Whats a better day on the Water???? POLL 2024

fishing user avatarDel from philly reply :

a liked that last poll, here is another

------------------------------------------

WHATS A BETTER DAY ON THE WATER???? AND WHY?

(a) The day where every other cast is a bass, just not very good ones.....dinks and med size bass...but action all day long

(OR)

(B) The day where you dont catch nothing all day, and then BAM.....you get 1 in, a "lunker-sized" bass

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, im with (B) even though i hate those slow days......

the way my flood starts flowing, and my hands start shaking when I might have my best one yet.....nothing compares to that.....that feeling of desperation "I NEED TO GET THIS FISH IN!"

WHATS A BETTER DAY????

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Both.

Why ? because fishing to me is not how many or how big, just being out there is what makes fishing so good.

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

Hard question...I think I would pick the catching frequently, although I have days like only catching one big one in the early spring often. ;)

fishing user avatarMepps reply :

Nothing like catching fish after fish, but as I stated in this thread

http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1192545659

I'm kinda getting tired of the same old dinky fish. I'm torn! :P

fishing user avatarBrian_Reeves reply :

A boat full of medium sized bass will put you in the money more often than one big one.  I like the constant action because I know what I'm doing is working and if it stops working, I get to put the puzzle back together again.  I find fishing enjoyable because it's constanly a puzzle.  that and I get to collect squishy and shiney things with points on them :D

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

What I like are: Good ol' biguns and big ol' gooduns!

Go big or go home.

I would rather catch nothin' than snag little fish.

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

As Raul said, both. Being out there is what counts.

fishing user avatarsurfer reply :

It depends on how my last trip turned out. :)    Since I caught 1 fish on my last trip out and it was a new PB I voted lots of fish.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

I fish for as big a fish as I can catch. I get skunked a lot because I'm not interested in dinks. JMHO

Ronnie

fishing user avatarBass Smacker reply :

One fish rarley wins tournaments.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

If I can catch one big, my day is complete.  I'd rather spend all day in search of a monster than catch a bunch of dinks.  I guess I'm still looking for that trophy bass I have always wanted.

fishing user avatarjeremyt reply :

Since I am gaining confidence in bass fishing now, I feel better if I can catch a few fish versus hawgs at the moment.  My best day so far has been about 8 bass, but the bite seems to be picking up a bit now.

gotta go with r.w. on this one!!! ;D

fishing user avatarBranuss04 reply :

I'm kinda torn on this one.  So here is my opinion:  If i'm fishing a body of water that I fish frequently and have caught many fish there before, I would rather catch one big fish all day.  But if i'm fishing new water or water I have only fished rarely, i would rather catch more fish to build confidence.

fishing user avatarfish-fighting-illini reply :

Honestly a tie for me I love 'em both

All pumped whn landing the big one but bored on the days where I get skunked so I'd say a tie.

I just love catching bass it is a blast and I'm not too proud to catch 10,11 or 12" er's. I have a blast with them all, just something about bass that fascinates me.

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

Tough call, if it's 10lbs+ I'd take that FOR SURE!

fishing user avatarislandbass reply :

I don't wish to straddle the fence but depending on my circumstances, I like both. Sometimes I want to catch numbers to beat my record for a day. Sometimes I target big bass.  Usually it goes like this: I spend the day goin' for big mama.  Then as my fishing liberty approaches expiration, I start praying and hoping I catch anything, even a dink, because I don't like going home skunked. ::)   ;D

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

Agreed but I don't fish tourneys so my answer is..........

The Lunker!!!!   ;D

Catching numbers is fun, but what puts that smile on my face for the rest of the day or weekend is that one monster that I was able to land.  8-)

Not true, you are only looking at stringer tournaments.     We have lots of Big Bass Splashs  where an easy half million in cash and prizes are given away.

Totally for amatuers only, no guides can fish on that lake if they have guided for pay within 90 days, no pros that have fished with and entry over 450.oo in calendar year.

One fish can win you, an amatuer, 120,000.oo in cash and prizes.    2 years ago, remember the 11 year old that was the youngest to win over a 100,000.oo?

2009, on Sam Rayburn in April for 3 days, 25th aniv.   Bob Sealy is uping the payout to a cool 1 million dollars, $250,000.00 going to first place, the Sportsman package has normally been, New Hummer H2, New Triton Bass boat, New travel trailer, and a Bad Boy Buggy.

I'd love to see some of you guys come down for that one with me.

So one fish can win you lots of money.

Matt

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

Commonly heard: "George, I am only interested in catching a big fish!"

Followed up after a relatively short while: "George, where's the fish?"

I agree with Raul and others that fishing is about being out there. However, it's not many that enjoy getting skunked.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Unless you are fishing with George Welcome, Randall, Catt or a few other guys on the Forum, you're going to get skunked targeting "Big Fish Only". It's just part of the program. As Fish Chris might say, "Getting skunked just means you were one cast away from a monster!"

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

I'm with Raul, I enjoy being on the water. Although I would like to break the 7# mark on the smallies, I've been stuck on 6-15 for too long.

I totally agree w/ Raul. I could also say "neither"...haha. I get out 2 or 3 days a week, so I stumble across enough small bass (3 lb or less) to make my answer "lunker".

I set out for quantity over quality, but if I can only catch 1 bass all day, I want a big 'un!

fishing user avatartntitans21399 reply :

I love to go out and get a lunker, but usually get a couple of small ones.  But the main reason I go out their is just to be out their.  So even if I don't catch anything, it is still better then then work or something else.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

My #1 priority is simply to be on the water, I love the smell of smoke from a fireplace, tears streaming down my face from the cool crisp autumn air, listening to the sound of a 2-stroke in the distance.

My #2 priority is to catch  ;)

Laid-back...Okay, I'll buy that...

Maybe that's why Catt has been able to AVERAGE 27 lb tournament sacks for the last THIRTY YEARS!  :o :o

Anyone else on this Forum want to make a similar claim? Me don't think so...

If you aren't catching some of those sacks on T Bend, you aren't cashing a check very often.   It takes some 20+ lbs to make some money most of the time.

I know he probably didn't put me in his best waters in June, but he did put me where I cashed a check for 900.00 during the 3 days.

And to that, I say thanks,   buddy!!!!

Matt

fishing user avatarBass_Akwards reply :

Everytings relative. If you're catching 30-50 fish a day, all one pound or less, for most days of a specific summer, I'd imagine catching one HUGE bass would be the answer. It a tougher question for guys who don't catch much I'm sure.

Take it to the extreme though. I'd be willing to bet that nearly no one catching 50 fish in a day all 1 pound and under, come home and say "That was the best day of fishing of my life!"

Whereas, I'd be willing to bet most guys who were skunked for 7 hours, only to land a 15+ pound LMB on one of their last casts of the day, almost definately came home and rode that buzz for months.

When I caught my world record, I couldn't stop grinning for a year.

Okay fine, I never caught a world record, but I've always wanted to say that, so thanks for the opportunity.

fishing user avatarbass109 reply :

I guess i would have to be the odd ball in this one. I like numbers more then big fish. catching my share of big fish, i would rather like  catching fish throughout the day then just one big fish. 8-)

fishing user avatargranadethrow reply :

both, I know a excellent spot where i can pull in 2-6 lbers all day, i mean like 20-50 on a whole fishing day on suturday, only a few dinks mixed in maybe get 2 of those. Once maybe every 2 days a 7 or 8 lber

Wow! That would be impressive anywhere, but especially in Massachusetts.   ::)

fishing user avatarbassmaster8100 reply :

I gotta go with the lunker, I can catch dinks any day so anytime I can catch a lunker is great. Much greater feeling boating the lunker so I voted for the HAWG MAMA's.  :)

fishing user avatarsurfer reply :

I wen tout yesterday and caught a handfull of dinks.  Can I change my vote to 1 lunker now? :)

fishing user avatarmorieeel reply :

Had that scenario the last two days.  First day, caught one 4-5 pounder, then yesterday caught 7 little ones.  Gotta say I like catching the little ones better, just for the fact that i thought each time the lunker was coming.

fishing user avatardetroit1 reply :

I like them both. Yes, you get tired of catching dinks, but you are catching. But a biggun', ahhh, you remember those. Just be sure to try learn something everytime out. And don't forget, "eliminating unproductive water" is part of the game.

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I'm happy no matter what. :)

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Lets see..... That's a tough one..... Can you give me just a minute to think about this ? :-) LOL

Let me just put it this way, catching a bunch of dinks would leave me feeling as "skunked" as I could have gotten, in the first place.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

One fish "commonly" wins tournies in some Cali lakes. You see, we have some lakes (like my home Lk. Berryessa) where 1 to 2 lb'ers are easy to catxh all day long, but 4 lb'ers seem to be darn near as rare as 10's ! So basically, most guys get a limit for like 10 lbs, no problem. Then, a guy throwing a swimbait gets a 10 plus lb'er, and even if he had scratched out a dinky 10 lb limit to start off with, he wins the tourney without even needing any of them !

Really common at several Nor Cal lakes.

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarVyron reply :

Well , it actually depends on my mood

If I m satisfied with catching enough bass for some time , I ll spend my next outings targeting only big bass.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

A memory of a lunker will stay with you forever, but alot of dinks get mixed all together.

fishing user avatarDean reply :

A lunker is hard to compare to a measely dink. ;D ;D Lunker all the way! 8-)

Yeah but it can get you a big bass pot ;)

fishing user avatarbass109 reply :

without any competition ;)

fishing user avatarmichbass reply :

Better for one Lunker smallmouth

fishing user avatarBig_Bass_Rock reply :

Both are good, but which one's better depends. If the one big one is HUGE, 10+ pounds, and the dinks are really little, like 12 inchers, I'd rather catch the one big one.

But if the fast action is good size bass, 3 to 5 pounders lets say, I'd rather catch a lot of those than one bigger one all day.

fishing user avatarJoel W reply :

I'm not a Tx guy. I fish for the fun of it. So I guess for me I rather have nearly constant action then go hours on end either before or after I catch that Lunker. For me Dinks usually are between 1-2 lbs, so they put up a pretty decent fight on light tackle.

fishing user avatarBucketmouthAngler13 reply :

Fishing isnt about winning tournaments. ;)

Go big or go home. A kid with a worm and bobber can catch a bunch of dinks. Why do you think live bait is ilegal in tourneys?  I get alot more satisfaction when I catch one big one.

fishing user avatarRed reply :

what about fishing all day and getting one dink? cuz thats the rut i am in right now....but i think i would choose A for this one
