fishing user avatarikebass15 reply :

I would get a boat. i am handicapped to bank, kyayk, and connoe fishing at the time.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Lessee, sell my existing ProV and pickup a used 175hp Vmax mid 90's for around $3500.  New MK Edge 70lb TM. $500.  Finish the front deck extension on the boat $100. 2nd Attwood SAS seat for me the driver $300.  2 new windshields from C&O marine $200. New aluminum modular trailer wheels and Goodyear marathons. $400.  That covers my 5 grand.

Of course, I've got around $1000 from selling my old motor and TM.

Anti-reverse upgrades, ABEC5 bearings and drag washers for my 5 Ambassadeur Ultra Mag and XLT Plus reels - $120.

Penn Roddy 351 spin reel and BPS 7' 2 piece Bionic blade for pier, jetty fishing.  $100

Penn 209M reel and 6' Daiwa boat rod for bottom fishing.  $100.

Weight balancing kits for the rest of my rods - $70

Go through my worm hooks and revamp - $50

New Garmin dash finder with GPS - $500

That's about it.

fishing user avatarFALCON reply :

COULD I BUY GAS FOR MY BOAT? MY 250 MERC EFI HAS QUITE AN APPETITE.

fishing user avatarCraw reply :

I'd have to say that right now I'd buy all new rods and reels. Mine are worn out!

fishing user avatarDaniel My Brother reply :

3 Days of guided trophy bass fishing in Central Florida: $1,500

3 Days of guided trophy bass fishing in El Sato Mexico: $1,500

Airfare, tips, meals, lodging, licenses, etc...$2,000

6 days spent hunting double digit bass: Priceless!

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I sure could use a boat.  I have everything else when it comes to lures, rods, reels, line, etc.....  I just want a boat!!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarBASS fisherman reply :

I would either buy a used bass boat, or put it down on a new one.  If I bought a used boat, I'd use the rest of the money to buy better gear, new rods and reels, a better tackle bag, lots of lures, and the tools to make my own lures such as plastics, cranks, jigs, and spinnerbaits.

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

A boat. That is what I need right now.

fishing user avatarSBM-RL reply :

The stratos 201XL for sale on the marketplace and fix the seat with the rest

fishing user avatarj-bass reply :

This last year I got a $3,500 tax return and promptly spent it on a jon boat, trailer, battery, battery charger, and trolling motor.  Best d**n tax return I ever spent.  If I had 5K now I would get a gas motor for my lil boat.

fishing user avatarWildbillb reply :

I'm with Falcon.  $5000 on fuel for the truck and boat would be great.  That would be lots of on the water time.

fishing user avatarRobDar reply :

at least by me...you will not get much of a boat for $5000...maybe a boat that needs $1000 worth of work...so...

I would put $3000 down on a used boat...that already has a good trolling motor ( so I do not have to buy one...most used boats seem to have too small a TM)

I would spend $400-$500 on two decent graphs...(front and rear..it the boat has graphs already that are worth keeping I would use this money on tackle))

another $400-$500 on some decent reels and decent rods...

I would spend $100 on fram booster air intake system to improve gas mileage and performance of my tow vehicle

and set aside $800-$1000 just in case it ends up the boat needs something...an emergency repair fund as it were...so if something goes wrong I could get it fixed right away and not loose fishing time waiting to get cash together for a repair.

fishing user avatarValascus reply :

As good of a used bass boat 5 g's would get me. If ya sniff around long enough you can find pretty good deals. ;)

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

Imagine the retirement fund you would have if you invested that $5K and left it  alone for the next 50 years.

fishing user avatargatrboy53 reply :

first, i would upgrade my electronics to the best there is console and bow.

second, i would finish upgrading my rods and reels to the set ups i alresdy have.

third, if there is anything left,i would spend it on hi dollar tackle that i wont buy now.

the lord just checked me, first i would tithe 10% $500.00. its all his anyway.

fishing user avatarJoe. S reply :

fishing user avatarliquidsoap reply :

I would say the guided trips that daniel listed.  Sure G loomis rods, curados, and lucky crafts would be nice.  But what are you going to remeber more, buying your stuff and fishing with it, or catching the biggest bass of you life?

Now I want $5000!  :D

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

I would invest it and make a few more bucks off the 5k then buy me a new boat.

fishing user avatarTucson reply :

833.33 bags of Senko's!  Various colors of course. :D

fishing user avatarFlyRod reply :

Well, mebbe a couple more Avids and Chronarch 50MGs. (One for me and one for a fellow basser.) = 900 bux +-

Then, though a little off topic, but relevant to bassing, a week at Amistad for Rebbasser and me. = 2400 bux +- (food, gas, lodging, sunscreen, Beano.)

Tickets to an OU football game. = God knows! Maybe 400 bux, if lucky.

The rest to the Band program at some small and poor school.

Fact!

Sucker at large.

fishing user avatarfishingJ reply :

Build a pond a stock it with trout.

fishing user avatarwhat reply :

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

Rodbender,

You do have a shot at it: I don't. However the young fellow that started this should easily see that and then some. That money earning 5.9% would be just short of 100,000.00.

fishing user avatarTom Bass reply :

I'd get me a trolling motor for my new little fishing boat.

I'd buy that G. Loomis rod and Shimano reel that I have been drooling over..there goes another $900.

I'd buy me a nice fishfinder for each of my two boats. One battery powered,  one fully installed.

and I would buy me a bunch of lures and fishing niceties... :D

fishing user avatarGAMEOVER reply :

that 100k sounds nice but 50 years? No way, stocks, funds, bonds, etc are not for me I wont be living another 50 years and im 23.. id bet on it.

fishing user avatarjomatty reply :

some sort of used bass boat or large john boat that i could renovate.  or i would buy into a poker game and try to win enough to buy a new ranger.

matt

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

I'd probably get a better boat.

fishing user avatarPond Hopper reply :

A couple nice rods and reels, a bigger tackle bag, then either a diamond ring for the old lady or like George said Id invest it so when I retire I could buy the nicest boat out there.  Can never look to far into the future, unless your looking into the grave.

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

The bass don't seem to mind Falcon Rods or Shimano reels, so I'm fine there.

I woud invest in camera equipment.   Got to be some money in good down to earth fishing shows.

Matt.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I'm already fishing out of my "dream boat" since I hooked up with G3 Yamaha.

I have all the rods and reels a guy could need, thanks to Okuma.

My lures and line are all taken care of.......

And $5000 won't buy me a new truck......

So, I would almost certainly buy a 50" LCD TV, an HD-DVD player, and nice surround sound system :-)

The bait monkey would starve, if he had to depend on me ;-) I already have everything I need to catch the fish I'm after.

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarGorgebassman reply :

5k would pay all my tournament fees and road expenses very nicely.

fishing user avatarVito reply :

A divorce, so I could go fishing more often!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'd be 98 years old then, pushing 99.  I suppose I could then afford a really nice gold plated drool bucket, silk depends and afford to have some, young 20 something year old hottie mash up my food and spoon feed me.  Of course, with my eyesight shot I'd be lucky to even see her.

fishing user avatarFishie3 reply :

bass boat..and then fuel....no question!

fishing user avatarjtbassman reply :

I would get a few Lucky Craft...... and that about does it. ;D

fishing user avatartimmyswetarded reply :

dig a big hole in my back yard....fill it with water....and bass....and some cover...and fish....then go out by 2 new rods and reels....left over money goes to lures.....but long term i would actually either end up buying guns or putting it in bonds....both yield some profit

fishing user avatarHooked On Bass Fishing reply :

A boat and some nice new rods and reels.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I'm proud to be the odd man out ;-)

Fish

fishing user avatarbass ackwards reply :

id buy some high dollar rod and reels, take the other 4000 and add it to the sale money from my honda and get a harley

fishing user avatarcraigaria reply :

A new 4-wheeler ;D Opening day of bow season is in 3 weeks!!! ;)

fishing user avatarBanor reply :

Ok so I was fortunate enough to get half of my 15k re-enlistment bonus up front in June.  7500.00 minus Uncle Sam's greedy nubs = 5800.00.

So instead of speculating, I have a first hand report!

1800.00 down payment on a used bass boat!

2000.00 at BPS with a 20% veteran's discount got me:

6 Various Quantum reels

1 Pair polarized sunglasses with 3 interchangable lenses

2 Pairs shorts

1 Pair shoes

1 Gerber tool

1 Fishing net (I'll rarely use, it's a lazy tool!)

Countless soft plastics

Several Lucky Crafts (d**n those add up the $$ quick)

Tournament Balance Beam

Gortex Rain Gear

Another trip to BPS 1000.00 worth of Electronics

500.00 worth of Airrus rods

500.00 from Tackle Warehouse in plastics and terminal tackle/line

I had seriously bass fished for 11 years (3 years of it tournament fishing) until I enlisted in 2000 when I sold my boat, stored my gear at a buddy's house (about 3000.00 worth) which his dog destroyed.  Incidentally he wouldnt let me anywhere near his dog after that.  I dont understand why.

So I figured the re-investment was money well spent and am back on the road to that American dream of pro tournament angling!

B

fishing user avatarbriansoupy reply :

definitely a used bass boat for around 3,500, a depthfinder, 2 good baitcasting rods and reels, anything i had left would be cranks and spinnerbaits

fishing user avatarWay2slow reply :

Well, for exactly $5000, last year I bought a very nice 99 Javelin Renegade 20 dual console bass boat with a 225 Evinrude Ficht, Twin axle trailer with brakes.  Boat was fully rigged and used on the CITGO BASS trail but only had 125 hours amd just had new carpet installed.  Boat was used by Don McDowell if any of ya'll are from AZ or happen to know him. Would post a picture but only get the box with the little red x when I try.  Guess it's something to do with my IP.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I'd go half with matt about a fishing show. put the rest in the bank and keep it in an emergency or use it for gas.

fishing user avatarTroutfisher reply :

Spend it on a used pickup truck and truck camper to get me around, now that I have my learners permit.  That way also, I can get to the mountains to do some serious trout and bass fishing.

Nothing like a week of fishing and camping in the mountains of West Virginia.  :)
