With the advent of these baits causing a stir, I was challenged by a friend to build my own. I did, it took about 5 minutes for me to fashion it and here it is. Most of that was just thinking about it. Although I was skeptical that the thing would even work as I thought the concept was a gimmick. I've taken 7 bass in the past 2 nights, about 2 hours worth or fishing on it.

What's the copper looking thing? I guess I don't understand a chatterbait :-/
Watch it in action:

Good Job!Nothing like catching them on something you made yourself!Well will you tell us how you conctructed the lip or blade?
Nice Earthworm, looks good...
That's pretty cool.
The blade is simply stamped brass. It is modeled after the old Eagle Claw Eaker Shaker. The very cool thing about this bait is that it doesn't spin or roll over on itself like you see the Chatterbait do in the video. This means no line twist.
But dont you want the blade to spin.
Nope, that will cause line twist unless you use a swivel and I omitted it because I didn't want to use anything in this bait that could cause a weakness. This bait fishes like a crankbait, it puts out a thumping vibration, crankbaits don't spin unless there is something very wrong with them.
I'm not sure the orignal bait has a swivel on it.

How soon are these going to be on your website?

So you tie them on and reel them back? that's it? I like that lol
Found his ebay post on accident... how wierd...

I just searched for jigs and saw that bait thinkin... I've seen that exact one (except color) somewhere... lol
Yep, that one is mine too.
looks like you just punch two holes in a piece of metal, then put a snap through it and the eye of a jig? I STILL can't figure out the contraption on the blade part..thought about it ever since I saw the chatterbait. I'm gonna have to get my hands on one.
More or less, that's it. Like i said earlier, by eliminating the split ring that holds the bait to the blade, like on the original, you eliminate the line twist. I don't know if this bait will have the longevity and fame that the senko has achieved, but at least for the short term, I'm catching a bunch and it's nice to know that they are falling to something I made.
Is your blad flat or concaved?
where did you get the blade...is it like a dodger??? :-?
earthworm,I am curious as to the the comment about the original chatterbait rolling over on itself as you stated earlier in this post.
Could you illaberate please?
What about the split ring?
Thanks in advance!
Owen
take a look at the video on the radlures site. The bait clearly spins....the whole bait, not just the blade. Since there is no swivel, that will cause line twist and problems later on. The blade on the C-B collapses over the hook and at times prevents hookups.
earthworm,
errrr, ummm, bud, the bait does NOT spin. i have quite a few of them, have fished them in shallow & deep water, in lily pads & clear water.
the chatterbait gets it name from the "chatter" it makes as the blade chatters from side to side on retrieve. ...there is NO line twist & the blade does NOT collapse over the hook. or, let me say, mine do not.
hey, i'm not trying to be a smart or make fun of your lure. it's all good! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I got my chatterbaits a few days ago and they do not spin, line twist will not be a problem.
I have been fishing chatterbaits about 4 years now. Dont claim to be an expert on it either.
Reason I asked the question is I have never experienced bait rolling over on itself.
I think the video is a little decieving. What you see in the video is the lure really working side to side especially when you "kick start it"Or slow it down and get back to it really quick.
There is no split ring between the blade and the eye either.
The blade is molded to the head through a ring when the lead is poored. The chatter comes from the blade hitting the head on the side to side action.
Not being a smart *** either.Just that I know the guy that makes the chatterbait and I know how hard he worked on it in designing and marketing. The bait is not sunstandard by any means.
I am sure someone will be able to improve it one day.
The baits with the eaker shaker be it original or modified want even come close to performing like the real chatterbait.
I am not just saying this for the heck of it, It is a fact.
The eaker shaker type blades connected with a split ring will cause the bait to come straight to the top and if not retrieved slow, the bait will roll over quick.
Not trying to cut anybody out of a deal but if you can wait on the original I promise it will be well worth it.
Hope I dont offend anyone.

I just hate to see a comment about the bait being substandard
Not speaking badly of the original chatterbait, it has caught alot of fish for alot of people and gained some recent fame, but I have personally spoken to 2 Elite series pros who both told me that they have fished the chatterbait and both experienced the same problem with the bait, that being losing fish. Both felt that once the fish engulfed the bait the blade folded back toward the hook point and they could not solidly hook the fish. One of the pros had multiple times where he fought a fish all the way to the boat only to have it open it's mouth and the bait came flying out.
As in everything bass fishing related, it's their "theory".
IMO earthworm is not saying the chatterbait is substandard. In his opinion or "theory" he views some things he would do differently, and he has done them in his bait.
just my .02
LOL @ the pwning bestowed upon earthworm77 by owtie.
dude, an eaker shaker is no secret. it's been around for years. the eaker shaker wiggles along like a lame mini-crankbait, while a chatterbait thumps like a rat-L-trap on steroids.
two totally different baits. the eaker shaker can't hold a candle to the chatterbait, imo.
also LOL @ the chatterbait spinning.
