Questions about SHIMANO SYNCOPATE Front Drag, Freshwater Spinning Fishing Reel
Q:
Why does my syncopate 4000 has Malaysia written on the tab that connects to the rod? I really hope that does not mean it was made in Malaysia.
Answer: All Shimano reels are made in Malaysia.
Answer: Regardless of where it was made it is a very nice reel for the money. As smooth as the more expensive 5 bearing models.
Q:
How does the 2500 compare to the 1000 series?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: It's bigger. I have used only Shimano quick fire reels for over 20 years and I have never strained my finger...lol
Answer: Lol! What you did to make a living has nothing to do with the length of your fingers. Believe me I was a professional boxer and have broken my hands all my fingers many times. If anything it has made my fingers shorter and much bigger in diameter!
Answer: If you are giving it away, I'll take it!!!
Q:
Why does it have the big grip on the reel I bought this model b4 and it didn't have the big grip?
Answer: My 1000 reels all have the small grip, but my 2500 reels all have the larger grip. That’s all I can tell you.
Q:
Can i use this for light bass fishing? I am from Georgia.
Answer: Not an ideal weight but I've caught many 5/-lb bass in the rivers I fish with my kayak here in Tennessee. Not recommended for Lake or big fish fishing.
Answer: I use the ones I have for Crappie, love them, but I also catch small bass and have caught catfish up to four lbs on them, while fishing for Crappie.
Answer: You really have to ask a question like that? You can use it to fish for sharks in the Black Sea or fish for 2" Bluegill in a tiny creek in Rooster Spit KY for gosh sakes! I just couldn't resist this one! Makes me wonder how some people manage to find their own way home from work...if they have a job that is.......
Answer: Yes would work well for a 4 lb or less bass.
Answer: Yes, it should work just fine for bass fishing.
Answer: The answer to that question is Yes. I think it will handle up to about 3 pounds. I have caught several 1/2 pound up to about 2 pounds with it. Fun real.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is overall length of the model 4000 vs the 2500?
Answer: Hi Eric, the 4000 is about 1and 1/4 inch longer, but the 4000 is a little bit heavyweight then the 2500. I have 3 - 4000 on 6 foot rods that I use for bass and Muskie. Hope that help you some what. Happy fishing
Answer: These spinning reels are about the same size, other than the drag ability. I do not know the length of the reels, and the manufacturer does not show the length, because knowing this serves no purpose, in my opinion.
Q:
Do you have to clip the line with your finger since it has a quick fire trigger? Thank You
Answer: With the Fast Cast feature, as your index finger goes down to pull the trigger, your finger will naturally loop under the line as the bail opens. Then when you make your forward cast just point your index finger down the rod length which releases the line from your finger and makes great casts. I swear by them and have used them since maybe 1985.
Answer: Yes, that's what makes it so nice and easy to cast. One hand only. The bail always stops at the top, so you can hook your finger around the line and the trigger in one motion. I love all 4 of mine. I use mine for Crappie, with
Answer: The Quick Fire Trigger allows you to flip the bail with one hand, but you still need to pickup the line with your index finger to cast.
Answer: No need to clip line with finger. The reel.is very smooth and works very well. Great for crappie fishing.
Answer: Yes you place the line between finger and trigger. Great reel.
Answer: Yes, you need to grab the line with the trigger. Personally, I prefere it that way.
Answer: Yes you do... you can use it either way.. but I like it like that, so easy to use.. great reel...
Q:
What size is good for trout
Answer: what size trout?
Answer: 2500 is good, trolling in deep water 4000.
Answer: I use no less than 20lbs test when fishing. never fished for trout ,but i love the reel. Probably buy a couple more
Answer: The 2500FG works very well with a 5 1/2 or 6 ft. Rod. I have 2 of these set up on Ugly Stick rods. I use for fresh and light salt water. I like lighter weight tackle on bigger fish to keep skills honed for when I go after the fish that are bigger than me. Both reels have been trouble free. Using 8 lb. test mono. Over the years I've had great success with Shimano and Penn.
Q:
What size rod do you recommend to use with a shimano syncopate 2500 reel?
Answer: I use on a light weight rod 6 ' 6" and 4 lbs test for perch ... very fun to use ! For the money Great little set up !
Answer: I use a 6 1/2 foot medium spinning rod for these reals (I sportfish freshwater) Berkley lightning rods
Answer: what category of rod? i mean telescopic, spining, feeder or on what kind of rod?
Q:
Is this real suitable for use in saltwater?
Answer: Yes you could use it in salt water. It really depends what you are fishing for. It's not heavy for deep sea fishing. There are a couple of sizes of the syncopate reel and I think this is the smallest
Answer: It is a small reel I only fish freshwater.
Answer: I've been fishing with this fishing rod for many years and love them and have six of them myself
Answer: Only if you're planning to catch small baitfish.
Answer: It can be used in salt water but I would do routine maintenance on it regularly.
Q:
Is this ambidextrous
Answer: Yes definitely. Just unscrew the side knob, pull out the shaft and move it to the other side and screw the knob back in. Easy.
Answer: YES it is !! The handle can be mounted on either side, so, "South Paws" can operate it with ease !!
Answer: The reel handle can be moved to either side of the reel
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes it is.
Answer: Yes it is
Q:
Can I use this for steelhead?
Answer: I would say the 4000 would work fine for Steelhead.
Q:
I have a 7’ fenwick fast rod that’s been looking for a new reel and I wonder if the 4000 or the 2500 would be a perfect fit?
Answer: I believe the 2500 would be a perfect fit...The 4000 will definitely hold a lot more line, and would be a good fit also, but I would much rather have the 2500. I have 3 of them, and one 4000...I absolutely love the rapid fire reels, and they’re very durable contrary to many reviews I have read...
Q:
Would this reel be suitable for saltwater fishing? If not-what other inexpensive model would be good?
Answer: Sure. Depending on what you are trying to catch it would work fine. I have a Sienna 4000FD that I am running 20# braid on (which is the diamater of like 8lb mono) and I will run an 8# floro leader for surf perch from the beach. But my reel would be fine for smaller grade fish (anything under 5lbs) all day. I also upgraded the washers in it to carbon washers which also made a world of difference.
Answer: It's ok for saltwater. Hard to get a part to clean and lube. I use it for my kids in case something big takes their rig and they let go. Between rod and reel in only out $60-80 if it goes overboard.
Q:
Line weight and capacity?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Mono Line Cap: 6/200; 8/140; 10/120
Answer: Rated for no more than 12 or 14 lb.....I put 14 Trilene XT.....works fine.
Q:
how many bearings
Answer: Check Manufacturers FAQs.
Q:
Can a gx2 rod OK for this reel
Answer: Which gx2 rod? Ugly Stick makes a lot of different rod weights & lenghts.
Answer: I'm not sure what a gx2 is but ive caught a lot of catfish since I bought my reel
Answer: This reel very heavy weight I don’t like it
Answer: Go not know
Q:
What material is the spool made off..?
Answer: Metal.same as rest of the reel. Nice! Not cheap plastic.
Answer: Well, it’s metal. That's the limit of my expertise.
Q:
Is this a quick fire reel?
Answer: The 2500 reel is quick fire, which is what I bought. I do not know this reel.
Answer: No
Answer: Yes it is
Q:
wondering if the 1000 paired with a 6' light action rod would work well with a bb sinker small cork and #8 hook for bream? Estimate casting distance?
Answer: That combo will work great for you. Four or six lb. test works for me. Good luck.
Answer: I think that would be a great setup myself.
Q:
I'm thinking about upgrading from a shimano spirex 2000 to a shimano syncopate 2500 or 4000. what is a good rod combo for either one? thanks.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: My rod, which I've been using about 35 years, is 64" and it works perfectly. I wouldn't want it any longer for the trees and obstacles that I fish around on the mountain streams.
Answer: I'd go with a medium heavy rod.
Q:
Length of line on spool
Answer: I have 125 yards of good quality line on my 2500 model.
Q:
How many bearings does it have
Answer: The 1000 has 4 Bearings printed on the side of the reel under the handle. The picture on Amazon shows a larger size reel and shows 3 Bearings printed on the side of the reel. I have the 1000 and very pleased with it.
Q:
How does the Syncopate 1000 version compare up to the Nexave model?
Answer: I don’t know about Nexave , all i can tell about syncopate it’s very heavy weight and I didn’t like it
Q:
Does the handle switch over for a leftie?
Answer: Yes it does. I'm left handed and it works fine. It's easy to swap over too
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Item description is too vague. What is the line capacity and drag weight?
Answer: 6 lbs - 200 yds; 8 lbs - 140 yds of conventional mono. See Shimano website for details.
Q:
Can the delivery of goods to Russia?
Answer: Unfortunately, no. We're only set up to deliver in the U.S. Sorry.
Q:
How much bigger is the 4000 vs. 2500? Is the frame that much bigger?
Answer: I don't have the 4000, but I dont think it is all that much bigger. I have both 1000 and 2500 and I can pick up either and fish without really noticing the size difference. They are great reels for the money.
Answer: A lot. The reason for the bigger (4000) over the 2500 is that you have almost twice the drag surface but more importantly, the spool size can keep more line and less drag when casting.
Q:
how much does this 1000 weigh?
Answer: Not sure, but very light.
Q:
What is the little brown lever just below the crank handle do?
Answer: You want the real locked when using the crank handle. Flipping the lever allows the real to turn freely.
Answer: That lever toggles the anti reverse feature. Controls wether the crank can turn backward and forward or just forward.
Answer: Locks or unlocks handle , so it will not spin backwards
Answer: anti reverse lever, excellent reel
Answer: anti reverse on/off
Q:
What is the one size option versus the other models?
Answer: Not sure what you mean
Q:
Can this handle salt water fishing?
Answer: Might be a tad small for ocean fishing, especially if you hook into a monster. If you mean, will the salt water hurt the reel, I seriously doubt it.....
Q:
will this SC4000fg handle pike fishing with 25# mono?
Answer: Don't know about pike but it handles 17 lb to 23 lb Silver Salmon to the point that that is all I use anymore.
Q:
Hey guys. i’m newer to fishing. i got a 6.6 ugly stick shakespeare rod, and was curious if one of these would work on it? looking to catch 10-15lb
Answer: I've been fishing a long time. What is the rating for your rod? Length is irrelevant on a big fish at 10-15 pounds. I would suggest at least a medium to medium heavy with 12- 20 pound test. This reel should do it, you may want to go a bit bigger.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: You don't say what rating your rod is. This reel should handle freshwater fish in the weight class you are talking about, depending on how you fish. if you fishing in laid down timber, you may need to go heavier. What are you fishing for?
Answer: This reel will be perfect for you. Holds plenty of line. It's smooth and the quickfire trigger helps casting and control. I bought 3 just in case it got discontinued.
Answer: Yes it would. That would be a great combination.
Q:
Is the 2500 model the same frame size (reel size) as the 1000 (same frame)? It’s just the spool that is larger correct???
Answer: Its a little bit larger but not enough to really notice
Q:
How long is the foot on this reel
Answer: Yes it is
Q:
Its written "fresh water".... What about if use it in the sea...? Coukd anybody xplain pls... Wht hapend if the frwah water reel use in the salt watr
Answer: It's a bit dinky to go Deep Sea Fishing with with 10 pound line capacity but you could use it if wanted to. If so i would just wash the reel after your done & it should work fine. But yes it's made for Freshwater fishing like Bass , Catfish , Bluegills, Walleye, Crappie ect. The salt may if left never washed affect the gear assembly. Wash it when your done & it should be fine. Personally i would go with something better suited for Ocean fishing.
Answer: After use in salt water all you need do is rinse in warm fresh water. Remove spool rinse thoroughly dry and lubricate all exposed gears, spools etc. And you're good to go. Don't wait long after your exposure to a salt environment to remove the salt to prevent corrosion.
Answer: You could get salt from the water inside the reel and it will corrode the gears and springs and other metal parts and they will not work well very long. Reels for salt water use are sealed to prevent the water from getting inside them.
Answer: You can use it just fine. Just wash your reels on a regular basis to keep the salt from building up.
Answer: You can use for saltwater fishing but make sure to rinse off with water and lube reel.
Answer: It will be prone to rusting because of the effect of the saltwater.
Answer: Check manufacturers FAQs.
Q:
How does with reel work with saltwater surf fishing?
Answer: Cannot say, only use it in fresh water
Q:
What is the overall length of the model 4000?
Answer: Been a few years since I purchased it as a gift to some little fisherladies in Georgia but I would say 4.5-4.75"
Answer: don't know, not listed by the manufacturer
Q:
Why did this double in price overnight?! it was so appealing at 30 bucks. the day i decide to buy size 4000 it’s now 60. killing me fam
Q:
Will this reel take on a 30lb Salmon on 20lb mono?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: No. To small of a reel for the weight and power of fish.
Answer: Should do just fine. Good reel.
Q:
Is Shamino 1000 spinning reel good for crappie fishing?
Answer: The Shimano 1000 spinning reel is my favorite reel for Crappie. It has the quick-fire release and is a one
Answer: Very good. I like the snapshot feature that you can open your bail with one finger. I've caught thousands of crappie with mine.
Answer: It is a great reel, but a bit large for crappy fishing. The same reel a few sizes smaller would be the ticket.
Answer: Perfect for panfish including crappie!
Answer: Yes, it should work well for crappie.
Answer: great.. the best I've used yet.. and for the price, great deal...I also got another one
Answer: Sure. It is not too big and easy to cast.
Answer: Just fine.
Answer: Thanks for information
Q:
what is the meaning of 1000,2500, 4000? I mean what is the difference?
Answer: I believe it refers to spool size. A 4000 will have the capacity for heavier test line while a 1000 will spool smaller test line. Always look for line capacity specifications instead of spool size as different companies number their spools differently. I have the 4000 and I spooled 25lb test mono on for cat fishing which is above the capacity on this reel but it works out fine.
Answer: It gets down to spool size, and line capacity. I fish exclusively with Shimano Spin Casting Reels, mainly 2500’s, in the rapid fire versions. I have read a lot of reviews, that state, they just don’t hold up. I disagree! I think they’re very durable, and I absolutely love them....
Q:
why all item is pay by credit card
Answer: sure
Q:
Would the 4000 series pair well with a medium fast rod?
Answer: Helo, it's very fast.
Q:
do you offer the 2500 ?
Answer: Don’t understand your question. I recently bought a 2500 at Bass Pro.
Q:
What are the line of each model?
Answer: Not sure exactly what u mean but each one can handle different pound test line. 1000 is 2 to 6lb. 2500 is like 6 to 10lb maybe, or in that range. Not sure on the 4000, I don't have one of those, but it will do heavier line
Q:
I read that the Quick Fire reels allow some backspin causing loss of fish from the line, can anyone confirm or deny or add to this?
Answer: I removed my trigger once I got it out of the box, but yes the reel does allow some backspin. Haven't lost a fish from it but i only keep it for a backup.
Answer: I've been using Quick Fire reels for over 20 years. Never once have I had any backspin issues. After a good hook set, I've never had any issues playing and bringing fish to the boat or net.
Answer: They will reverse to the trigger point, but that is not much. They are fun to cast, but they take a beating each time they slam back into position. I own two but won't purchase another. Shimanos are good reels, but I would forget the Quick Fire reels.
Answer: Yes it does have a little 'back spin'-
Q:
How many ball bearings?
Q:
What’s the best rod to pair with this reel
Answer: Being that the reel shown is the 1000 series, I would choose a 5'6-7' rod in a light action. 6-8 lb test would be towards the high end of poundage for the line. 4 lb test line and 6'6" rod in light action with a fast tip would really cast well. This size is a great choice for streams and trout or targeting crappie. It's a bit small for bass but it has a smooth drag system and can handle it.
Answer: That will depend upon how you will use the rod and combo. Will you be fishing with 0.5 ounce on the end of your line or heavier?
Answer: It depends on the model number. If you are buying this model 1000FG this is a smaller reel designed to be used with a light action or ultra-light action rod. I use this model on a 5 foot and a 6.5 foot long rod in light action and use 6 pound test line by Sufix in clear.
Answer: I use a 5 1/2 to 6 foot light action spinning rod with 4 lb test line for bluegill, bass and trout fishing. You could use a heavier line and go with a medium action rod and the reel would be adequate.
Answer: I use my 1000fg for Crappie with a 6’ 6” or 7’ Light action rod. Works great for me.
Answer: I paired it with a Berkeley cherry wood 6 foot rod.
Answer: I put mine on a 6ft ugly stick, I mainly do pan fishing.
Q:
What is the line capacity?? example:line capacity: 6/200,8/140,10/120
Answer: 200 yards of 6lb. line, or 140 yards of 8 lb. line, or 120 yards of 10lb. line.
Answer: Sorry it took me so long to answer your question. If you have the SYNCOPATE 2500 the line capacity is exactly what you posted in the question as an example. If you are getting the SYNCOPATE 1000 (lite or untra-lite size) 2/170, 4/140 & 6/110. THe reason I buy the SYNCOPATE is for the fastcast feature. I've been spoiled by this feature for over 35+ years. I like the self-centering too. I hope this helps.
Answer: Did you consider asking Shimano ?
Product reviews of SHIMANO SYNCOPATE Front Drag, Freshwater Spinning Fishing Reel
Captian Obivious : It's a light action reel, very inexpensive yet bats up there with more expensive reels.
It's a light action reel the same dimensions as the Zebco that came with my dock demon rod/reel combo.
The Zebco rod reel combo is ok, the rod is nigh on indestructible, but just needs a better reel. The problem is though the rod due to its length has a tight angle from most reels that with such a short rod (36") hampers your casting ability.
Step in the Shimano, its upward angle gets the line aimed for the first eyelet, the reel itself holds a large quantity of line, and the one handed cast ability makes it superb for kayak fishing.
Now before anyone laughs, with this set up and good braided line, I can easily cast just as far as I can with a 5ft rod and the exact same lures. and for the cramped space of a kayak, wrangling a long rod reel combo is not a problem.
John Vieau : Love the "NO FAIL BAIL"
Have used Shimano"trigger" bails for over 30 years. The only reels I use. I have numerous models of these.
Have never lost a fish due to lack of instant reverse.
Kayak fish fast rivers, small and big lakes and Lake Michigan with these. The one hand operation is essential as the other hand is always busy with paddle management.
I've tried other open face reels and its a 2 hand operation to cast. Shakespeare made a no fail bail but it was not well made. Would love to see a multiple bearing high end reel with the trigger feature. I'd pay well for that.
These are the higher end of Shimano's trigger series. Nice and smooth compared to the cheaper ones. I have at least a dozen of these as I often take out a fishing neophyte and very easy to teach them to cast with this. I use one of these for ice fishing also.
Try it out, I think you will like this quality, nicely priced reel.
Chad Drumm : Shimano is my favorite brand of reels
What can I say... Shimano is my favorite brand of reels... Bought two of these for ultra lite fishing... Perfect size... Love the quick fire trigger... Very smooth... Spooled
With 6lb test and you have a perfect set up...
Heath Payton : They are great for kids to learn on
I have owned a bunch of these. They are great for kids to learn on!
Amazon Customer : excellent
Excellent product, ordering another !
astroman161 : Great reel for a good price
Love my purchase. Used the underspin stuff for a while but got tired of the line twisting. These work perfect and the triggercast is very convenient. I've caught hundreds of bream and crappie so far with it. I just bought another hoping it's just as good. It doesn't have instant anti reverse but it puts itself in a perfect place for you to use the triggercast. The drag works good as well. The retrieve is very smooth and it doesn't get twisted behind the bell like some of my previous opwnfaces. Overall it's a great product and its 10 to 1 compared to a spincast or zebco in my opinion.
Amazon Customer : Great value
Great value just wish it came with a extra spool but worth the money.
albert : Nice reel
Bought this reel for light tackle and it works great. It was priced very reasonably for a Shimano. It is easy to cast and control the line. I would recommend this reel to anyone that wants a nice inexpensive casting reel.
C Photo : Can’t go wrong
Smooth reel. I have about 10 small reels in the 1000-2000 size , and this is one of the smoothest.
Goran : Cuts the line for me
Unsure what is going on for me, I use Mr Crappie hi vis 4lb line and my line cuts around the bail. It has happened numerous times and only with this reel (I have others with the same line and do not have this issue).
Might be me doing something weird that I do not think about. Overall it's a great reel and I like the one-hand operation while shooting crappie docks. But many times when pulling out a bit of line (loose drag), the line just breaks. Bad line, who knows.. I have it on other setups from the same spool.
Efren Ramirez Jr. : Great low price reel
You will be hard pressed to find a better reel for $30.
fishpapa : MY LITTLE GRANDAUGHTER AND I ARE VERY PLEASED
I ordered 2 of these, giving one to my grandaughter for her new light action 4-piece pack rod. I had to exchange the other because it turned hard. I was very pleased how fast and easy Amazon's return/exchange system works. They ship a replacement immediately and provided a free shipping lable and authorization for return which I printed out, also immediately. These reels are smooth and are quick-easy casting with their snap-shot bale system making them easy for youngsters with little hands to use and to trip. Kids can back the handle up and then use forward enertia to assist in tripping the bale. The 1000's are well sized for 4# or 6# mono(I loaded ours with 6#) and light to medium/light rods. Their drags are smooth and adjust in a linear manor.
I also ordered 2 of the 2500 models, loading one with 8#. I intend to load 10# on the other. My grandaughter and I fished yesterday successfuly for trout and we both favored the 1000 for the 10"-14" sized fish we caught (She caught twice what I caught). The 2500 is sized for larger waters and fish plus will hold 120 yards of 10# mono. The comfortable handle is larger and differently configured.
Mary Kay Corum : Durable & casts great!
Excellent choice, a reliable reel. Great price!
cbeach : Great reel
What else can I say, I like this kind of reel and it works great.
cmh : Great for the price.
Bought all my grandsons one to learn to fish with a spinning reel, I own two also (10 years) Great reels.
Danny W. : Can't beat Shimano. This one was a lemon.
Usually Shimano Rocks
I have one of these reels and love it. This one didn't work well. Vendor returned money . ALL GOOD.
Almost all my reels are Shimano.
Dannella Pennington : Too Confusing to Buy Parts - Select Another Brand or Model
I have come to know that the Shimano Reels are too many and too confusing and models too numerous.
I like to buy an extra spool so I can have say a 2 pound spool and a 6 pound spool. You would think that easy. It is part # 13411. I now have 2 extra spools and the Seller from Georgia assured me that the Shimano cross reference charts show that the one he sent me fits more than one Shimano Syncopate 1000. But which one - there are all kinds of Shimano Syncopate 1000 reels with a differing letter following the 1000 - like just an F or and I. Madding, but I guess Shimano made a different reel spool for all these reels. They are Shimano 1000 spools designed to hold 2, 4, and 6 pound line and they go perfectly on the reel until you try to put the end nut in place. Both spools I purchased are in fact about 1/8 of an inch TOO LONG and you cannot screw the drag nut in place. And I now have 2 of these spools. They have no part number on either one so you cannot determine what they even fit. I can't even buy a reel to fit my two Shimano spools. The packaging bag also is unmarked as to the part number.
Should you want two spools for your reel as I did, do yourself a favor and purchase a reel with 2 spools or from a seller that sells extra spools.
I did find one independent seller who sells the spare spools for $9.22 plus shipping but they are out of stock until October 2014. Not much help when you want to go fishing now. I also noticed that multiple part for this reel are already DISCONTINUED. This is another reason to select another reel or brand.
silverfox57 : good value
i like the reel so far very smooth haven't had the chance to use it much
camping31620 : Great fishing reel...
This reel is absolutely the smoothest in operation I've ever fished with.
Lawrence Kish : good sturdy reel for the $$
I qas very surprised at how good this reel actually is, its sturdy casts and reels smoothly. Even my 5 yr old son is casting it and catching bass with this reel.
BREW & Q : Shimano snob here
I love shimanos and the syncopate series of spinning reels are the way to go!! cheap smooth and great for casting long distances.

SCI1994/8 : Not what I expected from Shimano.
Didn't last long and the trigger no longer works. Will not open bail so it stays open.
Brian G. : As shown
Product is as shown.
albert : Nice reel
Bought this reel for light tackle and it works great. It was priced very reasonably for a Shimano. It is easy to cast and control the line. I would recommend this reel to anyone that wants a nice inexpensive casting reel.
James R. Morris : Quick Fire the Only Way To Go!
This is a great reel I am amazed that all manufactures have not switches to the "Quick Fire" system for spinner reels it is so smooth and easy to cast, over hand up under trees hanging over the river it is just a perfect reel.
Dwayne Thompson : a favorite among fishing reels
excellent reel for the money. trigger makes for ease of use and faster casts than other spinning reels. very smooth feel. overall fantastic reel. cant go wrong with these
Hala B. : Amazing!! Can hold braid!!
I just recently bought this and I have to say I am a young angler so I cant afford theseassive 100 dolar reels. I have used this for kayak fishing and i am runing a 6 6 light medium. I have 15 pound brAid. I have to say this reel is great and will buy more in the future. I reacomens drop shoting on this rod. I have already used this 3 times and caught a 4 pounder. Thanks shimono for the great reel
SCI1994/8 : Not what I expected from Shimano.
Didn't last long and the trigger no longer works. Will not open bail so it stays open.
camping31620 : Great fishing reel...
This reel is absolutely the smoothest in operation I've ever fished with.
Mike : 29.99
I bought a few of these in every size and only half of them actually worked. I also paid the regular everyday price of 29.99 for each of them and would never pay any more for one because these are barely worth that price.
JOSHUA M LINDSAY : Great reel for the price!!!
I do a lot of fishing (couple of times a week). I purchased this reel for trout. I was very surprised at the quality of the reel in relation to the price. I have a few reels of the same size that cost over three times the price and while this reel is diffinately not constructed with as high end materials, it is still solid. I would buy this reel again without hesitation. If you need an affordable reel that has good quality you can't go wrong with this reel.
Debbie W. : Its a shimano!
I have't found a better reel for the money. I have about 8 of these for kids and grandkids
James S. : Awesome as expected
I'd had one of these reels in the past, but list it somewhere along the way. It was always a great reel. This one is no different. Perfect for lakes (big and small) and rivers (big and small). Smooth action and the trigger makes it so easy to cast one handed.
SCI1994/8 : Not what I expected from Shimano.
Didn't last long and the trigger no longer works. Will not open bail so it stays open.
Alan M : Great reels!!
I love the quick cast reels. These are great reels and are perfect for light fishing as well as long fishing trips.
Jack Schofield : Shimano is clever
Super nice for the price. The anti-reverse doesnt engage immediately... its designed to stop when the bailer is aligned so you can get a finger on the bail lever for super fast cast action. When i realized that, i was blown away. Just reel backwards and it'll be in position.

Amazon Customer : excellent
Excellent product, ordering another !
Michael M : Very Nice Reel for <14lb Test. Smooth, Not Too Big.
Reel/Spool could be a little bigger so don't use this for over 14-16lb test or you won't be able to get a lot of line on there. Otherwise it works great and has a nice smooth feel.
FatherV5 : I recommend
Feels good quality
Fetsis : The go-to reel if you're looking for the one-handed Quick Cast bail. I love my Syncopates.
So hard to find Snap Cast / Quick Fire bails and this one is just perfect. Bail snaps closed very smoothly, reeling in is smooth and balanced, and I've never had an issue with any of my Syncopates. I have the 1000, 2500, and the 4000 and they each do their job flawlessly.
corey, spokane wa : This is a quality spinning reel for a low price
My brother is the real fisherman he has three of these spinning reels and swears by them. I had no problem making this particular purchase. I'm sure I will love this spinning reel just haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Geo : Good but not much line capacity.
Good for teaching someone how to fish on and price wise but not very large line capacity.
Keith Sinders : A hard-to-find spinning reel gem
I've never really learned how to properly cast a bait caster, so a spinning reel is my go-to reel. They are easy to fix line problems and cast, etc. I've gotten attached though to the quick-fire trigger spinning reels though. I'm really not sure why more companies don't make them. They are far quicker and easier to cast than any standard bail spinning reel.
Sure, I've seen people's complaints about these types of reels not having instant anti-reverse, but this type of reel can't work that way because otherwise the trigger won't stop where it needs to (near the rod). This really doesn't matter me though because I keep my hand on the crank, allowing me to lightly tighten or slacken the line as needed to lure the fish to strike and bite. I think everyone should keep their hand on the crank, so the instant anti-reverse only makes sense for me if the fisher is lazy.
Another thing I think has kept people away from trigger spinning reels is that in the past they were off-balanced and you would get a wobble as you reeled. Shimano did an incredible job at balancing this reel and it is incredibly smooth. It turns as well as other spinning reels I've bought that were far more expensive.
Overall this reel is built well, very light, turns smooth, etc. Until I found this reel, I was searching all over the web for old Diawa reels with the quick-fire trigger, because Diawa doesn't make that type of reel anymore and they used to be pretty good. This reel just beats the pants off of those old used reels. They are smoother, don't wobble like the old Diawa's did and are just far better reels.
They also seem to be built pretty well. About the only other company I've seen make them is Zebco. And Zebco's trigger is designed very poorly, it will break or quit functioning properly after a while. This trigger is pretty similar to the trigger from my old Diawa reels that have lasted for more than a decade. Shimano does make some other quick trigger spinning reels, but they are far heavier, reel slower and have a double handled crank that I don't like. I prefer a single handled crank like this reel has. A second handle tends to get in my way while turning the reel crank.
Amazon Customer : Husband approved!!
Bought as a gift.. he is still smiling!
Frankie Hicks : Best I have found for the money
I have several of this model. Best I have found for the money. I use 4 lb test , I have landed 8 lb fish on it fishing for crappie. Love the quick fire pickup.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
