Is the drag sealed and ok to use in saltwater?

Answer: Thank you for your mail. The reel does have a sealed drag. be sure to rinse with fresh water after every use. If you have any other fishing questions please feel free to call me at 208-887-4863 and lets talk fishing.

Answer: Great question. The Redington Rise III Fly Reel does have a sealed drag that can be used for Saltwater fishing. We would recommend that after every use, that the spool and the frame of the reel be rinsed with clean tap water for additional care. Answer: Hi - as an anodized aluminum reel this reel is okay to use in saltwater with a daily rinse after fishing (like any saltwater reel).

Where are these reels manufactured?

Answer: Designed in the US, Made in Korea.

It says $134.99 in the color option but when gou select it and it pulls.out to maim screen its $150.34. what's the deal with that?

Answer: Not sure, except some colors are rarer and company slightly higher prices. But don’t take my word for that.

Does this reel come with a reddington cover for the reel?

Answer: Yes, it does come with a padded Redington reel pouch.

Is the Redington Rise 3 reel seat where it connects to the fly rod riveted or screwed on?

Answer: The reel foot is screwed on with two small Phillips-head screws. The drag knob is not plastic. It's machined and anodized aluminum like the rest of the reel. The current diecast reel models (Run and Behemoth) may have plastic drag knobs, but not the Rise.

Can it be converted to left hand?

Answer: Yes it can… Most fly reels can be converted from right to left… I’m fairly certain there are instructions detailing how to do it, and it’s not difficult.

Answer: Yes, instructions are included. Please note that the instructions posted here under "RETRIEVAL CONVERSION" are not correct for the current Rise model (aka Rise 3), which has the one-way bearing housed in the reel frame and not in the reel spool. (Those instructions may work for the previous versions.)

Do I pick my color based on the picture or the label? Black and amber mixed up

Answer: Unfortunately it looks like Amazon has the Images/Color labels mixed up and there isn't a good way for a seller like us to fix it. I would recommend doing it by label, but I would confirm with the seller after the order to be sure you're getting the color you wish to get.

Answer: Purchase the reel by the designation on the box. Olive is beautiful if you have a coordinating rod, but so is the amber and black. The Rose gold is a bit chintzy looking.

Answer: I bought the one that said black, but it was only a replacement spool so make sure you truly read the description. I then bought one that was described as olive and received an olive reel. I ended up keeping the black replacement spool along with my olive reel and I love it

Is this the rise 3 model?

Answer: Not sure what you mean by Rise 3...it is the RISE, and you can specify which weight reel you want to purchase... 3/4 or 5/6 or 7/8...it's a really nice reel - I would recommend it!

Answer: Yes, this version is also known as the Rise 3 (or III), meaning that there were two previous versions. The earlier versions had spools that were ported with either round or oval holes. Those spools will not fit the current model. However, spools for the current Rise (version 3/III) will interchange with the current Redington Run reel. The Run is basically a cast version of the machined (barstock) Rise.

What is the empty weight of his reel?

Answer: It depends on the size; the 5/6 is 4.6 ounces. The Reddington web site has the weight of all the sizes. You can find slightly lighter reels, but it is light enough for practical purposes and you won’t find a better freshwater reel for the price. The drag is excellent and has low inertia so you can use it with big fish like steelhead with light tippets without breaking off when you first hook the fish.

It’s saying the black is the Amber and Amber is the black on the photo discription. Which is which?

Answer: The caption/description seems to be the truth -- add the reel that says "black" with the amber photo to your cart, and it shows a black reel added. All that said, someone should fix this ...

The dimensions of the reel are shown as 5x5x6. Is it truly 6 inches across the face of the reel?

Answer: The reel is actually 4 5/8" round at the spool 5 1/2" including the reel seat and the spool is 1 1/2" wide. With the reel handle, the reel spool is 2 1/2" wide.

this is a very small reel; you can't hold a full backing , and we also had to cut 10 yards off the floating #3 line or it would not fit on the reel. That shocked me. as a long time avid fly fisher, I have never had such design "shortages" with any other reel. The reel looks beautiful, and has nice features, but the most important one is to hold the line and backing for my #3 line, which it could not do.

Delivery was superb, packaging condition was excellent and the reel is fantastic. I've bought a 3/4 wt to match my 3 wt Moonshine Drifter rod and they complement each other. It is a nice looking reel, relatively silent and the drag is great. I used it for small common carp fly fishing and I am extremely happy with the product. I will definitely buy another one for my 8 wt rod.

The rise is a nice bored out reel. Very light and performs well. The drag is overkill but nice sublte range on the light end. I havent slammed it on any boulders yet nor have i tested the drag to prolonged abuse. For the money im quite pleased. If you have a few extra bucks get a tourque!

L.M. Mo. : Great Reel for the price, really good drag and very smooth.

I used it for my Steelhead fishing in size 7-8 weight, it works very well if not great. Drag is very good, very strong.
Pulled couple of big fish with it and had no issues with the drag, it holds the fish in place well yet will allow for smooth drag and no broken lines. I am very impressed, pulled a nice Lake Brown I thought I was going to loose, and the reel did the job. It works, and it works really good. Can't go wrong on the price either, for the money it is a great reel.
Now, I only have about 100' of Dacron for backing, and RIO Steelhead line and I am all about maxed-out with the reel capacity, so make sure you have just enough Dacron to keep your reel spinning with the line attached.
If you going to use some switch lines, you will have to up-size to the next bigger reel to maintain capacity and be able to actually use the reel.
Great for the money, and really good positive and smooth drag.
Will buy it again.

Excellent reel for a Syndicate or other lightweight nymph rod. Holds 100ft backing plus a 90ft line and 20 leader/tippet.
Redington, Sage and Rio all sold by the same company in the same location by the same employees - their main office in Washington State - You do the math!

I've only used this reel once for salmon fishing in the lake Ontario tributaries in New York State. I found the reel to be very smooth both reeling in and line going out under drag. Great retrieval rate.

RISE III - gorgeous, light, simple, and effective. Size 5/6 in green. Spent the last 4 days in tough conditions, crawling over sierra granite and putting the reel through a lot of abuse - the anodizing is tough enough that the finish remains largely pristine. Very cold - line guides on the rod kept icing up, wet/icy line didn't seem to bother the reel at all. Didn't freeze up, drag seemed unaffected.
