What are the best youtube channels.... 2024

fishing user avatarbillmac reply :

...for pure fishing instruction?  I'm not talking about just watching people catch fish, but actually getting down to the nitty gritty and teaching.

Here are mine, in no particular order.

Fish the Moment   (best on using maps and electronics that I have found)

Bass Resource  (really breaks down baits and techniques)

Roland Martin  (bass legend, a lot of little tips and tricks you might not think of)

Angling Edge (multi-species)(to be fair, this channel is mostly watching people catch fish, I just really like Al Lindner)

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Tactical Bassin' handles mostly everything for me.  I do like Fish the Moment for the electronic techniques!

Don’t count out the “watching people catch fish” channels. I learn a lot from them watching what they throw, where they throw it and most importantly how they move their baits.

NDYakAngler comes to mind. I like watching what he throws and where he throws it for river Smallmouth.

Agreed.  I watch a lot of them, including the one you mentioned.  Oddly though, in my mind I always read it as:  NYADKangler.  I thought he was fishing in the Adirondacks!  What a let down!

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Gotta give out a shout to Greg Blanchard, as well, he's fun to watch fish and he's a super nice guy.

Today's Angler (Muskie fishing)

Smallmouthcrush

Mad River Outfitters (the BEST fly fishing channel)

Catfish and Carp (great entertainment)

I also enjoy watching AJ Lynn and his no nonsense edit free videos!

These channels all help fuel my bait monkey.

fishing user avatarDSTN reply :

I watch bits of most of the channels listed above. Really like BassResource and YourLakeForkGuide for their detail about lures and presentations. Fishthemoment is very good too. I know his squad isn't too popular around here but not gonna act like I don't still watch Lake Fork Guy too.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

I subscribed quite a few of channels mentioned in this thread so I’m not gonna go into detail one thing though, who is bassresource channel? Lol

i wanna add

618 fishing, this channel, I have followed for a long time. He is not gonna teach you anything much but he will definitely make you have more fun catching any size and species of fish. Ooh donkey.

Fish code studios, this is plain educational channel to show different lures, action under water and reaction of bass (kind of).

And don’t forget our own discovery channel from @Paul Roberts “The Nature of Fishing”

Yes, and yes!

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

I'm probably a little biased since they're fellow NorCal'ers, but Tactical Bassin is pretty incredible with the amount of quality education they put out there so consistently (3x/wk). I start just about every M/W/F morning off watching their new video with a cup of coffee, and I'm pretty sure I've seen every video they've put out by now.

I've also enjoyed watching Glenn's videos and quite a few others that have already been mentioned.

fishing user avatarTriStateBassin106 reply :

For starters Bassresource has a great YouTube channel that I have learned a lot from this year.

My personal channels are Realistic Fishing, Debo's Fishing, Tacklejunky81, flukemaster, Alex Rudd fishing, NDyakangler.

If you're a beginner please stay away from those Googan squad guys.

They don't provide any knowledge, only entertainment and overpriced baits.

fishing user avatarCrankin4Bass reply :

Fish Code Studios is interesting and he has a video featuring Rick Clunn. The guy has a PhD from Harvard! Thanks for sharing that one.

fishing user avatarWes LaPoint reply :

Tactical Bassin, BassResource, InformativeFisherman when I want to learn about something specific.

You can learn a lot from other channels that aren't necessarily trying to "teach"...Smallmouth Crush, Bassinbill96, all Googan Squad members, Milliken Fishing, Scott Martin, etc

fishing user avatarAstroFishingTV reply :

Going from the most helpful (IMO) to the more laid back channels in the informatory side of fishing: Fish the moment, Scott Martin, Bama Bass, Lake Fork Guy, and Lunkerstv. The last two have helped me as well just more of an entertainment channel. They seemed to be more informative in the past. Hope this helps! I used to live on youtube lol.

The Googan squad is a good group for the most part, they do have expensive baits but they are fairly close to something like that of Yamamoto. Quality/catch rate is close as well.

fishing user avatarNYWayfarer reply :

Add Tylers Reel Fishing to the list. Lots of good information.

fishing user avatarLuke Barnes reply :

A big one for me has been Debos Fishing. He explains what he is using, why he is using it, and how to use it. He replies to questions I ask as well. He breaks it down and isnt a hype man. Genuine love of fishing.

Realistic fishing is cool. I've learned some little tips here and there.

Tactical Bassin and bassresource really break down individual baits and techniques and I've learned from them.

fishing user avatarBassinCNY reply :

I think the first bass fishing video I watched was Greg Blanchard. I still enjoy his videos. Of course Bass Resource. I recently found YourLakeForkGuide and have been enjoying those videos. Also The Nature of Fishing, NDYakAngler, TacticalBassin, Roland Martin Outdoors and Aj Lynn. I obviously have a preference for the more low key guys.

Sorry but I totally disagree. Most of the Googan's audience are anglers under 18, they are the PERFECT channel to watch for people who want to get excited about the hobby. A couple of them are very good anglers as well (LFG, John B, Lukers).

Like it or not the Googans are firing up the next generation of fishermen by a huge factor. If my kids were getting into fishing i'd be perfectly fine with them watching them.

They are the reason I started fishing tournaments and getting really serious into. I'm a Junior in high school and am hoping to fish all the way through college as well. Their are a couple of them that could have went pro with bass fishing, I know LFG decided that he didn't want to do it anymore after he got married. They are good guys, fun to watch, and entertaining.

fishing user avatarFryDog62 reply :

I like watching the Angling Edge, Lake Commandos and Weirdtoofish videos because they fish where I fish.  How they approach a body of water is what's most helpful.  Weirdtoofish just did a clip comparing various crayfish imitators that I though was really good, and they aren't tied to one bait manufacturer.

Glenn/BR is always good and I watch a little Tactical Bassin.

Anything with Swindle is more entertaining than instructional, but I really enjoy playing some of his stuff for my wife.  She has a hard time deciphering some of his redneck slang but gets quite a kick out of him.  And her eyes get as big as saucers when I play his Dude Wipes promotions.

You're wrong and here's why.

The googan squad give a very unrealistic view of fishing towards the young bucks (beginners) out there.

Realistic Fishing did a video about this topic, if you're a beginner and watch the googan squad or other "hype bro fishing channels" (You know the one's I'm talking about, hip hop beats and cinematic editing) you're going to be a bit confused and annoyed that you went fishing at your local pond and weren't catching fish on every cast like the googans did on private farm ponds and lakes on 90,000$ boats.

Those channels are great for people like us who know what we're doing and they provide entertainment, but they do not provide knowledge. (Something beginners need).

Please watch educational videos if you're a beginner. You're gonna need to know how to tie a texas rig or cast a baitcaster if you want to have a chance at catching any bass like these guys on the googan channels do.

You have your opinion on it and I have mine, but if I'm getting someone into our wonderful sport I want them to learn how to chase bass like the googans do. Not just watch people catch them and not know how too.

I don't really watch any of the other Googans but LFG I have been subscribed to for years wish he did more educational videos nowadays glad he was able to win his battle with that brain tumor a year or two ago, he's a really great guy!

fishing user avatarplawren53202 reply :

I'm somewhat in the middle on this one.  I do watch regularly, and greatly appreciate, the more "educational" YouTubers...names like Tactical Bassin, Bass Resource, Flukeman, Iaconelli, Brian Latimer.  I really enjoy and appreciate the way they typically take one topic or technique and systematically break it down.  As a (relatively) experienced fisherman, this is very helpful to me.  Even as a kid watching Bill Dance, Roland Martin etc. on TV, I remember liking in particular the shows that took a more instructional approach rather than just showing them hauling in fish after fish in some place that was probably private and stocked to the gills (pun intended).

I also like a couple of more "average joe" YouTubers, Realistic Fishing and Debo.  I appreciate their perspectives as people who aren't tournament pros, aren't the beneficiaries of major sponsorships, and don't seem to try to oversensationalize or "whoa dude" every little thing.  If I were not a fisherman at all I don't know that I'd get into fishing just from watching their videos.  But as someone who has fished for 40+ years and can still go out and get skunked, I really enjoy their viewpoints.

However, I have also subscribed to a fair share of the Googan squad or Googan-type YouTubers--Kickin their Bass TV, Fishing with Norm, John B., LoJo, etc.--and I enjoy those as well.  I recognize them for what they are, and also recognize where some sponsorship-type arrangements also influence content.  But I enjoy the entertainment factor.  I am also surprised (as someone else said in this thread) that I do pick up a fair amount of tips from them, many times not necessarily things they are expressly explaining, but just things in passing or things I see.

Now, which is better for a newbie or someone not yet in the sport?  That's a hard question.  I look at my 16-year old son as an example.  He has done a little fishing here and there but is not yet a diehard like me.  I think he would find Tactical Bassin or Flukeman to be pretty boring and would zone out quickly.  However, he has watched some of the Kickin their Bass, Fishin with Norm and Jon B. videos and found them entertaining.  I think these YouTubers are more likely to generate interest in fishing, which then hopefully translates to someone digging in deeper and transitioning to the more instructional folks.  I also understand that generational differences, etc., the Googan squad-type fishing bros just aren't everyone's cup of tea.  Totally understandable.  I think the number of subscribers for all of these folks, in each category, proves that each found a role to fill and are doing it well.

fishing user avatarSTBen1215 reply :

Fluke Master, Bama Bass, and even Tacticalbassin got old and boring to me. Tacticalbassin just seems to want to push product now. Tacticalbassin has wonderful insight but most of his videos are so repetitive now. However, Fish the Moments videos are extremely insightful and he does a great job. There are a lot of great videos just depends on the topic.

I couldn't agree more. This young guy puts out good stuff. I watch all of them.

fishing user avatargalyonj reply :

It's hard for me to separate fishing-focused channels that are purely instructional from those that are purely entertainment when I scroll through my subscriptions list, because I find so many of them to be as entertaining as they are educational.

So I guess I'm just gonna go through my list:

  • Alex Rudd Fishing (Who's local to me. I keep hoping I'll see him around so I can talk my way onto the boat with him.)
  • Bamabass
  • BassGeek
  • Brain Latimer
  • Debo
  • Fish the Moment
  • Flukemaster
  • Mikeybalzz has some good stuff, but I end up skipping him in the recommendations as often as not
  • Realistic Fishing
  • Saw Grass Bassin'

When I first got back into fishing after going 20-ish years without it, I watched a few videos from dudes that I now recognize to be on the Googan Squad. They're pretty entertaining, but that's about as far as I go. I haven't learned anything from them, and I don't follow them. Honestly, good for them getting to turn something they love into a career. We should all be so lucky.

fishing user avatarBoomstick reply :

+1 for Tactical Bassin'. I've picked up a lot of tips from them and there are many more. They cover just about everything. Flukemaster and Bassresource also have helpful videos as well, and I also follow CatfishAndCarp for catfishing tips and entertainment. Every now and then I'll find some useful stuff on other channels too like Brian Latimer's and MilikenFishing among others.

2. Catfish & Carp: incredibly informational but with catfish and carp focus

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

Alex Rudd, NDYakAngler, and Tactical Bassin' are the best.

Alex is like any one of us. He loves the sport, is a good man, and gets down to business.

NDYakAngler is a great guy who catches the prettiest River Smallies in the country I do believe.

Tactical are true pros and amazing guys who are exceptionally educational.

I cut out the entire Googan Squad long ago. They hardly fish anymore. These days it's shenanigans and product pushing.

I stopped following guys like Kickin' Their Bass TV and LoJo because they're annoying; the dude bro style is insufferable. They fish, but they teach nothing. They behave like clowns.

DEBO is a good channel too. He's just an ordinary guy.
