Been on here a while and can't remember a thread like this. The Dirty jigs thread got me thinking this could be pretty cool. Here are mine. The red and white is based on my number one clear water spinnerbait color, worked great. The other two are two different attempts at a perch pattern. My guess is the one with the lighter orange will be the money color, but I created them after the boat was put away. Sorry they are kind of sideways, but the upload turned them.

I tried tying jigs for the first time this winter, using heads from Siebert and Barlow's.Didn't have a clear sense of what I wanted in skirt patterns, so just tried a bunch of different things, some of which came out better than others -- here was the first few I thought came out well:FirstJigs.thumb.jpg.60ba89673774c52d07be

They all look really good, the middle top would work really well on the waters I fish.

Who new there was a tackle making thread, thought the tackle thread was the place to go. Hoping this isn't too much of a duplicate on this thread.

Cool thread! I was searching for something similar to this.

Ive recently begun tying my own skirts on premade heads, and planned to keep it pretty simple as far as skirt combinations go, just these three combinations:

Black&Blue: Two solid black tabs with a half tab of solid blue

Green Pumkin: for this I just bought the "perfect craw" under the living image section on fishingskirts.com. turned out a bit more brown than I wanted but I still like it.

Pb&j: just used the "ultimate pb&j" of off fishingskirts.com.

All of then look really simple, not even really worth posting. I think In the future Im just going to buy a couple different shades of solid colors instead of using the living image selection. Itll feel  a little more custom and be alot cheaper if I buy in bulk and utilize the 40% off.

I tie a lot of jigs for myself every year but I don't usually get too crazy with colors, mainly just the same few colors in various head styles and weights.

Always fun when they end up looking like this!

A couple of my well organized jig boxes.

@Bluebasser86 what exactly is that first jig? Is it a more finesse style jig?

It's a weedless round head like an Eakin's Jig. I pour mine on a heavier hook than what the mold is actually made for though because I was having an issue with hooks bending. So yes, I tie them to be more of a finesse style jig.

fishing user avatarLogan S reply :

I catch more fish on this color than anything else - clear, muddy, shallow, deep...Doesn't matter ;).  Most companies don't make black/green so I just put my own skirts together.  This is on a Siebert dock rocker head.  Most of my 'standard' color jigs are Siebert's these days...But this is still my #1 jig, not really custom though since I'm only doing the skirt.

This color and style jig with a single wire guard is money. Getting a few of the jigs made for me and going to slap my skirts on them.

Those are my #1 producing jig hands down. I like a 5/16oz head with a 4/0 32798BLN Mustad in GP, Brown, Black, Orange, or a combination of those colors.

My mold has been modified to take other hooks like the Owner Deep Throat that I see on some of the jigs above.

I really like your perch imitation, and the amount of orange in it. So many companies put too much orange in their perch imitations, when in reality most wild eating size perch really don't have a lot of orange.

My next order will have a bunch of blue skirting material in it. Getting excited to toss some sapphire blue jigs this summer.

Yes they seem pretty nice, but I haven't fished them yet. I do really like the OutKast heads as well. So far though my favorite swim jig heads are the Santone, because they have a flat bottom that allows them to stand up ok, so I fish them like a standard jig too. Next year is my second year jig fishing so I am going to branch out and try some new stuff.

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Those light wire Omega jigheads are my favorite so far but I am working on my own jighead. The Santone ones have the 5/0 light wire hook that I like and would buy some heads to try if they sold them. Another place you can get heads from is Brovarney and they use a custom Gamakatsu 28 degree hooks.

I have talked with Santone and was told they if you go through them directly you should be able to get just the heads. I never did ask about price, because two of their colors worked well on my local lakes so I just stocked up on them. I would be curious though on what kind of deal they would give you on the heads.
