Black Anodized Machined Aluminum Housing ("Hard Bodyz" Body & Side Cover)
Daiwa BG is equipped with a machined aluminum body and body cover providing strength and internal part stability. To increase the strength in the form of corrosion and scratch resistance, Daiwa has Black Anodized the body and body cover. The anodization process allows for better adhesion to the aluminum and will not chip or peel like a painted surface, extending the brilliant look of the BG spinning series.
OVER-SIZED DIGIGEAR (DIGIGEAR SYSTEM)
Daiwa BG spinning series have integrated the largest drive gear in the history of Daiwa spinning reels. The benefit to having this oversized gear increases gear-tooth contact points, this provides smoother and extended gear life as well as more power and increased torque.
| | |
Solid Screw-In Handle Daiwa’s Screw-in-Handle design provides zero movement or play between the main gear and handle arm. This lack of movement offers the angler both confidence and control when rotating the handle. | AIR ROTOR The Air Rotor weighs up to 15% less than ordinary rotor designs. Its unique shape reduces unnecessary weight while distributing stress more evenly throughout the rotor for maximum strength. | ABS SPOOL The ABS spool's maximized core diameter and reversed taper mean 100% useable line. No "dead" line buried in a deep core. You can fill it with line right up to the edge of the spool lip without fear of tangles. ABS cause less casting friction for longer and easier casting. The huge spool diameter line flow freely in larger coils and produces less line memory coil. Smaller spool diameter means line flows in tighter coils as well. |

Questions about Daiwa BG2500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, 2500, 5.6: 1 Gear Ratio, 6+1 Bearings, 33.20" Retrieve Rate, 13.20 lb Max Drag,Black/gold
Q:
Is it really the 2017, because the price is higher most places
Answer: I'm not sure about that but at this price you get a lot for your money, it comes in a red box. I used this yesterday surf fishing I was surprised how smooth this reel is in part because of the main gear where the handle is screwed in is much larger than reels in this class and smooth as silk, Bass pro shops and others sell the Diawa product at a much higher price it's about how much profit they need to make.Remember Amazon has the best return policy in the industry which I have used in the past.
Q:
Where can I get parts
Answer: I would try Daiwa's customer support .
Q:
What size is 140 yds/10lbs? Is it 2000 or 2500?
Answer: 2500
Q:
How much in MYR
Answer: A Daiwa BG 3000 is approximately 375.00 MYR or 90.00 US Dollars
Answer: Can’t answer that
Q:
Size "unit"? what's that suppose to mean? bg 2500 reel? help please. why can't it just say bg 2500?
Answer: "Unit" is the reel. you select to buy 1 unit {1 reel}, 2 units {2 reels} etc.
Answer: Just their fancy way of saying it I guess, lol
Answer: was a present but they like it
Answer: Can’t answer
Q:
What size reel would be best for freshwater lake/river fishing for fish ranging from bluegill to rainbow trout? The 2500?
Answer: I Think The BG 2500 Would Be Overkill For Bluegill. It's A Pretty Stout/Tank Of A Reel. I Think They Make A 1500/2000 Size BG. I Would Go With One Of Those Sizes. Very Very Nice Reel!!!!!
Answer: BGs are large reels. I think the 1500 or 2000 would be a better choice for light freshwater. They are about an ounce lighter than the 2500.
Answer: It would depend on the rod youre pairing it up with but the 2500 is a solid choice. Just be aware that the daiwa bg 2500 is the same size as a 4000 or 5000 size on a different brand
Answer: The 2500 is a good all around freshwater size.
Answer: Not really a freshwater reel
Answer: I would say yes. Definately.
Q:
Best rod for BG 2500?
Answer: Any Graphite rods from 6'-7' will match the size for that reel. There are lots of rods in the market but in my opinion, Fenwick and St. Croix rods are good recommended.
Q:
What is best size for inshore bay fishing 10 to 12 lb line. 6 to 7 ft rod? Also could use rod recommendation.
Answer: For lite inshore fishing you can use the 3000 size to handle all the snook, redfish and trout you could ever encounter, but should do the 4000 if you plan on tarpon and sharks as well. Either can use 30 to 40 lb braid which is the same diameter as 8 to 12 monofilament. I am an Ugly Stick fan for low cost softer rods or the Sunami Air rods for a faster slightly more expensive rod.
Answer: I use the BG 3000 with 20 lb braid and a 6’ 6” rod for inshore kayak fishing and it works great!
Answer: I fish out of a Kayak. A Daiwa BG is hard to beat, for a reel under $100
Answer: 12 is good just in case you might snag something big on the bottom like a stingray and a 7 ‘ rod to cast out farther
Answer: BG 4000
Q:
What size would you say would be perfect for fishing freshwater largemouth bass 12 to 15 pounds?
Answer: 2500 or 3000. But where are you gonna catch that size bass? I recently caught 11 SMB in excess of 4# up to 5.4 on a 2000 with 6# floro. 13 fishing omen black 7'. Smooth drag an good rod. No problem.
Answer: You're fishing a super "honey hole" if you have expectations of regularly hooking 12-15lb bass! I catch 18lb bluefish and 25lb stripers with my BG3000 so a 2500 or 3000 will be more than adequate for your needs.
Answer: The BG 2500 is perfect!
Q:
How can the 1500 weigh more than the 2500? Look at the descriptions!
Answer: It's not true. 1500 weights 8.5 oz. and 2500 9.3 oz. See Daiwa's page.
Answer: I don't know where you got your information. 1500 is 8.5oz and 2500 is 9.3oz. You better check Daiwa website.
Q:
How do I fix the play in my reel handle? I just tried spoiling it and it’s bad?
Answer: Sounds War out just get a new one or take it to a shop
Q:
What does "Manual return bail" on larger reels mean?
Answer: Any thing past the 4000 model you have to manualy return the bail after casting...when you go to cast you flip the bail and it locks in place...you cast...the models 4000 and lower when you crank the handle the bail flips automatically any model above 4000 you have to manually flip the bail in place to retreive your line
Answer: Manual return bail on any reel means that you must close the bail not by turning the handle, but by pulling the bail closed.
Answer: You have to close the bail with your hand, it doesn’t shut when you crank the handle.
Q:
What is the last unit just the reel 2500bg?
Answer: Yes just the reel
Q:
Can it be used for trout and bass fishing? Will the 1500 fit on a 7ft medium
Answer: Never tried this on a 7' rod, but 6' and 6.5' rods both work great. Have used it for smallmouth and also for landlocked stripers. Might be too heavy for trout, unless you're in waters with large fish. Works great. Smooth retrieve and line plays out nicely.
Answer: I have a 3500 reel on my 7 foot 6 inch Daiwa travel rod. I guess a 1050 reel would fit your 7 foot rod. You may want to buy 2500 or a 3000 reel.
Answer: this reel can be used for trout and bass and a 7'rod is perfect
Answer: Yes and yes
Q:
Does this reel come with a an extra spool?
Answer: It does not come with an extra spool.
Answer: No extra spool.
Answer: No extra spool is included.
Answer: No it doesn't. Been a long time since I've seen any reels come with a spare.
Answer: No , no reels that I know of do these days
Answer: No but you should be able to buy spare spools separately
Answer: No. It’s rare to find one that does these days.
Answer: No
Q:
Can I pair the BG 4000 with a MH (not surf rod, 8-16# line rating), 7'6" rod, or is the reel too big to balance with it? What about a M 7'1" rod?
Answer: I paired it with a 7foot tiger ugly stik but I recently upgraded to a 9foot surf rod. I can cast about 3 times father now. I guess it depends on the application of what you’re doing and what you’re fishing for. What will you primarily use this setup for? The 7ft mh rod would be a good utility bottom fishing setup
Answer: I think it will be okay.
Q:
Is the 2500 the Japan or US version?
Answer: Usa
Q:
What size is this one
Answer: I have the 6500, it is quite large, the 2500 would be the equivalent to a bass fishing reel in size. Good for 5-15 pounders.
Answer: It's a 2500 size.
Answer: This size is 2500
Answer: The size is 2500
Answer: BG2500 H / ML 6+1 5.6:1 33.2" 9.3 6/210, 8/170, 10/140
Q:
Would the 2500 be good for a mojo inshore 7'6" rod?
Answer: I have several set up with 7’ rods. It’s my favorite reel for durability, ease of casting and maintenance.
Q:
Did you got in package washers for reel line adjustment?
Answer: No I have 2 of them and it dose not come with extra parts
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is the "140yds/10lb" model the BG2500?
Answer: I think so, but scroll down to the specs part, it'll tell you the exact model number. Itll be either the bg2500 or the bg3500
Q:
What pound braid should be used on a 2500 for bluegills, bass, and small cats?
Answer: I use 30 for bass
Answer: is a very strong reel with a line of 25lb would go quite well
Q:
I want the bg 2500 size... Don't you have?
Answer: Depends on what your going for I have 5000 that’s all ok run on mine but I only fish salt water
Q:
I’m confused - i bought a bg 2500 a yr. ago, super smooth! just bought exact same bg 2500 but not nearly as smooth! should i return?
Answer: I bought two bg reels, different sizes and both are super smooth. I would open the spool very gently and make sure it is seated correctly. If that doesn’t resolve the problem I would return it for a replacement.
Answer: I would, I bought a 3500 recently and it was just as smooth as my first. Sounds like a manufacturing problem, I would get a new one to make sure
Answer: Drag washer could be defective or not sitting in there correctly. Change out the washer with your other BG and see how it rolls. You can also order more resilient and smoother washers. Also you can change the handle to the opposite side and sww if you still have issues. If none of this works...yes, seek a replacement. I am assuming you are using the same line and type of rod. Line drag on rod eyes can sometimes be noticeable.
Answer: There is some noise when reeling mine. But honestly it doesn’t bother me. I have the bg 8000
Q:
Is the 2500 a L/R reel handle?
Answer: Either or switchable handle
Q:
Is it normal for my handle to jiggle a little on 2500 bg reel in either side?
Answer: No jiggle on my two 6500s. I believe they have a washer in there that you may be missing.
Answer: Nope.
Answer: No. You should tighten it counter clockwise and it should stay firm.
Q:
Best size for a 9’ medium action surf rod?
Answer: This 2500 is probably too small for surf casting. I use their 4500 on a 9’ medium heavy surf casting rod and it balances well.
Answer: HI,
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I use 10ft rod good for that
Answer: Smallest I’d go is a 8000. Maybe a 9000
Q:
Why is there a space between my handle and reel?
Answer: Is your handle screwed down all the way? Maybe a bur or cross threaded stopping you from seating the handle
Answer: I bought this as a gift. I don’t know ????♀️
Q:
Size pen battle
Answer: It’s about the same as a Penn 3000
Q:
How many reels come in the section titled unit. not the one that says 1 unit
Answer: One reel
Answer: One
Q:
Will the 2000 size be available?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Why do all my bgs get so many wind knots as opposed to my nasci's? i love my bg's for flats and saltwater fishing! they're low maintenance, but knots!
Answer: I own at least 6 BGs in 2500 and 3500 sizes. I rarely have a wind knot issue. What line are you using and how are you loading the line onto your reels?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I use a BG2500 and a Stradic 3000 with 10 lb Powerpro and a 20 lb fluoro leader. I haven't noticed any difference in wind knots with either reel. If you use more than 10 lb test on a 2500 reel you will likely have wind knot problems.
Answer: Not sure. All spinning reels are prone to backlash. Check to see if the reel is over spoiled. There should only be a 1/8 lip between the edge of the spool and top
Answer: I let the drag off
Q:
When you flip the bail then turn the handle does the bail flip back on its own?
Answer: That's a big NO. But don't let this deter you. The way I look at it is, if you need a automatic flip down bail then you are also not capable of operating a fillet knife which would require you to hold a fish and cut into it without killing yourself. What is wrong with our Trumped up, Iphone loving, global warming denying society ? I will tell you... automatic bails.
Answer: nope. all manual
Q:
where made ?
Answer: They are made in China or other far eastern countries. Only the most expensive Diawa models are made in Japan.
Answer: "Made in China" appears on the underneath side of the foot. Good reel though.
Answer: I have heard made in Japan but shipped worldwide from China but cannot verify that
Q:
Would the 2500 size be appropriate for freshwater fishing - bass, walleye, panfish, etc? Or would the 2000 be a better size?
Answer: For bass and walleye, get a 2500 - 3000.
Q:
which one is the 2500? The size drop down has 4 incorrect models
Answer: the 2500 is smallest size for that reel ,the 6500 is the 2 biggest size of the the smaller one is still good for smaller fish
Answer: Incorrect models? I bought three 4,000’s and a 1500 and love them!
Q:

Answer: Absolutely
Q:
Is it normal for my handle to jiggle a little on 2500 bg reel in either side?
Answer: No jiggle on my two 6500s. I believe they have a washer in there that you may be missing.

Answer: "Unit" is the reel. you select to buy 1 unit {1 reel}, 2 units {2 reels} etc.
Answer: Just their fancy way of saying it I guess, lol
Answer: was a present but they like it
Answer: Can’t answer
Q:
Can you buy extra spools for the bg 2500 ?
Answer: Spare spools for the BG series reels should be readily available, although somewhat pricy, from Daiwa parts department and dealers. At least in theory. Google "Daiwa BG 2500 spool" and hope for the best. There are many complaints on the internet concerning parts availability and factory support for the otherwise excellent BG series reels.
Answer: Yes!
Q:
Is this ambidextrious?
Answer: Mario, Yes. Very simple to switch handle one side to the other. This is a great reel.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes
Q:
Is the bg 2500 the same at the bg spin 6 + 1, 5.6:1?
Answer: Yes it has the same gear ratio and bearing.
Answer: based upon the line capacity, I would say so....just a guess though.
Q:
What is the actual weight of the Daiwa BG 2500
Answer: 9.3 oz
Answer: 8.5oz
Q:
I work with power pro braided 15 lb, which size i need? Tnx
Answer: 15 lb Power Pro would be fine with the BG2500. Generally, it's a good idea to consider what you are fishing for, then match a rod and reel to the task, then spool the line appropriate for the rod and reel. The 2500 will hold plenty of 10, or 15 lb PP to handle fish appropriate to target for that size reel.
Answer: 30 lb braid always gives me peace- of-mind especially for saltwater. Power pro works great but I have had quality issues. I Found FINS to be some of the best braid out there.
Q:
The handle a left/ right handle ?
Answer: Handle is interchangeable.
Answer: Either. It’s a reversible handle
Answer: Handles are easily switched to either side.
Answer: Not sure that I see that question in your statement but yes.....the handle can be switched to either side.
Answer: It’s interchangeable and mine came right handed out of the box
Answer: Which ever side you want. It unscrew and you can switch it pretty quick with no tools.
Answer: I think it is interchangeable.
Q:
I bought mine at walmart before amazon dropped ithem price $10. how can you tell if your reel is a fake? desc. said brand bg
Answer: Just look at the name of the brand if it said Daiwa BG than it's the real thing, but if it just said BG than it could be fake because other companies can list their products as BG, but they can't copy the name of the company name.
Answer: If Walmart or Amazon or any honest store sells you a Daiwa BG, it’s real!
Product reviews of Daiwa BG2500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, 2500, 5.6: 1 Gear Ratio, 6+1 Bearings, 33.20" Retrieve Rate, 13.20 lb Max Drag,Black/gold
Steve : The best reel on the planet
I have the BG in multiple sizes. I would say the most versatile size would be 3500 for salt water fishing. The drag is super smooth and strong enough to tackle 40 inch inshore fish. The reel is a little on the heavier side so you might want to invest in a 2500 or 3000 size for swimbaits and jerkbaits for sightfishing to give you arm a rest.
Ray Holston : Durable, smooth and bullitproof
This is a rock solid reel. I haven't fished in 20 years. My 10 year old daughter loves to so I bought this reel with a berkley lighting rod. What great balance and easy to cast. It is way easier than casting the reels of 20 yrs ago. Also I can break a steel beam if I touch it and this little reel is holding up nice. Some say it is heavy. Its a .5oz to an once heavier than this other reel. If you are that weak that you can tell a difference you should stop fishing and check yourself into assisted living. I also really line that the wire on the bail is thicker than on other brands. Some look like a modified paperclip but this one is thick and sturdy. I would pay 200 for this reel just don't tell daiwa.
Garza family : Smoooooth drag and action
Bought this reel for a new AIRDX rod that I got a good deal on and wow! This thing is smooth, drag is smooth, and looks great too. It matched perfectly with my Daiwa rod and looks like they belong together. I spooled it with about 200yds or 10lb super slick(2500 size) and it handled slot reds with ease! Highly, highly recommend this reel in a 2500 for inshore fishing.
Amazon Customer : Daiwa BG Very Nice Reel
I Purchased The Daiwa BG 2500 Liking it Very Much. But Unfortunately, The Size Was Too Heavy for My Rods. Did Not Balance Well. It's Built Nice, and Like a Tank! Did Not Use it, But I Know With the Proper Rod, Would Make a Very Nice Fishing Combo. I Received it On Time, and Packaged Well. I Would Recommend, and Buy Again!
Jason : Not as smooth as my pfluger (which was cheaper) but still pretty smooth. 20lb braid on mine seems to be ...
Got this for saltwater river fishing near my downtown area. Not as smooth as my pfluger (which was cheaper) but still pretty smooth. 20lb braid on mine seems to be a bit stiff and get loose on the reel and knot up a little. Not sure why yet but don't have that problem on my other reels. Seems like a great bang for your buck reel but a lot of the reviews online have this overhyped in my opinion.
Clay W. : Light, smooth, quiet, best reel I own
I've been fishing with this reel about a year and I love it! Its paired with a duckett rod.
Super light, smooth, no issue no grinding or scrubbing, very balanced. Iv caught bass up to 10lbs on it handle it no prob. Absolutely amazing reel.
Gregory Remeslennik : Strong, light, reliable and secure.
On my first day of fishing with this real I catch 43 pounds of a black shark from the peer. Awesome reel. Will by one more!
Galen P. : Beat reel, let's see how the test of time goes
Seems like an awesome reel, definitely the nicest I've fished with. Just haven't used it much yet so now it needs to stand the test of time and the salt water
Edie M. Scruggs : Punches above its weight class.
I purchased this 2500 for COHO on the river. Really nice balance on a steelhead rod. I paired it with a OKUMA GUIDE SELECT rod. The black and gold goes well with the conservative black and gold rod colors. I am just too old for the flash bling of some of the gear. Awesome reel performance. Holds one 164 yard spool of Berkely 20# braid. Casts are beautiful and smooth. Spools line up perfectly. Drag performs flawlessly. Really nice real at this price point.
An B. : Great reel for the price but prone in quality control
The reel is small, light, and smooth. However the reel anti-reversed does not work. As I set the hook or pull hard on the line with sudden jerk motion, the rotor rotates backward like I set the reverse selector.
Amazon Customer : Favorite reel I own
I finally bought this reel after reading many reviews of people boasting about it. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this reel. It is made beautifully and functions as if it were a reel that is twice the price. I will definitely be buying another one soon. 99% of my fishing is done inshore for Reds, trout and snook so I purchased the 2500. I’ll probably buy the 3500 or 4000 next time to put on my larger rod. You won’t be disappointed with it.
Christian B. : BG's are king!
I now own three different size Daiwa BG and I truly appreciate all of them a lot! Their price does not reflect their performance, they most absolutely feel and handle like a reel twice their price. My favorite is the 2500, it flat out handles any fish I've caught on it so far and it does so with style, I'm hoping to add some more heavy-weight fish for my 4500 to give it a reel run for the money ;)
I recently got the 1500 to use for my ultra-light, haven't caught fish on it, but the reel it retired (not defect but garbage..) is in comparison not comparable, much smoother and I like the added weight! My only wish was that Daiwa made the BG's in 750 size, that would be really cool.
As far as weight goes, they are a bit heavier, I personally like that, the reel feels solid and you know it's made of actual quality materials.
Pairings:
2500 -> 7' Light St. Croix premier, 10/10
4500 -> 7' Uggly stick, 7.5/10
1500 -> 6' UL St. Croix trout, 8.5/10
Silas&Griffin : Works wonderfully for freshwater
Originally I Purchased for salt water, but I ordered the wrong size. I have the 2500 which is actually a great size/most common freshwater spinning reel.
I have it on a 6‘8“ bass pro shop fish eagle one piece rod.
Running 6 pound flourocarbon
poppop1234 : Good quality
Great reel for the money.
Josh : Fantastic Reel
I bought the BG2000 and love it so I picked up the BG2500 and it’s just as good with more drag. The 2500 is the same size as the 2000 except the handle is larger. Definitely pairs well with a medium heavy rod. As always daiwa is the way to go
craig wieder : just what i was looking for. I ordered it ...
just what i was looking for. I ordered it on Sunday and got that following Thursday just before the weekend. Thanks
Absolutely amazing reel.
ken schilling : Good quality
Nice reel great price
Crissypooh : I'm glad I made the purchase
I have only used it once for about a 10 hour day of fishing. I was wade fishing near Arroyo City, Tx. for specks, reds and flounder. 1/2 way through the day I slipped in a hole and completely dunked the reel in salt water. I kept using it and it never missed a beat. It reminded "smooth like buttah!"
I got home after the trip and dunked it in fresh water for about 10 minutes, dried it then lubed the line roller, greased the top and bottom of the spool and lubed the handle (all in all about 7 minutes of maintenance) and it's still oh so smooth.
I also caught about 10 or so fish... Nothing major, but my line was tight, my drag sang a couple of times and the reel is excellent!
EDIT: 05-04-19
Ive taken it out and have put about 50-60 more hours on this reel. Ive caught quite a few more slot reds and trout. I've dunked 2 more times by acccident when wade fishing. I clean it with fresh water and oil it regularly and it runs smooth. I really like this reel. I have faith in it and my Fin-Nor Lt25. Both great reels.
Josh : Fantastic Reel
I bought the BG2000 and love it so I picked up the BG2500 and it’s just as good with more drag. The 2500 is the same size as the 2000 except the handle is larger. Definitely pairs well with a medium heavy rod. As always daiwa is the way to go
Aaron Adams : Best real on the market for the price
I Love this fishing reel so much I bought the PG 1500 the BG 2000 the BG 2500 And the BG 3500 just to start off my collection I will definitely buy all of the BG series
None : Good Reel, Excellent Value
I'm impressed with this reel even though I've only owned it a short time. I have a number of Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000 & 4000 series reels which are more than twice the cost of this Dawai 2500 reel. I wanted some less expensive rod/reel setups, and this reel seems well made, especially when compared to similar priced reels.
I bought this directly from the seller, and used Amazon pay. That saves you $3.
Lance L. : Five Stars
This reel is awesome. Definitely can tell the quality difference in reels in it’s price range.

Good
Larry Strickland : Smooth as silk
I like this reel better than the one it replaced. Casts great with my 7’ rod. The operation is so smooth.
A good purchase.
Lorne Hargis : Meets Expectations
Bought it for fluking. Not disappointed. Lightweight and easy reeling.
James Austin minor : Solid, killer reel.
You can’t beat a BG when it comes to strength and durability. The 2500 cranked in this 33” snook no problem. Butter smooth drag. The only two (Very minor) cons to me is that there is an anti reverse switch that can sometimes accidentally get disengaged. Daiwa should ditch that. And second, the bail spring could utilize more of a positive return (Like a Penn) when flipped back to closed. Other than that, it’s a killer reel.
Gregory Remeslennik : Strong, light, reliable and secure.
On my first day of fishing with this real I catch 43 pounds of a black shark from the peer. Awesome reel. Will by one more!
Brandon Dethrow : Ascetically pleasing reel
I already own the Daiwa BG 4000 and I love it. Hopefully the 2500 will hold up just as well. Ascetically the reel looks awesome. I've paired it with the Daiwa Aird-X 7 foot pole, and its probably the coolest looking setup I own. I cant wait to get them out on the water to test them out.
Amazon Customer : Probably my best inshore reel
Smooth , strong drag , casts a mile what else can I say except worth the price . I only gave it a 4 for durability since I haven’t had it too long , but so far I’m happy .
Mr. Crunchy : Great Reel and Great Value
I have the 2500 version, spooled it with 15# braid and a 30# flouro shock leader for salt/surf fishing on a 7' rod. Used it for the first time this weekend and the reel is excellent. My first Diawa; I have Penn's and Shimano's that I have used for years and for the money, the Diawa BG is superior. Can't comment on durability yet, but the reel is very smooth, casts great, drag system is easy to use and adjust even when fighting a fish. I'd compare this reel to $200 reels from other brands. For the size, other on-line reviews I read said the BG's were larger than others (as in the BG 2500 might be equivalent to a 3-4000 from Shimano or Penn). I have a couple of Shimano 2500's and the BG 2500 is pretty much the same size, maybe half a tick bigger. There might be more of a difference in the larger sizes.
Bottom line- great reel, especially for the money. I'll update this as time goes on for maintenance, durability, life, but as of now, I'm very pleased.
Update: after multiple saltwater trips, this is my go-to reel for surf and inshore. Rinse and oil every time, no problems. Smooth and strong. Would for dang sure buy again. Great reel. Highly reccomend.
EddieS : Great reel
Can go wrong for the price Works flawlessly
MAli : a solid reel
I use it for spinning and I am very happywith it. I recommend
bennygonefishing : Great Value for the Money
This is a great value for the money. It’s extremely smooth & rated better than the Shimano Nasci. I’ve only used the reel for a few months so I’m anxious to see how durable it is. This is an exceptional Diawa model reel thus far. This has not always been my experience with this brand.

Pairings:
2500 -> 7' Light St. Croix premier, 10/10
4500 -> 7' Uggly stick, 7.5/10
1500 -> 6' UL St. Croix trout, 8.5/10
Larry Strickland : Smooth as silk

A good purchase.
An B. : Great reel for the price but prone in quality control
The reel is small, light, and smooth. However the reel anti-reversed does not work. As I set the hook or pull hard on the line with sudden jerk motion, the rotor rotates backward like I set the reverse selector.
Bridget Bentz : Five Stars
My husband loves it He can't wait to put it to use .. Thank you
Tonya : Love it!
My son and I love this reel. Very smooth. I will purchase one for myself soon.

Amazon Customer : Great Reel at A Great Price
Totally awesome. Used this for saltwater applications and never had an issue. Drag is smooth and is not choppy. Would recommend.
Judilynn Sanzone : He loved it.
I bought as a gift for my son, and attached to PLUSINNO telescopic Fishing Rod retractable. He loved it.
Absolutely amazing reel.
dlgator : Daiwa Bg 2500 Spinning Reel - awesome
These are good reels and you won't be let down. I have bought 3 so far.
UP-DATE - Just bought 2 more. They're awesome.
