that warrants a "one that got away" story. I cast a jig and craw to a lone stick-up by the dam at a new lake and felt the slightest of ticks. After setting the hook, I thought I had a catfish as they sometimes like the JJs on my craws. The fish just stayed deep and wouldn't come up, pulling my rod aggressively toward the water. My heart kind of leaped in my throat when I got a look at her as she surfaced about 15 - 20 feet from the boat. I immediately tried pulling to my left and down to keep her from leaping. Unfortunately, I pulled the hook free from her mouth. She might have been at least twice the weight of the one in the pic above, though I didn't have my remote digital weight estimator to fire at her and get a reading. Sometimes the ones you lose can make you feel like an amateur.

3lb 14oz LM & 3lb 8oz SM
Not sure on weight, somewhere around 3-3.5 I'd guess. I lost one about 15 minutes before I caught that one that was quite a bit bigger, I got a good look at it when it jumped and it looked to be closer to 5. That one will probably be closer to 7 pounds by the time the season's over.
