Face it, many, if not all of us, would like to become pro fisherman and take home the classic trophy and 1.2mil. But to do that, we gotta work hard to win consistantly enough to where someone wants to turn you into their bilboard. If you could choose your sponsors, who would they be. After you decide that, who would you turn away from and run if they asked you to wear their T-Shirt?
Dream Sponsors
Xpress Boats- I wanna be the only pro on the tour fishing an aluminum boat
Yamaha- Gotta love that VMax
Owner- No hook compares
Silver Thread- I'm sick of buying line. Handouts please???
Bass Pro Shops- They make every kind of bait you need
Mountain Dew- I need my cold, carbonated caffine plus the boat wrap would be nice
Sponsors I'd never dream of-
Tampax/Maxi- Yeah...need I say more
Depends (adult diapers) Something just wouldn't feel right
Pampers- Same as above
Skittles or Lucky Charms- I don't want a rainbow as a boat wrap
lol
I would die if team diawa sponsored me. I would have to say that is my dream sponsor.
I would run away from Vagisil and Preperation H
Dream Sponsors:
Ranger Boats
Team Daiwa
Berkely
Abu Garcia
Jack Daniels
Miller Beer
Sponsor I would want to stay away from?

Any women's products
Ronco?
Zebco
It's not just the name brand, it's the whole package they are offering.
I've been fortunate enough to be sponsored by the ultimate sponsor. YOU. Skiing for the U.S. had us working for many companies that contributed to the program but when it's all said and done, the only name I ever wore that meant anything was the one on the back that said U.S.A.
(no offense intended to Kodak, Visa, UPS, powerbar, snapple,North Face,Subura,etc.,etc,etc.)
Remember, sponsorship is a WAY to your dream. If it is the actual dream, you're looking down the wrong path.
Yeah, but no one wants to be sponsored by Tampax ;D
LBH, were you Olympic or World Championship or what what? This is something I've never heard about you so now I am interested. Either way, that's cool that you represented our country in competition.
I've only had 2 sponsors. I was sponsored by Widowmaker lures, but that dude never sent me any samples or never got back in touch with me, so I guess that one doesn't count and I was sponsored by the US Army when they bought me a plane ticket to Iraq for a year of open season hunting.
If tampax gave me financial support to fish the big tournies and got me a nice bass boat i would wear there name.
LMAO!!
I skied Moguls "A" in the late 80's and early 90's. Was an alternate for the '92 games in Tignes, Fra. Broke shoulder 23 days before we were leaving. Long story. Heartbreaker.
lol
Hey, even so you made it further than most people would ever dream of. Still an accomplishment. I was an alternate on my high school basketball team. 2nd string...WOOOOO
Football...now that's a different story 1st String Defense for 4 years woot!
QuoteIf tampax gave me financial support to fish the big tournies and got me a nice bass boat i would wear there name.
I bet your boat wouldn't be red
I've been a wise guy,...a mouth of sorts, quick witted but respectful. I would love to have them as a sponsor.
Think of all the prepared come backs you would have after a couple weeks on the trail. You would have gotten every comment on earth by then and will have come up with all the possible come backs and narrowed it down to the most poignant ones.lol.
"I brought extras in case you get a little teary eyed at the scales"
To the guy who is the cooler boat owner "We had to use 6 of the super absorbant to help save one of them last week at Fork"! (pointing at his boat)
Oh,...don't get me going.
Yeah, I lost the plug going down the highway so I used the jumbos. Believe it or not, they really do stop leaks. ROFL
Brian, great comment on the one year hunting pass!! ;D
As far as sponsors go, nitro/tracker marine would be a great one to have...best packages out there for the money. Any bait manufacturer that would be willing to step up and give me product to use would get my approval.
I'm with senko, if the money is right and they pitch it the right way...yeah, I would rep just about anything out there.
QuoteI'm with senko, if the money is right and they pitch it the right way...yeah, I would rep just about anything out there.
There's a term for that. the site filters won't allow it but it exists.
remember, you are talking about individual competition. It's YOUR name out there, this isn't a team sport.
I would only rep products I used and believed in. If you are at the level where you are attracting international or national sponsors like Skoal or Tyson,...don't be a Redman user. Instead, you approach Redman and explain that you have been approached by skoal but have always ben a redman user, allow them to make a counter offer.
You are not only marketing your skills, you are marketing your integrity and charachter.
This is a good read for all who are interested.
Sponsorship : Marcia Ruben (reelady)
LBh needs to pick up Sony, Panasonic, Cannon as a sponsor!
Talk about flooding the site with vids
I really need to be comfortable with a product before I would rep it for anyone.
Just because someone throws product at you...it's not enough.
If they have cruddy products....I'm not going to say I like em.
Now if they want to throw products at me to make sure I like them first...then we can talk.
On that note...I'd like to test products from;
Ford Trucks
Tracker bass boats
MinnKota
I need to find a fav rod builder
I need to find a fav reel builder (although I'm liking my Shimano)
Reed's Bloody Mary mix (So Tampax will leave me alone)
Trojan Condoms (the anti Tampax)
How funny would it be to have trojan as your primary sponsor and show up at the scales with a win using a roboworm. "Spawning bass want ribbed roboworms,....for her pleasure."
Being a primarily male based business, I'm surprised we don't see more Male aimed products than we do. Would only make sense. * is already on board I believe, right? Do I remember seeing a * boat this year?
So, what you are saying is that because I dont use Tampax, that I shouldnt accept a sponsorship from them? I think the WBT might have something to say about that.
Look, I am comfortable with the fact that I wont likely get sponsored by anyone except my own hard work at my day job. All I am really saying is that, given the opportunity to advertise someone's product for them and get their name out in an arena where it typically wouldnt be, I would do it for them. If in the process the financial support they give me allows me to showcase my talents, so be it.
It sounds like a win-win situation.
LBH, I would love to know what term you may be referring to. PM me with the info if you can.
No, But if someone in your family has a lawsuit against them for toxic shock syndrome, I wouldn't expect you to hop on board just cause they offered you money and a free ride. Good luck keeping the rest of your sponsors if it gets out.
My point is that if a company that big is offering, surely there are other options also. All I'm saying is represent wisely. You are choosing your sponsors as opposed to a team like The Patriots. If the coorporate entity chooses the teams sponsors, it doesn't directly relfect on the individual player persay. However, when Joe quaterback does a Burger King commercial on his own in the off season, that does directly represent upon him.
Certainly not an attack, just pointing out that fishing is like the BK commercials. The products you endorse as much as the reason why, CAN directly reflect upon your charachter, which CAN directly reflect upon the success or demise of your career.
Again. No defensiveness needed, no offense intended. Just sharing what I know from experience.
PM sent.
I think it may have something to do with a not so picky woman/man with whom it may or may not be easier to have carnal relations. or promiscuous.
Just a thought.
Vince
ok, ok....I appreciate the opinions of those who know more than me (LBH).
No, Vince, I thought that is what the insinuation was as well. Thankfully, it was not.
No ruffled feathers. No blood, no foul....
Although, in my initial posting, I did say ALMOST anything. In my personal experience, you ALWAYS leave yourself some window of escape.
QuoteI skied Moguls "A" in the late 80's and early 90's. Was an alternate for the '92 games in Tignes, Fra. Broke shoulder 23 days before we were leaving. Long story. Heartbreaker.
I know a little about skiing and heartbreaks. I really loved to ski and was a ski instructor for beginners at a resort. Three years ago I bought a house at the base of the Blue Mountain Ski Resort. Two months after I moved into my new home I was rear-ended by a truck. The doctors discovered the collision activated problems stemming from a bad accident I had as a child (you may not believe it but I was charged by a buffalo). The MRI results indicated I now need to live a sedentary lifestyle or risk paralysis. I am not allowed to ever ski again, or go on those fun 60 mile-an-hour bone-crushing bass tournament boat rides. I still fish for bass, but now it's out of a 13ft aluminum with an electric trolling motor which I leave at the local lake, and only fish tourneys on the electric-only lakes as a rider. Life is filled with heartbreaks we've just got to make the best with what we've got.

Dream sponser? Allready have it. 8-)
As other sponsers I would like, I would say ranger, st. croix, shimano, or quantum....
As for sponsers I would not want, I would take what I could get. If Vi agra (why didnt that come out with out the space I dont know) or any other company like that told me they would pay for my tournaments but I have to have Vi agra on the side of my boat in big bold letters I would be all for it...
The worst is already here, cialis. Nothing like standing on the front deck at the weigh-in waving at the misses from the boat advertising "richard" medicine. Oh, well, just grin like smilin' Bob.......
Seriously, dream sponsor, my wealthy brother-in-law. He's a doctor, his wife is too. The silent sponsor w/the big bankroll.... sounds like a cheap T.V series, " The Travelin' Bassman" like Magnum P.I. where his rich friend let's him drive the Ferrari and stay in the guest house! ;D
Um, the correct answer is anyone who wants to pay my way.
If tampax gave me financial support to fish the big tournies and got me a nice bass boat i would wear there name.
Exactly!
QuoteQuoteIf tampax gave me financial support to fish the big tournies and got me a nice bass boat i would wear there name.I bet your boat wouldn't be red
HAHA. funny yet gross
So for all the folks who would let anyone sponsor them,....does Marlboro count?
How about the KKK?
Reverend Phelps church?
Planned parenthood? (will conflict with the religion of many fans)
No offense intended , I just personally wouldn't play the game if the only way I could do it was with these people's money. I'm not talking about sponsors that may be embarressing..i.e. ...I'm talking about choosing sponsors that will probably cost you other sponsors and certainly some fans.
When you say you would wear ANYONE's name for $,..you leave yourself wide open. If you would, that's your choice, I'm just saying that I personally wouldn't. I'm not attacking anyone. I'm just trying to express my opinion.
I mean, I don't even accept free stuff from *** just so my yamamoto vs knock off opinion retains it's integrity. It's not all about the money for me. That's just somthing my parents instilled in me.
QuoteI mean, I don't even accept free stuff from *** just so my yamamoto vs knock off opinion retains it's integrity. It's not all about the money for me. That's just somthing my parents instilled in me.
My father taught me from an early age- without your integrity, you have nothing.
I am officially out of this discussion. I learned that lesson yesterday. LBH is right, there are certain sponsors that will ultimately shorten your career.
Choose wisely, grasshopper....
Maybe I am just weird, but I don't think I would want want a sponsor...but then again I have NO professional angling aspirations. To me once you've crossed that line, it's a job...it's a job with a TON of pressure to perform day in day out. I fish to get away from life's daily stresses...i don't need some sponsor breathing down my neck cuz I am not performing up to their standards. To me, when fishing becomes work...it just ain't no fun no more.
But just to entertain the though briefly...lets see...keep in mind don't have a very firm grasp of normal fishing sponsors and how this whole dealy works.
Dream Sponsors:
McDonalds...they are huge...tons of exposure if you played your cards right with 'em.
WalMart, same as above.
Lucky Craft...need I say more on that one.
And just because there would be too many to list, any major bait manufacturers, major outfitting stores, major bass boat line, major trolling or outboard companies. Anybody would any of any of those things i just listed more than likely.
Not so dream sponsors:
I think LBH has nailed this one. Any group that has an "abrasiveness" with any group of peeps. Gotta be as PC (as much as I hate that) as possible. I don't think I would want any sponsors dealing with alcohol or smoking...just a personal preference to me. I hate smoking, but don't have anything against the ocassional drink. I would just feel like I am hawking products that young fisherman just don't need any part of and are detrimental to people general health.
Speed- I think I yanked you out of context. I'm sure you weren't implying that if the KKK were rounding up anglers, you would hop on board just because they had a check. That wasn't how deep you meant your comment to go, I'm pretty sure.
That IS the point I was trying to make though but I'm afraid it may seem like it got directed towards you as it was your reply that got me thinking along that line. To clarify, it wasn't.
Confusion from text discussion once again.
I see your point. I think what you mean is any
"Industry related" sponsor, i.e "Yum, ranger, hummingbird, etc" would make a great sponsor and you would accept any one of them that offered. In other words, whether it's Triton or Ranger,...you don't care, you're in.
I apologize if I'm correct. I could have been clearer.
Man, you guys are killing me with some of these sponsors
Orange County Choppers.....lol....Someone's REALLY dream'n
I'll chime in with anyone who sells wild shiners.
I already "sponsor" the products that work for me!
If any of those companies paid me or gave me stuff for free, that would be great. So far I've only been able to get myself a free hat and KU_Bassmaster clued me into that! Nothing's "free" and I'm not at all interested in making any effort to actually work when I'm not "at work". If fishing were my job, that would be a whole different story.
Word! Ain't nothing free about sponsorship.
well, guys,
here's how to get some "sponsorship" without harming your integrity.
i like/love shimano reels. sooo, when i went to buy an extra set of pliers, i bought a set of shimano's best. trouble was,.,,, they were No Good! ...the needle nose ones were fine, but the cutters blades didn't touch, therefore, you couldn't cut any small diameter line with them.
called shimano, explained what happened. they told me to send them in. i did. got new pliers, PLUS, very nice blue shimano hat & very nice black shimano polo shirt.
so, now, i can not only fish shimano, but, also, REP RE SENT! ...cool, huh?
haha, awesome. I do like companies that stand behind their product and are willing to keep the customer happy.
Shimano and their hats. That customer service dept gets more bang for their buck out of a $5 hat than anything they sell. That's just plain good business. And they are consistent in their mission. I don't currently use them but sure do respect them.
LBH you are too funny! You said "Word". That is so fresh!
Well, if they gave me enough money, I might wear "there name" but I would have a hard time wearing there product :-) LOL
Seriously though, I LOVE all of my current sponsors. They all take great care of me, and provide (IMPO of course) the best products available.
The only other dream sponsors I can think of would be like BP or Chevron !!! Oh, what the heck... how about Dodge. I'd gladly accept a full size Dodge RT10 about now :-)
Peace,
Fish
Just Keeping it real. don't wanna see it get off the hizzle. 8-)
lmao
Oil company? As far as money goes they have plenty to throw around.
Now there is a sight I would like to see....
You quietly come upon this little cove and as you round the bend, there, in the middle of the lake pulling out LMB is none other than Snoop Dogg. Fizzle snizzle pizzling all over the place.
Ya dig?
I would think that Playboy would be a dream sponsor for the men. I have yet to see a pro
angler with a boat wrapped with the bunny, or photo ops with the playmates.
For us women, maybe make-up companies like MAC. Free make-up sounds good to me!
I also like my handguns, so Glock and S&W would be good. In fact, it would be a slick marketing
move if gun companies did sponsor anglers.
hmm what do i need...?
i need an ipod. so apple computers
a boat, so stratos
i really like that new volvo hardtop so, volvo
and i think bass pro kinda covers everything you need.
and my nightmare sponsor would be......
PeTA AHHHHH!
Lane, with your mention of handgun sponsorship, you have made my list for ladies that kick a$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
guess i cant say that, sorry.
kick butt then.
My favorite sport is Alligator hunting, that is where my 357 S&W gets most action. It
is the best of both worlds, and boy do they put up a FIGHT! My 9mm Glock is my personal
bodyguard! But my favorite handgun by far is my Colt 45 Texas Ranger/US Customs
pistol which belonged to my great uncle. It was issued to him in 1909 when he became
a Texas Ranger. More and more women are buying and learning to use guns for both
personal protection and hunting. Heck, the president of the NRA is a woman. There is industry
crossover with hunting and fishing, so I think that gun and ballistic companies would
consider sponsorship of both sexes. Just my 02 cents.
Back to the topic folks.
Sorry, I did not mean to go off topic! What about Recreational Vehicle sponsorship?
Just think of all of the logo space you could fit on an RV ( for a fee). The added benefit is saving
on motels.etc. I have talked to alot of people that travel in RVs to attend various shows,
and even with gas prices they save money. That industry needs another marketing
avenue! I just hope I NEVER see Tampax on tourney shirts or boat wraps!
Tampax,.,etc,...I'm talking about choosing sponsors that will probably cost you other sponsors and certainly some fans.
I'm thinking that what you are thinking is right and I'm confident that anyone who is seeking a sponsorship wouldn't jump on the offensive bandwagon. Tampax isn't a big deal.
Along the lines where you were going with this...I do not believe that many of the paid anglers who accept sponsorships do it for anything but the money. I know and speak to many of those guys and generally, it seems that money talks. For lower level guys its all about free product so it is easier to justify the use of those baits but I know for a fact that there are guys who don't use their sponsors products yet claim to.
I think Lane has a point that could be used to advantage. After all, isn't one of the greatest concerns a lady has with her makeup is that it can't smudge, smear or run?
What more harsh conditions could there be for makeup than fishing with a 70mph boat in the rain? If she looks good doing it, she must have the most dependable makeup! Could be an angle that the Lady Bassmaster series could use...
For myself this is a pretty easy list:
Dream:
Kens Tackle - a local shop that takes care of everyone as if they were family
Lucky Craft
Gamagatsu
Strike King, one of the few for profit companies that have a website giving great info away for free...
Arkie Jigs
Dodge or Ford
Mt. Dew
Foxwoods Casino
World Poker Tour
Never:
Depends adult diapers
Amway
Any crotch related anti-fungal medicine... the world needs them but not with my name attached!!!!!
Vorlin
