Since 2017 is over, does anyone here have any resolutions for 2018 related to bass fishing?
I guess I will start as I have a couple. My first one will certainly happen which is to improve my finesse fishing, focusing largely on the drop shot. The second one is to get a canoe, but seeing as I can't seem to get a trailer hitch on my car I might have to buy a truck.
EDIT: I thought of a couple more. Take my 3 year old nice fishing, that should be fun. And fish a jerkbait more.
i vow to fish 365 days of the year.
My wife vows to not kill me.

This is a vow I wish I could keep. Good luck with the wife
2017 was a extremely good year for me for bass fishing and new species of fish, so it will be hard to beat. My new years bass resolution is to catch more big bass, catch new species of bass, and to catch other new species of fish in 2018.
I have three things on my 2018 list: catch fish in New England in all 12 months, catch more bass than ‘other’ species with jigs, and locate fish better with my Lowrance.
Hmmmmm....the closer I get to 70 I realize I realize I don't really set to many goals anymore. Unless hopes and dreams count. I'm thankful for this day to be sure (I get to go fish). My resolution I guess would be to be a good grandfather to my grandkids and people around me.
Tight Lines
My goals for the winter are to finish reading spoon plugging. my goals for the spring are to get a striker plus and map my lake. Finally my goals for the fishing season is to try and get more comfortable with jerkbaits, drop shots and tubes while still getting out on the water as much as possible
I'll be happy if I can make it through the year without strangling a millennial or yaker.

I'm getting a canoe for sure - my wife says it's my Christmas and birthday present for the next 2 years. Then she says it has to be big enough so she can ride along... not sure how that makes it MY present, but I'm okay with that. What I'm getting is an Old Town Discovery 133 - small enough to solo, but big enough for her to come along.
You can cartop a canoe - I did it for years with my last canoe, even on a Toyota Corolla wagon (I even piled as many as 5 whitewater kayaks on that little car in my risk-taking days in the early 80's). Although I have an F-150 now, I still plan on carrying the canoe on top using a Yakima or Thule rack. I have to keep the hitch clear for my camper.
2018 fishing goals - buy a pelican bass raider 10E, strart night fishing a lot more for more quality bass.
I vow to fish in my boat more . I have such a good time and luck fishing from the conservation dept jon boats on a small lake that I dont get out on the big lake much .
Consider this is gonna be 2nd year on Canyon Lake. I'll try to learn more on main lake (went out only 4-5 times) and fish with other lures like jig, lipless and crank bait.
I already plan to call sick on some Saturday since the tournament here always hold on Saturday (6 times a year).
Mine is to simply go more. I have been fishing more and more salt water the past few years and need to get back on the lake more!
for this year 2 things, 1- just to wake up everyday and two- top my PB. gotta big a big girl......
First and foremost I want to learn a lot more, I bought a few of the classic books like spoonplugging, in pursuit of giant bass, and the infisherman series and I need to dedicate to reading all of them at least once and applying what I can to my fishing. Secondly, and hopefully as a result of what I learn, is to break my PB, and accomplish what was my (failed) goal of this year, which is to catch multiple fish over 6 lbs in MA.
Improve my drop shot and jig skills.
Fish every month. Up my fast fishing game.
I am going big this year. I started using the swaiver at the end of the fall and had two fish over 5 in one outing witch for me is outstanding. I will make this my year of the swimbait. Then after a year next year i will make an attempt to put the big bait and the regular baits together.

I guess one of my goals should be not getting strangled!

Me too .....
I want to do more fishing with my son.
Use a suspending jerkbait more.
Learn my home lake better and start fishing some of the lakes around me. I live within 80 miles of a ton of good lakes. Work on fishing SLOW!!!! Hope all yall have a great new year and may 2018 be the best.
So I’m gonna turn 70 in October. I set the bar about knee high for my resolutions.
1. Stay in good enough shape to get in and out of my kayak without requiring a medical team to be in hot standby.
2. Learn to seriously fish with jigs, not just wash ‘em and put ‘em back in my tackle box while I go back to my old standby worms, creatures, and flukes.
3. Kick the Bait Monkey’s fanny once and for all!
(Shameless plug for @Siebert Outdoors here!) As motivation for resolution #2, I made a small order of half a dozen tungsten Arkie style jigs along with a few tungsten shakey heads. Man, what a difference in quality from the tin clunkers and another brand of tungsten I have tried. My only disappointment was when I cast them and they didn’t skip worth a hoot through the snow, or punch through the several inches of ice covering the local lakes. Anyway, besides the high quality jigs, the service was amazing and my jigs arrived a day earlier than was quoted. Having experienced the product quality and superb service, I am now trying to decide on colors and styles of Fogies along with some more Arkies in swimjig-suitable colors, all of which threaten my chances of sticking to resolution #3.
So for all who are interested, there are my New Year’s resolutions. And for all who are NOT interested, there they are anyway.
May all of you have a safe and happy new year and may all of you catch a new personal best! (That “personal best” thing was gonna be resolution #4 but then I’m pretty sure the local bass have a New Year’s resolution not to be someone’s personal best.)
my bass fishing resolution is pretty simple.
spend more free time on the water and start fishing a few local tournaments.
I retired from tournament fishing 20 years ago, because it consumed all of my free time.
this time around I plan to keep it much more laid back.
To Keep Learning New Big Water.
A-Jay
Win a tournament and have fun doing it!
Stay relaxed more often when I am on the water. Take my dad and mom fishing at least 5 times each this next year.
Catch a limit in a tournament.
I’d love to crack 6+ for a smallie this year, I catch em up to 5+ every year and I’ve hit right on 6 once. This summer I lost two right at the boat that were easily over 6, guess I’ll have to try to find them next year.
Caught a rare species of game fish yesterday so I ended my year with a bang. Looking towards to the fish I will catch in 2018.
You guys all have a ton of worthy goals for this year. I wish you all the best of luck acheiving them.
To improve as a fisherman and break out of my "bank beater" habits. The more I study our quarry, the more I realize what I don't know.
I would like to improve my fishing and catch bigger fish.
Take my son more and have a great time learning and experiencing the great outdoors.
For me it's been the same for the last several years. To get my Dad out fishing. He's 87 now and sadly getting him out is getting tougher every year that passes by. I must admit though, his excuses for not going get better.
Learn how to fish deeper water, learn how to slow down, and learn how to fish the jerkbait. And a 4+ PB smallie would be nice:)
Caught 6 bass in less than 1 hour on January 1st. Plan on going again this weekend for more bass.
Baby due in Late March so that will take up a lot of time for the wife and I. Due to that my resolutions are much more related to education instead of time spent on the water. I want to get better at launching the boat and being able to determine a pattern more quickly so I can make the most of my trips. I can really improve a ton on my ability to “read” the lake to get on fish more quickly. The skill will be more important than ever with a newborn occupying time and will help once he is old enough to fish as well!

Congratulations! I speak from experience -- kids are like fishing buddies when they get older
my goal was to not buy soft plastics until I use up 1/3 of what I have currently (already 3 separate purchases since 01/01... ooops)
so, what I want to do this year fishing:
1) catch one over 5 lbs again (maybe on Lake Anna Easter week!)
2) get my fishing partner out of the house more often (he almost lost his hand in Sept to a nasty infection)
C) stay relaxed on the water, and use what I know to put fish in the livewell
It looks like there's a wedding in the works for me this year. I don't imagine I'll be getting out on the water all that much. To stay somewhat connected to the sport, I really wanna start editing more video and sharing my own content online. Maybe start a blog or website.

Congrats on the wedding!!
1) Get a kayak!! I don't care if it's with tax return $, saving each month, or a crippling impulse buy. I wanna get a kayak!
2) learn, use, succeed and gain confidence in the Ned Rig. There aren't many decent places to fish it from shore on my local river, so #1 and #2 sort of go hand in hand.

We're pretty much in the same boat, but since I fish with my kids I'm looking for a longer canoe and I was going to put more focus on the drop shot but also plan to use the NED rig a bit as well. Of course, this is assuming that I can get a trailer hitch on my car, otherwise I'll be renting canoes and row boats all summer.

Oh right! Dropshot! I have to work on that too haha. But yeah, I know what you mean. I tried the Ned a bit last year but had better success in the current with my go-to tubes. The Ned worked well in eddies, but it's so light I can't reach many from shore.
Go figure, I have a canoe but want a yak. Its too hard fishing alone on the rivers in my canoe. Not as safe.

Yeah I hear you there. I'd also be scared to take a canoe out in most rivers by myself, especially a longer one. Fortunately, I have a few lakes in the area, but likewise without a boat of some kind, it's tough to find a spot where finesse fishing is viable.

Exactly. I too have lakes around, but the fishing in the rivers here is fantastic and diverse. Plus like you said, dinner is hard alone in currents.

My goal is to really learn my lake better and to fish different lures other than the good old Texas rigged worm that catches me a lot of fish. I want to get better at Jig fishing and go for bigger fish this year.
Main goal is cheesy but true: Fish more and enjoy every minute of it.
While I'm at it I may as well:
Become a better dock fisherman. Not a strength of mine and I fish Lake of the Ozarks too much to let that continue.
Learn to use my electronics better. I have cheaper units than a lot of guys, but I could get a lot more out of them than I do.
Catch a limit in every 'Solo Pro Tournament' my schedule and budget allows me to fish this year.
Throw bigger baits, handcraft new lures, and hook up friends & forum members with the lures I make! And most of all, break that PB from last year.
Last year I actually accomplished many of my goals and had a very successful year. I caught my personal best large mouth and small mouth bass last year. I fished in my first online kayak tourney and managed to qualify for the National Championship.
This year I'd like fine tune some techniques. As always I want to get out of the water more and beat my personal best. I want to fish in more tourneys and compete in my first live event instead of just online like last year. I want to qualify for the National Championship again but this time I want to actually plan on fishing in it. I'd like more experience before I fish it so I don't feel so intimidated.
My goal is to boat/bank flip a 6lber and to catch an 8lb largemouth.
I've been wanting to partake in the Wisconsin Master Angler program for the last few years, but never remember during the season. So I'd also like to finally do that for Live Release Smallmouth. No real reason why, but it just seems like It'd be fun and kind of neat to get the DNR certificate and patch. The going size now is 20", so it won't be a shoe-in like when it was "just" a little 18" fish hahaha.
