I really loathe Bad Anglers 2024

fishing user avatarGillroid 9000 reply :

It was about a year ago when i joined a small Bass club. I met a guy named ##### which he acted as my guide during my beginner times. He was one good fishing buddy until he changed. He slowly became aggresive to other anglers and i decided that i need to leave him. I struggle so much finding a good fishing buddy that wont betray me or loose contact with me.  And i have other anglers which hassles me over my gear and my ways of fishing. Bass fishing can get so upsetting and sad. I get put down by Superior, bad people so much that it drives me mad. Or make me just give up. I really loathe anglers like those.^^^

At least i have some good people with me. and i have a Waaaay better fishing buddy. He is dat typical rich guy in the group and glad hes not a spoiled angler calling your gear #@$%, thinking he is the most superior angler, buying or always recomending the most expensive i can only dream about and overall being someone nobody likes. He seems to be wise about his spending and his gear is not insanely expensive and also he seems to kinda admire me despite the fact that he already went into state tournaments twice and doing Okay there. Also with my Boy Scouts most of my troop mates respect me genuinely, likes me for teaching them how to catch bass and helping out new or inexperienced anglers and also Catching Bass easily :p. Looks like theres something that makes a Good angler, not just having expensive high tech gear or winning big tournaments like Bassmasters,FLW and getting sponsored by BIIIIIIG companies.

Everyone has their own special qualities that makes them a good angler and makes you unique.

Go out and fish, ignore what others tell you, Stick with the best people you can find, Help out other anglers and Just fish.

When I would  golf with my parents and brother years ago they would tell to cool it you are not good enough to be angry with this game. Being extremely competitive their advice only angered me more until I finally figured they were right.

My advice is cool it, you are not good enough to be angry with bass fishing, enjoy your time on the water it's limited.

Well I had read about the wacky senko and decided to try it in a last minute effort.  I started catching every cast.. I caught about 10+ bass before I started to feel guilty about having fun. So  I helped him out. Gave him the hook. And the senkos... long story short he caught a bass that was 23" and easily 6-7 but probably 7+ (very impressive bass for ohio) He took off running with the bass back to the truck to take pictures and it was over 75 yards away.. had it out of the water for 10 minutes easy. I was so pis.sed I could have strangled him. To make matters worse he posted pictures on Facebook and showed everyone at the bar about how he caught this huge bass like he was some master angler and told em all how he did it.

i never took him fishing again.  Punk.

I help whoever I can, with in reason, especially those who show a genuine interest.. Here is an example.

Yeajray231 hit it right on the head. "I agree you should have fun, even if that means fishing by yourself." Amen brother. I'll take my daughters, my grand kids or a guy who isn't even a fisherman who wants to experience it with me. In these situations its about them. Taking them. For them.

When I'm bass fishing it not about messing around. I'm about catching bass.Or maybe I didn't fare to well. It's not about that for me. I'm at peace with myself. It's about those smallies and myself. I'm not thinking about anything else. Just what the creator provided. Don't need the drama, antics, BS. I have to deal with that all week.

To further elaborate why I was so bothered. This was a private farm pond. Just under 3 acres. I have special access to it because I did some favors for a neighbor (I put up a wire fence and helped him move ) And he granted me permission to fish this place as I please. Nobody fishes it. His brother built it, stocked it. And then passed away. It is about 15 years old (the pond) and the first season I fished it i had 25+ fish days easily. Some nice ones too. I have put many hours using a seine* in the creek and dumping creek chubs and crawfish into the pond. I take care of the place when the man is out of town. It's like it's my pond.. (even though it isn't). And when he caught that fish I knew it was the queen. And the way he treated it and acted about it after was more than enough for me to not take him fishing again..

btw she lived ? idk how because it felt like she was out of water for an eternity.  I caught her this year and she was 24" and 8.2 lbs. I don't know how long she has left but I hope to see her next spring.

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

It is frustrating being around snooty fisherman or people who act superior. One thing that bothers me are comments made towards fisherman with nice equipment. Why must they be insulted?? I never understand this. So they have a nice boat, yet there are always posts of people criticizing them and judging them for their "nice bass boat...and nice gear" and is usually followed by the person then stating that they outfish anglers with good gear, accusations of the person being stuck up, etc. So basically having nice gear means you must be judgmental towards people who do not and/or you must think you're a better fisherman than those in a Jon boat...the very thing you are accusing them of (being judgmental) is the very thing you are doing.

Yeahjray231, I agree with people saying not to let it bother you AND I would be VERY upset if that happened to me!! Don't risk the life of my pets!! (even though it is not my pond...or my property...or my fish...but that is besides the point!)

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

I must be lucky. I fish and help people as much as I can. I've seen fisherman that are cranky and way to  serious. Last time I checked none of them were pros. I just kind of laugh to myself and move on. For me Fishing is about way more then catching fish. It's about going out enjoying some of God's work and good company. About laughing and bonding with my sons. It's about trying to figure out the puzzle and  concentration. It's about things that the guy who thinks he's better then you will never know. Don't feel sorry for them it's their  choice. You just have fun and relax. Tight lines.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Listen...Noone is allowed to berate or belittle anyone for any reason..

It's just fishing for crying out loud..

Life is too short to be around people who has to make themselves feel superior by insulting and tearing other people down...Go find yourself another club and continue to help others who need it.

I believe it will come back to you 10 fold

Sorry for rambling a little but I just despise bully's, and that's what those  folks are.

You dont UNDERSTAND. THIS ISN'T ABOUT LOATHING JUST NORMAL PEOPLE. Its about Loathing(Disliking) Bad anglers like Anglers WHO uses there fancy gear to Insult or put down other anglers(I met so much of those type of people that it just makes me sick). I Met some good Anglers and Today one of my Troop mates which i taught him to fish and got him a Bass, He gave me a Megabass PopMax In Baby Bass Color along with a letter. Im trying to Make the point THAT THERE SOME CERTAIN SPECIAL QUALITIES THAT MAKES A ANGLER A Good angler. It may not be Big as Having a Fancy nice Boat,Rods reels lures, Having big sponsores or Winning Big tournaments but it is a some small kind of special quality that makes a good angler. And some anglers Tend to Ignore these Small qualities and Just focus on the big ones to make himself Look Like hes the best...

I've only ever had comments directed toward me about how many rod/reels I bring. Until my fishing buddy spends a bunch of time re-rigging, then they tend to get it. If I can have three rigs to their one and not only spend more time casting but have presentations for specific targets, I'm happy with that program.

fishing user avatarTurkey sandwich reply :

I tend to be very friendly with other anglers, especially those with less experience.  The more proficient you become at something, the further you feel from those starting out.  There are a lot of things we learn over the years - courtesy, dealing with excitement, properly caring for fish, being conscientious of the environment/other anglers/boaters/swimmers/etc.  The reason many of us have become "skilled" (let's let go of that ego, fellas) anglers is because others have invested their time, energy, and patience in us.  Yes, some people just suck and will disregard these things, and they should be avoided, but as a general rule, I've found that my kindness has been returned more often than not.

fishing user avatarfrogflogger reply :

Loathing - fishermen - hmm, for me the two aren't in the same sentence - I would probably do something else if I found myself "loathing" a bad fisherman.

fishing user avatar"hamma" reply :

If you were to fill a room with 100 anglers, although they are all anglers you are going to meet all types of people, good, bad, indifferent, etc.

And therein lies the issue, we are all "People" first.  and it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

I am guilty of making statements about "well to do" anglers with the nice boat, expensive gear, etc. Not to bash all anglers that can afford all the gear. But to make a point about, "its not about what you can afford, but how you act as a person" Whether you are rich, poor, or just well off, isnt so much a status symbol when you are fishing. If you pollute, disrespect nature, run your inexperienced mouth to a true angler, cheat your friends, spot suck, beat up boats trying to skip a dock etc. you are going to stick out like a sore thumb.

It just so happens that many "newer anglers" that have no experience fishing, can "afford" the gear, but not the attitude.

A experienced angler, doesn't stand out in a negative manner on the water. New anglers to fishing, boating, the outdoors, do stand out, and some? negatively.

And thats so notable to someone who has been fishing for their lifetime. The sport we all partake in is one of timetested abilities. Without those abilities? your time taking attributes at the ramp?, is going to frustrate experienced anglers, your actions on the water? is going to anger some experienced anglers, your discussions with a time tested angler? is going to raise some eyebrows.

Do I loathe bad anglers as well? No,... they may not be my best friends, but I will "try" to educate before I "judge" them. And yes,.. I really do give them that leaway. As we all had to start somewhere. I will help anyone I can, as karma has a funny way. Its those anglers I try to assist that give me the finger, that gets my back facing them from that moment on. Many times over the years I've attempted to assist, and received a bad attitude in return,.. only to later see that same angler stuck at the ramp with a jacknived trailer, on the ramp!., or find them on a shoreline arguing with a homeowner that has a nice tear in their docked boats cover,, or tow them back to the ramp as their motor wont start,. or their lower unit has taken up residence on a rocky shaol.. etc,

Again, they stick out like a sore thumb, so they will receive either some rhetoric, or assistance, depending on their attitude.,

Bad people are just that, Bad anglers? make us all look bad.,... so dont "loathe" them,..attempt to educate instead. Its how I navigate their antics.

in the instance you mention, i dont think its so much about what gear a person has. its about how the person with that gear acts and conducts themselves. Sure, its great that one is able to afford the nice high-end equipment, good for them, but dont make it a point to rub it into someones face who may not be able to afford that nice high-end stuff. Just because one owns that nice high-end stuff doesnt make them a better person than someone with a Zebco 33. Theres no need to be constantly bragging about it, and using it as a reason to put someone else down. Its one thing to say "hey, look at this nice new combo i got" and another to say "hey, look at this nice new combo i got, its way better than anything you own, youre not going to catch anything on that cheap gear youre using". Thats the point youre overlooking. Its the ones who have something better and use that as an excuse to put others down that get heat thrown back at them, and get comments like "i can catch as many fish on my cheap gear as you can on your expensive gear". what do you expect someone to say when a person is using what they have to put someone else down for what they have(or dont have?)? Now, on the flip side, if someone who has nice high-end gear and is humble about it and doesnt use it as a means to degrade or put others down, and another person without high-end gear is making snide remarks about the person with nice stuff, well thats just jealousy and is also unwarranted.

and also, correct me if i am wrong here, but i think the OP, when he says bad anglers, isnt referring to ones skill level, but is referring more to their demeanor and how they act as a person...

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I agree that people shouldn't act like jerks. They shouldn't put people down for whatever reason gear or otherwise. They shouldn't rub it in your face that they're more well off than you or if they out-fish you. Let's be real though, there's sometimes it just happens, whether intentionally or unintentionally. What gets old to me real fast is how so many people these days gets so friggin butt hurt over anything negative around them. If someone in your club cuts you down because of your gear, don't take offence to it, find a way to use it as motivation to beat them. Prove to everyone just how good you really are, even if you don't drop an insane amount of money on gear. Learn a new technique, or a new presentation for an old one. Beat him from the front of the boat, the back of the boat, heck beat him from the bank, but don't curl up and whine like a preschooler because he hurt your feelings. Man up and let that fuel the fire. You don't have to be buddies with people that are jerks, just limit contact with them. There's no reason to hate people, because at some point you've probably been a jerk to someone too.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

^ Yep.   The degree to which one senses negativity is, in no small part, related to the one doing the sensing.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I don't understand people who judge others based upon what they own.

I buy what I buy, and use what I use for my own reasons.  I don't even look at what somebody else has, because it makes no difference to me whatsoever. I have more important things to worry about than what so-and-so owns.

It's pretty straightforward.

Yes that is What im trying to say. People dont seem to get it and im pretty disappointed by the responses i got.(I dont give a #@$% about high tech gear and people normally using it. The real problem is the snooty anglers will start it and come to me first and wont stop. They will do stuff like dig through my goodies ,check my rod and reel and try to Educate me like im worthless and often times their main weapon is to use there high techno gear. Thats what i really loathe(Dislike)

I dont just dislike normal anglers just for them having a high grade Shimano reels,Brand new Skeeter boat,G Loomis Saint Croix rods and blah blah. Its just alot of anglers i met were snooty anglers. Using there $$$ gear as a main weapon to Insult and bully me. Worse part about these that there near me and i get stuck in unavoidable situations with Snooty anglers.

Some people said in this thread to Mann up,Just use your insticts, Dont be biased but Its not easy as yall think. The people im disliking are Bullies and Bullies they dont only just Bully you once.. they just keep doing it untill they achieve there goal. Its not easy to rise against then most people say its just the same concept as a bully in your school. They use your weakness, disadvantages and flaws to pick on you Continuously and the main flaw Bad anglers anglers are using against me Is Gear and thats what i tried to saw in this forum.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Thats what makes me Dislike(Loathe) Anglers which acts like Bullies^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I should had made the title and post more clear... Thats my fault.

Punk.

Tom he was upset cuz someone he fished with was putting him down ? Who in their right mind wouldn't be bothered by that. Nobody needs that..

I agree you should have fun , even if that means fishing by yourself.

why didn't you just punch him in the throat?

No problem, this group of guys tend to be sarcastic, and to let things roll off their back so to say. My apologies if you took me the wrong way.

Just out of curiosity...How old are you?  As a 48 year old man, I...A.) don't give 2 tin sh*ts what others think of my gear and would not allow others to mess with it, and B.) That's the sheer Beauty of a Public forum - once you put something in print & push that magic submit button - it's out there for the whole world to see . . .and save . . and copy . . and re-send . . you get the point.
