I was curious as to see who here will spend a day on the water fishing for something other than bass.
I love fishing for Northern Pike.
Also, I like catching crappies when I can find them and catch some slabs in the 11-12 inch range
QuoteI love fishing for Northern Pike. Also, I like catching crappies when I can find them and catch some slabs in the 11-12 inch range
Yeah crappie are good. Instead of pike for me its the musky. Do pike smell as bad as musky do?
Probably (all fish stink). I've never been musky fishing though, so I wouldn't know for sure
We fish regularly for bass, but we also like to go catfishing as well.
QuoteProbably (all fish stink). I've never been musky fishing though, so I wouldn't know for sure
Haha, you think all fish smell until you've smelt a musky. Any other fish smells beautiful after you've smelt a musky lol. Its like a mixture of blood and steel its wierd...
Bass, Crappie (Sac a lait), Catfish, & a variety of salt water species
Living in Northern Michigan presents an interesting selection / collection of species options. Even though the open water fishing season is fairly brief as compared to most of our more southerly located fishing brother and sisters, so many of my local lakes include a very nice list of assorted game fish to chose from.
The regular panfish choices including white and black crappie, assorted sunfishes and some very decent yellow perch are almost always available. But often times I am fishing in water that produces both Large and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike as well as Muskie and Tiger Muskie.
It is very cool when one of these "non-target" species ends up in the net. It it also a bummer to get bit-off - especially when you're throwing a bait you're not particularly fond of losing :'(
So Yes, I am definitely a mutli-species angler - although most of the time the fish make that choice for me........ 8-)

Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black bass, spotted bass...
Besides bass i enjoy crappie and flyrodding for stream/river trout..
I'm primarily an offshore angler. Bass fishing is so darned different that it's drives me absolutely crazy at times. It's just a different method of locating fish for me. Takes much more patience/practice.
My next big hurdle is offshore flyfishing for sailfish ;D
Smallmouth #1 for me with Crappies a close second. Usually pound the crappies until May then hit Erie hard for smallies.
If it can get a weight over 1lb and it will bite a line ill fish for it. List to date of species caught or that ive tried to catch.

I love fishing for saltwater fish, especially Flounder (nothing compares to the way they taste)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I have not had a chance to do it yet I wouldn't mind going after some Crappie.
Bass, Crappie, Rainbows, Mackinaw, Pike, Steelhead, Brook & Cuttthroat
I love bass fishing and catching both largemouths and smallies, but pike are my very favorite fish to catch. They get huge, hit like freight trains, and fight like mad. I also love catching real trout (not stocked catchables), especially in a river. I love walleyes, catfish, anything pretty much.
My real best love is ice fishing, especially for pike and lake trout, both of which I fanatically pursue in the winter. Perch, crappie, and bluegill round out my list, I flat out love them all. My favorites in order would be.
1. Pike
2. Real Trout (including lake trout)
3. Bass
4. Walleye
5. Catfish
6. Crappie
7. Perch
8. Bluegill
Anything that will give me a good fight. Around here. mainly Large Mouth Bass, Catfish (these are real fun sometimes), Trout (in the mountains), Gar (got to get into these more this year).
Sometimes I will hit up Crappie and Bream as well. Though the bream are mainly when I got my girls with me.

Strictly largemouth, and the occasional mud fish that stops by!!!
I love bass fishing, but catfishing is my mistress. I also enjoy fishing for any kind of panfish and saltwater fishing, especially king fishing.
QuoteLargemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black bass, spotted bass...

Bass(smallmouth and largemouth since thats all ive caught)
salmon (king salmon to be exact)
catfish
bluegill
crappie
perch
whitebass
pike
Living in a coastal state, I have the best of both worlds. Many different species of freshwater fish, the shore 1.5 hours away for fishing and crabbing.
Occasionally, I like to bring back my inner child and fish for panfish like blue gill, perch, bull head etc..
For a week or 2 in the Spring and then again in the fall I hit the crappie for the skillet and maybe a trip or two for catfish but mainly Bass. I'll try for some walleye every once in a while but I haven't got them figured out quite yet. If the Bass bite is not dead I'm chasing them normally...

Are you a U-PER?
My fishing trips are usually 24 hours in the boat on the lake. I fish for largemouth, smallmouth, striped, and white bass, channel and flathead catfish, crappie, and sunfish (for bait for flathead cats). Happy fishing.

I am normally a bass angler. but my parents and i go on vacation every summer. Dad and i will go after bluegill for a few hours to get a meal. and i catfish at night
1. Bass
2. Catfish
3. Pike
4. Salmon
5. Anything else that swims. ;D
Largemouths take the majority of my attention but I do enjoy going out a few times a year targetting musky on the Potomac. Sometimes when I'm smallie fishing, I'll stumble across some walleyes that are on a jerkbait or crankbait bite. If I find some, I'll stop and fish for them. Can hardly beat a couple small keepers on the grill!
Any and all species of the Florida coast and inland.
Bluegills
largemouth bass
smallmouth bass
white bass
walleye
yellow perch
northern pike
Carp
for sure yes.......
bass mainly in the fresh, with the love of cats as well...
and anything in the salt....
if it fights, i love to catch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
whatever is bitting is fun to catch, i especially like bowfishing too, so i can even get the nasty gar and bowfin outta my way! ;D
Bass would be my first choice.
Crappie second
Blue gill third..
I have caught rainbow trout, but would prefer not to..
Inshore : Jacks, Tarpon
Offshore : Sailfish, Dolphin
everthing else is pale in comparison.
I love to fish for big bluegill and crappie, and for a good fight there is nothing like a 5+ pound cat on the end of your line.
Catfishin', Bream fishin', and Suckerfishin' are all awesome. Most of the time when I'm not just bassin', I'll fish for all things at once with a nightcrawler carolina rigged. ;D
I am a huge fan of fishing for panfish, I like to concentrate on bluegill, redears, crappie and white bass.
I like fishing for catfish and if I can get the funds, I would like to get a boat set up for fishing large cats on the river systems here in KY, specifically below the dams.
I am just starting with largemouth fishing, but up north where I am originally from I loved fishing for northern pike, walleye, perch and smallmouth.
I have been known to take trips to fish for saltwater stuff: marlin, flounder, blacktip shark (My father and I hired a guide for two days and just had the best time targeting sharks of South Carolina), tuna ect.
Am I a multi-species guy ???
X's 10 ! :-)
If it will bite my hook, and pull on my line, I'm always down with it ! :-)
From Bluegill, to Sturgeon, to Bat Rays, etc, etc....
Fear no fish ;-)
Peace,
Fish
About 70% of the time I'm fishing, I'm fishing for bass. The rest of the time is split between muskie, and walleye.
Falcon
I fish for mostly largmouth but at certain times of the year when the White Bass are really running we will have a blast catching them in light tackle. I also enjoy the saltwater! Catfish occasionally as well.
i live on the south east texas coast.I preffer sow belly bass, but when i cant make it to sam rayburn or toledo bend, i can drive 15 mins to sabine lake and catch specks, redfish and flounder all day.
Yup, brown fish and green fish....
I try for Crappie, Walleye, Bass, Jumbo Perch and Bluegill. I catch whatever else will bite the hook.
Bass are my first choice, but I'll fish for just about anything.
As I've said, I'll throw a hook in a mud puddle if there is a chance of getting a bite. Love to fish for it all - bass, bluegill, trout, crappie, mullet, reds, flounder, mackerel, blues, cats, carp - whatever I can find in the rivers, lakes, ponds, streams and coast here in NC.
Saltwater:
Redfish
Flounder
Speckled Trout
Spanish Mackerel
Freshwater:
Bass
Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout
Catfish
I consider myself a multi species angler for sure. Idefinetly spend the most time on bass but make a trip to Canada every year for walleye/pike. Also, i spend a lot of time catching eaters such as: perch, crappie, blue gill, trout, and salmon.
Bass fishermen are almost a minority up here in Wisconsin. The big shiny Rangers and ProCrafts tend to stay out of the Lunds' way . We're lucky to have excellent walleye, musky, pike, panfish, and trout fisheries up here along with the bass.
I fish all of them pretty equally, it keeps me busy.
i always target bass but it's ok if i catch other species.
Aside from bassin' I will do some panfishing, but up until 3-4 years ago it was all about MUSKY fishing! 8-)
I take my 4yr old twins with me so its whatever will bite. Hoping this year will be better, Caught nothing last year.
I myself usually largemouth fish but taking the wife out to catch some bluegill or crapie i also do al the time.
