Answer: I don't think so, don't think they make a smaller version of the 888

No instruction booklet came with item. Bite alert does not work and without instructions. Question on how it works? And where is the booklet?

Answer: The Bite Alert is the on/off switch on the side of the reel. With it on, the line is allowed to be pulled out freely, handle can turn both directions, and makes a louder clicking noise. With it off, you can not back reel, and the line is pulled against the drag.

Can it hold 200lb line?

Answer: Yes, it can hold 200lb braided fast flite line.

Answer: In my opinion it would take 30lb, just not as many yards of it. I have been fishing 888's as long as they have been made, it's all about setting the drag right for the size fish you are targeting.

Bought two for med/heavy catfish rods, they cast pretty far, easy to use, preloaded with 20lb line is a plus. Not a winch on smaller fish, but should be mounted on a med/heavy rod.

Im not sure if i have a defective reel, but i bought this so i can cast farther than my older spinner reels. However, this reel cant handle a 2oz weight, when i cast it the reel pulls drag and my cast stops short. About 20ft was the farthest i could cast .☹
