Ok. So here it is. I am not sure if this has ever been done before. If it has, I'm not aware of it. The idea came to me when my buddy and I were kicking around ideas on making a 100% weedless jig. While this is not actually a jig, it's not exactly a flordia rig either. So unless this already has a name, I'm calling it the Louisiana Rig. Every other state gets one...I want my home state to have a bait too
So yeah, basically it's a flordia rig weight (bullet weight with bait holders on it) with a skirt on it. So far it's tested successfully in a total of 6 lakes.
Let me know what y'all think. I'm going to make more colors later on down the road and I'm going to build one with a rattle collar later on this week and try it out. That's the X3
Here is where the fun comes in. If you have a name for the lure itself, post it up on here. The top 5 names will go to a poll on the forum where the members can vote on their favorite name. Winner of the contest will get a few free ones on me and I'll eat the shipping cost. Sound good?
Alright, go ahead and critique it. If this already exists, let me know before I get sued for copyright infringement lol
Looks interesting to me.
8-)
My buddy tried to do something like that, but your approach is much simpler and I am sure, much more effective! I like it!
It's like the Owner Sled head which has a groove on the head to attach a skirt.
But with your rig, you have the option of using what ever hook you want to match your trailer. Looks good!
I kind of did that over the summer. I cannot remember what they are called. In the saltwater section at BPS they have a weight with a skirt already attached, I was using it ahead of a straigh forward rigged gycb
QuoteIn the saltwater section at BPS they have a weight with a skirt already attached
I believe what you are talking about are designed for running infront of a live/strip bait while trolling for kingfish. What sets Brain's bait apart is that it has the lock for the trailer.
As far as a name for the bait goes, I say we roll will you screen name and call it Brain's Bait. Then you will have a slick nickname for them. People will be saying, "Dude, I was tototally slaying 'em with a Double B today!"
Brian's Bait, now that's catchy lol.
I am surprised over the replies thus far. I was expecting a "you got us all worked up over a hairy bullet weight?" I'm pretty stoked that people like it thusfar.
I was thinking Brian's Jig but then the acronym would be BJ and I don't want to go into my tackle shop and say "how much for a couple BJs?"
I'm not much of a jig fisherman, but it is a very cool looking concept.
How about the Cajun Critter?
Well your name is Brian and the bait is a big beetle so why not Brians Big Beetle or a Triple B.
Awsome idea.
Brian's Bug?
Yep, I like the looks of that. How much for a couple of em with a white skirt? I like BIG M's idea too but how about "Louisiana Cajun critter" ?Mike
the craw'in creature or the craw'in critter
How about the Salad Jig? Maybe the Salad Shooter, but definitely not the salad tosser.
Jungle Jaw Jacker
Canopy Craw
SCUD Jig
Serpent Jig
Slinky Jig
Delta Craw
or just the " Super Wicked Awesome No Get Stucky Miracle Jig"
QuoteHow about the Salad Jig? Maybe the Salad Shooter, but definitely not the salad tosser.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
This thread is full of WIN!
Good idea!! How about Gallee-nipper for a name? ;D
Y'all are a lot better at this naming stuff than I am. It's gonna be cool when I make a poll out of it lol. Keep the names coming. This is gettin good.
I really appreciate the support and replies. Thanks guys.
As far as if I'm going to sell them, I will. I don't have a white color yet. I guess I should probably get one. I'll fill out an order later today for skirts. I think 1.50 is what I'm going to sell them for (plus shipping) The jigs I made are only 2.99. I'm trying to follow in Brent's footsteps ;D
I thrown these for years it's called a Texas Rigged Jig, Big Red's Flying Jig, or Cyclone Slip-N-Jig; great idea dude to use the Florida Rig Weight the others don't.

check Gopher Tackle's "Worm Dancer".
I prefer adding a skirt to a Brewer's wide gap pro model jig

I knew I'd seen a similar type thing somewhere with a meteorological name. I was looking up tornado, hurricane, thunder...lol
Awesome idea, the other ones you have to peg and your skirts look 10 X better.
I think they look awesome..how do you recomend fishing it?
oo by the way "The Hawg Daddy X2" that just sounds right haha
I would call it "Jessie's Girl"
You could make an ad using a guy with a hung up conventional bass jig saying "You know, I wish that I had Jessie's Girl!"
Seriously.....I would never forget it - that's the whole point of marketing.
I've been fishing them just like a texas rig. Just hopping them around on the bottem. So far, I like spider grub, beaver, and worm trailers (all from ***)
You fish it just like a Texas Rig hence the name Texas Rigged Jig; back in the early 70s we simply stuffed a bullet weight into a skirt. You can use any type plastic with it but I've have the best luck with craw worm or worms.
The original was the Big Reds Flying Jig; if I remember right he was from Shreveport, Louisiana. The bait was simply a spinner bait head with a skirt attached and a cheap hook with a Hitchhiker coil attached; I still have several in my worm box. My most productive color was called Bream Flashes which is black neon/amber/brown skirt with a 5 Gene Larew Hawg Craw in black neon.
You are or were posted at Ft Hood, right?
Call it the Hood Rat. Maybe you could market it to Reaction Innovations
I can hear the marketing pitch now.....short skirt, holds your worm snug, numerous colors and ways to use it for all your wildest dreams LOL
Wayne
HERE IS THE NAME THAT WILL PUT THAT FINE LOOKING BAIT ON THE MAP
THE MOOK SPOOK
