Questions about SHIMANO Socorro SW Heavy Duty Saltwater Fishing Reel
Q:
What does the mean of the reel size number 6000, 8000...?
Answer: It's just a model size number. Different manufactures use different model size numbers. The larger the number the larger the reel and line capacity.
Q:
I'm considering penn spinfisher or clash for snook, redfish, etc. do you prefer the shimano soccoro? does it come with extra spool?
Answer: They are both powerful reels. I live on the west coast so I don't have any experience with snook, redfish. I use both reels for Salt Water mostly Surf Perch but I did catch a Striped Bass just this morning and had am easy time reeling it in with my Shimano Socorro SW 5000. Neither my Socorro or Spinfishers came with extra spools. Hope this is helpful.
Answer: I ended up buying the Penn and Im happy with it no extra spool.
Answer: I don’t care for shimano!
Answer: The Shimano Socorro 5000 is a little on the big side but it would definitely work for the inshore fish mentioned in your question. It does not come with a spare spool. I have the 6000 and I love it. It’s very smooth and the drag doesn’t jerk when being spooled by a large fish. Since the lower priced Penn reels are now manufactured in China, the quality of those reels have really gone down hill.
Answer: I don’t care for Shimano !
Q:
How much does the 6000 weigh?
Answer: About.05 lb

Answer: I can’t answer this I’ve never owned a Shimano.
Q:
Can the handle Switch to the side i want, cause i need it switch to left side?
Answer: Yes it can I wondered the same just gotta use a little force for the ridges to grasp

Q:
Is the 6000 saltwater or freshwater??

Answer: changeable
Q:

Answer: Yes the extra hassle came with mine.
Q:
Would the 5000 size pair up well with a 10’6-11’ surf rod?
Answer: It works fine for an 11 foot rod depending on the line test. (You’re going to get more distance with 20 lb test as opposed to 50)
Answer: Yes it will, even up to a 13’.
Q:
Are the internals titanium and graphite
Answer: Titanium
Q:
What is different about 8000 and 10000 model, cause I saw all the measurements are the same on both of them?

Answer: 8000 has 37 inches per crank and 10000 has 40
Answer: The only difference I know of is line capacity.

Answer: All the Socorro SW reels are for Salt Water. I have the 5000 and am quite satisfied with it. I surf fish commercial so it takes a few splashes of salt water. It performed very well for me.

Product reviews of SHIMANO Socorro SW Heavy Duty Saltwater Fishing Reel
Jw100 : Best reel out there .
Well here is a real review you can take to the bank . I am a offshore charter captain in SW Florida and I am on the water over 200 days a year with clients and I utilize the Socorro reels . My current ones are going on over a yr of hard use with 0 issues . This reel holds up better then the Stradic which is almost dbl the money . I run 30 lb braid with no issues un like someone said above . We pull up 15 lb Grouper and Red Snapper all day long with these reels .And have even caught a few sharks again with no issues . I will be purchasing another round of these in the near future . P.S. I am not sponsored by Shimano and pay the same price as everyone else so no Bias here .
Amazon Customer : Product sucks and customer service sucks
This product sucks and customer service is worst, the reel was fine for a month then it broke down, i had no drag and couldn't even do something as simple as jigging. I don't recommend this product and please don't buy from ABCD
Amazon Customer : Great reel!
Great reel !!!!
Wasn't sure about the big handle over long periods of time. But now the other ones feel too small. It's a shimano, so as usual, it's a smooth drag on a reel that gives me no problems.
It actually makes me want to fish more.
What more could I ask ??
Omar : great quality
well i just un-boxed my shimano socorro reel 5000sw. i cant wait to try it out. just by feel so far seems like really good quality.

EAJr : May not work with braided line. Design flaw.
I’ve had a chance to use this reel extensively this spring. It might work for mono but a significant design flaw makes it a total fail for braided line. With almost each cast braid line gets stuck in the mechanism I’ve highlighted in the photo.
Totally annoying. If I could return this reel I could. I might have to convert it to mono for my little girl to use as a surf rod.
**** Update**** I’ve put a different brand of braid line on this rod, which seems to mitigate the problem . I use 30lb braid.
Jack : Heavy duty for salt water.
Heavy duty for salt water. Feels really solid. I bought it for catfish, I think it might be a little overkill for that but I'd rather it be too large than too small. I would buy this again.

Excelente producto, muy suave, calidad precio.!
Amazon Customer : Schmoove
Smooth as butter like Matts said (Fisherman's Life) only thing I dislike is the handle.
William S. : Good reel - after a little work
I got the reel and the bail just was't working right, so I took apart the bail spring and greased it and put it back together. Still was hard to flip the bail and thumped with every crank. So I took off the spool and the rotor and found a rubber o ring/gasket laying on top of the bail trip. I tucked that back behind the bail trip where I think it was supposed to go and put the reel back together. After that the reel worked smooth, just like the rest of the shimano reels I use. Now looking forward to using next week in the Dry Tortuga's.
grs : Great service. Thank you.
Love the product. Used it for surf fishing.
gabriel : carrete shimano
