Just wondering guys how small does a bass have to be for you to class it as a "dink"? I know it is different for everyone. For some people a bass is a bass no matter what size. To most people however a small fish is classed as a "dink".
For me a "dink" would be any bass that weighs under one pound. A 1-2 pound fish is at least fun to catch for me so I do not consider them dinks. However for some people( hawg caller, Fourbizzle, Fish Chris, Roadwarrior, ect) a dink would probably be any fish under 5 LBS.
Just wonder how small a bass has to be to be considered a dink for you guys?
When the bass is smaller than the lure you caught him on. Otherwise, he's a trophy!!
Anything smaller than the legal size you can keep.
Any nonkeeper, which is anything under 14" around here
Any bass less than a pound is a dink.
Dink=skidder and a skidder is any fish small enough to skid across the top of the water not pulling your bait and line back in after the hook set.
Anything under 12 or 13 inches.
"Tournament bass"
Anything under 2lbs in Florida unless you are using ultralite with no more than 6lb test.
QuoteAnything under 2lbs in Florida unless you are using ultralite with no more than 6lb test.
Agreed.
i say anything 14 inches and smaller. above that they are fun to catch and can sometimes have a little weight to them if they been eatin good.
haha i like that "skidder" concept, i think i might have to use that one ;D
QuoteAny bass less than a pound is a dink.
Ditto
Dink: noun: Any bass that comes flying out of the water on the hookset.
And the term skidder around here refers to the rock bass. They fight like crazy for about 2 seconds then they just body-surf the rest of the way to the boat.
QuoteDink=skidder and a skidder is any fish small enough to skid across the top of the water not pulling your bait and line back in after the hook set.
thats a good one ,but i've been fondly referring to them as "surfers"
Also in FLA anything under 2
Anything under 2 in Florida? Bro I live in Florida and I have seen people win small tournaments when the fishing is tough with 5 bass for 10 pounds. That means your hardly legal one pounder was a big help... along with a three pounder(s). And (if you have a scale) you know that a 1-2 pounder fights. A 1-2 pounder is way different than a baby bass that just skids in on the topwater when you reel it in. That is a dink.
I wasnt talkin about fishing a touney on a super high pressure lake where the fish are getting pelted with lures like hail day in and day out.A 2 lber is a blessing in those places!
Are we talking about dink the BFR forum member or dink the bass?
Is this what you guys are talking about?
He was caught on a 5" Trick Stick, wacky
The non-keepers are referred to dinks here..which means 14'' or less.Anything over 14" here are keepers.
A dink is a fish too small to get a good pattern off of. Usually under a pound and a half or so. You catch a couple 14" fish and think your on to something until weigh in and everybody else has 4's and 5's, lol. big
several others have already touched on this, but i think it's all relative to the place you are fishing. some places i fish, a 2 pounder is a good solid fish. other places it's below average. then of course there's the climate/growing season factor to consider. some places a 7 pounder will hardly turn any heads, but up north that same fish is an absolute monster - a "fish of a lifetime".
but i guess a dink is a dink no matter where you catch it. i'm gonna go with the majority here and say anything less than a pound is a dink, or as i like to call 'em - a "squealer" ;D. or you could look on the bright side and just call 'em "future hawgs".
anything smaller than 1/3 of my biggest fish on that body of water.
So if I am at the lake that I caught my 13 at, a 4lber is a dink.
If I am at one of my local lakes where my pb is under 5 pounds, it would have to be under 1.5 lbs to be a dink.
I always gauge my fish by the body of water.
Less than 11 inches is a dink in my dictionary.
any baby hawg under 12" is a dink in my boat...
Anything under 14" (keeper size) Is a dink to me.
Falcon
13" and under dink. 13"+ keeper
I define a dink as to the set up of the rod. Obviously, if you have 100 lb braid and a grass rake for a rod with a 10 inch swim bait and the bass is ten inches thats a dink.
So I think type of rod and setup and the lake you are on determines if its a dink.
After all, at the Classic in Pittsburg, it appeared to be a dink a thon.
On Fork, a 3 lber is a chunk, but close to being a dink!!!!!!
"Wow that eeis small. See I was not expecting anything less than ten, or eleven inches."

Fishing on the Marsh it doesn't take long before my clients start calling 3 and 4 pounders dinks.
However:
Hand in hand with catching this 10.5 beauty:
LOL Cart7. I guess if some havent met dink they just wouldnt understand your post.
I agree with Jigman. Anthing that skids across the water. I crank pretty fast too. So it takes a decent fish not to skid.
Under 14 inches
A "dink" in South Florida is a trophy bass in Illinois. :-/
I would say a dink is anything under the legal size.
It's 12" here in Massachusetts
Don't hear the term dink too much, it's usually always "rats". Maybe it is a RI thing. But anyway a rat or dink is anything under a pound and a half, b/c a pound an a half fish is usually the average fish up here.

My pb skied her way to the net for the last 7 or 8 feet.

LOL. That was good. And then she says "uh oh, sorry daddy"
Any bass under 1.5lbs.
I took an average of the last 10 dinks I caught, added their weight together and divided by 10. The average was still a dink. LOL
Ronnie
A "dink" is any bass that my wife catches, no matter what it weighs ;D ;D

A certain UPS Saftey Guy with a Red Jon Boat
What I normally catch.
A keeper LM here is 15"...anything smaller is a "dink" or "slick"...something that gets your lure before the big ones do and a pain in the @$$!

this is also a dink !!
my fishing partner---
when we pull up to the hot spot and he cast's into the tree on the shore on the 1st cast & we have to run the boat to shore and ruin the spot before I even cast out !!!
and not that I ever do that !!
:
I consider anything Burley catches a dink.
When a bass has eyes that are ½ or less apart; we call them tight-eyes
Does this one qualify?
Last dink that I hard waz JD on the rocks. hic-hic-hiccup ;D
Last dink that I caught was a fish that's less than 12".
Beast......
Nice Shirt !!!!
I consider it a dink when I argue with myself the whole time I'm reeling it in as to whether it got off or not, only to see a fish the same size as the lure swinging there when I get it in the boat.
i gotta go with under 1lb my buddy and i always have a little "tournament" when we go they gotta be a pound or better to "weigh in" i always win ;D he usually catches bigger but i catch more
Any thing under 12 inches.
